Readers beware. The brilliant, breathtaking conclusion to J.K. Rowling's spellbinding series is not for the faint of heart--such revelations, battles, and betrayals await in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that no fan will make it to the end unscathed. Luckily, Rowling has prepped loyal readers for the end of her series by doling out increasingly dark and dangerous tales of magic and mystery, shot through with lessons about honor and contempt, love and loss, and right and wrong. Fear not, you will find no spoilers in our review--to tell the plot would ruin the journey, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is an odyssey the likes of which Rowling's fans have not yet seen, and are not likely to forget. But we would be remiss if we did not offer one small suggestion before you embark on your final adventure with Harry--bring plenty of tissues.
The heart of Book 7 is a hero's mission--not just in Harry's quest for the Horcruxes, but in his journey from boy to man--and Harry faces more danger than that found in all six books combined, from the direct threat of the Death Eaters and you-know-who, to the subtle perils of losing faith in himself. Attentive readers would do well to remember Dumbledore's warning about making the choice between "what is right and what is easy," and know that Rowling applies the same difficult principle to the conclusion of her series. While fans will find the answers to hotly speculated questions about Dumbledore, Snape, and you-know-who, it is a testament to Rowling's skill as a storyteller that even the most astute and careful reader will be taken by surprise. A spectacular finish to a phenomenal series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a bittersweet read for fans. The journey is hard, filled with events both tragic and triumphant, the battlefield littered with the bodies of the dearest and despised, but the final chapter is as brilliant and blinding as a phoenix's flame, and fans and skeptics alike will emerge from the confines of the story with full but heavy hearts, giddy and grateful for the experience. --Daphne Durham Visit the Harry Potter Store

Okay ... I don't know what more could be said about this book ... good, bad or otherwise ... but here's my 2 cents worth:
I'm a grandmother, avid reader of all kinds of books. My son gave me the first 4 HP books for Christmas a few years back. My immediate reaction was "ick .. children's books .. did you make a boo-boo?" However, I read them (knowing nothing about HP) and was absolutely delighted. They took me to that place all favorite books do. I was drawn in to the story; the characters became a part of me; and I just had to see how it all turned out. So, there's the history. I thought JK was spot-on with this book. She tied up all the loose ends, let us see most of our favorite characters again, one last time, and gave us an ending that tied in all of the hints and bits and pieces that came with the first 6 books. IMHO, it was brilliant. My only objection ... I would have loved one more chapter .. after Harry wonders if Kreacher would bring him a sandwich. I would have loved to see the immediate reactions of the Weasleys (especially Ginny), the Hogwart's teachers, the remaining OotP members, etc. But I'm glad she did the 16 years later chapter. It will have to be enough. Thank you for a great ride Harry! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-05 03:32:45 EST)

Most people, by now, already know about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. You have probably read it or heard about it. My review is going to foucs on the DELUXE EDITION of the book.
In this edition, you are immediately greeted by a cover box that has the same picture art as the front and back of the dust jacket of the standard edition. The actual dust jacket of this edition has a great four panel artist rendition of the trio flying on the dragon after their daring escape from Gringotts. The actual book itself has a black cover with red embossed lettering on the spine (very spiffy) as opposed to the standard edition which is goldenrod with red embossing. Inside there is a great color artist drawing (on slick paper) of the scene outside the Malfoy Manor. Quite cool. In the rear of the book is a blown-up version of all 37 chapter title artworks and the lines from the book in which the artist derived the pictures. It really explains what she was thinking and makes the book quite nice. Now, I bought this when it was priced at the INCREDIBLE price of $13.00 which made it practically a steal. If you can get it on sale, it's worth it for the avid Harry Potter fan. Seeing as none of the text is different, there's no sense in getting this edition unless it's cheap or you just appreciate the artist's wonderful work. Picked this book up at midnight on the release date, started reading it the same night, and finished it the next day, couldn't put it down I had to know what happened next. J.K. Rowling did such a great job as a writer over the entire series, growing into the role of a writer and maturing as her characters matured. I only wish she would have gone into more details in the epilogue of the book with the secondary characters and what happened with them, but that didn't take away from the 5 stars this book and series deserved. If after a year since the release, and you still haven't read it you better get out there and get a copy.

