I really enjoyed this book, just like the other two in the series. Meyer does a good job keeping the book "clean" but I didn't care for the detail she went into when describing their romantic moments. My husband and I have both enjoyed this series and are looking forward to Breaking Dawn.

Eclipse is the best of the three books to come out yet. I literally was not able to put this one down. The story is building and getting a lot more interesting. Can't wait for the final book in the series.

Is there ever truly just one fated love in your life? What happens when your first love leaves you, crushes you, and you still survive but not as you once were? What happens when you go from loving the icy vampire to the warm werewolf? Welcome to Bella's world.
Perhaps the biggest change in the series so far is the fact that Bella begins to realize that love found her after Edward vanished. Even though her heart remained his, eventually she began to wake a bit and to find love again.
This book finds Bella now considering the things that she will have to deal with when she becomes a vampire. She learns the disturbing history of another Cullen who was made a vampire after being destroyed by her intended. Bella learns that not all the vampires wish her to give up her mortality so quickly. She also begins to face what she is leaving behind. The parents she cares for, the few friends she has made, even the every day things like graduating that the rest of her family of vampires want her to enjoy.
Bella also has her life and love tested by Jacob. Can the boy who you considered your sun, your friend, and someone you finally admit you do love compete with Edward. The nice thing that Stephenie Meyer gives you here is a deep growth in Bella. What happens when you find you have two true loves in your life? Is there a way to balance that life? What happens when neither is totally human and both are mortal enemies? Just where will the human heart lead Bella?
I'll agree with the friend from college who got me to read the first book. It is like getting hooked on a drug. You just can't wait for Mrs. Meyer to finish the last book and find out just where Bella's life or death may bring her.

I wish she'd sleep with Jacob I mean how long does a girl have to wait? She finally gets a real kiss in this book, but of course not by Edward. He keeps stalling on changing her into a vampire, it seems it will never happen, I guess she'll live as a nun the rest of her life! At least the writing is good and the story is compelling otherwise my frustrations would stop me from reading it. I couldn't put it down though haha.

If this book had ended with Bella choosing Jacob over Edward , I would have ripped it to shreds and fed it (no pun intended) to the wolves.
Bella belongs with Edward and she didn't need to spend time trying to choose. As an Edward Lover, Jacob is just annoying and pushy. Bella finally comes to her senses and says goodbye to Jacob (for now) and stays with Edward.

How could you not give it 5 stars?

I had the entire collection prior to this new edition coming out. I decided to purchase this special edition copy because not only did it have a sneak preview of Breaking Dawn but it held printable t-shirt stickers in the back to support either Edward or Jacob. I found this to be a wonderful edition to the collection and I donated my previous copy to the local library. This collection is one of my most favorite books and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy fiction.

(Hide Review...)  Great book, but does Bella have to be so "looked-after and coddled"?
Reviewer Permalink
I really loved the first two books in this series, but by this one I was getting more nad more annoyed with how helpless Bella had to be. The Cullens treating her like she was a doll with no way to even make her own decisions. Plus, I really liked Jacob's character and how he was there for her and treated her like an equal with a mind of her own. There were times when I just wanted to grab Bella and shake her for treating Jacob like crap and not telling Edward to just shut the *&*% up once in awhile.
Like another reviewer wrote here, their love for each other can getting just a tad annoying at times. By the time I finished the book I slammed it down fully annoyed with Bella's weakness and Edward's controling nature and was breathing a sigh of relief that it was at least over....until I saw that there is going to be a fourth novel and now I probably won't be able to stop myself from running out and snatching it as soon as it arrives on shelves.. sure the characters can be annoying but man, this series is so addictive!

