This book begins with an 11 page introduction, in which 9 uses of 'Catastrophe' are used (however, sadly, he failed to correct his own use of 'disastrous', which could've easily been reworked into 'catastrophic') to describe the administration of the Obama Presidency ... 3 months in (this book, as he says, went into production in April).
Much of the information he presents is contradicted only a few pages later (see remarks on Japanese economy in first chapter for an example) - part of the fun. If the screaming neon orange cover doesn't bring you in, then the overarching feeling of "We have been right all along; we knew that Obama was going to kill the economy & turn socialist - look look! Our old books made a vague prediction and we were partly correct!" should sucker anyone who cracks open the book and reads this dribble. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself so far as I'm not particularly taking it seriously. 5 stars for insanity! (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-08-13 13:40:37 EST)

You can sum this book up with very few words, "Right-wing Propaganda." The authors' attempt at scaring the public is outright deplorable. The policies they criticize were necessary to keep this country from drifting into the worst depression since the `30s. They failed to point out as in the `30s depression this one was brought on by Republican policies. They also fail to mention that President Bush nationalized Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae before leaving office and he poured hundreds of billions of dollars into the banking system. The bottom-line is this book is a very bias fictional depiction of our current situation. If you choose to purchase this publication, please keep in mind you are buying a book of fanciful fiction.

There is a lot of very interesting information in this book. Dick Morris did an
excellent job of presenting it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-08-13 08:09:49 EST)

The socialism bit is particularly tedious. As someone who grew up during the socialist years in the UK (pre-Thatcher,) it's idiotic to say Obama and his crew are socialists. Not even close to being socialists....(not even a tad.) Thank God for it too.
If you really want to see what a socialist will do, look up Tony Benn or Neil Kinnock on google. Anyway, I'm really fed up with these hyperbole-ridden books. Can't anyone just do careful insightful analysis anymore without resorting to "the end of the world is here" tactics. Just tiresome, and grating on the intelligence. I have read all of Dick Morris's books over the years, as well as many other author's views. Dick Morris has the uncanny knack of "pegging" the outcome of current decisions in how they will affect the future. Dick was dead spot on in "Fleeced", had his projections for the outcome of current administration's decisions in his latest book- "Catastrophe", and how American's who care about our country are responding to the latest threat to our democracy and freedoms.
As Paul Revere sounded the alarm: "The British are coming", so to does Dick Morris and Eileen McCann sound the alarm: "The Socialist are here". This book crosses the lines of political party and calls out to American's to wake up and be counted to defend our freedoms, against anti-American ideology. A great, yet most disturbing read. Hats off to two great American's (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-08-13 08:09:49 EST)

Dick Morris can tell us from the inside just what's going on. I am not finished reading it yet but it is a must read if you want to know what's in store if we don't make a move now to restore our democracy. We Americans have sat back too long and let things happen. It has now caught up with us.

This is a great analysis of the chaos going on in our country today. The book was published early this year and Dick predicts and explains much of the problems that are facing Americans currently. The book is easy to understand, even without a political or business background. Afterall, the issues that he discusses affect all Americans no matter your socioeconomic status. Highly recommended

This is (obviously) a timely book, but there was still the unavoidable delay between finishing the actual writing of the book, and printed copies showing up for sale in bookshops. And, during that short period of time, the looming catastrophe began running into serious trouble. Frankly, if we add up actual dollars spent so far (as opposed to the mayhem planned for the future), it's not TOO bad. Only 15-20% of that so-called "stimulus" money has been spent. Cap-and-trade version I was an economic disaster, so it was amended to the perfectly awful pork-laden cap-and-trade version II, which now languishes in limbo. The HUGE deal, of course, was trying to shove socialized medicine down the throats of the American people --- and the results of that are on the news every night.
Therefore, I feel a little bit relieved that people are finally waking up and giving battle. The catastrophe does not seem quite as inevitable as it did when Morris & McGann were writing this book. But the current administration is now running scared, and lashing out randomly at people it deems to be enemies. (By the way, as of August 7th, 2009, that enemy was no longer "Wall Street bankers." It was "health insurance companies." This is all stupidity out of the playbook by Saul Alinsky. Ho, ho. I imagine Rush Limbaugh in the role of Patton, shouting out, "Rommel!! I read your book!!!" :-) ) Still, this is hardly the time to kick back and relax our vigilance. There is still a group of cunning men in Washington who are doing their best to change the United States of America beyond recognition. This book provides a lot of the details. I have also ordered "Culture of Corruption" and await its arrival with impatience. You know, most people still don't grasp the nature of this administration. They came in on a big white horse, playing "Hope & Change Forever," and unfortunately a lot of people never stopped to realize that "Hope" does nothing, and "Change" is not always "Change for the Better." Now we're getting a taste of Chicago politics in Washington. That's surely a "change." But so is getting hit by a truck. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-08-13 08:09:49 EST)

The book is worth while especially for those who are not conversant with the Conservative point of view on Health Care and other issues.
Section I "How Obama is Causing a Catastrophe" is excellent. It clearly outlines the pitfalls in this President's Health Care Agenda. This section is a must read for everyone. Section II and Section III, however, are not relevant to the well read Conservative. We Conservatives know the content of sections II and III by heart! Nevertheless, I must compliment the co-authors on their meticulous research and data gathering which unquestionably exposes the corruption that exists in our government today. For the non-Conservatives, these sections would be meaningful to read because it may enlighten them to join the Conservative movement. Respectfully submitted, Dan Mena, Ed.D (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-08-13 08:09:50 EST)