What a series. And to cap it off the way J.K. Rowling did - truly unbelievable.
Harry Potter must set out on a mission with his two friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, to find and destroy Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes, the pieces of soul that are keeping Voldemort immortal. Only after the destruction of the Horcruxes can Voldemort be defeated forever. In the story, Harry faces difficult surroundings, adversity, persecution, tragedy, losses, adventure, bravery, and most importantly, love. J.K. Rowling has gone to new lengths with this incredible series. You can find pieces of the story littered around all seven of the books. I get excited when I find hints, clues, and pieces of foreshadowing that are later discussed and are essential pieces of the puzzle in the other books. J.K. Rowling is a master at the linking of the story, one which she began writing in 1991 on napkins in the local cafe because of her poverty, to other pieces of the story. She has truly opened up the eyes of all of the doubters and all of the people who once said that such an amazing feat was an impossible task. J.K. Rowling started off with nothing, struggling to live a normal life, sometimes having to go hungry in order to feed her baby daughter. She has become a woman who is the highest grossing author in history. Most importantly, the Harry Potter series has led hundreds of millions of children to start reading and also gave children, and adults as well, a friend and a comfort in the characters of Harry Potter. It is sad that the Harry Potter series cannot continue, but all good things in life must eventually come to an end. We should all praise the work ethic and efforts of J.K. Rowling, a person who has shown that anything is possible with just a little stroke of magic. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-03 02:32:25 EST)

I am so very much glad this series is finished and one with. I think God will smite all those whom wrote it and all those whoe read it. The series is about witches and devils and satin worship and that is evil! I do not think that this author will sell many books in this series, for which I am glad because I do not want to see him make any money from these evil books, but I feel sorry for those whom do by them as they are sinning buy reading them. I read this book, even though my pature told us not to because I wanted to be fair. I was disgusted by what I read. I think that all good god fearing peoples should buy all these books and burn them and send them back to satin where they belong. Did you know in this book that Harry Potter actually kissed a girl in her bedroom! Do you want your children exposed to stuff like that? Kissing before you are married is a sin. Children the age that will read this book should not be exposed to that sort of thing. I do not no if all the sex in this book was worset or if the majic was...it is all sin. My pasture told us, and when I read the book I found is so, that Hagrid had unnatural relationships with animals. My paster told us that not only were the books about magac, but about unnatural sex acts to. I will pray for all of you peoples who have read these books.

This was a great finish to an even greater series of books. Not only did the ending book thrill and excite me but it also gave great closure to anyone who followed the series intently. A must read for Potter-fans and non fans alike.

Obviously readers of the series will need to read this book. That said I'm glad that this series is coming to a close. The quality of writing and the value of the story has degraded dramatically over the years.

I was so excited when I got this book...but so nervous I was almost afraid to open it! What was going to happen? I had speculated for so long, I was almost afraid to find out. The story delivered! There were nailbiting moments as Harry and company invaded the ministry of magic, and the sadness of Hogwarts without Dumbledore. The final confrontation was spine tingling and frightening, but the triumph over Voldemort is worth every moment. JK Rowling ROCKS as a story teller and I can't wait to see what she conjurs up next!

I'll keep this review short and to the point as this book has been reviewed several times already. I'm sure you'll all remember - being a Harry Potter fan or not, the huge hype leading up to Deathly Hallow's release. Even through this hype, J.K. Rowling has managed to produce one of the finest books ever written.
Before you consider the critical reviews, consider the fact that they were probably written by dissapointed, hard-core fans. Buy this book. read this book. Appreciate its greatness. Thankyou. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-23 03:00:43 EST)