I was a little reluctant to pick up Twilight because of how all the teenage girls reacted to it (I am not being mean, I was once a teenage girl too). I wan't sure if I wanted to know what was getting so many girls so obsessed...but I have to admit I was curious. I was in between books, and I don't do well without a book to read, so I ordered Twilight on a whim. I am so glad I did! I read it in a day...Stephenie is a great writer though she isn't fancy, so it is easy to read her work quickly. I immediately ordered the next two books, and pre-ordered the fourth! Am I a sucker or what!?
I have nothing negative to say about the books....even as I sit here and try to think of one thing...I can't. The mix of a perfectly normal human girl (teenage girl...so go easy on her...she can't help it!) and mythical creatures is enough to create a spectacular plot that carries on throughout the series. Forbidden love, secrets, mistakes, choices, sacrifices....it is all there, all entwined and and leaving the reader mystified. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I almosted vomitted (okay, not really, but some parts were pretty intense!), I fell in love with the books and I would do it all over again. Read it and love it!

I want to start off by saying that I LOVED Eclipse! I love all of the books so far....each equally, as they wouldn't be the same without each other. I have read many reviews and I noticed that several people don't like the character Stephenie has created to be her lead. I ask....how can you adore the books but hate the main character? I think Bella is a great character....very normal. She doesn't fit the typical role, and I think it works with the story. Bella herself doesn't believe that she is worth all the attention she is getting. And I don't find her selfish at all. She is always trying to do what is best for everyone else but she usually doesn't get her way. Sure, she might be a little self-centered by wanting to become a Vampire to be with the one she loves forever, but aren't we all just a little selfish when it comes to love? I know my dad wasn't particularly thrilled with my choice of boyfriend but I married him anyways (my dad loves him now!). Besides, she is a human teenager....do I need to say more?

And she may have been a little too eager to get Edward in bed with her, but in the end she ultimately resists that temptation. Isn't that what should really matter? I am sure we have all been tempted before, and it is when you can look at temptation and still walk away that makes us who we are. I have to give credit to Stephenie for creating a story with believable yet un-believable characters that plunge the reader into a fantasy world with a human twist. I can't wait for book four!

Stephenie Meyer does it again!! My 15 year daughter got me started on this author. I didn't think I would like it. I am not a huge fantasy buff like her, but there is something for everyone in her books! Although they are all long books (500 pages or more) They are quick reads. I read each book in one sitting (OK so I stayed up all night, but they are great books!) Bring us more novels like this! Great character development, sweet love stories, but oh so clean@!! Something you can share with your 15 year old daughter, and let me tell you there isn't much!!
Enjoy this great summer read and please oh please let there be more from this fabulous author!!!

I admit, I was caught up in the big Twilight craze for awhile. Who wasn't at one time, though? But as I grew in age, and thru many more read thru's of the books, I slowly began to realize how horrid these books are. Twilight was interesting in some parts, New Moon was bland, but Eclipse was just plain bad.

Edward and Bella thought they would have their happy ending by now, right? Wrong. It seems there's been reports of strange killings, and they may be Vampiric killings. At the samet time, Bella is battling an inward battle as Jacob grows more attached to her then ever. Is she starting to fall for the raven haired Werewolf? Or are these feelings being pushed on her by Jacob himself?

Sounds good right? I was actually interested to read about more tension between Bella and Jacob; and even Edward and Jacob. But, as I cannot seem to stress, it was weighed down by the following.

Bella Swan is still the perfect example of a Mary Sue.Bella's relationship with Edward is full on 'addiction.' It seems the heroine cannot live one solitary moment without him, or thinking about being with him. Apart from her 'addiction,' Bella is a pretty boring heroine indeed. She has no common goals, dreams; or hobbies to even speak of. Indeed, Edward in Eclipse is 'forcing' Bella to go to College, but she would rather just become a Vampire and live Happily Ever After. It's a sad day indeed when the Male is telling his Girlfriend she needs to go to College. In this day and age, women need to set goals to make it in this world. But Bella I'm afraid has none; apart from rereading 'Wuthering Heights' over and over again. Bella's an exasperating character, especially sense I've read other books with much better heroine's. Take for instance, Jane Eyre, Elizabeth Bennet, Emma Woodhouse, or the Dashwood sisters; all empowering heroine's who all face adversity with...what else..? Men. But here we have a heroine who does nothing but drool over her man. Even Hermoine Granger from Harry Potter has backbone; sharing her smarts and not being afraid to do anything. Something that also annoys me to no end is how Bella toys with Jacob. It's sickening, as Bella KNOWS Jacob is in love with her, and would do anything for her. How she often flip flops on her feelings towards him is annoying as well; and the 'steamy' embrace at the end was awkward and weird to read as a reader.

