This was funny, sad and true. I'm glad I got it when I did as I doubt these will be around much longer. The seller provided it as promised and well within the shipment window promised.

My son loved this book as a baby, now 13 years later, we are reading it with a new perspective. When he was a baby, I used this book as a teaching tool, and now this parody teaches the unfortunate politics and policies of the Bush administration. The pictures are especially informative and loaded with meaning.

(Hide Review...)  Brutally funny take on the Bush years
Reviewer Permalink
A dark comedic masterpiece to anyone intimately familiar with the original "Goodnight Moon" and deeply disturbed by the Bush legacy. Having read "Goodnight moon" literally hundreds of times to my children when they were young, every page hit a familiar, yet oddly discordant note. The same kind of surreal visual progression yet lulling cadence is used as in the original to great effect. Lots of small details to notice on subsequent readings. A sad story, but one that carries a positive message that the end of this long trying "day" in American history is nearly over. A book you'll likely either love or hate.

A friend of ours bought us this book, and what a wonderful gift it is! I have it on the coffee table - for everyone to read and ponder. For those who don't know or have forgotten Margaret Wise Brown's Goodnight Moon, I recommend keeping a copy of her book close by. I got mine from the public library.

What is the best part of this book? It's impossible to choose. The polar bear rug by the bedside table is high on my list, as is Cheney sitting in the rocking chair, wearing his crooked smile and bunny slippers. Every time I go through the book I find some new little detail that I missed before. Watch the scales balancing church and state on the mantelpiece. Watch the lines of fine powder on the bedside table. This is a book that must be read - as the mills of God grind - "slowly ... yet exceedingly small".

The two pages most appropriate for these days' news: "Goodnight bubble bursting in air"; "And goodnight piggy beyond repair."

Everyone should keep a copy of this book. Lest we forget....

Finally a book written just for W, on a level which he will understand, so he can come to terms with what he has done to this country, and the world, without all those big words, and too much writey stuff! All the issues you'd want them to touch on, but still has that "sitting on Barbra's lap" feel to it, just for George! A MUST read if you've ever read Goodnight Moon to your kids!

Reviewer Permalink
OK - Mr Bush is not in the top 10 of US presidents, maybe not in the top 42 (thank you Jimmy Carter!), and for that accomplishment, the concept of making fun of him is not unexpected. However, the illustration of the toy plane crashing into the building blocks that are made to resemble the World Trade Center, well that is beyond terrible taste. I shouldnt have to explain why that in itself is horrific, but to teach this as a joke to children? The fact that this book was published in this poor taste and displayed in the children's department is a real shame.

This is a wonderful detail-filled parody of the children's book "Goodnight Moon". It has all the charm of the original, twisted into the bizarre world of Bush and Cheney. It is darkly humerous. I find that my friends who do not have children don't get it, as they have not read"Goodnight Moon" so I bought a copy for them to read before I hand them "Goodnight Bush".

Reviewer Permalink
"Goodnight Bush," an unauthorized parody of the 1947 children's bedtime classic "Goodnight Moon," written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd.

Without giving a way too much so I will just comment on a few illustrations: In place of the bunny rabbit character in the children's book, a childlike George Bush is tucked safely in bed surrounded by toys I'm assuming are suppose to represent different facets of the Bush administration. A tiny Osama Bin Laden peeks out from many of the pages, and a shotgun-toting Dick Cheney whispers, "Hush." There is no bunny snuggling into bed, but rather, Bush smiling and wearing a "Mission Accomplished" flight suit.

There are so many other clever illustrations that you will find yourself looking over and over again at each page. This book is obviously a short read about the arrogance of the ego maniacs who destroyed this great country.

Oh, how those who sit on the sidelines of this country (in the yellow zone, for cowards!) criticize and poke fun at those who have the incredibly difficult task of not only leading this country beyond the 9/11 attacks (basically having to clean up the Clinton lack of action in apprehending Osama Bin Laden when we had the chance - maybe a "Goodnight Cigars" book should be in the works - because that's what he was doing at the time!) but also dealing with numskulls who write books such as this one!
If the author gets his wish and Barack HUSSEIN Obama becomes the President, (on the job training for the man!) there better be a sequel by the same critical bunch called, "Goodnight America!"

