This book series has always been stereotyped as the book that only shallow and rich girls read. Well, I am neither shallow (I hope not) nor rich (maybe in my dreams) but surprisingly, this book was strangely good.
If you read hard enough, you'll discover the message that Lisi Harrison intended to put out. It describes the trials and woes of school, peer pressure, making new friends, dealing with enemies, and just being a girl. In reality, the girls LH describes are the girls seen today. They are superficial, mean, and catty. But does one really know what goes on in their heads? The insecurities of the populars are revealed, and that is what redeems this book series. How not everyone can be perfect, but still want to act like it. LH probably wants to show girls that being popular isn't everything. That, in reality, it is the silliest thing to want to fight for. Claire was ridiculous for fighting to be friends with girls who didn't like her. Massie manipulated her friends to terrorize Claire just because she felt threatened. Really, what teenage girls would want to live like this? The author didn't want girls to model after her characters, but learn from their mistakes. But still, I think that it is a bit silly to put out a strong lesson in such an immature setting. I doubt that 7th graders live like this, try high school. The humor is a bit sappy, but the characters are all unique and represent the different kinds of obstacles that girls today face. Dylan, with her body issues. Kristen, with her poverty. Alicia, a person who is always overshadowed. Claire, a new girl who just wants to fit in. And Massie, a girl who seems perfect, but actually isn't. So when reading this book, look through the glamour and glitz and try to see the real message. That makes reading this book worthwhile, I think. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-22 07:46:03 EST)

I am an adult with a weakness for reading children's literature and I have to say that I really love this series. There are always references to designer clothes and rich lifestyles and it is a guilty pleasure to read about this. I do admit that it is rather shallow but don't take it seriously and just read it as light-hearted entertainment. Also, there is no sex and no swearing and would be completely appropriate for ages 12 and up.

This book is fun and entertaining for young adult girls who like reading about drama and fun. Massie is the "owner" of the clique and the "founder." She has three best friends Kristen- the sporty chick, Alicia- the one who wants Massie to go down, and Dylan- the one who loves to eat. They call themselves the Pretty Committee. The Pretty Comittee takes in the new girl, Claire, who is from Florida, even though she is a fashion "no-no." Read about the Pretty committee and their ups and downs in this fun series. A great summer read!

I thought this book was trulely riduculous! First of all how do 12 year old girls from a become movie stars??? I mean seriously, I have been a huge fan of these books and to be honest this was the worst one. First of all, when Massie and Alicia sneak into Claires trailor to make her seem as a disgusting person....HOW DID THEY GET IN!!! And what 21..20 year old movie star get close to a 12 YEAR OLD GIRL!!! Seriously I like these books for being maybe true and that some people may be like this. But I found it very hard to believe that this would really happen, even to snobby, rich...12 YEAR OLDS!!!

Massie Block is the all popular ruler of the ever so exclusive Octavian Country day school. With Dylan Marvil, Alicia Rivera, and Kristen Gregory by her side she always gets what she wants! Claire Lyons is the naive newcomer on the scene who is staying in Massie's family's guesthouse for the time being. When Massie decides that Claire and her keds are so not Pretty Committee worthy, Claire finds herself deep into a bad situation with Massie. Her new life battling Massie ranges from getting red paint spilled on her, getting salt tossed on her and many other things, but everyboby scores a point sometime! When you read the clique by Lisi Harrison you'll discover what it takes for Claire to sneakily pull Massie's sidekicks onto her side!

This book starting interesting but then after a while it became too fake. Nothing like this happens. There are no schools like OCD and no one is this obsessed with their social status. -- Laura, 14
I am Laura's tutor and I agree -- it became overdone, exaggerated, and a little too much. But it was funny sometimes to read about how the extreme wealthy live and how lost they get in the material world. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-28 06:51:58 EST)

The characters in this book are spiteful, manipulative, and shallow. But even worse than that, I feel sorry for them, and sorry for any girl who feels like she has to be fake in order to have friends. How terrible that people won't like them for who they really are.. and how awful that must feel to think that one wrong move and your best friend is now your worst enemy. The author of these books has glorified being cruel and encouraged young girls to be scared of who they are. What a heartbreaking message to send girls as they try to discover who they are. Being kind, compassionate, funny, adventurous -these are the sorts of things that maintain a friendship. Under all the glam and the glitz, Massie's character seems so lonely. She is afraid to be real with her friends, her family, and herself. Girls thinking of buying this book: you are better than this. Love yourself enough to be proud of who you are and read books that encourage you to be the incredible girl you are! Parents, if you love your daughter, pay her not to read this.