Secondly, let's talk about Edward Cullen, our Vampire Hero. Edward himself is a male equivalent of the Mary Sue type. He's perfect, a god, and can do no wrong. Edward needs only to whisper a few words of love into our Heroine's ear; and she's swooning. Now, I'm a romantic girl, and typically a guy who speaks romantic things would make any girl swoon. But the phrases Edward utters are so overly gushy, one might gag upon contact. However, in Eclipse, gone is the romantic; hello over protective stalkerish boyfriend. Edward cannot seem to stand it when Bella visits with her friend Jacob, so much that he goes and does something to the tires so she cannot go visit him. If my boyfriend ever did something like this, I'd kick his behind to the curb. Edward in Eclipse comes off as jealous and clingy. And while a jealous guy usally makes for an interesting read, here it's over done.

Shall I say more? Ms. Meyer's characters are one-dimensional, and one cannot seem to ever fully care for these people. If a person doesn't care for the characters, and the current situation, one should just put the book away. If you don't 'care' for something, you needn't continue it. Now I must admit, Ms. Meyer can write good when she wants too. Jasper and Rosalie's backstories are wonderful parts, but not enough to save a 600+ page book. Which makes for another point; the book is far too long. There's not enough action, there's much too much tension between the main characters. At least Twilight had a crazed Vampire killer, New Moon had a car theft; but Eclipse has nothing but overly cheesy dialouge. Also, the 'steamy' scenes with Edward and Bella are uneeded. Don't get me wrong, I've read worse, but in here these things came off as rushed and uneeded. Eclipse is like the censored, edited, and teen age bodice ripper.

I suggest you read some real romantic books with great, smart, Heroine's. Try Jane Eyre, Sense and Sensiblity, Wuthering Heights, or even Pride and Prejudice. Once you enter these worlds, you'll never want to leave.

FYI, Twilight, and Ms. Meyer cannot touch J.K. Rowling. I really do wish everyone would stop saying Ms. Meyer is the new Rowling! I now fully expect the fangirls to come at me with pitchforks.

And as for what I want to happen in 'Breaking Dawn?' Edward leaves Bella for Jacob. THAT would be a good book!

Reviewer Permalink
S. Meyer has a great story (saga). I read all 3 books (those printed so far) and immensely enjoyed the story line. I enjoyed the story line so much I purchased and read all 3 books within one week.

However, her writing proves that she is a YA fiction writer. I have not read "The Host" where she writes for adults, but the Twilight saga is definitely for young adults. Her writing is stylistic, and states things rather than describes them (situations, locations). While we read to be mesmerized and it is obviously fantasy, she creates things that are obviously teenager fantasy (a beautiful, circular clearing the woods that is secret for them? Come on.)

The only character truly fleshed out is Jacob, the one character that she keeps dismissing in her entire series. The relationship between Edward (vampire) and Bella (human main character) is not developed (unlike the relationship between Jacob and Bella, which is very fleshed out and detailed and leaves the audience rooting for Jacob). The relationship between Edward and Bella is not developed...the author simply states that it is...there is nothing leading to it, nothing within the story that proves it or builds on it and seriously, this is a story for teenagers...what the hell is the author doing condoning suicide for teenagers because their first love doesn't love them back?

All in all, and I'm just repeating myself here, I loved the story line...her idea of vampires is novel in its own way and the dynamic she has between the different societies is good. However, she could use to re-read her stories and try to flesh out what she is saying with story rather than with her "this is what it is" way of currently doing it. I hope she does better with the next book in the series, but based on the preview I read in the back of this one...she didn't and its still blatant and totally teenager fantasy.

