I've been receiving Stephen Snyder's Life After Bankruptcy newsletter for over a year now, and decided to order his book recently when he offered it at a discount price. According to his advertisements, this book is supposed to contain the secrets to his success which are only hinted at in his free newsletter. I was sorry to see that ALL of the information in the book was the same information pretty much verbatim as offered in his free newsletters. (As it is, his newsletters are getting repetitive. I've read the same stories and examples several times now in different formats.) What isn't offered in his newsletters is nearly an entire chapter encouraging "Faith in God", which I do not find a helfpul nor credible means of changing my finances or credit situation. Might be helfpul for Christians who need to reaffirm their faith in the divine, but for the rest of us non-Christians, it is non-applicable and is a waste of content. I regret sending Mr. Snyder my 10 bucks...I should have followed the book's advice and invested it in Real Estate!

There is a moderate amount of useful information about life after bankruptcy. Probably half of the information can be found on the internet. However, the author should not have used the bankruptcy information as a cover for preaching his religious beliefs. I felt mislead.

You can find all this information on line. There is nothing new here for a post bankruptcy person. Also, he has a RELIGIOUS BENT so be careful.

Had I known about the holy roller content throughout this book (especially in one chapter, but sprinkled throughout), I wouldn't have bought it. I wouldn't have a problem with it at all...except for the fact that such religiously-based content was concealed in the title, description (on the back), & introduction (in the front & back flaps). There was no mention of God, Jesus, Bible, etc. in any of these places. If this author is so keen on using his religious beliefs (inner-mingled with an extremely secular, materialistic topic) to turn a profit...fine. But at least be honest about it. Isn't that one of the tenets of Christianity? If the author is so devoted to his faith, perhaps he shouldn't be shy (shamed?) about shouting from the rooftops that his book is about money and Jesus.

Now...I did give him 2 stars, rather than 1, because there was some valuable information in his book...especially in the first chapter. Heck...had he been up front with the content of his book, I'd probably give him 4-5 stars. I'm not perturbed with the religious stuff being in it. Rather, I feel deceived in not being told the content by the author or publisher.

I bought this book in 1998 after my Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I give this book the credit for me now having a credit score of over 700. I was told by Mr. Synder of a great secured credit card at that time "FCNB" (not available anymore) that was one of the best to help repair credit. I have always paid low interest rates on cars (1.9% thru Honda) and purchased a brand new (just built) home in 2002. I have purchased boats and four wheelers all financed thru reputable lenders. I loved this book!!! I really liked the part where it explained how you need to get a copy of your credit report after discharge and make sure all the outstanding balances are changed to zero. I believe that was the best tip ever. I had a finance manager at a auto dealer tell me I had the best looking bankruptcy credit report ever.

After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this book but to skip over the authors opinions (religious or otherwise). I highly recommend if you are skeptical due to the less favorable reviews to do the same. It has provided me with a completely new outlook on my financial future (which I thought was doomed) as well as educated me on credit reports and FICO scores (something I had always dreaded in fear that my reports/scores would be horrendous - which they actually were not).

Although this book does contain a fair amount of information about bankruptcy and credit issues thereafter, it also has a spiritual focus that is not in anyway indicated in the advertising.

I do not object to this focus, as an author has the right to write any sort of book s/he wants. I do, however, object that this particular focus was not revealed in the advertising. I am on a spiritual path that has been part and parcel of my own decision and work with having to claim Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Had I known this book would not only put forth a particular spiritual focus but also contains a full chapter on this subject from a book by a different author, I would not have bought it. Of course, I am sure that this is why the publisher does not reveal this focus.

However, this does not relieve the author from any responsibility for not revealing this spirutal focus. I had been receiving his email newsletter for months, and had at one time received a lot of material from him when considering taking one of his courses, both before buying the book. And neither his pre-course literature nor his emails reveal this as a focus of his book.

So as far as this book goes I would have appreciated more information on the details of credit issues after bankruptcy and much less on his particular spiritual beliefs. Failing that, that the publisher and the author had been forthcoming about this particular content so that I would not have spent money on a book that ultimately did not meet my needs.