Reviewer Permalink
"Goodnight Bush" is the epitome of parody, but the object of its ridicule is not the beloved children's book whose appearance it mimics so successfully. With humor and painful accuracy, the authors point out the horrors of the Bush presidency using the soothing cadences and simple rhymes of the classic bedtime story, replacing the bunny in the great green room with George Bush dressed in the famous flight suit he wore when declaring "Mission Accomplished" after the invasion of Iraq, and replacing the "quiet old lady whispering 'hush'" with a wizened Dick Cheney in the rocking chair. This book makes an excellent gift for anyone with a well-developed sense of irony who has suffered through the past 8 years and still hopes for change.

Reviewer Permalink
This book clearly appears to be a copyright violation and there is some chance amazon could be contributorily liable. For a book to be a parody and a fair use under the Copyright Act the "work" must be a parody of the underlying work. A book making fun of Goodnight Moon would fit this description.A book using elements so Goodnight Moon but making fun of something else entirely is not a parody. No amount of claiming it is a parody makes it one and no amount if saying it is unrelated to the original will excuse the infringement if one exists.

Reviewer Permalink
Okay, so your politics probably need to lean in this direction for you to be able to appreciate this one. Having said that, this book is a very clever poignant critique of the last seven years. What really impressed me is how well done it was. I actually purchased the original Goodnight Moon as well and read (looked at) them side by side. Much like Goodnight Moon, the subtle embedding of images within images is impressive. It's one where you keep finding new things the longer you look at each panel. That's pretty much where the similarity with the original ends though.

I will mention, as the authors and most of the other reviewers have, that unlike Goodnight Moon, this is not a children's book. It is a harsh political criticism, complete with the WTC, hurricane Katrine, torture and a lawyer hunting vice president.

I guess my take home message is that if you are not viscerally disgusted with the last seven years, you probably don't need or want to read this one. But if you are, this is clever and well done--if disturbing.

I adore the little children's book Goodnight Moon, 60th Anniversary Edition, read it every night aloud to my daughter, and now I am an equally big fan of this one. My friend called me over to read it in the bookstore and we were guffawing so loudly we caused a disturbance. The clerks didn't mind though; they were used to it.
Warning, parents, don't let your innocent little ones accidentally get a crack at it, at least not the graphic page for prison abuses. I should think it is appropriate for teens, however, who will get the morbid, mordant humor as the spoonful of sugar for the world into which they must come of age. The illustration for "good night Cheney, whispering hush" is LOL. Let us all pray that is a farewell to an era.

The original book was her first one, a gift, for my daughter and we grew weary reading it over and over and 'finding' the hidden changes as we turned the pages engaged in the sing song lyrics. We gifted her with this parady, now a college student and we all were enthused with the depiction of the Bush years in the original style of the book. True to her youthful enthusiasm, she couldn't wait to get back to school and share it with her friends. A very interesting read!

These days, the die-hard Bush dead-enders' number has dwindled to an insignificant minority. It is not just safe but in fact profitable to speak the truth.

Although this book comes a little late to the Bush-bashing party, it is reasonably well done and I do enjoy spending two minutes flipping through it. The issues it touches are both broad and serious, however. I don't think my six-year-old son will get them. This is strictly for adults.

I love this book. It is filled with truth. It is funny, it is dark, and it is very scary. It is also filled with truth. How anyone can find this offensive obviously doesn't grasp the truth of what is happening to our country. Yes, Goodnight Moon was, is a wonderul book for our children. Filled with quiet, peacful moments to put our children to bed with hoping they will have beautiful dreams. However, this book is intended for us, the adults of children, to ensure that we see this administration for what it is and in hopes to change our future so that our children can have peacful dreams again. I do wish Goodnight Moon was the reality. It isn't. Unfortunately Goodnight Bush is.

I love this book. Of course it's funny - but it's also timely and trenchant and full of wonderful details that go so deep you can read it a dozen times and still find something new. Each discovery adds to the humor - plus you feel clever for catching the little things. The big surprise for me, though, was how emotionally powerful it was; It kind of sneaks up on you while you're laughing and then stays with you for a long time.

