Gabriel's book exposes the lies and distortions being unwittingly disseminated by western media and governments. It could be the most important book you will ever read. Gabriel once taught in the Egyptian university that is the spriitual seat of Islam. He was forced to flee for his life when he began to question some of the tenets of his faith. He became a Christian and wrote this book using an Americanized name. Muslims the world over want to kill him. He explains exactly why in this clear and concise work.

I had gotten this book as part of my thesis related to the global Salafi jihad, unfortunately within a couple of minutes I realized that I could not cite a book such as this whatsoever for several reasons:

- The author, despite having acquired a Ph.D., does not provide citations nor complete quotes or correct translations when referencing Arabic sources.
- The author's knowledge of Islam is terribly superficial, so that no real substance or Islamic jurisprudence is included or analyzed.
- The book is simply a long rant against a small radicalized section of Islam, it's more like a long opinion piece for some fundamentalist Christian journal than anything else.
- The publishing firm and its editors make it a non-credible source that no real thesis supervisor would less pass without questioning it.

Seek other sources for research, but if you are a fundamentalist Christian seeking affirmation of the evils of Islam that is perpetrated by less than 1% of the world's Muslim population this is an excellent book. It is written at a middle-school level, making it a very easy read.

Dr. Gabriel has written an easily digestible accounting of what he experienced and how Islam as he knows it differs from how most of us in the West have been led to believe. I am becoming more firmly convinced that we need to devote more resources to actively study this religion/way of life in order to gain understanding and develop ways to communicate with the types of terror minded people he is writing about. The difference between the Noble Quran and the other translations is pretty startling... and scary!

I read this book in preparation for a presentation I am making to team members on my police department. I found Dr. Gabriel's source list to be as helpful as the book itself! To date, I have read three other books on the subject, one video and several internet feeds. I have been trying to read the Quran and when I get a copy of the Noble Quran, am interested in comparing the two. Any suggestions for additional sources would be greatly appreciated!

All the best,

Jay

Dr. Gabriel presents an authentic analysis of the threat of Islam. He was raised Muslim, memorized the full Qur'an by the age of twelve, and eventually was a professor at Al-Azhar University in Cairo - the most revered Islamic University in the world. He tried to teach his students to be open-minded and for his effort, was kicked out of the University, spit upon, beaten and branded a heretic. He was arrested by the Egyptian secret police and tortured to near-death. He has been attacked and stabbed by Muslim fanatics for proclaiming the truth.

I have read all of Dr. Gabriel's writing and have met him personally. He is a humble, sincere and soft-spoken man. He has a heart for Muslims and desires that they be given the freedom to think for themselves and have the opportunity to choose.

I encourage you to read all of Dr. Gabriel's books in order to gain a full understanding of the threat that Islam represents - and more importantly - to offer hope and a refuge to those trapped in its oppression.

I have the highest respect for Dr. Gabriel and refer to him often in my blog: www.y-factor.net

The main message is that Westerners have a fundamental misunderstanding of Islam. Islam is not about peace but submission, and where there is submission there is also dominance. I have purchased several copies and have distributed them to family members becuase I think the book's message is that important. It is also written very well so that it reads easily.

(Hide Review...)  Revealing the Koran and terrorists in simple language
Reviewer Permalink
Dr Gabriel reveals the Koran and terrorists in simple language for what they stand for. He provides facts from his real life experiences. He was a devotee of Islam from childhood until he realized the teachings in the Koran were not the teachings of love and tolerance but the teachings of hate and intolerance. He was trained in Egypt's finest university in religion and Islamic history and thus knows first hand the hate and intolerance propagated by Muhammad's teachings. Because of his conversion to Christianity, he is able to make valid comparisons between the teachings in the Koran and teachings in the Bible.

This is a "must read" book for those looking for understanding about the conflicts throughout the world between Muslims and other peoples. You will understand that these conflicts have nothing to do with poverty and land but have everything to do with the Koran and its teachings.

First the book, "Islam and Terrorism, What the Quran really teaches etc.", Is written by a man brought up in Islam and formally educated at Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt with a Phd. and was an Imam of a Mosque in Giza Egypt. He knows the Quran and Islam fundamentally and historically.

He explains why Muslims have and fight their Jihad against any and all other religions and their practitioners in the entire world. All Jihad is based upon the historical actions of Muhammad and a process of (nasikh) in the interpretation of the Quran. (Nasikh) is a word used by Islamic scholars to name the process of giving later readings in the Quran more absolute weight in determining what the Quran actually teaches because the Quran meanders around teachings telling muslims to love their neighbors in its early writings but telling the Muslims to kill those same neighbors later because if they aren't Muslims then they are infidels.

Since the Quran contradicts itself the (nasikh) process allows the Muslims to override love, peace, and care and go straight to the later passages that condem nonmuslims (infidels) to death.