Eclipse, the third book in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, finally solidifies the distinctly dangerous message that obsessive love is a thing divine. By the end of the 600-page tome Bella Swan realizes that her inexplicable love for vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen is neither healthy nor rational, but she decides she simply can't live without it. Meyer uses Emily Bronte's classic novel Wuthering Heights to justify her distasteful romance - Bella is Cathy Earnshaw, madly in love with wild and monstrous Heathcliff (not quite a vampire, but close!). Bella and Edward quote dialogue from the novel to each other, obsessive lines spoken by deranged fictional lovers whose relationship leads to nothing but disaster for both of them. Bronte kills off her heroine mid-way through Wuthering Heights, leaving Heathcliff alone to torment the remaining characters in his insane quest for vengeance. By the end of the novel Bronte gives us a second generation of characters, Catherine Linton and Hareton Earnshaw, who are able to love each other realistically and thus achieve real happiness. There is nothing noble or admirable about Cathy and Heathcliff, and there is little noble or admirable about Bella and Edward.

In Eclipse, Bella is "torn between two lovers" - vampire Edward and werewolf Jacob. Of the two, Jacob is portrayed as the flesh-and-blood man who can offer Bella a real life, even if he is a werewolf. It's clear that had magic and monsters not been part of Bella's life, she would have been with Jacob - they are, as she herself agrees, "soul mates." In fact, she admits that the only force that could trump a soul mate is "something so strong that it could not exist in a rational world." As Jacob says to Bella, "[Edward's] like a drug for you." And it's absolutely true - Bella is addicted and there's nothing healthy, rational, or sane about it. There's also something very unsettling about the hoards of young women who are finding themselves as addicted to these novels (and to Bella's romance with Edward) as Bella is herself. This is NOT love! It's a psychotic addiction.

I enjoyed Twilight and I liked parts of New Moon. But I had a really, really hard time getting through Eclipse, mainly because I saw little growth in Bella's character and no real deepening of her incomprehensible relationship with Edward. Meyer's message - that the ultimate love relationship defies reason and common sense - is dangerous, especially in books aimed at teenage girls.

Reviewer Permalink
In the latest book of the Twilight series, things finally begin to come together and seem more realistic. Twilight introduced readers to Edward, the Cullens, and how Bella fell in love with Edward. New Moon introduced us to Jacob Black and his clan of werewolves. Now, in Eclipse, Bella is beginning to figure things out. She realizes the two worlds which she became a part of in the previous books cannot coexist. Although Bella loves both Edward and Jacob (she has finally realized it), she must choose. Now she finally starts to think about whether or not she really wants to be a vampire for eternity. She knows that Jacob can offer her things which Edward can't, such as a chance at a normal life and a family, but her undying love for Edward remains. Overall, Meyer has written a very compelling story line in her third book.

But, aside from the excellent story, the Characters become much more developed. Bella finally starts thinking things through, rather than always rushing into trouble. She stands up to Edward, and admits that she is in love with Jacob. The reader also gets to know the history of almost all the important characters. Some of the big mysteries are revealed, and it becomes easier to relate to and understand Stephenie's characters.

The Twilight series seems to be maturing in its own way, making it even more enjoyable (if that's possible) than it was before. The third book, Eclipse, was great to read and left me anticipating the fourth book. Not a disappointment at all, anyone who enjoyed Twilight and New Moon will love this book.

First and Foremost, I Love Stephenie Meyer, she had my attention thru all three books, and leaves me Thirsty for more!!! I have my calendar marked and ready to count down the days till I can get my Grubby little paws on Breaking Dawn!

I can not believe how much I have enjoyed reading these books, and as soon as I get my first 2 books from this series back from my Friend I WILL be re-reading them! I am hoping and praying SM will Keep at writing books, as I will be her fan for life.

I love Edward and Jake, they are both great in their own way, Bells gets on my nerves a bit at times, but she eventually got back to my good side...
I like that this story line comes down to a deep love between 2 people...and no matter how much they are together I enjoy every minute of it. I love how there was not a moment I got bored with it because the way Stephenie writes is well paced, I would put it down, take care of the kids and then pick it back up as soon as I got a spare moment. These books were finnished in no time!

I am rooting for E&B...But I do have a soft spot for Jake, but I have faith in Stephenie that she will make it all work out. And I will be anxiously awaiting to read about it!