This detailed book about the insiders to Obama's new socialist regime, their interests, their secular sanctimony towards the non-scientific masses, goes together with Angelo Codevilla's analysis of Western regimes worldwide in 'The Character of Nations'.
Senators, the Obama clique, the above-the-law bureaucrats and lobbyists... all partners in crime are scrutinized here in clear and direct language. With names, dates and amounts. This book is the politically-insider version of Thomas E. Woods' more economically-minded 'Meltdown', and so you see not only the strings being pulled and the consequences in the US economy, but by whom, and you also see the fine tapestry of shared interests that make up America's elite: Those who decide who's in and who's out of the regime. Republicans' silence and fear to speak up (and so be ostracized) is only a testimony to the irretrievable power of the liberal class (in politics and in the media, since they go hand in hand). Don't let a good crisis go to waste, that Obama's perfidious motto. America, you are not citizens anymore, you don't belong in your own country, now you are serfs again. America has come full circle. Dick Morris always seems to be in such a rush to publish his material that the text editing leaves bad gaps and gaffes. The reason most readers need to forgive him is that his material truly is important, and is urgent in time. Happily, the editing this time is vastly improved. The reader will find blips like a decimal-point miscalculation late in the book, for example; most are small like this one.
"Catastrophe" is even more loaded with detail than his earlier books. Consider these two accomplishments: Mr. Morris posted the line items, with costs for each, from the recent budget which few in congress read before voting on; and in the appendix, the same for the TARP (bailout). The budget list took a dozen pages single-spaced, and the TARP a dozen and a half pages! These are worth scanning to see what $$$ went where. Also, the chapters on Ted Kennedy Jr., Senator Chris Dodd, and various lobbyists describe in embarrassing detail the real estate and financial shenanigans famous personages were discovered to be fiddling with. We get the impression that even this perfidy shows only the top of the dirty pile. Overall, though, the author strongly wants to show the increasing takeover of ordinary life by the central government in such areas as salaries, car choices, health care and insurance, among others. His prescriptions for action at the end of each chapter are mostly expected stuff, and the reader supposes the real intent is for public information, and for calling one's congressperson! The chapter about Shariah involvement in and interference with the U.S. banking system may need more work on the author's part, because as bad as this picture he paints, we still are not sure how serious the problem is. Dick Morris writes like he talks. This is good, because he uses familiar, concrete language to explain his points and reasoning. Even if you do not like the author, this is definitely a recommended reading. If you are in this category, the get "Catastrophe" to prepare your counterarguments! I always look forward to Dick Morris, eagerly awaiting his television appearances & books. After reading of the horror stories during the Bush administration in "Outage" & "Fleeced" I have come to appreciate his fair and balanced perspective. In this book he calls our current march to socialism and new radical political zeitgeist a catastrophe.
My favorite part of the book is the first chapter, "Obama's War On Prosperity". In it he describes Obama as a socialist with his efforts to raise public sector spending as a percent of GDP to that of leftist European countries. It is obvious that Obama has a desire to bring about a cradle-to-grave social welfare system which earns him that title. Also in this chapter he provides examples of the dismal history of Keynesian economics of which the Obama's stimulus bill is based. Apparently this failed policy just hasn't been tried enough by the right people to make it work, just like all other collectivist plans. This is just the beginning of numerous examples of political abuse noted in this book and as in his other works he names name of those bad actors regardless of political affiliation. Dick Morris upsets many people however I find his observations & opinions to be topical, well reasoned & worthy of discussion. The "Action Agenda" notes provided at the end of each chapter makes one realize that they are not alone in changing this catastrophic path. I would suggest this book to anyone who also appreciates such efforts. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-08-13 08:09:50 EST)

Catastophe spells out the direction this administration is headed. It will destroy what was once a great country if we don't take action. The author explains what we all know we need to do, but have been on the sidelines, until now!

I have just finished this book and have learned so much about what is really going on in our government. It is scary that there is very little oversight and the people do not know what their government is really doing behind the scenes. It makes me angry that we are being taken advantage of. We need to take our government back and return it to the way our founding fathers wanted it. This book tells what is going on and how we can change it. Thank you Dick for informing us and helping us do something about it.

Someone needs to be reminded that Dick is no longer relevant, at any level, to anyone.
Writing a book and betting that the odds are 50-50 you will be right does not count as economic or political insight. Someone needs to deflate their ego (and bloated face) just a bit, and take a step away from the keyboard. Your "Priamry Color" may now be red, but your angst goes wherever the wind blows and it simply is not to be trusted. The biggest "Catastrophe" in this book is the waste of paper product and ink. In a world where the media is clearly in the tank for the administration (for now) books like this are a golden key to see clearly into the real agenda. Dick was part of the Clinton machine and he uses that background to see the future. A future of liberal give away programs that numb our country's drive for greatness. This book made me realize that we do have a chance. It also gave me insight that I can use to pressure my congressmen to stick to his conservative promises.