When Muhammad began to have his visions in the night desert he feared he was becomming insane but was encouraged by his wife and close friends that these visions were from God or Allah. Muhammad had spent many of his early years after the death of his father and then his mother, being taught by his uncle to run camel trains up and down the areas from above Jerusalem down to Egypt. Many an evening he spent around camp fires with Chrisitan and Jewish pilgrims discussing religious teachings. He borrowed both Christian and Jewish teachings when he began his religion. People close to him in Mecca encoraged him and his teachings which went into the Quran and were kind, hopeful, and caring, but later when the people of his town made him leave and he went to Medina, the teachings he made were about military power and invasion in the name of Islam. (jihad)

The book is straight forward and easy to understand and matches my own theological research in the past. I'm sure anyone who wants to understand Islam in today's world will find the book very informative.

Textual corruption of the Bible is not only Muslim/Qur'anic position but top learned Christian scholars, who are not blinded by their fundamentalist doctrines, admit and ascertain to this historic fact (e.g. Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why (Plus): by Bart D. Ehrman and The Cross & The Crescent by Jerald Dirks).

That said, to say that Muslims do not believe in Jesus is a blatant misinformation. Islam happens to be the only none Christian faith on the face of the earth that makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus. Muslims believe (on the bases of the Qur'an) in his miraculous birth (i.e. without any male intervention), they believe that he gave life to the dead (by God's permission) and healed those born blind and the lepers (by God's Permission) and they believe that he was the Messiah (translated: `Christ' - not God; word `Christ' only means anointed/appointed, in this case, by God to deliver his message to the Jews). Muslims don't hate Jesus - quite the contrary; they love and revere Jesus Christ, so much so that unlike modern Christians, you'll never hear the name of Jesus from a Muslim's lips without the suffix `peace be upon him'. Qur'an claims to be the continuation and correction (from human corruption), of the same message of God delivered by all the prophets including Abraham, Moses and Jesus. Muslims truly go beyond lip service and practically follow him (if you could observe them closely in their daily life and look beyond the rampant political Islam-bashing going on in the west these days) e.g. their greetings `AsSalam-o-Aliqum' (Translated: `peace be upon you') is word-for-word the same as Jesus used to greet. They pray like Jesus (e.g. in the Garden on Gethsemane); falling on their faces in humility. Instead of following Paul, Muslims take Jesus' words at face value. Following on Jesus' words (Mat 5:17-20) they don't eat pork, are circumcised and keep the law and commandments of God just like Jesus did and preached to his followers. Simply put, Muslims pray and follow the God of Jesus Christ.

What Muslims don't accept is that Jesus was God and that he died for anyone's sins. Both these ideas are later innovations and would have been repugnant to Jesus in his own time. He never claimed `I am God' and he never said `Worship me' - on the contrary he said `my father is greater than I (john 14:28); my father is greater than all (john 10:29); I can, of my own self, do nothing (john 5:30).

Dying for someone else's sins and getting punished for someone else's crimes is unjust even from human imperfect standards (no civilized people ever allow that) and diametrically opposed to The Justice of God and His teaching. I give you Ezekiel-18 as my supporting evidence on this point.

Actually I viewed the first pages of this book. The simplest thing I am asking you is to check out the references he put .. he said in his book
"In one place alcohol was forbidden; in another it was allowed. (Compare Surah 5:90-91 with Surah 47:15)" The writer is trying to discover some sort of verses, Well, I don't see any verse here. Check them your self in a good translated Quran and you will see your self. Check Surah#47 Sequance#15 there is nothing with alcoholic there were description of the heaven that it has rivers of water, milk, wine, and honey. It is heaven what do you expect!!
the writer wrote "In one place the Quran says Christians are very good people who love and worship one God, so you may be friends with them (Surah 2:62, 3:113-114). Then you find other verse that say Christians must convert, pay tax or be killed by the sword (Surah 9:29)" .. he said "The Quran says" It is not the Quran who says "Allah says" .. the other thing is please check out the reference, It is not the exact meaning and he did not provide the full context. And he (the writer) knows that his comparison have been in two different period of time and he didn't mention that in his book.

He gets to each point easily and swiftly and leaves no doubt as to what it means and where he stands. The secular reader may overlook the references to Christianity and what it has done for the writer because the information he lays out concerning Islam is so clear and vivid that it makes up for anything else. I am very thankful for this book. It helped me to realize more about the satanism of Islam. Muhammad got his revelations from the angel Gabriel. The Lord clearly states through the apostle Paul: "No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." 2 Corinthians 11:14. Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and that no one comes to the Father except through Him(Jesus). Christ can and does reach Muslims, like this author as well as all people.

I generally like to get a feel for both sides of the argument when reading a controversial book such as this. I must say, though, I find the critical retorts here to be lacking, at best. Complaints against this book are limited to personal attacks on the author, "straw dummy" arguments, and accusatory finger pointing at Christianity.

There are two key points that stood out to me in Gabriel's book:

-Contradictions in the Quran are alleviated through this idea of "progressive revelation," with the anti- "ahl al kitab" verses coming in Muhammad's Medina years.