I thought this book was great! I'm in 7th grade too. I thought this book had as much drama as regular school! It was interesting and I felt the characters emotions. I tried not to read it too fast. That took a lot of will power!
I read some other reviews before I ordered this book. I read a 1 star review that said, "What 7th grade girl buys designer clothes or hand bags." Umm a lot of people do. And she also said, "a normal 7th grade girl wears keds and overalls." I don't even know wat keds are! (she is the reason I bought this book!) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-22 06:39:58 EST)

The Clique is a story about five girls: Massie, the ruler of The Clique and the rest of the social scene; Dylan, Massie's second in command who is always kissing up to Massie or drinking Atkin's diet shakes; Alicia who's sneaky and beautiful but seems so "sweet" to adults that they never suspect her; and Kristen who will insult you to tears so easily and has a secret that not even Massie knows; Claire who's the new girl in GAP overalls that clearly does not fit in with the Clique but happens to be living in Massie's guesthouse while her parents hunt for a job.
This book describes Claire's struggles to be friends with Massie, the evilness of Massie and her clique, and how easily the friends will turn on each other. I found this book to be well written but not the best in the world. The characters are stuck-up, snotty, and rich which is something I can't relate to. However, Claire is someone I can relate to because she's trying to fit in with the "in" crowd, even though she's not rich or dressed in the hottest trends. I would suggest this to my friends but only if they wanted a light read. I do plan on reading the rest of the series, if only to find out what happens to Claire and whether or not Massie is overthrown. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-17 18:35:46 EST)

Unfortunately these books celebrate the worst in our socieity. Consumerism and shallowness run rampant. The characters in these books have party planners and limos; they lose their Gucci wallets when they switch from their Prada bag to their Vitton bag. They believe they have absolute authority to judge others. I could accept these books if the characters would experience some type of growth or epiphany at the conclusion, but they just go on to spread more hate and discontent. These books condone and encourage in worst in our society. The author clearly cares only for increasing her balance sheet and not at all for her readers.

This is an interesting story and is written in a way that most can relate to. Massie and Claire's love/hate relationship seems about right for their ages. Everything is such extremes at that age. Their obsession with fashion is a little disconcerning, but one only has to watch that MTV show Sweet Sixteen to know the author is probably not too far off the mark. I was surprise to read that Chris and Layne has attended the OCD aution before-and yet he'd never met Massie prior to begining of the book. Nor did he offer up any up explanation for flirting and seeing Massie when he had a girlfriend. If Mr. Block had the tendency to get drunk, I'm surprised Massie didn't already have an escape plan routed. Small stuff-nothing that took away from my overall enjoyment of the book.

This book is good for our age. The three reasons are it is so interesting for our age because of how we can relate to it, this is the book when they get to go to Hollywood, also how they live or how their life style is. I would give the book and the series five stars because I can relate to these books more than any other book I have read. I would recomend this book and the series to earlier teenaged girls (12 years and older) who would like to read these kind of books. I hope I convinced everyone to read Dial L for Loser because it is amazing.

Out of all of the Clique Series books, I think this is the best one! Massie Block, Kristen Gregory, Alicia Rivera, Dylan Marvil, and Claire Lyons all just got suspended from Octavian Day Country School and they have nothing to do.
Dylan's mother hosts a television show called The Daily Grind and Dylan got all of her friends to be a VIP on the show. The guests on the show for that week were two very famous movie stars, Hadley and Abby. In the bathroom Dylan decided to tell all of the girls a very big secret. The secret was about Hadley and Abby. When Massie, Kristen, Alicia, Dylan, and Claire were all in the bathroom the co-host for the show, was in there as well, but she had a microphone on so everybody in the audience and on set heard Dylan tell the secret! Hadley heard the secret and decided that she did not want to be in the same movie as Abby anymore, so her part (the nerdy girl) was up for auditions. So Massie, Alicia, and Claire all go to Hollywood to try to get the part. I think that this book is a great book for girls ages ten through twenty-two. To find out who gets the part, you have to read the book! I love this book and I think that everyone should read it. -Ally Wofford (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-22 19:58:04 EST)