This is not a review of the book as much as my opinion of it.
I am neither rich nor poor. Nor am I a democrat or republican. I am simply someone who has seen the country move drastically to the extreme left in both actions and future plans. This move sickens me yet I remain silent. It frightens me while I look the other way. Thank goodness for writers like Morris and McCann. In Catastrophe, they point out the obvious in a glaring, horn-tooting fashion; making it impossible to not miss the big picture. Every section of the book taught me a new item that I did not know about. And while, much of the book must surely be hyperbole, it is worrisome that large parts may not be. No matter your ideological leaning, you should read this book, do your own research, and then decide if this is the change we really need. I fear that once we go down this road, we will lose our map for the way back. This year I have read and also enjoyed these books. (Reminder that enjoy does not equate to total agreement) Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative ManifestoGuilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America Glenn Beck's Common Sense: The Case Against an Out-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine I hope you find this review helpful. Isn't Fox News one of the the conspirators responsible for the very distortions and mess - years of marinating outhouse distortions and mess - for which Obama and the suffering USA majority (and world), that is aware of the dire need of correction, must suffer veiled attacks after only seven months of of attempting to right at least eight years of most obvious "bad roading."
I cannot help believing that much of the Obama-bashing has more to do with maintenance of the pretenses that the USA is color-blind and as caring of the poor, the middle-class, and those needing health care assistance as the privileged, platinum-spooned criminals. I think many of these bashers steer just a hair's diameter away from what is thought and spoken of in homologous groupings behind locked doors. They cannot bear to remain peaceful nor are they brave enough to truly speak their minds - perhaps, just call a spade a spade. This is so played out and tired. But, like I said, Fox News says it all. Have you ever visited a communist country? I have. No food on the shelves in the cities. Checkpoints on all the roads leading into the city to prevent farmers from bringing the food they grew on their own little plot of land around their house to the town to sell. The 3% of the farmland that is privately owned producing over 50% of the crops. Ration coupons good for 8 gallons of gasoline PER MONTH in a country that exports oil. Getting up in the middle of each night to cook your food because they only allow you 2-3 hours of natural gas per day, so you have to cook your food for the day while you heat your home at night. Some government official deciding whether you deserve to get medical care that you need, and when you no longer merit being kept alive. Someone listening to every word you speak, reading your email, tracking your internet use, listening to your cell phone calls, tracking your every movement and purchase. When a government takes over all the industries such as banks, cars, medicine and energy, when they turn public schools into centers for political indoctrination and no values, when they pass an unconstitutional Patriot Act to allow themselves to spy on you without warrant, when they spend far more money than they have to destroy the value of the dollar and enslave you - that's called communist dictatorship. If you think that is a good idea, ask any Russian citizen who lived under that idiocy during the period 1917 to 1991, or anyone who lived in a country under Russian control in that era. Then educate yourself by reading the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Compare what those documents say to what our government is doing. Then read Morris' book.

Socialism! Boogey, boogey, boogey... Nothing is wrong with democratic socialist government. Silly people, grow up and see that you are fighting against your own best interests. Socialism is not anti-freedom. Anti-freedom is when your liberty is compromised because your government is working for big business and lobbyist instead of you. Anti-freedom is when a health crisis bankrupts your family and your government is not making medical insurance available. Anti-freedom is when you government takes away your privacy. Anti-freedom is not having reproductive choices. Anti-freedom is not being able to be an openly gay or an atheist in this country without problems. Anti-freedom is being taxed at a higher rate than the wealthiest Americans. Open your eyes, drop this book in the wood chipper and think for yourselves!
While you are at it, read up on [...] past to see what kind of individual he is... backstabbing, self-promoting, law-breaking piece o'scat. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-27 01:27:24 EST)

I am so sick of people like President Obama showing up and saying that poor people need health care, and trying to reign in bonuses for the super rich. I preferred President Bush- he made sure that 40% of all tax cuts went to the rich. Millionaires shouldt pay taxes- they are for poor people, duh. And putting regulations on pollution that companies produce is a big mistake. CO2 isnt even dangerous- I like warm weather and I hate rain and I happen to like malaria carrying bugs- They are cute. Man Obama gets me so steamed. Hes a gay lover. They shouldnt be allowed to marry. And labor laws are a lie. If a CEO wants to pay an employee 2 cents an hour, thats his right. Lets destroy OSHA too. If workers cant afford their own safety gear, they shouldnt be allowed to work. I'm tired of paying for freeloaders and abortions. God bless America.

