This is a wonderful book, full of practical steps to have networking work for you from the inside out.
Somewhere in the mid 1980's we stopped really working relationship based networking, and we started working , as Bob Burg so delightfully puts it in this book, credit based networking. A kind of..."If you give me a referral I'll give you one", or "you owe me from before".
And anyone who has tried that approach knows...it goes completely south after that. Well, Mr Burg's book is full of practical tips and how to's in allowing people to know you, like you and trust you. The three big keys in building successful business relationships.
I am a Regional Director for Leads Club, a referral based networking group that supports small businesses in building relationship based referrals. I completely support what Mr Burg says and have requested each member buy this book.

This is not your typical business networking book. I found that although I call what I am doing "Networking" I wasn't getting results. After applying the items I learned in just the first 6 chapters, I have gone from 2-3 referrals to 8-10 in only the past 4 weeks. I am more than doubling my business and packed with ways to continue this momentum. I would recommend this for anyone who sells a product or offers a service. For an $11 investment, you learn more than a $300 Networking Seminar.

(Hide Review...)  One of the best books on how to network correctly
Reviewer Permalink
If you read one book on networking, this is the one to read. Burg's system focuses on how to network correctly, thus enabling you to build a pipeline of qualified, A-list prospects for your business. This book is a must-buy for anyone striving to build business referrals that will continue the gift of giving in the long haul. The questions Burg outlines in Chapter two are a key component of how one should begin to network from this day forward. In addition, he shares the one question that will change your networking process forever. It's a question so few know to ask. And if you use this question at your next networking event, you will immediately establish yourself as an expert who knows how to deliver value to your prospects and your customers -- and to the networking process itself. This book is extremely thorough in outlining a proven system for networking anywhere any time. Most important, Burg shows you how to enjoy the process. This book is a seminal part of my professional library. I use it daily as a reference to build my business.

If you're looking to sharpen up your sales skills or expanding your contact base, this is a great resource and offers a ton of tips that can be easily implemented. It's more than just a networking book, although that's one of the main components, it's about getting to know people, forming relationships by genuinely caring about people. Everything in life is based on forming and building relationships and the people that have figured out how to get along with people, are usually more successful and just plain happier people. It doesn't matter what you sell or what company you represent, ultimately, you are the product. If you're wondering how to meet more people, get more leads, earn more business ... you'll learn these and more in this book.

A recent editorial in Fast Company Magazine complained about the lack of meaningful and actionable content in many best-selling business and professional development books. The editorial talked about books that, quite simply, fail to deliver on their promise because they are all theory, no detail.

Luckily, some best-selling business books do sell a lot of copies, such as Bob Burg's Endless Referrals that has sold more than 150,000 copies.

And, deservedly so. Not only does Endless Referrals point out the numerous different options available for building referrals, but it describes specific, actionable steps that you can take to implementing a desired strategy.

By being willing to "dirty his hands" with specific details, Bob Burg provides the missing link between good intentions and taking action in a positive direction every day. A great book, extensively underlined when I finished reading it.

Bob Burg's book is one of the best on how to get simple yet effective systems in place. With-in a couple of months the results will start trickling in. Then with-in a year this by-word-of-mouth Tsunami hits with a force that you won't believe. Be careful what you ask for. If you want a flow of constant quality referrals this is THE book you should buy.

This book has a lot of immediately actionable ideas that has helped many of them out. Unlike a lot of books, you can visualize how to do it, even if you are not a 'natural salesperson'. If you work in a sales business (e.g., insurance, mortgage brokerage, real estate brokerage), I'm sure you'll be glad that you invested a few hours with this easy-to-read book.

Bob Burg one of the mentors whose advice I really respect and admire. This Endless Referrals book is a must read book for an individual who wants to expand their network or someone who wants to expand his/her business.

Bob Burg is a real and genuine person who really teaches what he really practices in his life. He is really interested in helping other people to become more successful.

I personally love the audio CDs version, since I travel a lot, so I just play the Audio series in my car.