-Extremists (such as Salafists/Wahhabists, etc) are the only Muslims practicing 100% Islam.

The first point is of particular interest to me. I have read the Quran (Ali translation) and any unbiased person must admit the idea of progressive revelation DOES tend to alleviate many of the seeming contradictions. The downside, of course, is that the picture thus becomes just as Gabriel describes it - bleak.

I generally don't look at the ACTIONS OF PEOPLE to help define a religion, as people (of any religion) are imperfect, emotional, illogical, and inconsistent. I believe it's always best to go to the SOURCE of a religion to determine its value. Therefore, even though I find Gabriel's book to be far from convincing, I think the questions he raises (specifically, the idea that progressive revelation shows that the current goal of Islam is forced worldwide submission to Allah) warrant an answer.

Any takers?

I originally bought this book looking for answers about Islamic terrorism and also the obvious hatred of these terrorists for Jews and Christians.

I was shocked and amazed to hear firsthand information from a former Muslim about the roots of hatred in the Islamic belief system. This is no run of the mill everyday Muslim, Gabriel was a student of the foremost school of Islamic theology in Egypt and was born and raised a devout follower of Mohammed's Quran.

After reading this title, I sincerely believe that as a nation we are under severe threat, and that the entire world is threatened by this so called religion of "peace and love". If we do not open our eyes and react accordingly, then radical Islam will continue to spread its hatred like a cancer.

Please read this book and then pass it on to every person you know that will read it. At the very least it should be considered in your quest for the truth about Islam.

The basics of the Islam religion are spelled out by an Arab scholar who completed nine years of studying the core beliefs of Islam. You will learn of the beginnings of Islam when it was weak and peaceful and how it grow to where it is now: strong and imperialistic. This book is a "must read" as the goal of Islam is to fulfill the jihad of worldwide submission. It explains that because the Jews and Christian are the most difficult to convert to Islam, they are its primary target.

Mark A. Gabriel, "Ph.D." is a liar. He is not a real PhD. If you don't believe me, just check out his "alma mater" - Florida Christian University (FCU). The "school" is not accredited and here's what the FCU website says about it's founder, the Rev. Dr. Harold L. Shindoll, ThD.

"Dr. Shindoll received his education at various schools and seminaries and his Doctorate of Theology Degree from Florida Theological Seminary, Inc. where he was an instructor of many Biblical subjects. He also served as the Founder and the President of the Seminary."

So he received his "Doctorate" from the school that he founded. That's a neat trick!

This book is filled with contradictions. Any discerning reader will have no trouble spotting them. Don't waste you money. Go to the library.

I'm only 19 years old and I read this book with great interest. Dr. Gabriel did a wonderful job of explaining Islam from a personal perspective. This is a man who was shot at by his father, tortured by secret police, and beaten for converting to Christianity. He holds a PHD in Islamic studies and taught at the University of Kirro in the 80s.

Honestly folks, this book is pretty touching in some ways. It shows how a lost man, full of hate, who for one reason or another began to question the roots of Islam's hatered. This questioning put Dr. Gabriel on a spiritual journey of uncovering the lies of Islam (killing of jews, hate towards the west, ill treatment of women, etc.). This book is very concrete and fairly well written. Anyone who's interested in why Islam justifies attacks on the West should read this book.

Hope this review helps.

Most of what's true about Muhammad and the history of Islam is not known by the average non-muslim. The great tragedy, though, is that what's true about Muhammad and the history of Islam also is not known by the vast majority of muslims. Quite obvious from this book, is the fact this former muslim professor of Islamic history knows the Truth -- and the Truth has set him free.

It takes courage to witness to the Truth, under the persecution and threats of capital punishment experienced by Dr. Mark A. Gabriel; but, he displays that courage.

Although this book is far from comprehensive concerning the violent teachings and practices of Muhammad, it should give pause to any person, both non-muslim and muslim, who would claim that the violent Muhammad created a religion of peace.

This is a must read for people who want to begin to understand the underpinnings of Muhammad's jihad against "infidels".

Gabriel's writing is informal, perhaps, too informal at times. However, the strength of this book is that it's written by an individual who offers an insider's point of view. The one odd aspect to this work is that it begins to map out the root causes of terrorism and then finishes with several chapters that serve as a "how to" book for Christians looking to convert Muslim souls. Despite this strange inclusion, "Islam and Terrorism" is an interesting and insightful book.

I'm no expert on Islam, but I take it that what's in the book is accurate considering the reputation of the author. This isn't the best book if you want specifics on Islam, because it is written with a limited scope. The limited scope is Islam within the context of terrorism. That's OK, and the author stays that early in the book, so you don't have any expectations dashed. Gabriel helped me understand why terrorists do what they do, and gives a good amount of history about Muhammed and Islam (note, the book isn't a bio on Muhammed). He gives his own personal history and it is quite amazing that he went through what he did. We are blessed that he was able and willing to write this book. He has some chapters on Islam and Muhammed. He has some chapters on Jihad and some of the 'founderss' and leaders. And, he has chapters concerning how Christians may best witness to Muslims. He's not the most polished writer, but I ddidn't hold that against him. The book isn't boring either. Course, I didn't buy the book as entertainment. I've recommended the book to others. It was worth reading to me. I learned a lot from it.