Courageously written, and only one year after 'Fleeced', 'Catastrophe' is a complete unmasking of Obama's plan to take America on the fastest lane to Socialism. If you became disinterested because you thought there was no big difference between the parties lately, this book will shake you out of your apathy. It will help you understand the real and almost unstoppable dangers we are facing presently, and incite you to act - peacefully - but renounce your inaction to protect America.
Dick Morris reveals the radical agenda of our new president and his hurry to fast-forward U.S.A. so far to the Left that we will never be able to undo his legacy. Each major policy is smartly exposed in concise chapters, all ending with an Action paragraph, advising on the necessary steps to take to defend America. How do we fight back? We could wait for the 2010 elections when all House of Representative and a third of the Senate seats become up for grabs, but it may be too late because by then Obama might pass the bulk of his major changes, and we could end up with decades of cleaning up the mess. So, if you want to continue the free market capitalist experiment that made America the best place on Earth, Dick Morris is suggesting to go now after the moderate Democrats in Congress - those who do not feel they must depend on the Democratic Party's financing their future campaigns for re-election. They tend to be the same guys who feel they have some debt to the constituents who entrusted them with the job. To get updates of the fight to protect our way of life, go to [...] and join the peaceful resistance and oppose the destruction of America. In the first chapter of this book, Dick Morris is pointing to the money parked on the sidelines of the economy. A lot. Between October 2008 and March 2009 the supply of money grew by... 271 %. There is no inflation yet, because the money is 'parked' in coffers of many financial institutions, but it will come out quickly at the first real signs of economic recovery. Then the Fed will need a big mop to clean up the excess liquidity, because too much cash will chase too few products and it will spell i-n-f-l-a-t-i-o-n. I loved the chart of Total Government Spending as a Percentage of GDP. Sweden heads the list at 57% with France following at 54%, the most Socialist in the Western World. United States, still the most capitalist among all stood at 36.4 %. But this will be changed once Obama completes his Stimulus package, Supplemental Appropriations and Health Care spending. It does not take an expert to figure out that the Stimulus package does not stimulate. Obama is going on the route of his idol, FDR, making the same mistakes by adopting the Keynesian economics. But Obama is more arrogant then FDR so he adds his own mistakes to the classic mix. His trash-talking the economy is like yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater, scaring people into stampeding into a panic-driven recession. He is sending doubts about the currency all around the globe, starts the class warfare between tax payers and tax eaters. Benjamin Franklin's old lament that the only two things you can't avoid are 'death and taxes' no longer applies today, because half of the American population escapes without paying a dime in income taxes. In chapter 2, we read about the biggest panhandlers: AIG, Citigroup, BOA/Merrill Lynch, JPMorgan/Chase, Wells Fargo/Wachovia, GM, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, etc., about the thirteen steps to doom on how the catastrophe started, and the Obama's plan for government takeover of Banks: get all banks take TARP money, don't let them give it back, make them obey federal regulations, make them pass a 'stress test', make them raise more capital, swap the TARP debt with common stock, use the voting power to run the banks, use the leverage of the banks to run the economy and establish Socialism. As of now, the U.S. financial system is de facto nationalized. The only issue remaining is whether banks and financial institutions should be nationalized de jure. Will Obama clean the banks and sell them off as the Swedes did? Or would he use them as tools to manage an increasingly socialist economy? Our elected officials are not bankers, and if they will stay in control they will get it wrong. Solution? Vote out the Democrats in the 2010 election. In chapter 3, you could benefit from Obama's mortgage rescue plan only if you can squeeze through the following eligibility standards: your lender wants to participate, if your loan is insured or owned by Freddie or Fannie, if you have a job, if the loan is not worth more than your home, if you are a borrower in good standing and if it's your primary residence. Chapter 4 may be the scariest one and, you probably guessed it, is about Obama's National Health Care. The only thing that makes the plan possible is rationing of health care. Without enough doctors and nurses to go around the Government bureaucrats will make the decisions, and one of those decisions will be to give care to some and deny it to others. The sure victims of Obama's plan will be the elderly and the sickest. The sure beneficiaries will be: the poor, the newly legalized illegal immigrants and those who will continue to represent Obama's constituency. You will dissipate your reservations when reading the paragraphs on the Canadian system, some of its sordid tales and how Obama will bring it here. Chapter 5, Obama's Blueprint for Political Domination is breaking it down into four-part plan to create a national political realignment: legalize as many illegals as possible, control the census and cook the numbers of the poor to get extra seats in the House of Representatives and add more blue to the Electoral College, change the unions election rules to make them depend on the Democrats as much as possible, and use the FCC to muzzle conservative talk radio. If you were scared to death of the National Health Care intended changes, the 'political realignment' chapter will make your blood boil. In chapter 6, Obama declares the end of the War on Terror and nominates his left wing radical friends to head the national security and in chapter 7, he sends a billion dollar of your tax dollars as aide to Hamas! In the second and third part of the book, Dick Morris exposes the corruption of the Congressmen Christopher Dodd and Charles Rangel, the Kennedys, Tom Daschle, Bob Livingston, Matthew Nugen, and what drives them to serve Obama. He continues with the corruption of other politicians and the effects on our own morale and the stress on our military. Not long ago I read Cleon Skousen's 'The 5,000 Year Leap'. I was remembering when John Page wrote to Jefferson: "a spirit of public virtue may transcend every private consideration" or that without virtue and morality the Constitution the Founders had written and the republican system of government which is provided could not be maintained. A book like 'Catastrophe' could only be written in America, for now. But I start having doubts it will still be possible in a few years... Reagan was right when he said that the Government was the problem and not the solution to the America's ills. Obama's Government will upgrade the problem to Catastrophe. Dick and partner have written a gem of an eye-opener in a very direct, sincere and astute way. He explains the 'man behind the curtain'(Obama) and his true objectives, without the veneer of hype and hope which is leading America down a dangerous primrose path. Aside from the scathing and truthful criticism, that the rest of the media seems to be side-stepping, Morris helps to rationalize in a succinct way WHY Americans should be up in arms and how to oppose this jaggernaut. 2010 is looming ahead and if people heed Morris' warnings and turn the body politic toward the center or right again, and dethrone Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, we might be in far better shape than we are now.
If nothing else, if you are an Obamabot, read the unfiltered explanation of recent history which might get you to see George W Bush in a brand new and less harsh light. I recommend this reading to all who want to understand, who support Obama without balanced critique, and for all those who just smell smoke and wonder if we are on fire........ When I first saw the title of this book and the author's name, I thought it must surely by his autobiography, detailing the many times he has played the role of turncoat. Unfortunately, it would be difficult to trust the veracity of anything this author said or wrote considering his reputation for pandering. I found the book to be lacking in credibility. His arguments lack focus and he is too obvious in his intent to smear.