I preordered this book as soon as it became available.
I wanted to savor this one since it would be the last in the series. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I tore through it in three days. A fine and fitting end to the series, it wraps things up very nicely. I'm not giving anything away, but if you're like me and you've stuck with Potter through all seven books, you'll love this one also. Action, drama, a stellar story line, basically the six previous books all wrapped into one book. I'm feeling sad though, is this really the end? That's the only reason I didn't like this book. I wanted ten more to read after this one. Will Rowling really let the Potter series rest in peace? I hope not, there's just too much potential to further the series. Like the real world we live in, there is no shortage of real life villains. Why should the Potter world be any different? I understand if Rowling wants to go in a different direction, but it would be nice if she would revisit this world someday. We can only hope and give her our appreciation for some of the most enjoyable, memorable, and downright fun books ever written. Thank you J.K. Rowling and thank you Hollywood for making the last two books into two movies to do the book justice. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-23 02:53:07 EST)

I don't even know where to begin. These books have touched my life and I am so grateful JK Rowling took the chance and persevered in getting Book 1 published. Book 7 is a stunning conclusion to a truly amazing series, and definitely my favorite of all 7 books. I got the book at midnight and finished it 12 hours later. Then I went to sleep, got up and started re-reading it more slowly. I don't think I will ever feel this way about a book ever again, and I was depressed the adventure had come to an end. If you have not read Harry Potter, please give it a try. You won't regret it! My favorite scene was probably the one near the end when Harry defends McGonnagal in the Ravenclaw common room. And of course the thrilling battle, which - as my friend put it - hit the stratosphere. And the Kings Crossing scene. And pretty much the entire book. Read it!

Book 7. The end. And really, kudos to Rowling for sticking with making it a finite series. Kudos, too, for writing something that captured the imagination of so many people of all ages. It's incredible how widespread the appeal of Harry Potter is. I'm in awe of her imagination and ability to strike such a nearly-universal chord.
I very much enjoyed this book--all the wrapping up of various threads, the explanations, tying things together--it was a satisfying conclusion, fitting to the rest of the series. That said, though, I'm not one of those who thinks these are the Best Books Ever(tm). Sorry, but I'm not. I acknowledge and applaud their popularity and entertainment value, but they're not perfect. Everybody knows the story already, yes? Basically, it's Harry Potter, boy wizard, vs. Voldemort, the evilest dark wizard ever. And this is the last book, the showdown. Everything else is secondary to that. Right, then. The biggest problem I had with Deathly Hallows is the Great Swampy Middle. Harry and only one or two of his friends (see how cleverly I avoided spoilers, there?) spend almost the whole middle half of the book wandering around pretty much aimlessly. Oh, things happen, but it's mostly just by luck or happenstance, and they spend an inordinate amount of time bored and discouraged, and that emotion really gets passed on to the reader. Case in point: I'm currently reading it aloud with my sons at breakfast. We're smack in the middle. At the beginning of the book, they were quiet, hanging on every word. Now, they interrupt, go off on tangents talking about other things--in short, they're not involved in this part of the book. They're bored. My second biggest problem was the deaths. Oh, come on. That's not a spoiler. Everybody knows there are deaths--people have been speculating for years about who it'll be. I'm fine with there being deaths--it is a war, after all, and people die--but it's the way Rowling writes them. It's very casual, a behind-closed-doors sort of thing, the way some authors treat sex scenes. Which is also okay, in theory, except that generally, even if they close the door, you know the gist of what's going on behind it. Not so, here. I'm all for leaving out the gory physical details, but not the emotional ones. They were so down-played that I didn't even believe them, and that also goes for the previous two deaths in the series--I fully expected the characters to pop up again, because she didn't make the deaths real. I'm not sure I've explained it completely--every time I discuss it, somebody ends up thinking I'm either wanting nobody to die, or I'm wanting blood and guts. I guess the main thing is I wanted them to be more believable, and I wanted them to mean something. Yes, yes, in real life death is often pointless. But this isn't that kind of book. Then there were the Deathly Hallows. Yes, they explain a couple of things, and answer a question I hadn't even thought to ask, but they seemed to come out of nowhere, and we're still burdened with the Horcruxes that came out of nowhere in the last book, and they really seemed to clutter up the plot. The "romance" with Ginny was another pointless cluttering. She's hardly in the book at all, except for the occasional wistful thought from Harry, and I'd have been happier without it. And Dudley. There's a Big Deal with him at the beginning of the book, but that's it. Over. Finished. No follow-through. Reeaaaally annoying. Don't get me started on the epilogue. It was reminiscent of romance series epilogues, listing all the couples from the various books, and the number and gender of their offspring and pets. And it's just as pointless. But yeah, apart from all that--I did enjoy the book, and I'm glad I read it, and I really meant all those earlier kudos. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-15 01:10:39 EST)

