Very Helpful Books

The Cisco Exam Certification books by Cisco Press are the only books that I use when studying for the exam. The "Do I know this already" questions help you gauge how much time you need to spend on any given chapter and the practice tests included on the CDs are very similar to test questions. I have yet to fail a test using this method *knocks on wood*.

the book CCNP ISCW is lacking

I could not believe when I opening the box with my order and I evidenced that it was lacking a book (CCNP ISCW-642-825 Implementing Secure Convergerd Wide Area Networks, it had in its place two books CCNP BCMSN.

how this is possible?

Very detailed

I am a project manager for IT projects and I have limited experience with network product configuration and implementation from a hands-on perspective. I bought these books after passing the CCNA exam using the same series of books for the CCNA exam. The first book that I have read, BCMSN, has been easy to follow and I understand all the topics presented with my limited configuration experience. I'll know for sure if the book is a good representation of the material on the exam after I take the exam.

Good set of books

Monotonous

Unfortunately I would not recommend this book for people (like me) who do not have the advantage of working on or access to Cisco equipment, but are trying to learn more and hopefully get a certification in the process. It may be a good reference set but I gave up after 3 weeks of reading the BSCI book and went and bought the Sybex BSCI instead which I am already enjoying a lot more.

One of the first problems I had with this book was that there are no hands on router simulations and hence no practical exercises meaning you have to basically try to memorise lots of commands without the practical experience. I also found the book very impersonal, which may sound strange. It just seemed to be continuously presenting facts, which after a while makes very tedious reading.

I guess if your job involves working on Cisco equipment on a daily basis then these books are probably a good reference for studying for you exam. This is the first time I've given up on a book and I've read quite a few books over the years to get various other certifications.

I have began to read BSCi book, and i had found some mistakes in the answers in books and exam simulator. The book is so simple and doesn't have much detail, so readers have to have some knowledges. But, my score for this book is good.

Cisco has the best exam cert. guides.

This is an excellent buy for getting the complete CCNP exam prep books. It would cost significantly more to buy them individually.

The books have been updated for the new tests. The BCMSN covers Wifi theory very well, but it is lacking in the "practical" aspect. I.e. the actual test had questions regarding more specific Cisco wireless products that the BCMSN book did not contain. The BSCI is quite good. I can not comment on the other two (ONT and ISCW because I have not read them yet.) However, the topics covered look really interesting.

What is especially great about these products is that they include some study software. I personally find this invaluable. This is the deciding factor between buying the Authorized Self-Study versus the Exam Prep books.

Some of the examples in the books have errors, which can cause some confusion. This is normal Cisco Press behavior. Also, some of the examples appear to differ from the text. Sadly, Cisco's product line is similar; some features are available in some versions, and not in others. So, this is kind of a real-world example of what Cisco products are like.

All in all, I really like these books. I find them much more useful than the competitors offerings; especially the exam prep software.