If you want to learn much more about America, then read "THE ROAD TO AMERICA'S MELTDOWN," by RAYMOND BERESFORD HAMILTON. This guy is an American soldier and he nails it for us in this book. Hamilton himself was caught up in the criss and decided to do his own investigation into the causes of the crisis and the government's involvement in it. I learned so much about America from reading this book, I have to thank Mr Hamilton for his efforts and if this book is not on the best sellers list by the end of this year then the American people are not reading the right books. This book tells it like it is.

And his SECOND hit job already on Barack Obama, the first being "Fleeced: How Barack Obama, Media Mockery of Terrorist Threats, Liberals Who Want to Kill Talk Radio, the Self-Serving Congress, Companies That Help Iran, and Washington Lobbyists for Foreign Governments are scamming us and what to do about it" (Whew!!)
Morris is nothing more than a guy who resigned in disgrace and lost his Democratic Party influence overnight, who then took his insider knowledge to the highest bidder. He's a professional prostitute, just like the one that got him where he is. His former relationship with Bill Clinton - now 14 years in the past - earns him no credibility, no matter how much lipstick his Faux News pimps slather on him. To really understand what is happening in the World today - everyone should read this book. It is not biased towards any one idea - just gives the facts and lets the reader decide. Would recommend to everyone but I am sure not "everyone" will read it.....

Neophytes argue about facts, journeymen argue about models, and masters discuss the assumptions underlying the models.
This book assumes the President has power, which most of us who are students of America, from Buckminster Fuller on, have recognized is not the case. We've gone from a village idiot to a major domo, and the only constants are three: 1) Wall Street and Goldman Sachs specifically continues to run and manipulate the US Treasury against the public interest. 2) Congress continues to abdicate its responsibility to its constituencies and the Constitution 3) The bulk of the American people remain uninformed sheep. The ten books below are intended for those of you that want to move beyond Dick Morris as the classic comic book version of the truth, and into the deeper truth that should inspire Constitutionally-valid actions to restore the sovereignty of We the People of the United STATES of America. You cannot fix what you do not understand. Obama is a tool, not the problem. If Obama were willing to break free of Wall Street and embrace the 70% of America that did not vote for him, he could actually become the George Washington of this century if not this millenium. There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be fixed by restoring the Constitution and the sovereignty of We the People. The Electoral Reform Act of 2009, blowing open the crooked two-party system to Independents, Greens, Reforms, and Libertarians, and all others, is the ONLY thing we need to understand and demand. Below I offer five books on each side of the future: Grand Illusion: The Myth of Voter Choice in a Two-Party Tyranny Running on Empty: How the Democratic and Republican Parties Are Bankrupting Our Future and What Americans Can Do About It Breach of Trust: How Washington Turns Outsiders Into Insiders Obama: The Postmodern Coup - Making of a Manchurian Candidate Liar's Poker: Rising Through the Wreckage on Wall Street The Tao of Democracy: Using Co-Intelligence to Create a World That Works for All Society's Breakthrough!: Releasing Essential Wisdom and Virtue in All the People All Rise: Somebodies, Nobodies, and the Politics of Dignity (BK Currents (Hardcover)) The Average American: The Extraordinary Search for the Nation's Most Ordinary Citizen Constitutional History of Secession The latter book makes it crystal clear--and the same is true in Canada for Quebec and others--that secession is a legal, non-violent, absolute right of each of the United STATES of America. Wall Street is literally creating a "fire sale" in the USA while moving all of its assets into foreign currencies. Just how stupid do We the People have to be? Dick Morris is a good man, but he is a clown in this circus, and if all do not focus right now on the misbehavior of the government at large, violating the Constitution every day, not acting in the public interest as We the People would define it, then the USA will break up as the Soviet Union did, within the decade. Morris has no credibilty with his rants and fear mongering. This lacks any sound conclusions based on adequate data. the book will appeal to people who want to kill off any change that threatens the status quo where the rich get richer and 90 percent of us see opportunity dwindle. We can be smart and bold or listen to these nitwits. This book is drivel.