Thank you Stephenie!!! Please keep up the Stories, I hope and pray to see you around for years to come!!!

Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series, had a redeeming quality to it that was necessary after having read New Moon, the second book. While I love both stories, the second book hurt and I needed reassurance that the characters were still the same ones I had fallen in love with in Twilight. Fortunately, I received that reassurance, and it has solidified my love for this series.

One of the best things about this series, for me, is that the characters are always the primary story. This is true in Eclipse as much as the other two novels. There is an interesting plot to the third book, which ties in nicely with the second, but the focus is always on Bella and Edward and their relationship. The events that are going on always link back to how this will change things between Bella and Edward (if at all). Jacob Black still plays a prominent role in this one, though not as much as he had in the second, but with a completely different attitude. The triangle--Edward, Bella, and Jacob--is the central issue throughout the book. It can be frustrating at times.

This book in particular also has quite a bit of back-story. You learn about Rosalie's and Jasper's pasts, as well as more stories of the tribe in La Push (I can't remember how to spell it). As a result Jasper has become one of my favorite characters, and now, having gone back and started to re-read the series in preparation for the release of the final book, I feel like I better understand the characters and their actions.

Overall this is just a fantastically entertaining series. People should be wary of the "vampire" label that it has been given, because this is such a secondary aspect of the books. They are so much more than the traditional "vampire" novels. Meyer is a fairly religious person and brings some aspects of this to her books (most noticeably Edward's preoccupation with a soul) creating a depth to certain characters that otherwise may have been lacking. The books definitely suck you in to their world, in a way that many have compared to Harry Potter. In fact, most people consider this series to be the "life after Harry Potter" series, and it has exponentially risen in popularity since the release of Eclipse and the news of a movie in December.

I'll end my review with this disclaimer: Edward Cullen will ruin boyfriends everywhere. :)

I am sure that many of you guys have heard people say that the Twilight Series is the new Harry Potter and I couldn't agree more. I was one of the people who jumped on the band wagon with Twilight a month or two after the first book was released. i instantly fell in love with it (and Edward). Though I utterly despise Edward now and have high lighted every action/words that have made me want to slap him if he were real, these books are still lovely. If you are stuck between this series and another, take it from me (because I have real decision making problems, I know it's better if someone makes the choice for you) choose this one; it will be worth it. And, don;t forget to read with a critical eye. ~Fire is better than ice...GO TEAM JACOB!!!!!~

Because then it would be over... The third installment of Stephanie Meyer's series about vampires living in Washington state does not disappoint. The character of Jacob Black is much more defined here, and I fell in love with him! Meyer has an uncanny ability to reel her readers in and make them want to wrap a blanket around her characters and take care of them as if they are our own. I am counting the days until the 4th installment...

I've never read Wuthering Heights, so I couldn't appreciate the allusions to it. For this book the author falls back on a very common theme of romance novels- the "torn between two lovers" ordeal. I was disappointed by this, as it was very uncreative, and unconvincing for these characters. The first book was great. I'm very much looking forward to reading "Midnight Sun" when that comes out.

Okay, so I'm 29 but I love this whole series. Overall I had some serious issues with Eclipse. However, it didn't stop me from getting sucked in. In all honesty, I couldn't put the book down.

My qualms: Bella needs to give everyone a break on her love for Edward. It didn't come off as healthy or equal in anyway. She appeared obsessive and spineless. The fact that Edward could order her around in "her best interest" was really too much. Bella either needs a brain to deal with her own situations or she needs to listen better to her parents and her friends.

Also, I thoroughly like Jacob. But, I didn't like the idea of him pressing his "love" on her such as the kissing scene, etc. If someone did this to me in real life - I would be livid. It's easy to write about it thinking it will come off as cute but in this case - definitely not. And while I'm complaining - I could have done without Bella's non-stop panting after Edward.

All that said, I can't wait for number four. I hope she does a better job and we get some of Twilight back into it. Happy reading!

Out of all Twilight series books this one is my favorite so far. I love how you get to know each character even more than you do in the first two books. It just makes me want to read them all over and over and over again!

