I ordered this book as a gift for a friend at work, who loves Trisha Yearwood, and he also loves to cook. Well .... decided to keep the book for myself, and now I'm just waiting for HIS book to arrive in the mail! Trisha's style of cooking is much like the cooking that I grew up on in Georgia, and alot of her recipes are nearly the same as mine -- but I am enjoying the variations, as well as the new recipes I have never tried before. The Pecan Pie Muffins are to die for!! Be sure to try those !!! And, yesterday, my husband and I picked blackberries and I tried the Blackberry Cobbler recipe - it was a bit different than my own recipe, and we truly enjoyed it! If you like Southern cooking, you can't go wrong with this cookbook. Trisha tells little stories about some of the recipes also, and the entire book is fun to read. HIGH recommendations!

The recipes are tasty and so easy to follow. The personal stories are a nice touch. It is nice to get to see a positive side of a celebrity, instead of all the negative things you see in the media.

My mother was not a great cook. I have never really learned but by myself. My husband bought me a RR cookbook which I thought would be easy but was not so! I love this book. The first week I made four (4) recipes out of this cookbook (that is a record for me in one week). And they all turned out great. My kids loved the Chicken Broccoli Casserole, the "Kyle Leomon Pound Cake" (my 21 year old son almost ate the whole cake).. I made the "Trisha Homemade Chicken Salad" (again, gone in like 3 days)... I made the cooked the "Roast Beef with Gravy" (came out perfect, even tho I was about 1/2 hour late taking it out. I have four kids (and one 21 year old with a girlfriend) I cook alot. She really means it when she says the ingredients are easy to find in the grocery store. The other cookbook I called for expensive cheeses (like perconico reggionno or whatever)... this is a great econominical cookbook. I have never ever written a review for a cookbook, I am so happy with this one. This weekend I am going to try two more recipes ... I love this cookbook. I have purchased so many in the past that have really disappointed me.. this is right on the mark. And I really love the stories with the recipes.. they are fun to read and very insightful. I wish I was in this family.. I cannot wait if Trisha and her sisters publish another book, I would immediately buy it. I will get thru all the recipes in this book soon, like I said, so far, it is easy and every thing has turned out great (I plan on trying her rib and cole slaw recipe next week on the 4th of July).. Thank you so much Trish Yearwood for sharing your cherished recipes with all of us.

This girl knows her way around the kitchen thanks to her Mama who taught her well. All her recipes are tried and trues...try Kyle's Lemon Pound Cake which is irristable and the Barbequed Pork Ribs, they fall off the bone practically! Another great southern cookbook! Filled with colorful pictures of delicious food and family...

This cookbook is fabulous! So many of the recipes remind me of what my country grandmother used to make. I have already made over 20 recipes from this book and have liked all but one! I read it cover to cover like it was a chapter book and I had never done that with a cookbook before. Trisha makes you feel like she's writing notes just to you. I ended up buying two more copies to give as gifts. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I happened to get a chance to read this book before I purchased it and could hardly wait to get the book on order. Not only are the recipes quick and basic, they were peppered with a somewhat homespun wisdom that is seldom seen in this field. "Ms. Yearwood" goes about the business of writing a cookbook with the same directness and passion that she interjects into her music. Yes, as some would say, these are not new or exotic recipes but they're standards and many are probably thankful to "Ms. Yearwood" for making them once more available.

GEORGIA COOKING IN AN OKLAHOMA KITCHEN: RECIPES FROM MY FAMILY TO YOURS is an outstanding blend of Southern traditional dishes with a modern flair. From Uncle Wilson's Baked Onions made with sweet Vidalia onions and bacon to simple meat loaf and collard greens, dishes tend towards simplicity and ease and many full-page color photos are displayed throughout. As an added attraction, Yearwood's childhood memories are paired with the dishes, making this a top pick for general interest libraries including both Southern cooking and country music titles in their collections.

I collect cookbooks and this is my Favorite. It has great recipes and you don't have to go buy a lot of weird ingredients that you only use once or twice. It has got recipes that you wish you would have gotten from your grandmother. I highly recommend this cookbook.

This is one of my favorite cookbooks, which is saying quite a lot, since I have over 200! The recipes are some you might remember from your mom or grandma, but with a little southern tweak to them....very tasty. The ingredients aren't hard-to-find ingredients....just things you might already have in stock. The stories written with the recipes are so interesting. They give you a little peak into the celebrity, letting you know she's just a down-home girl. Love this book!

As an Oklahoman and a Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood fan, I was very interested in this book. I was not disappointed! My kitchen is undergoing a total make-over, so I am not currently doing much cooking. As soon as my kitchen is complete, I plan on trying most of the recipes. If you like good 'ole southern cookin' you will love this book. And the pictures are great!

I found the recipes to be easy to use, and very informative. Great ideas for the deviled eggs that I had never heard of. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cooking and the simplicity of use.

This is a fantastic cookbook for anyone who grew up in the South, wanted to grow up in the South or just loves to eat Southern food. It is FULL of good recipes that you have eaten for years, recipes you meant to get from your Grandmother and never did, and recipes you just plain love! They are designed for families, large groups or just a few. Enjoy, it is well worth the money.