Have you ever wanted to read a book about real life situations and about what's going on in the world right now? If you do then Sealed with a Diss is perfect for you. It gives you a first hand look into the world of a clique. You won't be disappointed if you read this book. I'm sure you will love it!
In Sealed with a Diss, by Lisi Harrison, the Pretty Committee gets the key to the secret room that they shed blood, sweat, and mascara for. Then they figure out that before they can get the key they need to get hot dates to Skye Hamilton's big party. They also have to get Chris Abeley to be Skye's date for the party. If they don't get dates and get Chris to be Skye's date then the room will be taken away forever. While the other girls are finding dates Claire finds out that she might not be the only girl in Cam's life. Massie also finds out that Derrington is hiding something too. The secret room leads to more and more trouble. To find out what happens read the book. I love this book because it keeps you guessing the whole time. You never know what might happen. You'll be asking so many questions in your head about what is going to happen the whole time while you're reading. There are so many cliffhangers that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the ending. It wasn't one of the best cliffhangers and it didn't really leave me wanting more or wanting to read the next book right away. I hope you enjoy the book! I know I did and I'm sure you will too. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-06 19:54:08 EST)

I am a 14 year old girl and love these books. But this books was too rushed. Massie breaks up with Derrington and Claire breaks up with Cam. Alicia is the only one crush happy. Kristen and Dylan have no bf, yet again. There is a huge Cliffhanger at the end of the book, and it seriously made me cry. This book may be good to read for car trips, but the other 7 are better.

I loved this book, but I hated the fact that it ended like it did and the next one doesn't come out til next year. That sux! But the book itself was )as most cliques are) drama filled and intense. The life of an alpha is so not as great as it seems. And the poor girls and their crushes I mean you have GOT to feel sorry for them.
This story takes you on a journey that ended quite abrubtly, and will begin again in February 2008!!! Man I can't wait!!!!!♥ (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-09-11 07:40:54 EST)

I have really enjoyed ALL of the books in the Clique series. I am a middle school teacher, and have shared my love of reading with many girls via the Clique books. These books are perfect for a hesistant reader- they are so engaging and fun to read. They are also age-appropriate, unlike some other series that are marketed to young girls.
Massie and the Pretty Committee do not disappoint in the 8th book of this series. The dialog is snappy as always, and left me looking forward to the 9th book! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-17 16:57:17 EST)

Dial L for Loser was simply atrocious, so when I picked up Sealed With a Diss, I had very low hopes. After all, I am a devoted fan of the Clique series, but they were becoming steadily unrealistic and boring. I mean, Claire became the lead role of a major Hollywood production? I don't think so. Another thing, these girls act like their eighteen years old, when in fact they have just graduated the seventh grade.
So, I picked up Sealed With a Diss wearily, sure that it would be the last Clique book I would ever read. But I actually found this book to be much more enjoyable than all the previous ones. For once, the Pretty Committee didn't get everything they wanted. For once, they even doubted themselves. They were confused and lost in the world of boys. I especially enjoyed the surprise ending. I am actually looking forward to the next book - what's in store for the coed eighth grade? I admit that I do not like Skye's character at all. She is completely unbelievable and I found myself wanting to fast-forward the parts featuring this eighth grade Alpha. And the DSL Daters? Is Lisi Harrison serious? Cliques don't actually name themselves in real life. And if they did, no one would ever claim the name DSL Daters. Ew. It's true, the book was a little slow in parts. But this eighth novel is grabbing and interesting with a fresh plot. For awhile I believed Harrison was losing her creativity and running out of ideas, but this book shows she is back and ready to write more. Still, I hope she doesn't end up writing so many books that she kills the series. Good luck all you readers. Enjoy. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-31 07:20:56 EST)

i was a little scared to read this book to tell ya the truth. All the girls in my school were reading it. and i was like. yeah im NEVER going to read it.
Then one day this girl shoved the first book in my hand and i was HHOOOOKKKEDD!!! But anyways. enough of my story. This book i would have to say is the best, although if it was real life. i think i would have handled the boy situations a little rougherr [if thats even a word] but thats the only down side for me. this book had me once i read the first sentence. i saw it in the bookstore and i couldnt wait to go home and read it. it took me 2 hours to finish it. since it was so compelling. there were a lot of problems in this book and an amazing SURPRISE ending. that i would have NEVER guessed. In this book the girls have to learn a little more a bout guys and there approaching strategies. i love this book it IS AMAZING! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-26 01:13:34 EST)