This book was bar far one of the best in the series. I always love how in depth she goes with the characters. You can not help but grow to love every single one of them, and feel their pain when something happens. Their were some parts however that felt like that drug on forever, but she always managed to throw in some twists and turns into those. Highly recommended, great read.

however, i have got the rest of the series on audio books read by steven fry. and i must admit, i did enjoy his reading style better. also, last cd cannot be read in my computer (probably so book cannot be copied), therefore it is not possible to listen to it on my mp3 player. pity. Ok, although I liked this book, I felt like there was a lot of things that were still left unanswered. Like, what was the past with Harry's Parents? In The series, this was never explained. What did they do? Even that would have been enough to be happy about. It was a good story, don't get me wrong. I couldn't put it down. But I think there was a lot more that was supposed to go into the story that didn't make it because of who knows what. Maybe editing or whatever, but I think in some areas it was edited poorly. I had talked to a friend before sitting down to read it, so I knew that there was a lot that was still left out, but at the same time the least they could have done when she was talking about Harry's parents was FINALLY let people know what they did for a living!!!!
I'm a big fan of Harry Potter books, I started reading them right after the second one came out, but I just feel like the first books were better. ALMOST like she got tired of writing them so she just threw some things together to make the series be over with. A little disappointing ending to an overly good series. What a disappointment. I have been a fan for years but this wimpy ending leaves me cold. Where to start. Virtually everything that happens had been predicted by one of the fan sites. Snape killing Dumbledore is not murder. Snape who only ever helps Harry because of his mother and who spends the whole series hiding out in comfortable Hogwarts, playing both ends against the middle, who has nearly no redeeming qualities including his demonstrating his superiority to children is supposed to be a hero.
Suddenly we find that the reason Harry never becomes an overpowering wizard is because he will be saved by Voldemort's poor wand choice. And rather than Harry being the hero we all hoped, Hermione becomes the one who keeps pulling his chestnuts out of the fire. Add to this an ending that was practically stolen from C.S. Lewis and the series ends with a fizzle not a bang. Thank heaven for fan fiction. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-08 01:09:39 EST)

J.K. Rowling is an exceleent writer and can make the worst book seem interesting, like book 7. It's all filler, like Harry, Ron and Hermione camping from place to place, it's just a waste of time and paper! Then, the actual battle with Voldemort is far too short! We all need to stick with the tried and true, like the Adventures With Boys series, now that's awesome!!!

I cannot say enough about this series. I am 50 years old, have always been extremely into children's literature- most of the children in my life receive classics from me for birthdays and holidays. The Harry Potter series is one of the best I have read. Each book is special in its own way and each allows us to know the characters a little better.
Every parent should be reading through this series with their pre-teens and teens. They are an absolute delight that every child should experience! Wonderful!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-02 01:11:36 EST)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a fantastic book. I know many people who read the entire book at once. I personally made myself put it down, this way I could really think about it hard, and cherish it longer. There are not enough ways to thoroughly describe what each individual reader my experience while reading this outstanding literature, but it is worth every penny to discover it for you self. I would highly recommend this book to reader, and if this is your first book of the Harry Potter series, I would go back a few first, that way this book will be all the more amazing!

This is the best book of the series. I was a little disappointed by a few of the characters they left alive but the fights all make up for that. I loved the action and cant wait to see the movie. its all tied together so well that it would be very hard to leave any of this book out or change things around.

It's all been said, and much better than I could - but I will just reiterate the obvious - this book does not disappoint! Bravo to J.K. Rowling and I can't wait to see what she has in store for the world next time around.