I find it odd, that, Stephenie is a Mormon, who doesn't believe in pre-marital sex, yet, feels it's no problem to write about a girl who wants to live and die for her 'man.' What a great message! Hey, I'm a Mormon, too, Stephenie (non-practicing, however), and I know that the church would disagree with your message, since you seem to worry how you come across.

That aside: boring characters, boring story, medicore writing, etc... Don't get the popularity.

Having actually lived in Forks is what originally drew me into this series. Now I'm totally hooked. This well written, well plotted story line has me already counting down the days until book 4. It's nice to read such a mesmerizing story that has some values to it. I think this book will attract a wide crowd from young readers to old and keep them engrossed.
I would highly recommend this book!

I had mixed feelings about this book. On the positives: I LOVED the allegories to Wuthering Heights. I also think her writing style is fantastic in this book; she's turned into quite a prolific author! Most embarrassingly, I cried when she left Jacob. Kind of a lot. I guess I'm not above a little teen angst getting to me. I think that scene and her feelings afterward is really beautifully written. On the negatives: I felt like Meyer had to go back and explain a lot of unnecessary stuff. This is a very character-driven series, I appreciate that, but do I really care about 30 pages of Jacob's tribal legends? Do I really care about Jasper's transformation? Not really. On with the love triangle!! I tore through the first two novels at a ridiculous speed, but the third seemed a little longer to me. I still loved it, and I've got no doubt that I'll love the 4th and final novel in the series, but I kind of get the feeling that she's drawn it out a little too long. We all know she's gonna marry Edward and get bitten, and while that's going to be hugely rewarding and I'm sure extremely beautiful and romantic (*sigh* death and vampirism), she really could have ended this book that way. It will be a little silly if there's yet another evil vampire that wants to kill Bella and Edward has to save her yet again...ummm but I'll still be reading it the day it comes out!

Like all of this series, I loved this book... I was a little upset by what had happened with Jacob later in the book because I really like Edward... But I could understand. I know what it's like being IN love with someone but being more IN love with someone else. Great book and I think that this series is endind too soon!!! I have the 4th book on pre-order and can't wait until it comes out... After I read the last book my only question will be:

WHEN THE HECK WILL THE MOVIES COME OUT!!! I really think they should make these books into movies like they did with Harry Potter!!!!

Overall GREAT book!!!!

Eclipse is by far the best of the beginning trilogy of the Twilight novels. It keeps you reading and guessing right up to the end...and then some! It is a steamy romance without the X rated vocabulary. It gives the romance in all of us the chance to awaken and take flight. You read and then have the urge to fall in love again!

I LOVE this series and this book did NOT disappoint!! Right from book 1 ("Twiligh") Stephenie had written such personality into all of her characters that you just can't put her books down.I am a 28 year old mother of 2 and I just LOVED these books. Don't let the fact that they are found in the young adults section throw you off.I have my co-workers reading these and they range in age from 20-60 years old. They are AWESOME!! I am VERY eagerly awaiting book 4("Breaking Dawn")coming out in August.("Twilight" the movie comes out 12-12-08... I can't wait!) Read them trust me you will LOVE them!!
Sincerely a HUGE Edward and Bella fan

This book was a little to melodramatic for my liking, especially the main character Bella. Nothing truly new was developed and characters became more annoying becuase of the overkill on their personality traits. Everything that happened in this book was predictable. I will give that it is entertaining to see how right one can be when foretelling the events. I think it fell way short of the first two books. not sure whether or not I will check out the next book.

The third book in the Twilight story brings Edward and Jacob butting heads. Bella does a bit of growing up in this story. So does Meyer's as a writer. The story is presented in a more contensed time span which helps with the long drawn out scenes that have appeared in the last two novels. Once again you have Meyer's amazing charactors and a story that will not let you put it down until you have finished the last page. But the biggist thing you have is the unanswered question of what is going to happen next. So far this is the best book in the series.

I want all my friends to read the Twilight books-I loved them and it really did not seem like my typical type of book. Normally I go for chic lit and this was not classified as that. Easy to read, different plot, very enjoyable.