Massie and her friends are at it again! After the never ending search for the key, she finally gets access to the room... under one condition. Massie must get Skye the one thing she can't have, Chris Abeley. The Pretty Committee must also have dates to Skye's graduation party, or else, they will be forever known as The Cheetah Girls, but thanks to ESP, they can fix that in a second! Will Massie, Alicia, Dylan, Claire and Kristen be able to get Skye her date, get their dates, and have access to the room? Well you'll have to read the book to find out!

Honestly, when i read the first few clique books i hated the series, until sealed with a diss. It completly fliped my hate to love. SWD has got to be the best one written. The way it depicts how someone can be "in" one moment and "out" the next is very real in teen society today (or at least where i live). I love how it does have a real moral behind the story, and it is not just a completly mindless novel. I recommend this novel to anyone that has started the clique series!
(sorry for the bad spelling, but it is late and i am tired !) =) (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-17 01:13:30 EST)

When I started reading these books I was thrilled by them. As weird as this may sound I loved how shallow everything was, and how the pressures of the real world didn't seem to exist for these girls. I eagery devoured books 1-5, enjoying each one.
Books 6, 7, and 8 are a different story. Lisi Harrison is an amazing writer, but suddenly, everything that makes this book seem likable is vanishing. The "real fiction" quality that these books once had are gone. Now Harrison is going into Secret Rooms, which I find kind of unrealistic. In this book, the 8th grader Skye shows girls the secret room, and makes a deal with Massie to get Chris Abeley to come to her famous couples party, or Massie and the others will be revoked from the room. This book was slightly better than the previous two, but its sad to see a great series going down hill. The end is great though. The author never fails to surprise us in this series. this book is good for teen girls. it is a bit to mature for anyone under 13. Also, before you read the books you have to know that just because they are mean and say mean things does not give you the right to say stuff like that! everyone will hate you, one of the girls in my class tried that and she found out that it dosent work.

As he was telling me about this, I could not believe what I was hearing. For one, this is a girly book, second of all, it is inapropriate, especially for a child, as the constantly glorify early relationships, making out, and even make references to oral sex. And third of all, he told me of the awkwardness of reading this aloud, especially with the references to sex, girls complaining of being "too flat," and references to the girls' first periods, all this attributed to the horribly awkward book, and inapropriate at that. Before letting your child read this, I would suggest you read it before hand, and decide for yourself if it is appropriate for your kid.

DIAL L FOR LOSER
LISI HARRISON Dial L For Loser is a great teen read. It starts off with the girls just hanging out and talking about going to Hollywood to see the stars of a new movie called Dial L For Loser. But Dylan and Kristen (2 Clique members) are stuck at home after being grounded because they were expelled from ODC (Octavian Country Day--Middle School). So Massie (the leader of the Clique) and Claire (trying hard to impress the Clique) beg and finally get granted the permission to go, along with Alicia (a Clique member). When they get to Hollywood they cause a ruckus and make one of the actresses quit. Then they start auditioning for the movie, and Claire gets the part. So out of jealousy, Massie and Alicia play mean tricks on Claire. But while Claire is acting Miss Hollywood, she finds out that there is trouble ahead of her at home. This realistic fiction book grabs you and won't let you stop reading! I love how this book tells a real story about girls that are about my age and what they are going through. This book also has lots of cliff hangers and is hard to put down! The only bad thing about this book is that these girls are in 7th grade and some of the stuff that happens doesn't seem realistic for a 7th grader. The author, Lisi Harrison has also written many other books including The Clique, Best Friends for Never, Revenge of the Wannabes, Invasion of the Boy Snatchers, and the Pretty Committee Strikes Back.
