Written by Mary G. for Ann F. and Mary G. @ SCG Photos
Using "Simplified, Tips& Tricks" was soothing to my novice photographer's heart. I was able to quickly scan and/or find all topics of interest by color, number, and/or page. The table of contents was simple and direct in layout, while being comprehensive in alerting me to what each section/chapter offered. I also found that there was an abundance of photos and illustrations...which I would expect in a photography handbook , but is not always the case as I've learned. I found the color bar which rated the degree of difficulty for the "tip/trick" presented; was most useful and right on, in choosing a new task to try at my novice level. This is an excellent book for the photographer who is ready to move past the "auto" setting and gain more knowledge and experience. What was especially wonderful about "Simplified, Tips & Tricks" is that the body of the book delivered on what it promised in the table of contents, and the delivery was uniform, multi-faceted, and comprehensive without being overwhelming. A useful book that will be used over and over again! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-03 03:01:56 EST)

Good learning book for beginners in digital photography. Not very helpful if you've been doing this for a while.

This is FUN learning through the use of colorful visuals and well written text. This book is organized to take the reader from initial camera settings and basic shooting guidelines to wonderfully creative suggestions for achieving those "Wow!" images. Color bars on each page indicate level of task difficulty. Those learning and working in Adobe Elements will enjoy Chapters 7 and 8 as they follow the easy steps to working with histograms, layers, cloning, RAW conversions, etc. The last two chapters take your images through the successful printing process and finally the culmination of creating digital projects for others to enjoy. This book is a great tableside quick reference for beginners up through intermediate photographers. I highly recommend it!![[ASIN:0764596160 Digital Photography: Top 100 Simplified Tips & Tricks]

What can I add ?
To say more and to be quick : - real good advices rated by difficulty - simple to understand and to practice - no sequential reading required, you can pick up in the book... It just could have 50 more tips... Maybe in the Vol.2... Excuse my speaking (I'm french). (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-20 02:52:12 EST)

This book is clear and concise in its layout and information presented. It's a valuable tool for me, a long-time 35mm photographer, transitioning from film to digital. I'd recommend this book to anyone.

Top 100 Simplified Tips and Tricks is a nice, user-friendly adjunct to one's digital camera's user manual. It gives simplified explanations with full color pages and LOTS of pictures to supplement the often compex instructions and explanations found in the user manual. The pictures REALLY help, and the explanations are easy to understand, so you don't have to be a rocket-scientist to take markedly better pictures. A definite must-have!

I just received the new edition of this book. I hestitated to buy it because I owned the previous edition and didn't know if this one would be worth the extra investment. I was not disappointed. This has been totally redesigned and is packed with lots of new techniques and killer photos. Very inspirational and easy to use. Hey...I guess I'm hooked.

I just bought this book last night, and am half way through reading it already. It's an excellent book for the amateur to advanced photographer who hates to read lengthy dialog, but wants to learn some quick tips and tricks on how to improve their photography. Even applies to more advanced photographers - especially those who are coming off of "film" and going "digital".
It has tips and tricks for every aspect of digital photography -- from setting up your equipment, to taking better pics, to storing and printing them. It assumes the reader has access to Photoshop Elements (as opposed to a complete version of Photoshop), which is nice. It has clear and high-quality photos to support each lesson. Most lessons are 2 pages (a couple are 4 pages), so it's a very quick and easy read. Love it! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-14 08:11:45 EST)

The only thing I didn't like about this book was that the first page of the photoshop section says "This section requires familiarity with basic Photoshop Elements commands; to learn these commands see "Teach Yourself VISUALLY Restoration and Retouching with Photoshop Elements" If you haven't read that book, this section might not make a lot of sense. It is full of great tips, ideas that are very helpful. It doesn't go into great depth on subject matter but is good for a beginner.

This is a wonderful book. I recommend it for beginners, and for mid-level digital photography enthusiasts that are having a hard time absorbing all of the technical jargon. I have my mind so full of computer jargon that it seemed there was no place left to "file" the lingo for my somewhat serious photography hobby. Each page has equal amounts of text AND example photos with explanation, and all IN COLOR. I'm not sure how others feel, but I can't read a book on photography that doesn't have pictures, or where the photographs are in black and white. (unless black & white photography is the subject of course) This gave me a new way to look at things, corrected some very big misunderstandings, and definitely made a BIG difference in the quality of my photographs. I use a professional digital SLR, and the hints and tips in this book have been keeping me interested and busy for more than two weeks now. You won't be disappointed!

I bought this book not knowing what to expect from it..impulse buy. There was this book and another on Photoshop Elements 2.0 by the same author/company. But I figured it is more important to learn to take good/great pictures first then learn how to fix any errors or adjustment in pictures. Completing the book I am very happy of the purchase and the style it was written with color pictures step by step so you don't get lost. In fact I'm going to buy the Photoshop Elements 2.0 from the same company because I like their five star visual learning system. This book is not for the advanced photographer but but for the beginner to intermediate it is EXCELLENT. Well priced too!!! :)
