At Wus Healing Center in San Francisco, miracles are happening. Women and their partners come to the clinicoften from across the countryto fulfill a passionately held dream: to conceive and deliver the healthy baby that mainstream doctors have told them they cannot have. Using traditional Chinese medical techniques, sometimes integrated with Western fertility treatments, Dr. Angela Wu is helping these couples experience the miracle of birth. In this book, Dr. Wu details a proven six-part self-care regimen that helps create the internal harmony and balance vital to conception. Her techniques not only enhance the results and reduce the side effects of in vitro and other Western fertility treatments; they also shorten labor and speed postpartum recovery. Babies benefit too, adopting regular sleep patterns more quickly and getting sick less frequently. At a time when one in five U.S. couples is struggling with fertility problems, this practical and uplifting volume, filled with the inspirational stories of Dr. Wus grateful patients, will be a godsend.

I liked how specific this one was and how it covered a lot of sub-topics on the subject. Good food suggestions and no bones about it. I appreciated that.

I am a long time student of CAM, and I have received acupuncture and herbal therapy for many years from a variety of practitioners. I appreciate the task that Dr. Wu has taken on in describing fertility dos and don'ts as relate to TCM. The book is designed as a guide for couples hoping to conceive. Dr. Wu illustrates many points through stories about her patients and experiences as a doctor of TCM. I found this book to be very good in that it covers a variety of issues including dietary considerations for families hoping to conceive. However, it is not a strong reference book on TCM. For those most interested in the application rather than the practice and theory of TCM that will be viewed as a strength of this book. I personally was interested in diving a little deeper into the theory and treatments, and would have preferred more insight in that regard. This book is highly suited for any beginner especially those receiving fertility treatments and acupuncture.

I got this book (from the library) thinking that it would compliment The Fertility Cure by Randine Lewis and was very disappointed by the new agey yet preachy tone.
It does have some good information and lists the common sense things that women (and men) suffering from infertility should do: 1) Eat better 2) Relax (no, not relax and you'll get pregnant, but relax because we live in a stressful world even if we think we're not stressed). Perhaps it would be better said by saying "slow down" rather than "relax" 3) Be educated about your treatment options. But overall I found that the tone of the book prevented me from getting the information I wanted from it. Also, the "success" stories all seem a little too perfect. I'm sure that these things happened but aren't some of these really just about getting the golden egg at the right time? Any success stories about unblocking distal end blocked, damaged tubes or actually reducing the size of fibroids? The story about Michael and Melissa is especially odd. Eggs take about three months to mature but the second time around Melissa only did the "program" for two months. So the egg that produced her pregnancy had pretty much nothing to do with the program she was doing. At most, she perhaps cleaned her body out and that helped her be healthier, but it didn't affect the quality of her eggs. She was just lucky...and young. I use acupuncture and herbals and believe that they compliment Western fertility practices. I often feel great when I leave and the effects often stay with me throughout the day. But I also believe that both Western & Eastern medicine are just shooting in the dark half the time when it comes to fertility treatments. Eastern medicine has been around a lot longer and has a lot of street cred, but it doesn't mean that everything about it is valid. And finally, there's no real admission that some women or couples will just not be able to get pregnant. The book instead asks, "Are your Three Treasures - head, heart, and gut - truly in alignment?" I get what she's going for here, but really, some couples will not be able to get pregnant and that isn't talked about at all. So overall, if you can stomach the tone and demanding protocol there are things you could glean from this book. Otherwise, keep looking. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-05-17 04:21:41 EST)

Fertility Wisdom: How Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Help Overcome Infertility by Dr Angela C. Wu is a great introduction to how traditional Chinese Medicine can be used to help enhance fertility. Fertility Wisdom emphasizes the parts of TCM you can do on your own to increase your fertility and has one of the best explanations I've found on how to use foods as a part of TCM. I interviewed Dr. Wu on the Jan. 7, 2009 Creating a Family show and was impressed by her down to earth and practical approach to TCM. She believes in working with Western infertility treatment and explained how TCM could help increase the effectiveness of western medicine. [...]

After struggling with secondary infertility for 1 year, I had given up on conventional medicine and turned to TCM. I read this book (as well as some others) and immediately made an appointment with a local accupuncturist. After 3 months of accupuncture, modifying my diet and taking chinese herbs, I was pregnant. Baby #2 was born healthy just 6 weeks ago and he will always by my "accu baby". Buy the book - trust your body and give Traditional Chinese Medicine a chance to work for you!

