| If You Really Loved Me: 100 Questions on Dating, Relationships and Sexual Purity | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Have you ever asked yourself. . .
- Why should I wait for marriage to have sex? - How far is too far? - How do I say "no"? - What if we really love each other? - How do I find the right spouse? - How do I start over? - What about safe sex? - How do I know if this is love? These days, virgins may be embarrassed by their lack of "experience" while non-virgins may feel that it's too late for them. Men and women of all ages feel compelled to "take their relationships to the next level" - meaning they think it's time to have sex, not to try on wedding rings. Chastity author and speaker Jason Evert addresses these issues, and dozens more, in "If You Really Loved Me: 100 Questions on Dating, Relationships, and Sexual Purity." The questions in this landmark work are the most common ones Evert is asked when speaking about the virtue of chastity in hundreds of Catholic, Evangelical Christian, and public schools. His humorous, friendly, and blunt approach opens hearts and minds to a topic often either rejected out of hand or misunderstood. Teens will find this book a useful guide to starting a relationship, deciding one's vocation, one day finding a potential spouse, and maintaining purity - without forsaking love. This book will give parents and educators new insights to help teens know the difference between love and lust. They may even look at their own lives differently, because as Evert explains, chastity is not only for singles; married couples must practice this virtue as well. "If You Really Loved Me" gives readers straight answers to tough questions. Addressing the relationship issues that today's young people face, Evert explains the often-misconstrued virtue of chastity - not as a rejection of human sexuality, but as an affirmation of authentic love. |

As a teenager, this book has helped me develop a better relationship with God and myself. It may seem like a book that tells you to save sex for marriage but its way more than that. It answers a lot of questions that teenagers face everyday & are afraid to ask their parents. Jason Evert explains things so well and in a matter that teenagers can understand. I highly recommend this book for every Catholic teenager.

"Is french kissing a mortal sin?"
The first section of the book seemed pretty bad, but as soon as I got to this question I had to laugh out loud. A mortal sin...french kissing...are you kidding me?!?! Talk about making frenching sound better than it is. After all if it could be a mortal sin, it must be good, right? eAll in all this book has a way too conversative view on sex, and it seems like it was written for a 13 year old. For me, a 22 year old that is soon getting married, this book was of little value. I don't feel that the author is speaking to me or being honest. In the trash it went. We gave each of our three oldest sons a copy of this wonderful book by Jason Evert. The author has a unique, humorous and special way of communicating the truth in love. This book is especially helpful for the teen years, but I would strongly recommend it for young adults as well. I also highly recommend his video "Romance Without Regret."

Jason approaches sexuality from a biblical perspective with such respect and insight. Every question is real, every answer full of compassion and wisdom, straight from God's word. We're building a purity class based on this and his video. Both are worth every penny.

I gave this book to my 22 yr old daughter and she really loved it. There are some very good analogies in this book and the author has a very gifted style of writing. HE is also a great speaker. His style is very entertaining and insightful.

I couldn't stand this book. I strongly disagree with some of the things he says.

As a "cradle catholic" I always heard "no..." but I never got the "why". As you get older (esp. with hormones in the mix) it gets harder to follow rules when you don't know "why". Deep down we know right from wrong but his book puts into words what we all know to be true in our hearts. The author has a great way of directly answering questions that you have always wondered about but didn't know who to ask. He clearly answers the questions and backs it up with several sources. I gave a copy to all the young people in my life, including my brothers who are 17 and 21 years old. This book would be great for parents trying to find the words to explain all the "no's". I think that his book is also a "must read" for anyone who would like to date or have a happy marriage. (Everyone!) Get two or more copies...you'll want everyone to read it.

It was a very good read but leaning to an extremism that borders on pre-19th century thinking. Dont get me wrong I agree with most of what the author says but it is also important to take on these issuses on a more progressive, modern way of thinking. Regardless, this is still a must read for everyone seeking to deepen in their personal sexual maturity.

Well to be honest, I haven't read the book yet, but after having Jason and his wife speak at my school (he is a pretty hilarious guy) I just thought that if he is this good at speaking/explaining things, than his book is definitly (spell??)going to be worth my time. So don't listen to that relativist guy, he has no clue what he is talking about.

When I first started reading the book, I must admit that I was skeptical and mocking (mostly because my dad insisted on me reading it and i am a rebel; i listen to no parent) but as I read on i started to be emotionally touched by Jason Evert's words. Not only did he answer many of my questions, he also brought up some good points that I could not help but pay attention to and that I had never even thought of (being 19 of course I thought I knew everything there was to know about sex). He explains everything concisely and to the point and does not beat around the bush about anything. His explanations truly touched my heart. And to the reviewer that thinks Jason Evert is a big liar trying to win everybody to his side, I suggest that he FIRST read the book and then tell me if "his side" isn't worth being on to be truly happy and fulfilled.