I highly recommend this book (as well as Morris' two prior books)! Here's just a sample of his Food for Thought offerings:
Obama's European Dream [Pgs 68-69] "Part of Americans' traditional love affair with success - and Europeans' empathy with poverty - comes from their differences over what causes people to move up or down the career ladder. ...the Pew Global Attitudes Project's observation that 'two-thirds of Americans believe that success is not outside their control.' ...'Only 40 percent of Europeans polled agreed.' "Much of the Europeans' low birthrate stems from their asking that if leisure is 'the purpose of life, why have a child? What good are they really?' ...these low birthrates, well below those necessary simply to maintain Europe's current population, exist in countries 'providing generous child allowances, free day-care centers, and long maternity leaves.'" "Moving US closer to the European socialist model is a threat to the American way of life. ... Charles Murray 'argues that we must again see: the American project for what it is: a different way for people to live together, unique among the nations of the earth, and immeasurably precious...Historically, Americans have been different as a people, even peculiar, and everyone around the world has recognized it. I'm thinking of qualities such as American optimism even when there doesn't seem to be any good reason for it. That's quite uncommon among the peoples of the world. There is a striking lack of class envy in America - by and large, Americans celebrate others' success instead of resenting it. That's just about unique, certainly compared to European countries, and something that drives European intellectuals crazy. And then there is perhaps the most important symptom of all, the signature of American exceptionalism - the assumption by most Americans that they are in control of their own destinies. It is hard to think of a more inspiring quality for a population to possess, and the American population still possesses it to an astonishing degree. No other country comes close.'" Pgs 81-82 have a fair narrative how 'toxic assets' came to be on banks' balance sheets (it all STARTS with government interference into mortgage lending, i.e., loan 'quotas'). Those of you who think 'leveling the playing field' is 'fair,' how about when you realize how pervasive it is and how it undermines YOUR abilities to succeed? "You can spend more money on health care, but that won't buy you an instant enlargement in the number of doctors to provide it." [Pg 105] Where everyone is entitled to health care, you still have a limited supply, 'so nobody gets adequate care.' INCENTIVE people to go into the medical field; what's so hard about that? Instead Trial Lawyers & Insurance Companies have been allowed to HOBBLE doctors & discourage them out of medicine. Morris provides deeper details to existing arguments; these serve to confirm or emphasize the ineptitude/illogic of today's leftist elites. The Left ignores Root Causes and treats Major Issues with bandaids. WE HAVE EXAMPLES of other countries' handling of bank failures or 'universal' health care; they are worthy of consideration to either emulate or be warned off, but Obama/Dems take the ones that worked AND DO THE OPPOSITE, or the ones that failed AND APPLY THOSE! Repeatedly... Talk radio - the MSM was/is indeed biased and Americans for decades got only 'one side.' The hunger was there and filled by conservative talk radio which grew and prospered; check the ratings! Now Obama (behind cover of an amendment by Senator Dick Durbin) wants to apply Affirmative Action to FCC licensing so free enterprise cannot work according to public listener demand, but supplies will be divied up according to 'quotas.' How is this contributing to 'diversity' when you once again stack the deck in favor of one-sided perspective? We believe in checks and balances throughout our system, or so I thought. But this is why Talk Radio is marked - socialists know they must control the information you need to make smart choices. Freedom of speech only applies in their minds when it's to allow burning of flags, browbeating and guilt-tripping, NOT political or scientific debate. THIS SHOULD FRIGHTEN EVERYONE TO DEFEND GENUINE 'DIVERSITY' ON THE AIRWAVES, NOT MERELY ONE-SIDED CONTROL OF OWNERSHIP/CONTENT. The MARKET VALUE is what should prevail. This should be a no-brainer, but isn't. So in the name of not tolerating what the public chooses overwhelmingly, YOU WILL HAVE INFORMED CHOICE TAKEN FROM YOU. If this were reversed - conservatives shutting out liberal participation in national discussions - already existing, mind you, via 'publicly funded' NPR & PBS, for example - it would be just as antithetical to FREEDOM. But when has conservatism used political pressure to shut them out? Never! Attack Dog style/Shut Down the Opposition is the Left's MO for they operate on the belief that Guaranteeing Outcome for one-side makes for a less 'informed' populace that is easier to manipulate when challenge is effectively removed. Eric Holder - another example of dangerous appointments to positions of power. Holder was 'instrumental in persuading President Clinton to pardon a group of FALN terrorists in 2000,' pushing 'some of his subordinates at the Clinton Justice Dept to drop their opposition to a controversial 1999 grant of clemency to 16 members of two violent Puerto Rican nationalist organizations.' The L.A. Times noted that 'angry lawmakers demanded to know why the Justice Dept had not sided with the FBI, federal prosecutors, and other law enforcement officials who were vehemently opposed the the grants.' Holder 'instructed his staff...to effectively replace the [Justice] Dept's original report recommending against any commutation...' [Pg 137] Well, Hillary Clinton wanted the Puerto Rican vote in NY, so utilize heinous criminals to achieve them. (Check out their criminal activity yourself.) Is someone who plays politics with Americans' SAFETY who we want heading our JUSTICE Dept?! It is no surprise that the Homeland Security report put the spotlight on 'returning veterans' and 'people with right-wing [traditional] opinions' as those to monitor and fear instead of Middle Eastern terrorists! There's plenty of other examples of whose side the Dems/Obama are on, and it's NOT YOUR'S! We don't have time to gather all the evidence together; we get distracted by cultural events endlessly looped... our critical thinking processes need people like Morris who does gathering for us, and attaches further telling details like icing on the cake. I SAY GOD BLESS HIM!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 00:09:57 EST)

I will be the first to admit that I am not a fan of Obama and his entire political agenda scares me. I am very passionate about the subject and it is hard to discuss it with my less conservative friends without getting very heated. This book, along with Glenn Beck's Common Sense, may just help me. This is a very well written book that is easy to read yet gets the point across that if we allow it, Obama will change this country dramatically and everyone will end up suffering. The bottom line that Dick Morris makes is that if we who go out to work everyday to support ourselves and our families without depending on the government, have no reason or incentive to work then why should we? If we stop working or even caring about the work we do then who will be left to pay the bill to support those that will not work.
I am a public school teacher and the government has already done a horrible job with the public schools as many, many students receive less and less information and education they can use. The government refuses to make parents be accountable for the children they bring into the world, let alone for themselves, in the realm of education or anything else and for that reason there are many millions of young people today who will be dependent on the government for support. We are called to help those that CANNOT work not those that WILL NOT work. There is a huge difference and until our government is willing to face this fact and start making people accountable for their actions then we will continue to see the downward spiral of our country and politicians will continue to use the ignorance and laziness of the people to get the power they want. Study ancient Rome for one example of the rich controlling the poor by giving them things. In case you are not a student of history let me remind you that the Roman Empire fell. I plan on passing this book around to my less conservative friends who seem to like Obama but will certainly be the first to scream when THEIR taxes go up or make a cut in the lifestyle their hard work has earned them. Catastrophe by Morris and McGann is short on insight and long on ... well... screaming. Instead of taking a point of view and creating an argument, Morris and McGann shout loud in order to get your attention. Their insights are often wrong, or built on poor foundations. Take, for example, their claim that Obama's health plan is rationing health care.
It's not untrue that Obama's health care plan with ration health care, but then again health care has always been rationed. Currently, health care is rationed by cost. Go into any emergency room and you'll see health care rationing. Poor and uninsured vie for health care access. Without health insurance patients with blocked coronary arteries are on the bottom of the list for stents, to open their blocked arteries. That's rationing. When the health insurance company denies coverage for certain surgeries, that's rationing. So, what Morris and McGann really complain about (not that they say this) is that health care rationing will change under Obama and the basis will not longer be cost. Obama's health care plan will make it more equitable, so that those without means will have similar access to those with the means. Look at it this way. Why does some fat, overeating, under exercised executive get first crack at a stent for his heart when the poor little old lady who has been cleaning his house for twenty years gets little or nothing for her heart condition. I guess if you agree with Morris and McGann the little old lady should just feel lucky to be allowed to live.... (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-12 11:49:42 EST)