I found Islam and Terrorism to have amazing insight. His story is riveting. Readers must understand that he is addressing the issues of fundamental Islam and not the cultural aspects of most Muslims. He gives us an urgency and depth to our world wide struggle against Fundamental Muslims in their quest to bring world wide Islamic domination through commanded Jihad in the Qur'an.

I have studied Islam and the Qur'an for years, I have traveled throughout the Islamic world. My current Qur'an is marked from front to back with notes and highlights. I have a great love and respect for Muslims. His teaching is correct and his sources are authoritative within Islam. For those who are studying the current conflict within Islam this is a must read.

Readers who are interested in finding out why the West has been targeted by some extremist Muslims as well as why so much anti-western sentiment exists in not only the Islamic world but the developing world at large (and more recently almost the entire world) would be better off reading the works of Edward Said - an Arab Christian who was a true scholar of Middle Eastern and European/American history and documented in several of his works many of the reasons the West is not held in high esteem - and with good reason as anyone would understand if they were on the receiving end (if you are not on the receiving end thank God or your lucky stars whatever works for you).

Mark Gabriel's book is a sad story about a man who experienced persecution that should never have happened, however, it does nothing to help the reader understand the true roots of anti-western sentiment, or the violence perpetrated by a small number of Muslim extremists. I can understand his bitterness given his experiences. However, given his negative experiences and his rejection of Islam personally it is reasonable to infer (as the book demonstrates) that his views of Islam and its history are quite tainted. This book provides the reader with nothing but a very biased and stereotypical account of Islam and its history - IT WILL NOT HELP ANY WESTERNER UNDERSTAND THE REALITIES THAT EXIST IN THE MIDDLE EAST TODAY.

By the way I believe you if you read Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" you will see that there is no civiliation, Islamic, American, or otherwise that does not have violent blemishes in its past and present. However, these violent blemishes should not be used to characterize entire civiliations in their entirety which Gabriel's book unfortunately does.

If you want to truly understand the roots of violence perpetrated by a very small group of Muslims (remember there are 1 billion Muslims in the world and those committing acts of violence are drop in the bucket compared to the immense size of the total population - also let's not forget that plenty of violence has been perpetrated by some groups of Christians and Jews both in contemporary times and in the past) than read books by scholars who understand the pain and suffering of the Palestinians, the Iraqis, the Afghanis, and the ongoing humiliation, torture, and death, these people have suffered at the hands of the West, not to mention the humiliating history of European colonization and imperialism that has left its mark on the region. Also be reminded that the U.S.'s support of oppressive dictators in the region is not lost on the people who live and suffer under those oppressive regimes such as Bush's good friends the Saudi royal family. And of course Sadam Hussain, a current villian in the U.S., was once highly favored by the U.S. government who supplied him with arms and other types of aid during the eight year Iran-Iraq war. He lost his popularity with the U.S. government after he decided he no longer liked being a puppet.

For a more accurate in-depth view of the history of the influence of the West on the East read Edward Said's foundational book "Orientalism," "the Question of Palestine," or Arhandati Roy's "An Ordinary Persons Guide to Empire." Here you will read words and truths from scholars who come from colonized peoples, scholars who are/were not only great writers and scholars but who also write/wrote from a non-western perspective. If you want to understand the perspectives of Arabs and Muslims than reading books written by biased Westerners such as Gabriel is not the way to go. On the other hand if your true motive in reading about Islam is to reinforce your existing hatreds, biases, and stereotypes, by all means read his book with relish - it will serve your intended purpose well.

The author claims that he is a former Muslim, Ph.D. professor of Islamic history at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. This is confirmed by one of the reviewers listed in the book who says he personally met with and checked out the author's references. The author writes under a pseudonym for reasons that will be quite obvious after reading the harrowing story his background.

After reading the Amazon reviews by critics of this book I had to wonder if some of them had ever actually read the book. For example, one says that there is no record of the author at Al-Azhar University, although the book makes clear that the author is writing under a pseudonym. Others write as if the Author is simply spewing hatred against Muslims when it is very clear from the book that the author has a deep personal love for the Muslims. His intention was to explain the rise of Islamic terrorism, not to cast aspersions on the Muslim people. It is hard to understand how anyone who actually read the book could miss that.

The book is outstanding and should be considered essential reading for every adult in America.

