I'm not really a girly-girl who starves herself or worries about what she eats, but I did put on a few pounds that needed to go. The recipes in this book are tasty and I have lost some weight. I've also been exercising, so I'm not going to say the book is completely responsible for the weight loss, but I think eating some of these meals really did help. Good luck girls!

This is a great book, and an even better extension of the Hungrygirl.com website. I literally use these recipes every single day, and they really help me keep on track with Weight Watchers. A majority of the recipes are for 1 or 2 servings, which helps me dive right in and make them for myself instead of trying to divide out the recipes. It's easier to double or triple the recipe anyway, so that isn't a problem when I'm cooking for more than myself. Most recipes are no more than 3 points, while many are only 1 or 2 points. I've been able to eat all of the foods I love again thanks to Lisa's great ideas for tweaking recipes. I highly recommend the book.

I absolutely love this book! Every recipe I have tried has been easy and delicious. A huge plus for me is the number of recipes for one person! It is SO nice to be able to prepare just enough for me. The tips in the back of the book to help keep us on track in different situations are fabulous.

As a huge hungrygirl.com fan the book did not dissapoint! While I have only tried a couple of the recipes it was exactly what I knew Lisa would turn out. The only (very small) disappointment was that the WW points were not listed on the recipes.

Well, I had really high hopes for this book, but if you're looking to actually be healthy, and enjoy your food, and live a healthy lifestyle long-term, this probably isn't the book for you. Too many weird chemical and tofu substitutions. Even the recipes that seemed promising didn't really taste good when I actually made them. A MUCH better book is "The Most Decadent Diet Ever" by Devin Alexander. She uses real food that you can live with forever. Her "Chocolate Not Only In Your Dreams Cake", is absolutely to die for, and it has real brown sugar, not splenda, 5 grams of fiber (without adding fiber one cereal), tastes totally indulgent, and you get a real life size portion for 3 weight watchers points! Now that's what I'm talking about!!! And it was easy to make to boot!

I used to love reading Hungry Girls newsletter, which I had signed up to have automatically sent to my email.
Then I began noticing that she just seemed to be a product pusher. The focus was no longer on whole foods and making them the center of healthy living; it was on the latest fat-free, low-carb, sugar-free product on the market.

I was hoping this book would be different, but it is just a regurgitation of all of her newsletter information and I have to agree with other reviewers' comments that it's not all that healthy.

Girl, if you're hungry, eat some real food - NOT Fiber One and Splenda!

I have been a "Hungry-Girl" for years and when they announced the cookbook I was giddy with the thought of lots and lots of guilt free food, and believe me I was not disappointed!! I have pretty much fed my family for 2 weeks from this cookbook alone. My 6 year-old loved the V10 soup, my 3 year old could not get enough of the Pineapple Chicken skewers. Every recipe has been SIMPLE, delicious, and totally filling. I have already noticed a difference in my energy levels, and the way my clothes are fitting, which is always a good thing for someone who is against dieting but still wants to lose weight and feel healthy.

I totally recommend this to everyone!!!

This is a great cookbook. I have been on weight watchers for several months now and have lost 33 pounds. This book gives great recipes for things you might not normally eat on a diet and cuts the calories
and fat in half with most recipes. I still get
to eat sweets and it makes me NOT feel deprived. I would recommend this cook book to anyone wanting to cut their calories and fat and still get great tasting foods.

(Hide Review...)  FEED YOUR CRAVINGS
Reviewer Permalink
I was curious about this wildly popular cookbook, "Hungry Girl". The theme of the book seems to be "feed your every craving without piling on the calories". The book has recipes for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, appetizers, party foods, desserts, baked goods, junk foods, and cocktails. It provides low-calorie versions of frozen margaritas, fudge, ice cream freezes, burgers, French fries, pizzas, onion rings, burritos, chocolate cake, brownies, cheese nachos, and other "guilt-free" junk foods. The book also provides cooking tips and shopping lists.

This book seems to be focused on providing recipes that are lower in fat and calories so you can eat your favorite foods without feeling quite as guilty. It is not a book that emphasizes nutrition or healthy eating. Hungry Girl could be helpful to people who are just beginning to become aware of what they are eating and are looking for a first step in changing how they prepare foods. It also would be of interest to someone not particularly interested in health, but just looking for some recipes that are lower-calorie versions of standard American favorite dishes. If you are looking for more of a change, I also recommend THE 3:00 PM SECRET: Live Slim and Strong, Live Your Dreams.

I haven't made any of these recipes yet but I just love reading her book and the newsletter I get through her website! Instead of a diet that tells you all the negative things like "Don't eat batter fried onion rings....ever", she shows you how to make them her way and compares them ingredient to ingredient with the fattening ones. It's a book full of pep and bounce and just a real feel-good about dieting. The only thing I miss is that you have to go to her website to see the photos of what you are reading in the book, but I understand the book would be more expensive with photos. Also, she gets more people to her website that way. The other thing I don't like is that she's very commercial and I know diet brands are paying her to promote their products. I hope she stays true, though and doesn't advertise something that doesn't test out as low fat, or taste bad.

This book is totally wrong for a dieter. It doesn't emphasize any nutritional value in real, whole foods. Rather, this author uses over processed food that tastes like garbage. I'm a subscriber to her newsletter and I never make the recipes...learned that after 3 recipe flops...I was foolish to buy her book. Don't make my mistake! I promise there are healtier options out there, like Cooking Light and Weight Watcher recipes.

I couldn't disagree with W. Mate's review more. First of all, I have made the peanut butter fudge several times and you can't even taste the pumpkin. It was fudgy and moist and sooooo good. I think the recipes are clever and fun. They have all turned out well, and I'm finding staying focused on my diet (staying under 1400 calories a day) much easier. The recipes featuring the almost-no-calories tofu shiratake noodles are becoming a staple in my home. I love this book!

Fair warning: This book is not for everyone, whether hungry or not. If you like the hungry-girl website, AND you like the recipes Lisa shares, you will like a lot of the recipes in this book. I love the site, love Lisa, don't love all the recipies (just as I don't like some of the products she reviews--no one can agree on everything). That said, the book is lovely. I won't make all the recipes--I wouldn't, would you? But there are enough very clever, fun, creative recipies in here to more than satisfy my inner hungry girl. (I actually took out the book from a local library and THEN bought it, because it was something I wanted to have around.)

I am not saying the people who didn't like the recipes are wrong, anymore than the people who treat this book as their food bible are right. There is something for everyone in here. Some of the faux foods are NOT going to taste like the "real thing" (the tofu noodles? oh my gosh, they make me gag, I cannot even picture using them in some of these recipes). But the book is so fun, it is not expensive, it has lovely little tips from Lisa and the rest of the H-G gang, and there a handful of recipes I can see using time and again.

All in all, I am very happy with the purchase.

Many of the recipes in this book are very good! I've tried a couple that didn't work out so well (the peanut butter fudge, for example), but there are tons of great recipes. Two things I don't like: Lots of recipes use artificial sweetners (I've eliminated those from my diet--if it isn't natural, it doesn't go in me), and some of the recipes aren't actually recipes, and they're more suggestions of how to combine things (like a Jell-O pudding snack with graham cracker crumbs on top... genious). But overall, it's very useful and has not only some great recipes but also some interesting information about and innovative uses for certain foods.