Our Chapter 7 discharged in Oct. 2002. We got an informational mailing regarding the credit after bankruptcy seminar but couldn't attend so I bought the book. Best $30 I ever spent. I immediately applied for a First Premier Bank Credit card (which shows as unsecured on your credit report), never missed a payment and kept my balance low. Then applied for a small $1500 auto loan at my credit union, with a co-signer. In the summer of 2003 we went to Ford Dealership and bought our first brand new car 2003 Ford Focus! In December 2003 we purchased our first home! In 2004 I bought a 1999 Mustang Convertable. Since then we have also opened two other credit card accounts. Orchard Bank is a good one. The book gives you great information and resources to turn a bad situation into a good one. Although I did not get to lease a vehicle through Ford and had a higher interest rate than what the book said I would get, I was still by far extremely happy because I would have never gotten as far as I did without it! And the breif time he talks about God, well, I thought that was a blessing and has a good message. Of course I believe in God. And if you don't, get over it. The world doesn't revolve around you. (Not to be rude but...) Point made. It's a great book. For those of us imperfect people who have totally screwed up our finances and would like a second chance to prove that we can get it right this book offers sound advice. I confess I have strayed from it a bit and tried to apply for too many in too short a period and it lowered my credit score and caused me more harm, so beware...take it slow and in two years you can be back on track, in a new home, in a new car, just follow the great advice that is offered. You'll be glad you did!
We are now looking to by an investment property (2 1/2 years after our chapter 7 bk)! I am greatful to Stephen for writing the book! And if he is making bank, more power to him. He certainly did me a service. He should be paid for it.

I purchased the book and went to Stephen's seminar, both are WELL worth the cost!! Yes, some of the information in the book are common sense, like about secured credit cards, but he saved me the time by combining everything and putting it in one place. And what did the book cost me? $25-$30! Well worth it to me. Time is money. I don't have the time to try and find this information out myself.
Also highly recommend his seminar! What did that cost? ZERO! and he didn't con you into buying $300 worth of books and tapes that other seminars do. He gives you 100% of the information you need, not 25% and makes you buy the other 75% for an outrageous price. Stephen tells you this at the beginning of the seminar, no cost to you! Sure you can buy his $30 book if you want, but you dont' have to buy a thing. The other great thing is he has local resources if you need to buy a car (it's Ford, so what! you're trying to reestablish credit, not show off!), mortgage lenders, etc. Again, Stephen does the leg work for you. You don't have to spend hours or days trying to find a car dealer or mortgage lender that knows what bankruptcy people are going through and are willing to work with them!!
I think people who put negative comments about the book, Stephen and/or his seminar forget this! You're bankrupt! You need to re-establish your credit! That's the goal with Stephen, to get you re-established. Not show off your Hummer or your $500K house! Get real people!!
His information is only $30, not $300 and it's well worth it!

From the previous reviews, it appears people either love this book (5 stars) or hate it (1 star.) I've read both of Mr. Snyder's books and I have attended his seminar. I do not consider him a strong writer, but then again I don't think he is trying to impress the public with his writing abilities. What he is attempting to do (and I think he is doing a good job of it) is offer sound advice on what steps can be taken to recover from a bankruptcy quickly. I followed his advise and indeed have had positive results.

Overall, I think his message is very clear, to recover from this type of experience one will need to address it on more then just the level of getting a new visa card. There is a lot of shame and embarrasment connected to finding yourself in bankruptcy. For myself, I found reading his book very helpful with addressing those emotional issues. If you find or have found yourself in a bankrupt state then I would recommend this book as a good source to assist with your recovery.

I purchased this book about 2 months ago because I was unable to attend the seminar and thought I could gain some helpful insight.

I agree with several of the previous comments...Mr. Synder seems to be more in the 'commercial advertising' business than in the CAB business. I say this because the book is FULL of commercials but void of any accurate phone numbers, addresses or CURRENT websites.

Additionally, there was a chapter on where to find secure or non secured credit card...the average person would think they would find names, addresses or phone numbers in this chapter, right? Wrong! Again, all you get is "man, they raised my credit limit", "man, they really worked with me", but what you don't receive are helpful information (actually you don't receive anything) only a statement from Stephen saying "I could have included the information in my book, but since this stuff changes so much I'll refer you to a special company who has all this information available for you".

Guess who he refers you to? His own personal CAB website, which by the way is NOT 'open for business'? The 'revised' book I purchased has been out for over 2 years and the "Join After Bankruptcy" group that he steers you to, (which is printed on page 212 in the back of his book) the phone number rings busy or either tells you 'where not quite ready for business so go to this website'. Once you get to the website you realize it's just a website that Stephen's putting together and 6 out of the 8 pages that comprise the entire website say the same thing 'where not quite ready for business'!!

Why have people go to a website or supply a phone number where there really is NO business in existence at all?!!

I believe Stephen, in the beginning, had good intentions to help people after his ordeal, but now I think it's just about Stephen helping Stephen. I understand a business is in the business to make money, but when your business is supposed to help someone you at LEAST need to provide the help you claim to have. Even if you decided to associate whatever price for the service (which by the way you did in the price I paid for the book) you need to provide the actual service. Not a bunch of..."this person was helpful", with NO name or contact information on who this person is, or "this credit card company was so helpful in helping me re-establish my credit" but with no company name or contact information.

I could go on but I think by now you get the point! Don't waste your money buying the book and maybe Mr. Synder will eventually get the message that you need to provide people with the actual information in your book instead of the theory behind how helpful these folks where.