This book was probably my favorite out of the six proceeding novels written by J.K. Rowling. The Deathly Hallows lived up to its expectation of the rumors online. What made this book so great would be all of the action scences that help unfold the series, along with the explanations of the many questions I still needed answered. Rowling did a magnificent job in completing this series.
The final battle scence was the greatest of all. With all of the twists and turns of who will die and survive made this exciting. At one point I was positive that my worst fear was about to become a reality, but Rowling tricked me again with her plan. The setting was all over the place. It went from forests to Hogwarts to The Ministry of Magic. Each place had its special meaning of purpose in the story. I wasn't sure what would come next with all of the switching that occured in the novel. One of the conflicts and resolutions in this great story was infact the search of the Horocrux's. Harry, Hermione and Ron search all over the place to find and then distroy these evil items of Lord Voldemorts magic. This task became so great one of the members decided to leave the group behind. As Rowling unfolds later in the text this person decided to join the group again and rescue Harry from a horrible death. After all of the horocrux's were found except for one I was worried. Voldemort wanted to finish Harry off himself and he thought he did until... (you will have to read the book to find out) As I said earlier J.K. Rowling completed a masterpiece of a series. These books she created were all spectacular. The Deathly Hallows might have been her greatest piece of work. I thank you all who helped out with the completion of the Harry Potter Series. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows has a very interesting story line. My favorite part, a pretty long part is when Harry and his brave friends go on an adventure to destroy all parts of Lord Voldermorts soul. And interesting part of the book is when he is at the Weasel's house and the death eaters start to appear. But best of all will Harry Potter defeat the dark and evil Lord Voldermort or will evil prevail.
His best friends are Ron and Hermione; they set off on and adventure to defeat all of Lord Voldermorts souls. Its difficult to find the parts of Lord Voldermorts soul because he has hidden them all over the world; nobody knows were they are, and death eaters are on the hunt looking for the famous Harry Potter and his two friends. Once again they set off on a mission, but little do they know it's going to take more than some will power to conquer the task at hand. My favorite part is when the death eaters come to Ron's house because it not expected it like a surprise attack on Harry Potter, but will Harry and his friend's escape? This part of the book is really detailed and it contains a lot of the juice in the story. Will the Order let Harry out on this dangerous mission that Dumbledore has given him. What gig did Dumbledore give Harry? (Quote) "I cant leave said Harry I've got a job - " give it to some one else!" "I cant its got to be me Dumbledore said." While on the journey Ron just ups and leaves why is that? Professor Snape becomes the head master of Hogwarts is this the end. In this book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows I liked how J.K Rowling put all of the characters in but they each have their own story to tell about the future of the wizarding world. It was interesting how she made Harry Potter the focus but she also had a way of putting Ron and Hermione in there and made them just as important. These two characters are important because they help Harry discover the mystery of were the Dark Lord has hidden the parts of his soul. Ron and Hermione are especially important because they keep Harry sane, they make sure he doesn't do anything stupid and they need Hermione to do all of their magic spells, especially the ones that Ron and Harry don't know. You need to have Ron because Hermione wouldn't have gone with out him plus he is a good friend with Harry, another reason he has to go. The style of J.K Rowling was just so interesting you wouldn't want to put the book down. Just like the rest of the Harry Potter series J.K Rowling has shocked me again. The mysteries and the enjoyment you will get out of this book is tremendous, people always put book into categories it can be funny sad boring or it could be a boo k that just doesn't have a categories you can put this book under Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I give this book a five out of five, well done J.K well done. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-23 01:12:35 EST)