I find Dr. Gabriel account of Islam to be disturbing. For one thing, the Quran tells his we have to believe in the revelations before the last revelation the Quran was revealed. Islam is the perfected religion, as said in the Quran. Dr. Gabriel speaks about contradictions then becomes a Christian. The Bible has been manipulated, altered, and purposely changed to suit the likes of Kings of there time. I once was a Christian, and ALL PRAISES DUE TO ALLAH, that I found Islam on my own after 9/11. The Quran tells us Muslims to submit to Islam on earth, do good deed, perform prayer (remembrance of ALLAH, the most Gracious and Merciful), and refrain from sin in order to receive Heaven in the Hereafter. To use Alcohol, as a meaning for contradiction is absurd. Alcohol and sin as we all know cause us to transgress against ALLAh and ourselves. I am sure AllAH knows the reason for abstaining Alcohol on earth. I am sad for Christians who were once Muslims only because christians believe Jesus is God, the son of God, and the holy spirit. When the first commandment clearly states: You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me, yet christians share divinity with Jesus and a spirit. This is the reason for anger when people convert to other beliefs. There is only one GOD, and his name is ALLAH. Stop using the actions of some muslims to discredit Islam, for the Muslims who choose to act in barbaric ways will be judged by ALLAH, and ALLAH alone. Dr. Gabriel is a well-educated man, and I only pray that he would not compare Islam with Terrorism.

Well, if it's up to me I'd give that book a rating of 5 stars myself, I read it all through in one single day!!!
Yes, it was that Interesting & Exciting, it sure will be to any fair open minded person too!!!
Yet the rating of only 4 stars which I gave it, is not due to mistakes or problems the author had made, No...
It's simply that out of my own opinion I had the feeling that...
1st - some of the examples (The wine for example and the contradiction discussed) was a bit weak regarding the verses selected, yet I don't say it's wrong, for if we considered the 3 Rivers of Heaven promised in the Quraan we'll find the same problem again!!!
2nd - Reading throughout the book especially as a Muslim makes you start thinking in a defensive way (what in the world is he talking about, even we call these people Terrorists!!!) He is talking about Terrorists & Extremists, and somehow Muslims will automatically start defending by saying stuff like (Them understanding the Quraan that way is their own problem, yet it doesn't mean it is really that way) and that's only because of the way this book is written when getting deeper into the Terrorism sections of the book, Referring to these terrorists as acting according to THEIR BELIEFS (where these last 2 words are keywords that can turn the whole point of the book over, even if the Author had made clear at the Begining that these are the Quraan's teachings, still using these 2 words makes it sound a bit different again) Yet I'm sorry to say, It is very Serious because it's not THEIR BELIEFS, The Auther is right, it's the Quraan's teachings, at least it's written there, so what else could it be doing there!!!

And who am i?!!
My name is Amr, from Cairo/Egypt, a Muslim since Birth and till now "Only wonder till when!!!", studied Quraan at school (nothing much I know), yet with my Religion Study which I started by the age of 17 and lasted for 8 years now which included 1st (the Noble Quraan) & 2nd (the Holy Bible) I came about a lot...
For almost a year and a half I was a very faithful Muslim, 5 prayers a day plus the Sunna, Fasting (Mondays & Thursdays), reading the Quraan & other explanation books (Tafseer Ibn Katheer "3 books" for example) so yes I know what I'm talking about, just like i'm sure Mr. Mark Gabriel knows that as well, just reading through the book, and the amount of CORRECT information this guy gives you, shouldn't leave you in doubt about his knowledge at all, at least i think so!!!

well, with the 1st time I studied the bible, I felt the major difference between both books!!!
I can't influence anyone's opinion, and I am not intending to, I did my own study and still am reading, and with God's help I'll find my own way through the darkness, yet I can only Recommend you to read this book, to know and to understand, not to fight back!!!
Enjoy your reading and try to be reasonable, fair, and willing to understand (It's no use if you've already made up your mind and rejected it, why then waste your time reading at all?!!)

But you and people like you who seemed to be interested in finding out about Islam, and love reading books should certainly read the Quran and with its extended translation of each surrahs instead of spending time reading petty books like these. Thank You.

Muslims are a stain on humanity. Actually, more like a tumor that needs to be eradicated so as to not contaminate the world any further. Islam is destroying and segregating the world. Piting non-Muslims against Muslims in a man-made holy war. Killing for Allah. Wow, what a peaceful religion. Do you really need Allah to hate those that are different than you? The truth is you don't. You don't need Allah for anything. Nor does anyone need Mohammed's deceitful words to have a fulfilling life.

So it be known: All you muslims will be considered radical nutjobs until a stand is made against the extremists. If you do not weed out the radicals than you are just as guilty as they are! You are perpetuating the hate that they spread. You are letting them hi-jack your precious religion and you do NOTHING! Cowards!

And the blood in on whose hands? Muslims have more blood on their hands than anybody. Your hands are soaking in other's blood and it's only getting worse. No need to worry though. You will all soon be drowning in it.