I think the information Stephen and Michelle have to offer is amazing! Yes, I'm sure you can find information on the net (what subject can you NOT find information on reading the internet??!!), but how convenient to have it all in one place! I don't know about you, but I DO NOT have the time to do all the researching it would take to better my credit (some of us have to work for a living).

Everyone who has common sense (which in this country is very few) now how to raise their credit scores (don't go into debt and always pay your bills on time), but for those of us who have broken BOTH rules need some extra help and a great big push.

I am offended by the comments some readers have made personally attacking Stephen Snyder. I know him personally and he is not "but this man is just plain offensive! He makes sexist pig comments such as how he is the "leader" of his house, but he takes his wife's opinion into consideration....well how nice of him!" Hey, my husband is the "leader" of our house...that's they way it should be.:) And regarding the Ford Company...they do fall apart easily....they are American made which has a reputation of being badly made. I, too, thought the same when my husband told me that Ford was the best dealer to buy a new car from after bankruptcy. I wanted it to any other dealership than FORD.

Both him and Michelle are extremely nice and generous people. A couple who ACTUALLY cares about the people they are trying to reach, not like that idiot (the blond chick on the late night infomercials) who only cares about the money she is making.

And who would think that God has nothing to do with this? That's the most horrible thing I ever heard. Of course you won't get back on your feet if you don't believe God has something directly to do with it. I commend Stephen talking about and writing about God. Without him, we would have nothing and nothing to strive for.

Anyhow, I think all that Stephen and Michelle have to offer is an excellent way to climb out of the depths of debt and/or bankruptcy. If you don't enjoy this book, then wait for his new one that is about to come out. It will be updated and even better!

I read the review by Daph. Obviously she didn't truly read this wonderful book. Mr. Snyder does not talk down to women. Instead, he encourages husbands to listen to their wives and their "sixth sense." Each chapter is a step to be learned in the recovery process, so no - there is not a graph showing the steps to take. There's way too much information to consider to print it in such a way. There's many ways to establish credit. This book is for people who want to learn the RIGHT way to do it. Mr. Snyder's examples of his previous thinking (that Ford sucks) is written in a humerous way that tells us all to "build a bridge and get over it" if we want to do this the RIGHT way. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to reestablish their credit, whether bankrupt or not.

I should have read the reviews a bit better BEFORE ordering this book! Not only is there NO "step-by-step" guide to repairing your credit, but this man is just plain offensive! He makes sexist pig comments such as how he is the "leader" of his house, but he takes his wife's opinion into consideration....well how nice of him!
I hope no Ford Motor Company employees purchase this book, he also comments on how when he found out a Ford was about the only vehicle he could purchase after bankruptcy they were "scared it would fall apart" being a measly American made vehicle and all. How embarrassing to have to call this man a fellow American!
If you want to read about how jesus saves, women are morons, and american made items are junk, buy this book. Otherwise, start saving your money now and and dont waste your time! I'm selling mine right now (I just got it today) and I feel like i'm ripping someone off by even re-selling this crap!

This book is FULL of the best information, and is perfect for everyone. I went to this mans seminar, and am happy to say that he is an honest human being, and I would advise you to follow whatever suggestions he gives. I HAVE, and I have made fantastic progress ever since I picked up this book. My credit record is finally doing great, and my fica scores have sky rocketed.
He helps you get the job done. It's not a quick fix, but if you are willing to do what you have to do, THIS BOOK will see you through your mess, with little work, and you will be much better for it.
I just receive a notice from the credit bureau and they have taken another bad item off my credit. My scores are almost perfect again, and I am sure it is because of this book.

If you're a woman who likes to think on your own, then Snyder's gonna insult you. He makes a big show of being the head of the family and how his wife has to go along with it. Plus, add in the Born-again factor, and I'm out. Good thing you can resell these online.

Had I read the reviews, all of them, I would have noticed the part about church and God. I want to return this book forthwith!!
The nerve to actually preach and advise large contributions is just not right!!!!

This book is an example of a process which must be experienced to be appreciated. It's not enough to read the book -- you have to take the excellent advice and put it into practice, e.g. by hiring an attorney to challenge credit report items and get them expunged.

Better still, attend one of Stephen's seminars, which are free and ought to cost several hundred in all fairness. This text will definitely teach you how to rebuild your credit and buy property very quickly (e.g. 1-2 years) after bankruptcy.

TRY IT!

This book gave me HOPE back. It is simple, to the point, and literly a God send. All I can say is, that it WORKS!
Getting on your feet again is almost impossible until you have the right perspective, this book gives you that, and so much more.
The steps you take will get you into even better shape than you were before bankruptcy. I know, I did it.
Remember it's a simple step by step plan, but works like you had a dozen lawyers. HONEST !!!!!