English is not my mother language but because of Harry Potter I started to read English books too. And with pleasure, I have to add. I'm over 40 years old, and I find Rawling fiction very interesting, relaxing and fun, all at once.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (book 7). Where to begin?
I'll start off by saying that I do not envy Ms. Rowling's task in writing this story--the most anticipated book release in history. There was virtually no way for her to please everyone; in fact, I would imagine that essentially every fan of the series had at least one or two gripes with the way things played out, if not more. As for me, I felt it was a satisfactory conclusion in terms of the result, but disappointing in many of the details and the methods to get there. For starters, this book is full to overflowing with logical gaps and questionable plot elements. The issue of wand succession, for instance, casts a very confusing light on the rest of the series, in retrospect. Also, the Gringott's sequence is entertaining but far-fetched, as is the early escape sequence on brooms. The final duel is anticlimactic in many ways, although I appreciate the sequence of events leading to it. Unfortunately, the entire finale of the book makes Voldemort look like a complete moron, and it certainly is inconsistent with the claim that he is the most powerful and brilliant wizard in the world. The whole back story behind Dumbledore is a nice touch, as it brings him down off of his pedestal and shows that he, too, is flawed. It particularly makes sense when viewed through the lens of J.K. Rowling's post-publication revelation that Dumbledore was in love with (or at least was infatuated with) Grindelwald in his youth. Although it is not spelled out in the story, it is a believable and understandable reason for someone like Dumbledore to act and think in a way contrary to what we would otherwise believe of him. Some people argue that the whole plot line centering on the deathly hallows is unnecessary and just distracts from the main objective, and I concede that they are not strictly necessary to the overthrow of Voldemort. However, they do provide an interesting "temptation"/distraction from Harry's main quest, and thus allow a bit of character growth to occur, so I think that they are a nice addition to the story. My most overwhelming gripe about the story is the vast expanse of word count devoted to Harry, Ron, and Hermione... camping. Not just camping, but camping and making no progress whatsoever towards any of their goals. Sure, it's probably true that they are lost and lacking guidance (would it have been so bad to get a little help from the adults? Honestly...), but it's almost enough to make one abandon the story altogether. Well, there is one other major gripe, but I'll get to that last... Personally, I am disappointed with how a few of the character arcs end. Only Neville Longbottom seems to come out much better than he started. Most notably, I think that Snape and Draco Malfoy get somewhat shafted in terms of how they could have shaped the story more powerfully. Both are deeply flawed characters, and both could have some valuable and interesting lessons to teach about prejudices. It is sad that, with the exception of a very brief moment in the epilogue (the ONLY worthwhile part of that travesty), Slytherin House is uniformly maligned and that there is never a meaningful "conversion" of ANY Slytherin to "fight for the right" actively, and with Harry's knowledge and understanding. In addition, I thought that the prevalence of death in this final book was somewhat overdone. I don't think that it was necessary for so many of the old beloved characters to die in order for the point to be made. Enough said. And finally, my main complaint: the utterly repulsive and completely pointless epilogue, which seems to exist only to destroy our right, as readers, to imagine "what happens next?" in our own minds and in our own way. It is almost offensive the way it snatches away our imaginations, and all so that it can offer up the names of the next generation, and a few quick hints as to what everyone might be up to 20 years on. I understand that Ms. Rowling probably wanted to give a sappy, happy ending, and show that yes, life goes on, and in the process eliminate the possibility of sequels or the like... but really? I think readers deserve to imagine the outcome for themselves, as they have invested their imaginations into the story from the beginning. Perhaps it's just my personal distaste for Ginny Weasley... Well anyway, how was that for a rant? I think I've said enough. If you read the rest of the series, don't stop now. But don't be surprised if things don't play out quite as you had hoped, and don't expect this to be the most tightly-written story either. I think of it as merely the "official" account of how the story ends, which may or may not be totally accurate. :) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-22 01:08:32 EST)

This is not my favorite in the series, however I think it is the best writen of the series. I was sad to see the end of Harry Potter, but alas that is the fun part, you can start over again and not have to wait for the books to be published! Awesome work!

J.K. Rowling once again pulls the reader into the world of Hogwarts, but this time Harry, Ron and Hermoine are on the run. Rowling did a wonderful job capturing the paranoia and fear of Voldemort that was parallel to the Nazi take over in 1940s Germany. Harry and his trusty posse do not know who to trust and their world seems to spin out of control in front of their very eyes. Beautifully crafted so all loose ends are tied, but a sadness is left as the characters move on as the story comes to a close. The book is hard to put down from Chapter One.