The book is late. The catastrophe took place already. Dick Morris must know it better than anybody else -- it's the real catastrophe of morals, the true core of American conservatism. He was in the White House and saw it, he was in DC and participate in it. Financial (and economic) crisis is the result of this end of American principles. No more business common sense, no more idea of decency or shame. Too late cry "socialism" -- twenty years too late. The end of the Cold War was the time to return to American values, instead we went on the same path of self-destruction as USSR went -- the worse lies of all = lying to yourself. Too late to cry "Obama" after Clinton and Bush, my friend. "Yes, we can"?
I do not think so. Obama is about to discover that Americans died in their sleep -- they rather discipline to be imposed on them, because they have no will to do it themselves. The catastrophe of free man took place already, and it took place on Dick's watch. He is not a doctor, but a patient. Morris repeats same nonsensical "reload" idea -- reload of the old software which failed you already? He is smart, but America needs the wise. Does he have the courage to recognize the facts? No, the blame game continues... (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 00:09:57 EST)

As a person who considers himself a moderate, Dick Morris has always been one of my favorite TV guests. He has helped Clinton, and a number of Democrats, as well as a number of Republicans. I remember that the first time that I saw him, I thought that he was a consultant that would do anything to get elected (since he could not pick a party), but after realizing that he was an independent for the same reason that I was, I realized that I respected him more than 90% of the people on television.
This is the third book that I have thoroughly enjoyed that was either about Dick Morris, or has been written by him. I loved it, and you will too! It is hard not to fall in love with his writing style, and (since we are all political junkies) you will love his content! This is just another in a series of classics by Mr. Morris. If you have read any of his previous titles and enjoyed them, you will love this book! While it is not intensely different than his previously written, or spoken, views, you will love the book! This is a must read for any Dick Morris fan, or any politically-inclined individual in general. Enjoy! (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 00:09:58 EST)

I confess that I was not able to make it through this book. I am a libertarian who is very sympathetic with Morris's main points - that Obama, if he gets his way, will turn the US into a much more socialistic nation a la France and Canada. But I find much of the book a bit too partisan for my tastes.
For instance, Morris goes on for a while about the travesty and bad economic sense of the current bailouts; I couldn't agree more! But Morris lays all of the blame at the feet of the Obama camp... even though Bush was the one who got things rolling! (And on the chapters dealing with how we got into the financial crisis of '08/'09,Morris is quite blatantly careful not to menton that the entire housing bubble started with Bush's zeal for "affordable housing for all." In other words, democrats and republicans share quite equal blame for the direction we are headed, and I can't take Morris seriously because he only recognizes the guilt of one party. It makes it seem like he is partisan with more interest in stumping than analysis. Aside from this, I found the book quite repetitive (one hears many of the same arguments in chapter after chapter) and I suspect the book was written in considerable haste. (Actually, it must have been considering that Obama only stepped into office early this year). Beyond that, I was also ill-at-ease with Morris's conspiratorial tone ("Obama won't say so, but his plan is... Though he won't admit it, he wants to...") There are plenty better books out there, like The Housing Boom and Bust, Bailout Nation: How Greed and Easy Money Corrupted Wall Street and Shook the World Economy and even A Failure of Capitalism: The Crisis of '08 and the Descent into Depression . At least those authors are even-handed and don't seem to have a partisan ax to grind. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 00:09:58 EST)

I was watching a book review of "American's Defense Meltdown" and the authors's facts and figures were so well down that the people running the book fair warned the authors "you're giving the audience no hope of fixing the situation."
This book does exactly that. The beauty of the democratic plan is it makes over 50% of Americans into receivers of Federal government largess. This book never really goes into the fact that the founders of the American republic warned that when the voters figured out how to give themselves money from the general treasury then the republic would be finished. Morris does a great job of breaking down all the various government agencies, corporations, and "non-profit" groups, like the infamous ACORN, that benefit from Obama and the leftist Democrats that basically control the US government. Also, Morris pines for the Democrats of the 1990s who were willing to work with Republicans and try to get this nation on track. Morris was a lot happier being a centrist Democrat than working with Republicans trying to save this nation from economic collapse. However, you get the feeling that the 31% of America that really does not trust the present American government really do not stand a chance against the present Democrat/Media machine that controls the USA. This book has given me no hope for the future of the USA. Most Americans do not understand the aggregate debt. Thank you NEA. Most American do not understand the role the US government has in making barriers to business. Thank you US media. Morris gives a game plan but if we (the 31%) have no support from the media, education, or other American institutions then what chance do we have? I'm dejected after reading this book. The Democrats have plainly beat the Republicans at the political game. Over 51% of the population gets some sort of tax payer funded benefit. 49% of the other folks have to pay for it. But their votes never seem to matter and right now the Dow is well over 8200. By the end of 2009 the markets could be at 9000 and it never will seem to lose value. This book has pretty much made me lose hope for the Republic. Uncle Sam should be called "Uncle Sugar". The socialism will always grow, big business will get a subsidity, and 49% of America will always have to pay and pay. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-12 04:07:36 EST)