I am not familiar with her music. But this is one of the best cook books I have ever read. I can already tell I will be making 80% of the dishes. The recipes are so easy each one is going to taste great.

I love this book. So many of the recipes bring back memories of my grandmother. The recipes are easy to follow and the pictures are wonderful. The stories make each recipe seem so special. You can't help thinking that you are a part of Trisha's family now that you have her family recipes. I recommend this book to everyone who love down home country comfort food.

This has very good, easy recipes for the southern cook. You may not like it if this type of food is not your favorite. Personally, I think it is a good book, well thought out and designed.

I grew up in the south and loved my grandmother's cooking. My mother was not a "southern" cook so I never knew the recipes. Finally, I know them! From the first bite of the baked beans and the broccoli salad, my taste buds knew they'd found home. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now I have Alabama cooking in my northern Virginia home!

This cookbook is amazing. Everything tastes wonderful and is easy to make and adjust to add or take away for your own preference. The pineapple upside down cake was the best I have ever made. The chicken broccoli casserole is awesome, will be buying more copies for family!!!

I thought this was overall a pretty good cookbook. Most of the recipes were simple and down-to-earth. Being a Georgia girl myself, I could
relate to this type of food. I also enjoyed all the pictures. This is a cookbook worth taking a chance on! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-18 00:33:53 EST)

My wife has five fancy cookbooks, yet all of them combined don't have half the useful recipes as this one. There is probably a hundred recipes, and all of them you can make from staple products, standard spices, and all can be prepared rather quickly. This book is perfect for a newly wed, a college student, or someone who is just learning to cook. It will be something that he/she can refer to for the rest of their life.
Good luck, Kevin (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-18 00:33:53 EST)

I am a music fan...but most of my music is NOT country. I don't own any of her CD's and have none of her music on my IPOD. BUT...If she continues to put out recipe books...I want to own EVERY ONE OF HER RECIPES. I am from South Georgia. I am old enough to be Trisha's mother. But she can cook circles around me. And some of her hints and especially her recipes my mom did not pass on to me. So please...continue this. I can't wait for the next book.

This is a wonderful book! Chock full of delicious recipes and lots of beautiful photographs, this book is a perfect go-to cookbook for southern cooking. It has a welcoming feel, easy to understand recipes, and lots of notes and tidbits from Trisha, Gwen, and Beth (her co-writer mother and sister) alongside family photos and mouth-watering recipe photographs. The book is broken down into the following sections: Snacks and Appetizers; Soups and Salads; Beef and Pork; Poultry, Fish and Pasta; Sides; Quick Breads and Muffins; Cakes, Pies, and Puddings; and Cookies, Candy, and Ice Cream. If you love down-home southern cooking then this book is definitely for you.

I was raised in Georgia, but left in young adulthood, so most of these foods are familiar to me. I never learned the technique for getting the same flavor or texture of these dishes since my Mom wasn't southern, so I am thrilled to have this book filled with recipes of real food that I had at school, friends' homes, and dining in southern restaurants. I've already tried 3 of her recipes, her fried chicken tasted just as I remember it, who knew to soak it in brine first...
I can't wait for her/their next cookbook! I enjoy all types of food, cooked many different ways, if it is tasty, and appealing, I'm no food snob. :) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-30 00:51:50 EST)

I've been a fan of Trisha's for years (my husband even likes her music and he doesn't care for country music!), so this was a "must have" for me. I've collected lots of cookbooks over the years, but find myself returning to the same type over & over again. I'm sure this one will be one of those books. I've already made the brownies, which were excellent, and the Chicken Pie. Trisha stated that it was "pure comfort food" and the picture looked like a dish I used to order at a restaurant years ago at a restaurant back home in southern Ohio. It didn't disappoint! It was yummy and did taste a bit like the dish I remembered! Thanks for doing a book for people like me.....the ones who don't like complicated recipes, just good food!

I have been a Trisha Yearwood fan since "She's in Love with the Boy". So, obviously, it was a no-brainer purchasing this wonderful and beautiful cookbook. I am no cook by any means, in fact, I'm not real crazy about cooking... until this book. I've already made 4 recipes. If you love Southern food, the South, or anything remotely country - you'll love to try some of these delicious recipes. Family photos and food pictures throughout - all in color - will be an additional enjoyment.

First, I want to start off by saying I am not a country music fan, so I don't have the "bias" that one of the followers of her music career might have. This book is fine, if you can accept it for what it is: a simple, down-home, unpretentious, country cookbook that utilizes the "semi-homeade" concept. It's not good for people looking for haute cuisine, exotic or spicy dishes, or fancy, elaborte dishes. It IS good for people who may be less experienced in the kitchen or for more experienced cooks who are too harried to go the whole nine yards on busy weeknights and need a break from more labor intensive books. Recipes are simple, unexotic, and sometimes semi-homeade (for example, she recommends using Bisquick mix in a recipe instead of instructing you to make your own biscuit dough for it). If this sounds like the kind of book you're looking for (and ONLY if this sounds like the kind of book you're looking for), this will do the job as a decent down-home weekday cookbook.