The seventh book in the Harry Potter series does not disappoint. Harry's adventures in the Deathly Hallows allow the reader to experience Harry's coming of age in a powerful and profound way. Many of the themes that have been laced throughout the first six books are drawn forth in this final installment and readers find themselves feeling more in this book than they had in the previous six.
In the Deathly Hallows, Harry takes on many characteristics of a completely grown man. Because Rowling had done such an excellent job of allowing the readers to follow Harry's maturation, this installment's coverage of Harry's character is impressive. He has really become a man who others can look up to. For a young reader Harry is a fantastic role model. His willingness to put others first speaks volumes about the kind of person he is. Without giving the end of the story away (though I am certain others may have done so) Harry goes to great lengths to ensure that others will be fine whether he is present or not. Of course, Harry's partners in crime add just as much to this seventh installment as they had the previous six. The familial relationship created between Ron, Hermione, and Harry is a really great thing for the reader to be a part of. Most readers are able to relate to the type of friendship they have and as they read the text are able to put themselves in these young peoples' shoes. Would you give up an easier existence in order to be with your friends? It is certainly a testament to the quality of the characters in Rowling's text. As usual, the reading level of the text and the depth of thought required to fully digest it has increased as Harry and the others have aged. For the middle and elementary school reader, many of the themes might begin to be over their heads. However, the general storyline and character development is still such that a young reader could find a great deal of enjoyment in this text. Though this seventh book is perhaps the darkest of the series, it is still a manageable read that interested readers will devour. I would recommend this series, and this book in particular, to anyone I know with a love for fiction. It is difficult to remove oneself from the drama that consumes Harry and his friends and return to life in the real world. Once you pick up the book it will be difficult to focus upon anything else until you have completed the series and discovered the fate of Harry and his friends. For those of us who appreciate a tying up of loose ends, Rowling does not fail. You can close the book and rest well knowing the fate of all your most beloved characters. I watched the movies (1-4) before I read any of the books, but one day I saw the first book in my mother's office and I started to read it half-heartedly. I couldn't put it down. I then ordered the paperback set (Books 1-6) and read them all in a couple of months, while working 60+ hours a week. Sometimes I neglected to sleep. I ordered the last book the day I started reading book 6. I finished book six the day before book 7 came in the mail and I was chomping at the bit. I read it (all 700+ pages) in less than 48 hours. I cried and laughed and was horrified and overjoyed. The entire series is amazing and I recommend it to adults and children alike. I think some aspects are a little too scary for younger children.
My only complaint is that I would have liked a more detailed epilogue. You do get a glimpse at the end of the future of some of the remaining characters, but I would have liked a bit more detail and a bit more description as to how they got there and what happened to everyone else. I may have just had a hard time letting the characters go. As with any good fiction, you come to love and care for the characters and become emotionally invested in their journey so much that it almost becomes your own. I wasn't ready for it to end. A wonderful enthralling read and a mostly satisfying end to a fantastic series. I would recommend it to anyone! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 01:09:56 EST)

Before the seventh and final Harry Potter book came out I reread the 5 and 6 books so I would be more familiar with the facts. The cliffhanger at the end of the 6 book is huge there are hundreds of questions one could ask himself,is Dumbledore dead,is snape good, will Harry kill Voldemort, and there are countless others. The seventh book was really awesome It came out Friday night I read it sunday night. The plots and escapes are good and the book once you read it you feel as if it could be true, the everbody talks it amost sounds as if J.K. Rowling just copied down a story that really happened.

This book starts out fast passed and then goes to sleep after the first chapter and never wakes up. Honestly it reminds me of a really reminded me of the middle of StarTrek the movie when they encounter Voyager and are stuck on the ship. Great action before and after, but not this book. It was a total waste after the first chapter. Save your money here and on the later movie.