Bob will teach you the right way on how to meet and network with other people in a business gathering or chamber of commerce business meetings and benefit from the meetings.

He will also teach you on how to ask the feel good questions so you can build a rapport with a stranger. After you learned these techniques, you will feel a lot of confident in meeting strangers and be comfortable talking to them. It is an amazing way to meet new friends and business referrals, because most people will only do business with someone whom they know and like. Bob said "if you want to expand your network of relationship, we must start to be interested in other people."

He will also teach you how to develop your active listening skill. Also one of the things I love about most of Bob's programs is, Bob always refers me to other books, CDs and resources where I can learn more beyond of what he teaches on his books or CDS.

He emphasizes the importance of being a giver instead of a taker. He teaches the importance of giving and discuss the different types of givers.

Bob Burg really has helped and coached me to become a better communicator , so I can be where I am today right now and if you have money to invest on his programs, this book or audio will be the best investment you will ever make for your mind.

(Hide Review...)  Encouraging guide to generating referrals
Reviewer Permalink
People think they're networking when they hand out a business card and slap a new acquaintance on the back. However, true networking is all about getting people to "know, like and trust" you. After all, says Bob Burg, this is why people will buy from you. How do you become one of these esteemed people? By encouraging people to talk about themselves. By being the first one to do the referring in a relationship. And, by using Burg's easy-to-apply strategies for attracting and qualifying prospects, getting first appointments and following through. Burg constantly reminds us that if you help others selflessly, you will reap the benefits. In fact, he argues many of his points long after you are nodding your head in agreement, but the points are usually well worth making. If you want to become a high-powered networker rather than an occasional networker, we recommend this book to you.

Endless Referrals has taught me more than any other book I have read about becoming successful in sales. Often, people rely solely on the power of their presentation alone to achieve sales success. While this is important, to neglect the opportunity to build a network of people who know you, like you, and trust you to foundation your career, you will neglect yourself the opportunity to become more successful that you may ever imagine.

Bob Burg presents this idea in a very practical way, all the while encouraging the reader throughout the experience. I cannot imagine there being any better resource on this topic. Thanks to Bob and his book, I am more excited to dive into my sales career than I ever have been before.

I can remember the last 5 business people that sent me a "thank you / glad to meet you / thanks for the favor" card. Can you? Do you have a habit of sending thank you cards?

If you are not touching the people around you, then you aren't memorable. If you aren't sending thank you notes, then shame on you. An email thank you note is common and UNmemorable. Stop doing that as your only method of thanks or follow up. It's lazy and stinky.

The better way, or the more memorable way, is a hand-written note. A hand written note is SUPER 100 memorable.

I use the Burg format for my thank-you notes. It's the format with the small black and white picture. Has it opened doors for me? You better believe it. Has it helped me grow my business? Yes, it has.

Am I memorable because of my thank you card? Just ask my new clients.

Get the book and do what it says. You will be remembered.

My associate stated in no uncertain terms that if I hadn't read "Endless Referrals" ... I definitely needed to. I bought the book and was really impressed, particularly since it gives such refreshing insight into things that sales people do that don't work! Long story short ... after reading the first few chapters I was already doing a better job of capturing referrals and building meaningful relationships. This is an excellent book that will give you direction and a plan to follow. Finding new clients is a never ending task and one that is not most sales peoples favorite thing to do. This system is the most human I've seen--both for the sales professional and the potential client. Mr Burg is very generous with his advise and also provides several sources of information and services so that you can immediately start to put things in motion and none of it is costly. His system is not only makes sense business wise, it's a genuine way to relate to people. What really impressed me the most is his philosophy. He believes that what goes out must come back. The proof is in the reviews and his own success. Lately there seems to be some sort of new business plan out there that says it's smart to write a book with no real information in it, but just a sales pitch for your seminar. They give you 75% of the system or information, but not the whole thing as advertised. This makes the reader feel had--you've just spent $15 to be pitched to and the book isn't worth the paper it's written on. This is NOT one of those books. Enless Referrals is a stand alone reference that gives you everything you need. After reading it I would go to one of Mr Burg's seminars because I am sure I would come away with something of value. I don't know what those other authors have coming back, but my guess is that it won't be what they want.