I am an atheist from southeast asia , from a traditional Buddhist family, and I read that book with an open mind. My neutral background enables me to see both sides of the coin when it comes to Mid East religious issues.I do not deny that I find certain elements of Islamic teachings to be somewhat militant in nature, probably just as Christianity had been corrupted by power and greed in the past.. However, as a Christian convert, I do not rule out the fervour Dr Gabriel would probably have in his new found religion. As we often see, new converts are generally more religious in their newly-embraced faiths, regardless of what their faiths are, and are more likely to be driven to influence others to their beliefs. Hence, I cautioned readers not to take each word written by Dr Gabriel at face value, but rather question yourself about their validity, just as I urged Muslims to question and finally understand the true meanings of the Koran. Are the jihadist interpreting the real or mistaken meaning of their Islam? Remember, a good writer can make a reader see his point of view using a tunnel vision he created with his words...the important thing is to decide for ourselves the legitmacy of his claims. Ultimately, we all react to our own perceptions. Truth does not matter as much as perceptions does. If we chose to think Islam is evil before you read this book, your beliefs as such will be reinforced. If you read with an open mind, it will make you thirst for more proof for the claims from both sides. If you are a Muslim, maybe you shoud think about if there is any truth in what he wrote, or is it just a mere smear campaign.

I read this guy book, I do not buy for a second that he was a Muslim, he is very shallow as far as it concern Quran, he did not quote any chapter of Quran that he has problem with and all he talks about is his personal experience!!! just mentioning 13:3 7:11 like he is quoting from a bible, shows he is was born as a Christian (No Muslem or ex-Muslim refer to quran this way, we say Al Fateha Sura 3 and not 1:3, if you know what I mean). Despite the fact that I'm an accountant, I believe my knowledge about Islam and Quran is far beyond his knowledge.

Furthermore we never heard his name in Egypt, no Muslim would believe him. His book can be revoked by any young Muslim child. Just few pages of his book to be read by any Muslim shows that this guy has nothing to do with Islam, not to mention his PHD in Islam. I'd rather say if he really got this PHD and did not buy one online from [...] it's more likely to be PHD in B.S.

(Hide Review...)  Do you people bashing Dr. Gabriel really know what you are talking about?
Reviewer Permalink
I have read this book, I have heard Dr. Gabriel speak, and all I can say to the pin-heads who bash Dr. Gabriel, call him "biased" and say he doesn't know anything about Islam, is that they have no clue. Dr. Gabriel is EGYPTIAN, could quote the Koran fully by age 12, he is a former PROFESSOR OF ISLAMIC HISTORY at Al-Azhar university in Egypt, and a former Imam. So, I think when he speaks about Islam he KNOWS what he is talking about, certainly more than the pin-head liberals and Christian bashing reviewers. But then again, I would expect nothing but biased, uninformed bashing from them. If you want an inside look at Islam, do something unique: read his books, read his testimony, and judge for yourself.

To the person who took Dr. Gabriel's book to a "linguist" who is a "christian" for an amazing 85 years???? Your "linguist" is ill, so old he is out of it, or you are... misleading people about this book. I am looking at Dr. Gabriels book this very second, looking at page 4-5 and have looked up the Surahs he quotes and guess what? They are EXACTLY as he states. Here is one example:

On page 4, Dr. Gabriel says "In one place alcohol was forbidden; in another it was allowed. (Compare surah 5:90-91 with Surah 47:15.)"

Guess what those two surah are talking about? Have a clue? Here, to help you out, I will quote them:

"O ye who believe! Intoxicants (wine) and gambling, stones, and arrows, are an abomination of Satan's handiwork: eschew such, that ye may prosper. [Surah 5: 90]

Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants (alcohol/wine) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?} [Surah 5: 91]

and in contrast:

"Here is a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; *RIVERS OF WINE, A JOY TO THOSE WHO DRINK*; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels (to pieces)?" (Surah 47:15)

Additonally, using the excuse that Dr. Gabriel is using "bad" translations of the Quran... you must rembmer he reads ARABIC. His native language is not english. Again, he could quote the Quran by age 12 fully... he didn't have "bad" translation nor did he need a translation. His toughts and evaluations are based upon primary source language, not translations.

So please, people, don't listen to the atheists, islamic appologists, and liberal lunatics. Do your own homework people, check with primary sources, and READ!

its really funny that christians are saying that the quraan is contradictry ( the wine story) because we all know that there are so many different bibles with so many contradictory views. let me enligthen you, ther quraan was revealed over 1400 yrs ago and yet not one word, not a single letter, or even a punctuation mark has been changed. and litteraly billions of muslims learn the quraan by heart ( the entire 30 chapters) every day, young and old, men and women, your so called fundamentalists and mordernists.

now about the wine verses. you need to know that before the quraan was revealed arabia was steeped in "ignorance". it was a norm to bury baby girls alive!!! the quraan was revealed over a period of 23yrs and bit by bit things were forbidden. the first wine related verse told muslims " Oh ye who believe donot go near prayer while ye are intoxicated until you know well what you say"

the second verse says "hey ask thee concerning wine (al-khamri) and gambling. Say: "In them is great sin, AND SOME PROFIT, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit.""
ye who believe! Intoxicants (al-khamru) and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are AN ABOMINATION,- OF SATAN'S HANDWORK: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants (al-khamri) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain? S. 5:90

so ofcourse you as a non muslim would be confused. contradictory? No!

you see for us muslims the quraan is our guide and the hadeeth-sayings of the Prophet Muhammed is the key to understanding the Quraan. God, in his infinate wisdom were "weening" the muslims of wine.

we r all aware of the harms of alcohol. if u dont drink alcohol u have no chance of becoming an alcoholic! For us muslims, wine which is a luxury will be offered to us in paradise

neways about the terrororism issue. This guy is so misinformed, im starting to wander if he is for real.