This expose by Dick Morris is a must read for anyone who cares about the future of the United States.
The former longterm advisor to Bill Clinton does a stellar job of outlining the disastrous consequences of the policies that have been enacted by the Washington political class since January 2009. Although there is certainly a lot of blame given to the new president and the Democrats in their march toward socialism, there is also plenty of fault that is laid at the feet of the Republicans. It does not take a rocket scientist to recognize the absolute economic disaster that has been unleashed since Barack Obama took office. As Morris shows, this is 'the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression, with record unemployment rates, staggering numbers of home foreclosures, decimated 401(k)s, and rising numbers of tent cities and shantytowns for the homeless.' He goes on to say that 'now is no time to accept or reject solutions based on whether they fit or don't fit a particular philosophical agenda.' Even those who voted for Obama and his Congressional majority should realize that a grim future awaits not only them, but their children and grandchildren unless decisive action is taken. The author goes through the depressing statistics about the sorry condition of our economy as well as how those in power are pursuing a course that will not help, but only make things worse. In the midst of this crisis, they are continuing with (monkey) business as usual with over 9000 earmarks in the stimulus bill and other such corruption. Obama is certainly not the only one to be exposed for fiscal recklessness. Many members of Congress and governors of both parties are highlighted in this book. It also covers much of the damage caused by special interest groups. There is also a lot of information on subjects other than the economy. One example is the chapter on terrorism. It clearly shows how Mr. Obama's actions have made us far more vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Not all of this book is a downer. Mr. Morris sees hope on the horizon and has an action agenda for those who want a better future. One hopes that millions will heed his advice and get involved. If that happens, this can be turned around. If not, the great United States of America could potentially end up like a third rate European economy. Buy this book, share it with others, talk about it, and get involved. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-12 04:07:36 EST)

At first, the title sounds like overblown alarmism. But a brief perusal of the content will quickly convince any concerned reader that Dick Morris has chosen this title appropriately and purposefully. Morris reads like a modern historian, laying out the facts of our current political climate in meticulous detail (everything is highly referenced for those who want to double-check his sources).
Unlike those who merely whine about "how bad things are", Morris gives practical solutions and an urgent call to action. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to help stem the tide of socialism in this country! (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-12 04:07:36 EST)

The entire time Obama was on the campaign trail he "warned" of his plans by cloaking the unpalatable in eloquent speech. Never before has the cult of personality been so dangerous! I warned everyone that would listen of what was to come if he were elected. By the end of his term he may actually make Jimmy Carter look good in comparison. God help us.

Dick Morris has become too formulaic
I like Dick Morris. I subscribe to his email newsletter. I watch his appearances on FoxNews when I happen to tune in, which is rare these days. Morris is a bright guy. As a political consultant and pollster, he worked both sides of the street, serving Republicans and Democrats, including a number of years with Bill Clinton. Morris takes credit for devising Clinton's "triangulation" strategy. In recent years, Morris has become a prolific book author, penning ten so far. The last few have followed a formula of taking contemporary topics, supporting them with good research and then 1) putting them into his email newsletter, 2) then talking about them on his TV appearances and 3) finally putting the same material in book form. That's the main reason I'm not overly excited about this book: I've read much of the material once in Morris' newsletters and heard a lot of it in his FoxNews appearances. Anyone who follows conservative news sources and blogs will know about each of the sixteen subject areas Morris covers and will have seen much, if not, all of the facts Morris presents. So maybe Morris is trying to reach those who don't get his newsletter, don't watch him on TV or read conservative news outlets. I don't know. But for those who don't already know the facts will definitely learn a lot from Morris. Each of his subject areas, such as the one showing how Christopher Dodd and Charlie Rangel have taken advantage of their elective office for personal gain, are thoroughly researched and the facts laid out in a persuasive manner. The book is written as something of a call to a populist uprising, which I think is more than a nod to the current Tea Party movement. Morris covers Obama's unilateral withdrawal from the war on terror, how the United States is funding the terrorist organization, Hamas, how former elected officials and staff members are making fortunes as lobbyists and so on. Again, for the politically are, there won't be any surprises here. But for those who are not, the information may lead to dropped jaws. While this book may not be exciting for me, I think many people who don't follow political news closely will benefit greatly. Jerry (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-12 04:07:36 EST)

Poor adulterer Dick Morris continues to shower the people with more of his inane drivel. Remember, this is the man that was caught licking the toe cheese from some prostitutes feet. Nasty!

I like Dick Morris, agree with many things he has said in the past. I'm half way through this book and find it disappointing. He spends all his time blaming the Democrats and Obama. So far there isn't one mention of any fault with Bush and the Republicans. I don't disagree with his points about what the Democrats are doing, but the blame falls on BOTH parties.
If you're a Republican who only wants to hear one side, this is the book for you. If you want a balanced view, find another book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-12 04:07:37 EST)