What a wonderful book this author has written. It talks about developing interpersonal skills, public speaking skills, prospecting skills, networking etiquette, sales skills, marketing principles, and even customer service. It mentions the power of the Thank You note, and of giving more than you receive. It also devotes a chapter on some things about home-based businesses. And a chapter about the opportunities available through network marketing, and also a chapter on mail order and direct marketing as a business opportunity. I'm not sure the mail order chapter should have been included. Quite frankly, I think the author should have written another book about what he discusses in chapters 12 to 14 instead of including those chapters here. And I think Chapter 15 should have been saved for its own book, and not included in this book either. But who cares! Anybody interested in the main thrust of the book (endless referrals) is going to be interested in chapters 12 to 15 - and they are well written and informative.

What I liked the most about the book was the chapter summaries at the end of each chapter. I did not have to wade through the book the first time through. I just had to read the summaries. The other thing that was really nice about the book was the "recommended reading" sections at the end of chapters 12 through 15 and the one at the end of the book. Those booklists were very thorough and helpful. 5 stars!

Bob Burg wrote the preeminent guide to effective networking years ago, and this most recent version has been updated to help entrepreneurs, professionals and salespeople deal effectively with the new realities of doing business in the age of the Internet.

Regular readers of this newsletter will remember a book I reviewed a few issues ago, Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi. I declared that it was 'the definitive guide to Networking 2.0.' In the same sense, Endless Referrals is the definitive guide to Networking.

Burg goes through how to effectively work a crowd at a typical business event - he uses the example of a Chamber of Commerce's 'Business After 5' events, but the system for working any gathering of people is the same - from what you need to do before the event, to how to follow up with people after the event. Having successfully implemented many of his teachings last week at my local Chamber of Commerce, I can say that the system works.

While I have never had a chance to ask all ten of them, Burg has provided a list of questions you should ask anyone you meet. These are 'feel good questions,' designed to get your new acquaintance talking about themselves and what they do. I mention that I've never been able to ask all 10, because they're the type of questions that people will spend a half hour answering! Here is a sampling of them:

'How did you get started in the Widget business?'
'What do you see as the coming trends in the Widget business'
'What sets you or your company apart from your competition?'

When you ask these questions (rather than answer their polite questions about what you do) people will go on and on. Ask how they get started, and prepare to listen for the next 45 minutes about their undergraduate experience, no matter their age. Who doesn't love to write and direct their life story?

When you ask what sets them apart from their competition, you've given them permission to brag. Who else let's them do that? The positive emotions they feel while recounting their stories to you will be associated with you, since you asked the 'feel good questions.' They will leave the conversation thinking about how charming you were, even though they spoke for most of it. Its not insignificant that you'll also learn from their stories.

Burg also suggests that everyone design personalized note cards, which can be used as thank you cards or for any notes you might send prospects and peers. I designed my own, including my picture and my Enduring Purpose, and I always send them after an event, or whenever I meet a new prospect. I get an unbelievable response, because very few people ever take the time to send a handwritten note.

Endless Referrals was first recommended to me by a Rookie Realtor out in BC who went out to make $140,000 in commissions in his first four months, using the system he learnt in the book (which he is now mentioned in!). It is a must read for anyone who is in the service business, or who depends on referrals and word of mouth advertising for their business. It's also good for anyone looking to build their network or become better at listening to others. Since I know all of our readers fall into one of those broad categories, buy the book and give your business a competitive advantage.