Get this, Islam tottaly forbids the killing of women and children, the old, the innocent and even trees @ the time of war! What is this man going on about i dont know.

Even suicide is islam is forbidden, so suiciding bombing is NOT ALLOWED! especially since it may be harming the innocent.
I mean even abortion is not allowed!!

Islam and women abuse? Puhleeeez! I am a muslim woman, my religion is ISLAM!Do i feel abused, misused, opprressed? NO!!!

Look, a mans responsibility in Islam is far greater than a womens. For example my share of inheritance is slightly less than a mans. Does this mean islam is unfair! It only means that a man is supposed to use his inheritance to feed and clothe the women in society who have NOTHING, like a bag lady for example. I can do whatever i want with my money, my brother cant!

A husbands responsibitly is greater than a wifes. Therefore his status is higher, a mothers responsibility is greater than a fathers therefore her status is higher. Islam believes in the equality of sexes not the identicality of the two!!!

As for a man having four wives,he has to treat them exactly the same, imagine that if you have four wives and you decide to buy a dkny handbag 4 1 wife, the other 3 need to get the same. A swimming pool for 1, yip the other 3 need one to! And hes reseon for marrying the other 3 wives should not be driven by lust.

If islam is treated as a whole, if people read both the Quraan, and consulted the hadeeth, than i believe even the problem of poverty would be eliminated. Because in Islam we have to give, give and give. One of our fundemental principles tell us to give 2.4% of our wealth to the poor every year. Imagine if everyone who is able to so,does this! We should wish for others what we wish for ourselves

So for those of you who think Islam is the religion of terrorists you are sadly misinformed!

Books like this, are a product of religious hatred. It inflames hatred of other religions for islam, and for islam to the rest of the world. Its not my religion that is turning muslims into terrorists its the usage of this kind of propoganda against the muslims that fuels a passion that they cannot control. It blinds them from realising that being violent ( By this i include burning up embassies) is wrong, prohibited, and is not the way to move forward.

this is an excellent book to fool christians, because christian know that all billions of christians trying their best to defame Islam for 1400 years yet Islam is fastest growing religion, and the most coverts are Christians women. Christians can read Quran themselve to see if the writer is talking truth, and they can read and see the historical churches in Muslims countries, if the writer is correct there would not be any christians and churches in muslim world, this is a clear proof that the auther is mentally sick and retarded. Our prophet said it is enough for a person to be a liar if he/she listens from someone and without making sure if it is authntic, it passes on the statement to others", Go and search your self rather than reading a book and believing in it, it is same as seeing Hitler and thinking this is christianity.

I lent this book to a PH.D. linguist; scholar in ancient and modern languages including Arabic. He is also an accomplished bible expert and has authored many texts teaching translators to translate major segments of the bible to various languages. He is a Christian of 85 plus years. He suggested I take one of his copies of the Quran and check out, for starters, the author's claims on pages 4 and 5 of the book. I did that and I encourage anyone else unfortunate enough to have purchase this package of pig swill to do the same. You can easily prove for yourself using the aurthor's own material that he is a brazen lier. The Rev. Bruce H. If you are a Christian with a view of Islam as a Militant religion bent on taking over the world, this book will confirm all of your worst fears. It cannot however be seen as an objective view of Islam or Christianity. The first half of the book is dedicated to the authors believe that Islam is a militant religion intent on converting the world to Islam though Jihad and oppression. The book uses numerous quotes from Islamic writings as well as historical and current events to make his case. The second half of the book is dedicated to the author's perspective that the Crusades likely saved Europe from the hands of Muslim invaders. Christians are not necessarily noted as hero's in the discussion of the crusades, but the book attempts to draw the contrast that Muslims hope to convert the world to Islam while Christians have a more defensive basis for the crusades.

This book is not an attempt to see both sides, but an effort to portray the view that the Muslim world is intent not just on reclaiming middle eastern land, but in establishing Islam as the religion of all people by force (Jihad), oppression or conquest. The violence in the Middle East and more recently the events of 9/11 make it easy to accept this opinion with out further review. Though I believe this book is excellent reading as part of a more comprehensive discussion I believe that it will be important for readers to seek other opinions before developing an informed decision.

Personally this book confirmed much of what I have come to believe about Islam before reading the book. Still I believe that you cannot hope to truly understand a topic until you have heard both sides of the discussion. This book will only provide one side and readers are encouraged to seek out dissenting opinions for consideration before drawing conclusions.

