I had just read four commercial real estate books and this one was by far the most comprehensive. Well-written, very accessible. This clearly illustrates that with a persistence and focus, one can dispel many myths about getting started with investing in commercial real estate.

I noted that most of the positive reviews occured in a 5 or so day period around the 1st of March -- all are *too* well written to be considered from the 'common' reader. And, each of the reviews only says positive things, where most people would find positive aspects of what was written, and at least one negative aspect. Be aware.

An excellent book covering all aspects of commercial real estate. Dominantly multi-family residential. Many enhanced checklists to follow, real life examples, and internet links for more info. I look forward to following Peter's techniques to one day be able to close large profitable deals, too!

(Hide Review...)  They are Obviously Not Commercial Real Estate Professionals

As a seasoned commercial real estate investor, let me say this is a horrendous book. Much of what they say is just plain wrong. THE REST IS FLUFF AND HYPE. It may sound good on paper but much of their advice will simply not work in the real world.

I bought this for my son to "get his feet wet" and decided to peruse it prior to giving it to him. Thank God I did! It is now in the trash can.

Additionally, much of it is just a sales plug for their other products. After reading it I doubt they are commercial real estate professionals but rather self proclaimed gurus. Those of us "in the know" see right through this book. SKIP THIS BOOK! IF I COULD RATE IT LOWER THAN A 1 I WOULD!

I love commercial real estate so I have read a lot of books. Most of them are dry and hard to read. This one spoon feeds you all the way to the end.
I recommend this book for anyone interested in investing in the wonderful world of commercial real estate. It is also a great reference book for experienced investors. It is on my shelf! Peter Conti and Peter Harris have written a great book...Good job guys! Rob from www.WealthLifelines.com

I thought this book was well written. Certainly better than most of the real estate investing books out there.

However, . . . they mention their website a few times in the book and claim to have additional materials and information available on the website that wouldn't fit in the book. When you go the website, you must put in your contact information to access these additional materials. Fair enough.

Later, you will be contacted by a "mentor," offering you the chance to join their coaching program for the bargain basement price of $9800! That's right! $9800.

Plus, as a special promotion, they will only take 50% of the first $100,000 you make in your real estate investing career. (Not sure what they do if you don't make any money.)

I was really disppointed. I thought I had finally come across a well-written book that wasn't just a come-on to get you to join a ridiculously expensive "training progran." I was wrong.

Oh, one more thing. The authors let you know that they are good Christians who give thanks to the Lord. I guess they are extremely thankful that a sucker is born every minute.

Well thought out and great presentation as everything else is that these two do or write. It is obvious that the core of the authors purpose is to educate and relate from and through their life experience. The format of the book is very accessible and easy for any reader. The content is top notch. Great job guys!

It's the best of lectures in commercial real estate. The information comes from two men who spend their life practicing what they preach. And they want to share it with you. I could have used this book long ago, but good things do come to those who wait. Its existence is timeless. I cannot phantom not being able to access this book as a serious real estate investor. It is good schooling.

(Hide Review...)  The Book I've Been Waiting For!
Reviewer Permalink
Over the years, I've read numerous real estate investing books. Starting with residential investing, I quickly realized that it was commercial investments that would provide the life I wanted. There are some good books out there, but nothing that gave me the complete picture, the entire package of information from the beginning to the end. Finally, there IS such a book. Peter Conti and Peter Harris have written it! Commercial Real Estate Investing for Dummies is by far the best book for commercial real estate investors that I have ever read.

If you study it and really take the advice to heart, you'll understand the business completely. It's written in a very readable style, so even if you're brand new to the concepts you can understand and remember them. Or, if you're a seasoned investor, you can whiz through the chapters that cover familiar ground, and spend some extra time reading the chapters that will really strike home to you. For example, the chapter, "Why Properties Fail," particularly resonated with me. I learned enough in that chapter to save me from making some common mistakes.

Commercial Real Estate Investing for Dummies is a great book. The authors' experience and knowledge is evident in every page. The book is well-organized, so you can start at the beginning as a raw newcomer, read to the end, and have an excellent foundation to begin your commercial investing. Or, you can go right to a section that interests you, such as "Kicking Your Investing into High Gear," and learn all about expert tax advantages or how to make a success out of commercial fixer-uppers.

If you're interested in commercial real estate investing, then Commercial Real Estate Investing for Dummies is the best book you can read.