I have gone thru 3 failed IVF and 8 inseminations and speant over 60K. Heartache beyond compare! polluted my body with Chemicals! Had a miscarriage. Went into labor. Had a C-section. and the clincher no baby to show for all the abuse I put my body thru...Shall I go on. All for the sake of western medicine and if I had read this book 1st.Please give this a try you will be armed with invaluable information. Like any business go with someone who is highly recomended call your local accupuncture school, find someone who specializes in infertility. Educate yourself with what truly is going on with your body before you spend your heart& soul. there was no reason for me to not get pregnant, all my results were great FSH 5.5 cycle 27-28 days 14 day luteal phase great lining great hormone levels...at 40 pretty proud of my body, but after I used two different donors and didn't get pregnant with an 80-90% success rate. I new there was something else wrong and that wrong was found in eastern medicine...now we are working to resolve the issue and hopefully....I PRAY

Not sure how much this book had to do with my recent positive pregnancy test but we have been trying for 1.5 years to conceive. Before going through costly fertility treatments I decided to try this and an expensive electronic ovulation predictor. That also had something to do with getting pregnant since I found I ovulate on day 9- never thought to try so early!
I did not go to an acupuncturist but I did meditate, do some of the mindfulness exercises and I followed the diet closely- no wheat, no dairy, no sweets- sounds hard but after a couple of weeks I had it down- also, no ice, no ice cream, etc.. The other results of this diet were fewer migraines (I have suffered for years) and all the bloating around my middle and in my face went away after about 3 weeks- that was pretty amazing and made me want to continue the diet. I now wonder if maybe I have a wheat allergy because I have given up sweets and dairy in the past and didn't have those results. What the author says about making room for a baby really resonated with me- my husband and I had some good discussions based on what the list of questions in the book. After reading the book, I decided to slow down my busy life and make room for the baby. I have spent much more time on me and have made a concerted effort to do things more slowly and not rush everywhere. I can't help but think that it helped me get pregnant and I am going to continue the fertility wisdom for the rest of my pregnancy and maybe the diet for the rest of my life ! I was a little annoyed that the book had some typos- like maybe they rushed it to publication butI certainly hope they write a follow-up or a cookbook. Also, the authors didn't say much about soy and I have used it in many iterations to replace some of the wheat and dairy I used to have in my diet and was always wondering if that was a good substitute. If you do decide to do this, buy The Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook by Cybele Pascal. There are many 'fertility friendly' recipes in the book since she doesn't use wheat, dairy or sugar. This book really got to the heart of disease - diet, lifestyle, exercise and stress management. These aspects of life must be paid attention to if one expects to have a child. If not managed now, how will our current habits affect our child to be? The author provides clear instruction, easy recipes and detailed instructions for the exercises. I just have to wonder how successful following the diet and lifestyle changes can be without acupuncture and herbs, or is that a critical component to success?

This is an amazing book. Well written and a pleasure to read. Covers all of the things that I did to give birth to a gorgeous, perfect child 1 year after being told by Western fertility experts that this could never happen. I LOVE this book. Buy it, go for it ( find an acupuncturist, change your diet, follow the mind-body exercises ) and make sure to pass on the info.

I've purchased and read a large number of infertilty books (over 25): some good, some useless, and some which offer unique enough information to become a part of my small collection. The rest I give away. This one is a real keeper. Good Chinese medicine diet tips (different from western diet tips) plus exercises, abdominal massage tips, success stories, acupuncture benefits, etc. Highy recommended!

This book is a must-read for anyone planning to become pregnant, whether you've had fertility complications or not. In helping readers understand how to better prepare ourselves (in body, mind, and spirit) to "attract new life," Dr. Wu succeeds in putting us on the path to good physical health in general. Almost everything you learn in this book - for men and women alike - is applicable to life after babies as well! You'll discover the benefits of eating a diet (recipes included) influenced by Traditional Chinese Medicine. You'll get meaningful tips on how to harmonize your environment by clearing clutter. You'll learn exercises and acupressure techniques - all of these specifically to encourage vitality and fertility.
Reading this book was pure pleasure. While her self-references are always strikingly humble, it's clear from the authoritative tone and ample real-life case examples that this author is an expert in her field. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-06-24 00:34:26 EST)