I think we all know that this book would be the most dramatic, climactic, and not to mention the best of the series. Now, I own all the Deathly Hollows books, ( regular and Dexluxe), and the CD audiobook. The book(s) of course was the best book I have ever read. But the audiobook caught me by surprise. I read the reviews around the wed and decided to go out on a limb and buy my first HP audiobook. I was completely blown away. The audiobook was definitly a better purchase than the Dexule edition and mabey the regular book. It is read wonderfully by Jim Dale. He reads it almost perfectly, his voice changes moods and piches perfectly. The audiobook, not to mention the book, is the best piece of media I have ever listened to, or read.

I couldn't believe this book! It was a little hard to fallow at first, but as you get into it... It really started to pick up on the excitement right from the start! Finding out secret after secret and problem after problem! It was just a thriller in its self. My personal thought is just this. I knew it the entire time about Professor Snape. Just knew it. And It was kind of obvious on who was gonna hook up with who, but exciting none the less.

What a great finale to the series. I've been reading the series since they first came out, and while I don't really qualify as a Harry Potter super-fan, I enjoy the diversion. This final book really brought everything together an a thoughtful, clever, and satisfying manner. Bravo.

I was so hesitant to begin the Harry Potter series, because I didn't think anything would be able to live up to the praise it had gotten. I had never been interested in fantasy, and the whole idea of wizards, magic, and good versus evil seemed too juvenile.
I could not have been more wrong. After the first few pages of The Sorcerer's Stone I knew I'd have to finish the whole series. I was instantly taken with the characters and unique plot. Ordinary wizards, these kids were not. J.K. Rowling has a way with imagery and dialogue, and the plot was irresistible. I read the first six books so quickly and waited anxiously for the seventh, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Arthur A. Levine Books, 2007). The last book in the series stands apart from the rest because of its complexity and character development. In the opinion of many, it is the best Harry Potter book by far. At 759 pages, you'd expect a lengthy read. However, once engrossed in the text, it reads quickly- so hard to put down! Although Rowling's books are at a seventh grade reading level and considered fantasy, adults cannot escape the charm they hold. This book begins as Voldemort, the Dark Lord, gathers his followers in pursuit of Harry Potter, the only wizard who is powerful enough to escape dark magic. Harry is about to turn 17, and he will no longer be guaranteed safety or comfort. The world in which he and his friends live has become riddled with danger and enemies. His faithful sidekicks, Ron and Hermione, are ready for the battle they know is inevitable: Harry must destroy Voldemort once and for all or accept the fact that dark magic will reign over the wizarding world. Throughout the book, Harry and his friends must maneuver their way through the perils that come with growing up and being responsible for so many secrets and possible solutions to Volemort's domination. Exciting plot twists keep you reading, and the suspense doesn't end (that is, of course, until the whole wonderful series does). While The Deathly Hallows is a captivating book, and a satisfying end to the Harry Potter series, it is a bit complicated. If you haven't read the first six books, don't pick up the seventh. You may even want to reread them if you've left a big gap of time before starting the last. Rowling is so subtle in scattering important details, that some of the plots twists may be lost on you if you haven't been paying attention. The Deathly Hallows is a wonderful book, but it cannot stand on its own. While I think that it's the best in the series, it would be impossible to enjoy without its six companions. Furthermore, it is a bit heavy in Harry Potter lingo. Sometimes Rowling could get to the same point with plain old English. The book is written for young readers, but it does include themes of evil, death, romance, and power struggle that may take a more mature reader to fully appreciate. All in all, I would recommend this book to any reader age 9 or up. It is a fantastic book, rich in imagery, and it immediately holds your attention. I could not be happier that I finally gave in and began the Harry Potter series. I just wish I hadn't waited so long. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 01:09:56 EST)

I was wary about this book going in as the last book in the series was less than satisfactory. The author did not let fans down in the last book though as it was well worth reading. There was much to like in the reading and the re was little left unanswered by the ending. Can't wait for the movies to come out.

This was an amazing book and I am kind of sad that it is the last book, but this novel is so action packed that I am so glad Time Warner has decided to make the movie a two part series since so much goes on in the book. It is a gripping novel. An "on the edge of your seat" thriller through out the whole novel. I wish Harry Potter would never end. It was a thrill to read the whole series.
