...but it just doesn't have that "Luftwaffe Classic" feel to it.
"Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor: The Airliner that went to War" by Juan-Carlos Salgado is a translation of the author's Spanish language monograph. As such it doesn't quite successfully fit into the established "Luftwaffe Classic" series (of which it is #16). The emphasis is on service history (both civil and military). The aircraft itself gets relatively short shrift although the appendices do help somewhat in this regard. A more complete discussion of the various Fw 200 sub types and equipment would have been very welcome. But taken on its own terms the book delivers considerable value. The translation is quite good; one would think it was written by a native English speaker if not told otherwise. The photographs are plentiful and outstanding. The aforementioned appendices are quite useful. There are numerous color profiles; one suspects that these were added to the Spanish edition. Summing up: A recommended addition to the Fw 200 story in English. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-08-03 01:53:54 EST)
