I have already made three recipes from this book and the mac and cheese twice. The recipes are so easy and full of flavor. Perfect for the diabetic that is too busy to cook when they get home.

My husband, though very active and a healthy weight, was diagnosed with type II diabetes about 5 years ago. This cookbook has been a Godsend for me. He has a sweet tooth and is also sort of a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy. This cookbook is full of delicious recipes that satisfy his appetites, the recipes are easy to fix and best of all, the ingredients are readily available no matter where you live.
I also love the spiral binding that allows the book to lay flat.
Even if you're not a diabetic but just want to watch your carb/sugar intake or are looking for a more healthy way to eat then this is a wonderful addition to your cookbook library. I use mine at least once a week.

I gave this to my Mom as a gift and she just loves it. She said the recipes are great and she doesn't feel like she's on a diabetic diet when she uses the recipes in this cookbook. My Mom is new to crockpot cooking and she absolutely loves this cookbook.

I looked thru this cookbook before I gave it to her and I copied down numerous recipes. They all tasted great.

I learned the hard way to check out cookbooks from the library to try before buying them. I've renewed this one so often, I have to buy it! Many diabetic cookbooks are filled with recipes that, while quite nutritious, have "cuisine" ingredients that are beyond the food budgets of many families. This cookbook is a good mix of recipes, not outrageously expensive to prepare. Even the children will eat this food without crying. I agree with another reviewer that it would help to have serving sizes delineated. Otherwise, I have already recommended this cookbook to diabetic relatives and friends.

I bought this book for a friend who is a diabetic controlling her diabetes by diet until she fractured her leg. This now meant she could not stand to make healthy meals and her sugar numbers were in jeopardy of going up due to inactivity. Her husband had no idea how to make quick easy meals that would be good for her and safe for her diabetes. This book was a godsend to her husband to have easy recipes that can cook while he is at work and ensure that she remains well during the recovery process. I would highly recommend this book.

I haven't yet tried any of the recipes, but I look forward to doing so. There are so many I want to try...family friendly recipes which will be so great for our weekly family nights. I love the convenience of the slow cooker, but as a diabetic with a heart problem, I was looking for a cookbook which would enable me to feed the family but still be safe for me. I've found it! No one will even suspect that they are eating "my kind of food."

This book has varied recipes but to call it a diabetic cookbook is misleading. The majority of recipes would not pass muster for low GI meals within a diabetic's range. Perhaps it is a cookbook for people who are diabetic to cook for those who are not!

As my diabetes has become a serious health issue, I came to the conclusion that what I needed were some simple, easy to fix, recipes that would fit my schedule and my budget. This book answers to all my needs. I was so impressed with the concise and clear instructions that I found I had every size slow cooker except the most popular, the 4 quart. Since I had been admiring a red one in our local all purpose department store, I was able to get it and complete the sizes to make the recipes for the intended size. That is one thing I really liked about this book; it said what size slow cooker to use for optimum prep time. It also explained why certain foods were good, even though high in carbs. Great investment!

I did not realize when I purchased this book, after a diagnosis of diabetes, that the recipes were the same as many that were in the original 'Slow Cooker Cookbook'. Had I known that, I would not have needed this one, as I know and use the other and have sent it for gifts. If one is unacquainted with the series, this is a good book.

(Hide Review...)  Incomplete Nutritional Information
Reviewer Permalink
The authors have the nutritional values calculated for as many as 20 servings yet fail to provide the serving sizes. They have to figure out the size of a serving to calculate the information, so why not include that with the recipe so we, who must count our carbohydrates for insulin purposes for example, don't have to dirty dishes to dish out the entire crock pot. There are authors out there who care enough about their readers to provide this information.

Counting carbohydrates and working through food exchanges in order to deal with diabetes can be a time consuming activity, especially for the busy working person. This book contains slow-cooker recipes complete with exchange list values, and information on fat, calories, cholesterol, fiber, sugars, protein, and just about anything else you would want to know in order to prepare a nutritious meal that takes minimal time out of your busy schedule. Casseroles, steak, stews, vegetables, chicken, potatoes, wings, barbecue, soups, chowders, desserts, snacks, and beverages are all well represented with an excellent selection of each as well as many more items. One thing is for sure, these recipes don't sacrifice flavor in any way. The recipes include recipes like Chicken in Mushroom Gravy, Lemon-Garlic Chicken, Potatoes O'Brien, Apple Crisp, and Carrot Cake. Fix-It and Forget-It Diabetic Cookbook is an excellent cookbook not only for diabetics but for slow cooker fans of all types.
