A must read along with THE LAST PHARAOH. In that book Aladdin Elaasar sheds the light on America's allies who became out of control like Mubarak of Egypt. Egypt is the next powder Keg!
The Last Pharaoh: Mubarak and the Uncertain Future of Egypt in the Obama Age THE LAST PHARAOH is written by Egyptian/American award-winning author and lecturer Aladdin Elaasar, who was nominated as a candidate for the presidential elections in Egypt in 2005. THE LAST PHARAOH is also the title of a forthcoming Hollywood mega action movie starring Will Smith to be released early 2010. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-09-29 06:58:12 EST)

It was brief and not much in depth. Easy to understand. It is probably all I needed since my stay will be only for 3 days.

Outstanding guide! If you follow this simple and easy to read affordable book, you will get a great reception everywhere in Egypt whatever you are a man or a woman. It is a beautiful country so worth of visiting. People there are open and friendly. Following their traditions for duration of your visit, although not necessary, is a small gesture of respect they very much appreciate. This book will give you an insight on traditions and culture.

This is a great book, a great guide. We need to understand Egypt the Middle East more thoroughly. I lived in the Mideast and I can relate to what he is saying. The Mideast is so mystical in our Western eyes. The partnership with the USA literally let the dictators there do as they please. It's been a honeymoon for too long: Time for change and accountability. We need to understand the Middle East more thoroughly. In this global village and economy we do not live in an island anymore.
As a school teacher, I searched for information on Egypt, Arab World, Middle East and Islam for my students. In light of American media bias and the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, my intent as a teacher of ancient cultures has been to illustrate the shared history, cultures, personalities, and beliefs of the three great monotheistic religions. Prior to 9/11, there were no books written for general public consumption or as student resources. There were erudite PhD treatises available online, but nothing that could be used in a classroom. Following 9/11, many books were written in an attempt to explain Islam and Muslims to the Western world. Again, I found many of the texts to be either dry historical overviews or agenda-ridden commentaries on faith. "Egypt is the next domino to fall and, as they say, so goes Egypt so goes the Middle East, says Robert Baer, former Middle East-based CIA operative, author of See No Evil and Sleeping with the Devil. One book that I recommend for better understanding of Egypt and the Middle East is THE LAST PHARAOH by Professor Aladdin Elaasar. It demystifies Egypt's Ancient and Modern history and makes a lot of sense of the Mideast. A great combination. I picked this book up before our move to Egypt and it has now been 2 years since we moved to Egypt. I still reference it at times when I need to find a quick answer to a question on appropriate etiquette.
Whether you are a first time visitor, a short term tourist or planning to move to Egypt, this book is invaluable because its accuracy and insight is bang on. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-09-24 16:00:42 EST)

This has everything worth knowing about the Egyptians and Egypt. It's very good if you want to come closer to their culture, or if you want to travel there.

This was a wonderful book to read in preparation for our trip to Egypt. I highly recommend it if you are not familiar with the culture of Egypt and/or how it is different from other Arabic nations.

This is not a guide book - it's not about places, good restaurants and value hotels.
This is about the people of Egypt, their history, their culture and how they think. As such, it is a much more interesting read than any guide book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-01-24 15:18:37 EST)

The little book presents an excellent overview of a country with a complicated history. It covers succinctly the highlights of Egyptian history from the earliest time through to the present in so few pages that you end up with a real understanding of the progression of time. It then covers current social, economic, and political life. It gives excellent advice on what every tourist should know but even if you aren't going to Egypt this would be an interesting read. I can't imagine not reading this before going. It is not a guide book and is not advertised as such.