I am in no way affiliated with Stephen Snydor and can offer an objective opinion. If you are contemplating bankruptcy or are struggling to recover, buy this book! It's a formula that works, what else do you need? Other reviews mentioned I could get the info for free at a library. You won't find most of this at the library...but I also think my time is worth more than [the price] an hour in research...so buying a book with all the info I need in one place is well worth the expenditure to me. I had the priviledge of attending one of Stephen's seminars so I was further motivated to buy the book. Stephen is for real. He's "been there and done that", learned to break the rules and legally color outside of the lines and will help you on your road to recovery..financially, mentally and for some, even spiritually. He'll stop you from making the major mistakes almost everyone makes after filing bankruptcy (you wouldn't guess what they are!). Yes, you can buy a car at a decent interest rate. (Do you know where to go?) Yes, you can buy a home (you do not have to wait 7 years...he shows you the fast track). He recommends terrific outside services. I'm about to apply for a secured credit card, but cannot say enough about the credit repair service he recommends. My attorney warned me off but I did it anyway by Stephen's advice and it works! Every 60 days negative credit is being erased from my report. It's unbelievable to watch.

Yes, you can thrive after Bankruptcy if you know what to do. Stephen hands you the formula that makes it much easier.

Stephen and Michelle do an excellent job of walking you through the steps you need to take to gain access to all the credit you desire, after bankruptcy. This book lives up to its name. If you're looking to buy things on credit again, even with a bankruptcy, you can, and the Snyders walk you through the process, one step at a time. Just make sure you're not looking to get caught in the debt cycle again out of fear of not having "enough" or you'll wind up as one of the many folks who are becoming repeat bankruptcy filers.

I've never written a review here although I purchase often. But Credit after Bankruptcy was such an incredible waste of time and money that felt the need to let others know. This book has no real substance, superficial advice that can be found in any number of online articles on bankruptcy. Poorly written; often repeating stories from chapter to chapter, a very dry and non-engaging format. Save your money!

I'm a mortgage loan officer, and I recommend Mr. Snyder's book to my customers who DON'T qualify for loans because it's the on ramp for the fast lane to good credit.

You need to have, use, and maintain credit to build wealth. Unfortunately, re-establishing credit after a bankruptcy filing is easy, but doing it the right way isn't. Mr. Snyder's advice and explanations about the credit system, secured credit cards, installment loans, types of revolving accounts to avoid, etc are all dead on target. This book explains the pitfalls, loan sharks and sleazeballs who try to take advantage of people at the end of their rope. If you filed bankruptcy, this is the book for you. Other books on this topic, like Ms. Langguth-Ryan's, actually advise you to things that are detrimental to an improved score.

As for the religious section that another reviewer complained about: It's short. I'm a catholic, and the Christian fundamentalist bible study Mr. Snyder recommends would make me uncomfortable. But I do think he has every right to suggest that morality has a role to play in building your fortune, and to tell you that learning ethical and moral standards through his faith tradition was a part of his financial recovery. You can take it or leave it, or do what I did and adjust it to meet your personal beliefs. Most people end up in bankruptcy (not all, most) because they made poor financial and life decisions. If Mr. Snyder didn't share how he changed his financial situation by changing his life habits, he'd be dishonest.

Get the book. And don't waste your time with others.

(Hide Review...)  The Best Book for Recovering From Bankruptcy

I've been through bankruptcy and thanks to Stephen Snyder, I am no longer embarrassed about it. The number of people who have done the same is staggering. This is THE book to purchase if you're like me and want to recover and regain your good credit. I've recommended it to everyone I know who has gone through bankruptcy or who is considering it. Unlike many recovery scams, Stephen has been there, recovered and did it in a totally legal fashion. I won't spoil the story, but it's powerful! If he can do it, all of us can do it. It also makes a great gift for anyone you know who has declared bankruptcy.

How can one say enough regarding someone who sets you free?! Stephen Snyder's Bood, Credit After Bankruptcy, was a Godsend to me and my family. Forced to go through Chapter 7 Bankruptcy because of huge debt, our life was a living Hell because of the threatening collection letters, the incessant phone calls, and the embarassing denials of further credit.
This book guides anyone who has been through bankruptcy (or even thinking of going through it),to the light at the end of the tunnel. ANYONE can use the simple instructions in this book to rebuild their credit after Bankruptcy. I know, because I have done it!
It is NOT an instant cure-all, but by following the simple steps, just as the book says, you can get credit cards, new cars, and even a new house with no money down!

Thank You Stephen!

The information in this book is an absolute necessity for anyone who was forced to file bankruptcy. It would also be very helpful for anyone just looking to improve their credit rating. Not only is the book very helpful, but they are very quick to answer any questions over the phone or via e-mail. I am very impressed with that aspect and prompt responses that I get to my questions. These guys are just genuinely good people, which is nice to find nowadays.
