I just started cooking for my father who is a diabetic. This cookbook is great. It has a weekly list of ingredients so you can get a weeks worth at one time or you can shop day to day. I also like how it lists the number of starches, sugars, etc. for each recipe. It is a great help to someone who is new to diabetic cooking.Healthy Calendar Diabetic Cooking

I've used this recipe book for 5 weeks, and used the grocery list each time. I love making my grocery shopping trips quick and easy with this cookbook! I am also diabetic, and found that these recipes were low to moderate in carbohydrates, and offered the nutritional information I need. The recipes are also low in sodium and fat, which are other things I watch for. The down-side though, is that though most of the recipes said 25 minutes to prepare, most took 60 minutes (getting on the long side for me). I'd love to see these recipes updated to incorporate time-saving techniques.

The recipes from this book shatter any stereotypes that may be associated with the words "diabetic food". They're tasty and easy to prepare. The menu concept makes planning meals easier and provides great variety. I am not diabetic, but wanted to make healthier food choices and feel better about what I was eating. This book has been a valuable resource and has made the whole process a lot easier and more enjoyable than I thought it would be!

(Hide Review...)  I LOVE THIS COOKBOOK
Reviewer Permalink
I absolutely love this cookbook. I have many healthy cookbooks on my shelf and this is the best. I have cooked many of the recipes and have loved all but one of them. I have five children and they devour everything that I cook from this book - including my daughter that is such a picky eater I can't believe she can survive on what she eats. I use the cookbook exactly how they say to and it works great for me. I photocopy the shopping list, cross off what I already have, and go shopping. I double the recipes because most of them are for 4 to 6 people and we have 7. Then my husband and daughter can take leftovers to work and school the next day. The recipes are very easy to prepare, the instructions easy to understand, and there are no weird ingredients. I have already bought a copy to send to my diabetic sister and I recomend it to everyone I talk to. Do yourself a favor and get this book!

I really liked the idea of a year of recipes, but having tried this out for a week so far, I've found it lacking. Although I loved the idea of a weekly grocery list, this makes skipping recipes impossible, which I have to sometimes because they call for equipment that I don't own (like a BBQ grill) or foods that I can't eat, and the portion sizes vary tremendously. However, all the recipes for the first week I tried were delicious and not too complicated.

I have been cooking out of this for a few weeks now and EVERY recipe has turned out great! I am very impressed with the easyness of the recipes and the end result each time! I tend to cut the recipes in half since it is just my husband and I. There is a shopping list at the beginning of each week, then each recipe is listed with the prep time, number of servings, the diatary exchange, some nutritional facts, and a few have pictures. I really do love this cookbook!

I received this book in Feb., but started with the first week of recipes. Most of the meals have been good, some have been excellent. They seem to be right in line with low glycemic diet guidelines. Several meals that claim to serve 4 didn't serve 3. I have skipped some meals, but have tried several new herbs and vegs.

One reservation--not everyone can tolerate chili, cumin, cayenne pepper, and other "hot" food items. Suggestions for alternate flavorings would have been nice.

I intend to keep using this book to the end, and then start over again, with my own notes and reminders on each recipe I have already tried.

I have been using this book for a year. It is very user friendly. The recipes are easy to make, delicious, and foolproof. I especially like the shopping lists for each week. Before doing my weekly shopping, I highlight the items I need to purchase. Grocery shopping has never been so easy! I've purchased at least a dozen copies of this cookbook to give as gifts. I can't wait for Ms. Rondinelli to publish another cookbook!

This has been the most helpful cookbook I've ever had. Not only are the meals easy to prepare and delicious, but you even have the shopping list made out. It's a great tool to use for diabetics, or for anyone who wants to eat healthy and loose weight.

I've shared it with several friends and co-workers who love it too. We are looking forward to more from Ms. Rondinelli and Ms. Bucko.

I have this cook book and it's one of the best cookbooks I own. We don't have diabetes but I am on Weight Watchers and these recipes are good for those trying to lose weight but love tasty, delicious easy-to-make recipes. I bought a couple of these books for friends for the holidays.

I love this book. The recipes are simple yet tasty and, with a little help, even my 8 year old can make most of them. Since my daughter is using insulin to carb ratios, the information on grams of carbohydrate per serving size is extremely useful. I look forward to more books by Ms. Rondinelli.

My mother-in-law recently suffered a heart attack. Her doctor sent her home with dietary information, but she had difficulty using the information to develop daily menus. I ordered this book for her, and from the first day she found recipes that made sense, were easy to prepare, and better still, were tasty selections. She is able to plan her shopping trips so that she buys staples on a monthly basis, and perishables weekly. She has since lost 30 pounds (in 2 1/2 months), is now exercising regularly, and all of her friends want the book as well. We are ordering for our household, and will continue to refer people to this wonderful cookbook.

When my husband first was diagnosed with Type 2, we thought of it as his issue to deal with, albeit with our support. However, it really is a family issue. This cookbook transformed our lives because we began having meals that were wonderful for him and appealing to our whole family, including my two picky teenagers. It has expanded their pallettes with food choices they would never have experienced, but for this book. I have made every recipe (except stuffed peppers--my husband vetoed that one) since the Jan 1 recipe, and we are now into September. They have all been wonderful. I feel invigorated as a cook and happy to be supporting my husband and preparing healthy choices for my kids. Please hurry with Volume 2!!!!!

Although I'm not diabetic, this cookbook is a wonderful addition to my cookbook collection. Who doesn't want the interesting, useful and fun facts that accompany each recipe? Who doesn't want to learn how to make delicious meals more healthful? If you're an experienced chef or a sometimes cook at home, this is a great cookbook to have.