Definitely first on my list for Christmas gifts all around, and for sleep-deprived new parents (bundled with Goodnight Moon, of course).

I found this book to be an extremely amusing parody of the classic that I read to my children hundreds of times. It hews closely to the original in layout, color scheme and other visual elements, as well as in the simple, rhythmic language used. But the contents are so well chosen that by the end, I was laughing for the parodic humor and simultaneously crying for the country that this administration has mistreated so mercilessly. Seeing the Constitution going up in flames in the picture in this book really got me angry over the high crimes and misdemeanors that the book exposes.
As the saying goes, if you aren't angry, then you haven't been paying attention the past 8 years.
All that said, the Bushes and the Cheneys will sleep well tonight and retire to their well-feathered nests, undisturbed by what they've done to the USA. And unfortunately, this charming little book won't change that.

The act of placing the word "parody" in a work's title does not make that work a parody. Although I am no lawyer, it's evident to me that Goodnight Bush easily could suffer the same outcome as a similarly mislabeled volume by the name of "The Cat NOT in the Hat! A Parody by Dr. Juice".

For you gentle readers who aren't familiar with the Copyright Act or its provisions in section 107, bona fide parodies -- those whose purpose is to ridicule a similar work -- are provided protection as fair use under the Act. Don't be fooled; Goodnight Bush isn't about Margaret Wise Brown's beloved classic. It's a satire attacking Bush, his administration, and the state of our culture.

If you like reading or collecting this sort of reading material, I suggest purchasing early. Under U.S. copyright rules, it could vanish from the shelves overnight. Because this book is a satire as opposed to a children's classic, don't expect the smooth, unbroken poetry Ms. Brown wrote so capably six decades ago.

...in a parody of a children's book. The Bush years have definitely been a parody of a presidency. And there has never been a more childish, immature, ridiculous person in the Oval Office.

This is the perfect gift for all the people on your list who have suffered through these last eight years. All the crimes, mistakes, and shenanigans are laid bare in verse and bright (or black and white) pictures. As we put the darkest years since WWII behind us, we can laugh and look to a brighter future.

Conservatives and Bushies won't like this because it finally explains things to them on their level & they see the damage that has been done, the joke the country has become. I'm sending one to Ann Coulter and another to Bill O'Reilly. Let's have a volunteer to make sure Michael Savage and Sean Hannity get one. Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh might understand if we read it to them slowly and explain as we go...

The original children's book on which this was based was the one my daughter learned to read with and is still a treasured book in our house. I was a little leery of how good a parody of this could be, but found it to be a wonderful parody of both the administration and the original book.

I won't give anything away, but the devil to the book is the exquisitely done drawings that are found on each page. Every time I open the book and stare at the pictures I find something new to laugh at. My daughter (who is currently away from home) is panting at the bit to get back and read it. This is a must have for anyone but the less than 25% of the public that still supports the Bush administration.

Let me start by saying that I am no fan of George Bush or Dick Cheney. That being said, I really wanted to like this book- which, when I read about it, seemed to be a clever parody that we don't get to see often enough. (To the reviewer who cited a previous "Goodnight Moon" spoof from 'Mad' magazine...you brought back wonderful childhood memories of my reading "Mad" movie and TV parodies- Thank You!) Some of the pages on this book are very clever...but who can laugh at the image of a toy airplane knocking down two towers of blocks...or jokes about 'contractor beheading'? I have shown the book to several friends and family members who are eagerly awaiting January 20, 2009...and they all returned it to me with the same baffled and kind of sad expression. That's not exactly a strong endorsement. Borrow a copy, or read it in your local booksore, but don't buy this one.

First, it's plain p**spoor taste to base a parody on a lovely classic like Goodnight Moon. Is nothing sacred? Must everything be politicized? I'll be as pleased as anyone to see Bush leave, but that's not the point. Leave classic books alone! Also, I've seen some online adverts for the book, and they are the lowest kind of tacky, flashing ads that only porn purveyors use. Stop it! Stop it! Go away!