Finally, a resource for doing commercial real estate! And with humor. All too often these kinds of books are dry and tough to find the info you need. This is NOT the case with Peter and Peter's book. When I got the book I needed some help on how to find private funding. I checked the table of contents and sure enough, there it was. The information was consise and very helpful with a few chuckles thown in.

They cover such a wide range of topics. Commercial real estate is frequently overwhelming, even to experienced real estate investors who have focused on single family homes. But Peter and Peter make it so clear with step by step directions that it removes the mystic.

I highly recommend this book. Remember, someone owns all those buildings, why not you?

Wiley outdid themselves with Conti and Harris writing on commercial real estate investing. There is a lot of meat between the covers that is delivered in very digestible pieces. I highly recommend the book and will use it often.

They cover every aspect of investing from start to finish in enough detail to actually put into action. Many books have left me dangling with too many gaps to fill. This book walks through each step of the process with enough content to put into practice. This is a great refresher for active investors, or a big step into the world of commercial real estate investing for beginners.

Happy Investing!

If you are interested in the field of commercial real estate then this is the book you have been waiting for. This book is not a dry tecnical how to but is enjoyable to read. It takes you through the ins and outs and ups and downs of analyzing, buying, selling, financing, managing, tax strategies of commercial real estate plus info on appraisal & realtor carrers. I just recommended this to a friend who owns severable apartment buildings that he had all in his own name. The asset protection he will learn from this book will save him a fortune. Many thanks to the authors!

This is a must read for both new and experienced commercial investors. Having read more than a dozen books on commercial real estate investing over the past few years, I can honestly say that this book rates as one of the best. This book does an excellent job of combining the most useful information in an easy to read format with lots of useful tidbits throughout. The authors go beyond summary level information about the topic and really cover important details that can be put into action right away. There is also some really helpful information accessible through a website that accompanies this book. From topics such as negotiations and property finding to raising private capital and property management, this book covers all topics a real estate investor must deal with on a daily basis to be successful. If you are new and looking to get into the investing game this is a great place to start. If you have been investing for several years the book is a great refresher.

Happy New Year 2008! Just got up my copy and I'm excited to dive right in!!! :-)

This promises to be a great book!!! Why? In another great book I read about corporations the author mentions that what makes a company great is not so much the company but rather the key people in the company...i.e. "follow the people." Likewise I know this will be a great book because of the author, Peter Harris.

Several years ago, in my struggling days as an investor in the Bay Area (San Jose/ San Francisco, CA) I've had the pleasure of knowing Peter. He had already been investing in single family homes, was trading those up into multi-units (129 total units was my last count) and then onwards to bigger commercial deals. It seemed every year I talked to Peter his investing just grew to another higher level! I knew he had "made it" when I heard a major bank had flown in one of their chief financial officers to meet with Peter and see if he'd be willing to buy one of their commercial deals that was in trouble. Prior to that Peter was successfully investing in that town buying commercial deals, turning them around and making them cash flow.

So folks, the reason this promises to be a great read is because Peter is the real deal!!! Let me not to even mention Peter's warm character, giving attitude and coaching which is full of wisdom like Yoda, the Jedi Master, or Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid. And that is a whole other topic... I'll look forward for when he writes that book as well! :-)

Peter thanks for being you...an inspiration to us all!!!

Sincerely,
Jean Nicolas

(Hide Review...)  A great reference for the beginner or seasoned investor

This book is structured to help you find, research, negotiate, finance and buy real estate of any type. In the market today, you don't want to risk not having the right information, which can be costly and drastically reduce your profit. This book is clearly laid out and includes tips from years of experience with commercial real estate and their mentorship students.

Face it, we're in this business to be profitable and reading this book will give you the insight and information to let you step ahead of other investors by providing you with a solid core education. The book begins with a good introduction and then explains how to find and contract properties that are profitable from the start with a clear exit strategy. From there, it's in depth due diligence to insure that property is still profitable and even explains how to discover hidden value during this process. The authors then take you through financing and raising capital to the day to day operations (which is where most properties fail). The final chapters discuss creating a self-sustaining investing business that not only allows you to have the wealth and protect it, but the time and freedom to enjoy it.

Overall, this book is a great reference and stepping stone to take action and start investing today or to fine tune your existing investing business and discover more wealth in your portfolio! No book is going to be a 100% bible because real-world experience is the key to learning, but this is the catalyst to get you going.