With so many things happening in the Middle East, I have felt a strong urging to become more knowlegable of Islam and what its followers really believe. Mark Gabriel is someone whose views and insights I can trust, since he is not only an Islamic scholar but someone who practiced the faith for the first 34 years of his life. His story is a remarkable one, and the fact that he managed to get out of Egypt alive indicates to me that God had special plans for him. This is only the first of four books he has written, and I have already ordered two more. Islam and Terrorism explains briefly and in easy to understand language the history of Islam, why so many verses in the Koran contradict each other, why the concept of jihad must be thoroughly understood by Westerners, and how past atrocities such as the assassination of Anwar Sadat are related to what is happening in the world today. I feel much more informed about what true Islam is than I have ever been, and have given a copy of Islam and Terrorism to a brave Christian woman who has recently returned from Iraq and will soon be going to Afghanistan. The ending chapters on how to witness to Moslems and nurture recent converts to Christianity will be of great help to her.

I read this book with an interest in understanding the mindset of the Islamic / Terrorist tie. One thing struck me as truth. As human beings that believe in a God, we all strive to "please" God. Some believe in a loving and forgiving God, one that we can have peace with while we live our lives, one we can have a personal relationship with. Other people strive and struggle to please God, never at peace with God and never knowing even at death, whether they will be approved of God. God loves the Muslim as well as anyone else. Mark Gabriel made that abundantly clear in his writing. His realization that God is Love, is the transforming power that broke his hatred. An excellent book!

People entering into Islam and becoming Muslim is the highest rate among any religion in the world. People enter and leave religions, but nobody leaves Islam who is not under social pressure like this man says he was. If he was living in the US, he would still be a Muslim. People leave Christianity because of its logic. We do have people who are saying they are Muslim, and killing innocent people at the same time. We also have gay Muslims by the way. These 2 groups are not following the tenets of the Quran, which forbids killing innocent people or being a homosexual.

If you want to know the truth about Islam, go to your local mosque and ask them yourself. Do not accept what this one man says or any other so called expert on Islam.

This book really opened up my eyes to Islam. Muslims will deny the truth, no matter what. Written by a former professor of Islam, I do not see what Mark Gabriel would have to gain from writing this book. Only to show what he knows and what he taught. He is not trying to get ppl to leave Islam, but to know about Islam from a former Muslim, but many muslims would discredit him because of their own bias and hatred for anyone who shows the truth of Islam.I gave this book to someone who had converted to Islam, and after reading it he left it.

I have had muslims deny verses in their own Koran. Many muslims cannot even translate verses of their own Koran ,but yet spat out war verses in the Bible and verses in there that suit them and cannot even explain those. I mean this man was almost killed for leaving his faith, and telling about Islam. This goes to show ppl what muslims will deny. They have denied 1400 yrs of atrocities against Christians and Jews, which Muslims will deny to this day and show one side.

The Koran also speaks of virgins in paradise for those who die for Allah. While the number is not said in the Koran, it is not 70,000 but 70 according to Islamic fundamentalists. While Surah 4:29 says not to kill yourselves or destroy yourselves, Muslims do not call it suicide but martyrdom. The influential islamic scholar Sheikh Yusaf al-Qaradawi, who has been hailed as a "reformist", by Islamic scholar John Esposito, summed up the more common view. the prohibitions against suicide do not apply to suicide bombers, because their intention is not to kill themselves but the enemies of Allah. "Its's not suicide, it is martyrdom in the name of God."

This is also summed up in the Koranic verse 9:111-which is translated-"Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods;for theirs in return is the garden of Paradise:they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain:a promise binding on Him in truth". And how is the Garden of Paradise described in the Koran concerning virgins, well let's see. Surah 78:31-"voluptuous women of equal age." Surah 37:48-"those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes".Surah 44:54-"fair women with beautiful, big lustrous eyes." Surah 55:58-"like unto rubies and coral."Surah55:56-these women would be "maidens, chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn (spirit being) before them has touched". Surah 55:36-Allah "made them virgins".

So in conclusion, these verses and all prove that if u die as a martyr for Allah and fight in his cause you will reap the rewards and be promised virgins. What are women promised if they become martyrs? Kudos to Mark Gabriel for having the courage to show us the truth. I wish I could meet you. Like I have said before, The truth hurts, but it is still the truth.

was this what Christians are advised to do...ruin the name of another religion, just for their own sake??? of course not!!!! Gabriel uses false facts, or takes quotes totally out of context in ALL the sources he has used in this book!!! And why, may I ask, do we always refer to the terrorists (who just happen to be Muslim) as Islamic terrorists??? Look at the Israelies in Palestine and us in Iraq...do the Muslims EVER refer to us as CHRISTIAN TERRORISTS, or JEWISH TERRORISTS... of course not! So just because this small group of terrorists are Muslim...doesn't mean they're horrible acts og crime have ANY connection to their religion!!!! GABRIEL...GO RUIN SOMEONE ELSES LIFE~