My review is in no way differnt from anyone that has posted a review. There is a reason why the book gets rave reviews. READ AND FIND OUT. In 1 week I went from saying "networking is a waste and does not bring results" to becoming a networking junkie. Yes in 1 week. Once I started reading the book it was like the heavens opened up and granted me a PATH TO SUCCESS!My only disappointment is that the book is so good MORE PEOPLE SHOULD BUY IT, it should have sold 150,000,000 copies. Thanks Mr. Burg **********(10 Stars)

I am brand new to the "network marketing" arena. I have spent my entire adult life working as a Registered Nurse and have just recently switched gears and started up my own business. So, networking is new to me and so completely out of my previous realm. As a nurse, I never needed referrals! People were bound to have babies... whether I asked them to or not!

Mr. Burg's book came highly recommended to me by one of my business colleagues. Am I ever glad I listened to this recommendation! This book is very well written. It is clear, concise, and to the point. Even for a novice networker, like myself, the concepts presented here are easy to follow. It just makes sense that these approaches would work. Bob teaches people how to be non-intrusive, how to play nice in the sand box, and how to get the referrals in a professional manner. This is the thing I love most about this book. Not only does he show you how to network, he is also teaching people how to be true professionals.

Lastly, I have to say that I know for a fact that Bob not only teaches others how to follow these concepts... he actually uses them!!! As I was reading, I had a question about where I could purchase the notecards and scratch pads he talks about. So, I went to his website and was unable to find the information I was looking for. Well, I decided to click on the "contact me" icon and ask my question. Within a few hours, I had a personal response from Bob in my email inbox. I was impressed beyond words that he took the time to personally respond to me AND he did it in a timely manner!!!! To me, that spoke volumes about the man behind the book.

I will definately be recommending this book to others in my organization. I believe this is a must read for anyone that depends on networking to fuel their business!!!!

I just finished my first read of Endless Referrals and it is already having a positive impact on my business. Bob's advice is solid, easy to understand, and easy to implement.

Before I finished reading this book, I ordered my thank you note cards. The response to these cards has been incredible. I've sent them to people I meet and have gotten positive feedback from several people. One person told me that I must be special because nobody takes the time to write a note. I also send them to people I already know as appropriate just to say thank you - be it for lunch or advice.

I'm now reading Endless Referrals for the second time, this time with a highlighter at hand. In fact, I'm probably going to buy a second copy - one for the office and one for home. I plan on continuing to implement Bob's ideas.

I've contacted Bob directly and have gotten very helpful feedback from him. I look forward to learning more from Bob in the future.

After interviewing Bob for our podcast, TALES FROM THE NETWORKING COMMUNITY (www.thenetworkingcommunity.com), within two minutes of opening the book to the middle section, I found an idea about adding a freebie offer to my signature block in emails that made incredible sense. Marketing is an art, not a science, and Bob's captured the art of things to build business through referrals. I hate making cold calls, but I love it when people call me ready to buy my services. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

If you are looking for the other side of your referral rainbow and an abundant "pot of gold" of referrals, look no further. It's all in Bob Burg's book; "Endless Referrals!"

Bob has been a featured guest on TNC's radio show, and I have experienced his knowledge first hand, through reading his book, "Endless Referrals", educational teleseminars and his weekly video updates.

He "walks the talk." Great guy, and a great networking book that I highly recommend.

I am so glad I discovered this book! The timing was perfect. I recently joined a network marketing company and have been struggling in the "cold market". If not for this book, I would still be chasing people away instead of creating a network of mutually beneficial, win-win relationships.

In his book, Bob Burg has actually outlined a simple step-by-step system for getting referrals and getting people to know, like, and trust you in a simple, duplicatable way. Networking is fun this way. Thanks Bob!

I've read Harvey Mackay's "Dig your Well Before You're Thirsty" and Bob Burg's "Endless Referrals". While Harvey does an excellent job of providing the philosophy behind networking, Bob has driven home the entire concept by providing the nuts and bolts "how to" that you need to actually get it done.

Awesome book! This is a gotta have for business owners and professionals second only to air and water!

Yeah, I know, "new and improved" is just an advertising slogan, but the 3rd edition of this book is worth getting, even if you read the 2nd edition. This book covers the topic of getting referrals so well, you do not need another book. Trust me, I have four other books on referrals. This one tells you how, all you have to add is the activity.
