I am relatively new to the world of options. After selling a few covered calls on stocks I own and a few I liked, I was interested in finding a better way to locate quality stocks for writing options. That is when I found Alan's book. And it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Not only did it get me thinking about options in a different way (smaller, steady returns vs looking for the "big catch"), but he details a very straightforward and easy way to find the best of the best in the stock world. After running some paper trades using his system, I have already seen the great potential. This is not a get rich quick scheme. You will not become a millionaire over night. What you will get though is a system that can help you generate steady profits each month while minimizing risk.
I highly recommend this to those just getting into options and even those who are looking for a way to find better quality stocks. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-03-16 12:59:01 EST)

In mid 2008 I decided to get to know about the stock market. It was a completly new thing to me. I seriously knew nothing about this, except that it existed. My motivation was 'Have my money work for me, not me work for money'... (I never wanted to be a slave to money, I wanted money to be a slave to me...)
So, this ignited an investigation into the stock market. In the space of 12 months I spent over $5000 on investment seminars, books, home dvd seminars, mentoring ect.. I loved it. I learnt sooo much doing all this. BUT, I still wasnt satified. Something was missing. I wanted some very specific information. All I knew was 1) The information existed and 2) I hadnt found it- yet. Looking on Amazon I saw this book was available, but decided not to buy it. I just checked out Alans web site and youtube vids. I even emailed him numerous times each time he have me excellent responses. In the 2-3 months of doing this I learnt allot of things that would have costed $$$ from seminars, ect.. I figured that if I could learn this much from free information, it was worth investing $20... The book is written very proffesionally. Its not filled with any crazy jargon, making it easy to understand. Alan will walk you through a step by step program that achieves 2 things. 1) Minimise Risk 2) Maximise gain Upon reading the book you will find that you will have the confidence to do these 2 things in the stockmarket. I have been writing covered calls for over 10 years with some success but not getting the results I wanted to achieve. I was looking for a covered call strategy which uses Investors Business Daily for stock selection but was unable to find one until I found Alan Ellman's website. I have spent literally thousands of dollars on trading seminars, etc. which did not lead to success. Alan's 'Cashing In on Covered Calls' book is a real blessing to me and was exactly what I was searching for. I now look forward to a fantastic retirement as a successful covered call writer.

This is a good book for beginners to familiarize themselves with covered call writing. A weakness I noticed with most introductory books on this subject, this one included, is that they seem to accentuate the positives but overlook the negatives of using covered calls. If you write covered calls against a stock and collect a premium but the stock keeps moving lower and suddenly you are facing a 25% or more loss in the stock; the small premium you collect is of little value. This is especially a problem with sudden bad news or down gaps. My point is that holding the option until expiration may not be the right strategy in many cases. In addition using technical analysis to time entry and exit is critical to maximize option premiums as well as paying special attention to implied volatility of the underlying security . Many other factors including open interest ,short interest on the stock etc .give clues to option behavior. It is thus necessary to continue your education by reading other books that focus on volatility, timing , as well as technical analysis.

Cashing In On Covered Calls educates the reader, in a manner that is truly simple and straightforward, to do precisely what the title implies. Although I have been investing in the market for approximately 15 years, and am currently employed on Wall Street, I must admit that this book has opened my eyes to what I believe is one of the most underutilized trading strategies to date. Many of the so-called "experts" on Wall Street view covered-call writing as too conservative a strategy to profit significantly. Ellman's method, however, if implemented properly, proves just the opposite, and I say that based on personal experience, having made significant gains (up 32%) since utilizing his strategy. The author astutely exploits the power of profit compounding by immediately reinvesting option premiums in stocks that are fundamentally and technically sound, and it is Ellman's stock selection method, which is as intelligent as it is simple, that is perhaps my favorite part of his book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, be it novice or veteran trader, who values minimizing risk while making periodic streams of profit.

The information in this book shows no statistical prove, numbers are arbitrary, a 40$ strike for a 38$ stock with 1-2 weeks left is valued at 1$? The contents is extremely rudimentary, some TA, some fundamental analysis. No serious discussion on the issue of capped gain and potential huge loss of equity value (statistical prove it actually worked?) In fact, no serious discussion on anything, read anything else is better. (I bought both book [...], unfortunately)

I have had many years of investing experience including options and the technique of covered call writing. I read the book Cashing in on Covered Calls and was amazed at the clear explanation Alan Ellman provided concerning the selection of potential stocks and their evaluation for covered call writing. I have tried the method he outlines, and found it to be helpful and profitable, even in a terrible market environment.
Dr. Ellman supports the book with an excellent website and blog site where questions can be asked and answered . ISBN: 978-0-9774233-5-4 Cashing in on Covered Calls Alan Ellman I recommend this book for beginners, as well as experienced investers, who wish to earn income with little risk by writing covered calls. Cashing in on Covered Calls. Investing with Stock Options
Janet and I are retired and wanted an avocation to supplement our Social Security and pay for our meds. Allen's Book gave us the knowledge and the support we needed to get started. In my first three weeks, I earned over $7800 using his methodology. Not a bad income generator, huh? I advise senior citizens nearing or at retirement age to investigate their potential for selling covered calls and investing with stock options. It is all about money management. Janet and I have a Get Rich Pile ($3500) which we use for buying and selling options. We also have a Stay Rich pile which is our 401k rollovers...we don't let the broker run it any more. We manage them. Allen's book, blogs, forms and secrets for success are in this book. It is the closest thing we have found to a silver bullet. Be careful out there...these are hard times. I have been investing for many years and often felt there had to be a better way. I think I finally found the better way when I read Alan's book. His system is easy to understand and even easier to implement. Just do your homework, which Alan meticulously explains in his book, and I believe anyone will be able to profit handsomely from writing covered calls. Thank you Alan. You have changed for the better my investing landscape for years to come.

Let me start off by saying this is my first review of any kind for any product. I would not take the time unless I truly felt it was worthwhile. Alan Ellman's book "Cashing In on Covered Calls" is the simply the easiest and safest way for an individual to make outstanding returns in the market.
What if I told you there is an investing system that can generate over 20% annually while minimizing risk and it also allowed you to possibly make money even if your stock declined a small percentage in value from your purchase price? Would you think I was crazy? Well that is precisely what "Cashing In on Covered Calls" will do for you. Covered calls are considered safe enough that the government will let you trade them in a self directed IRA. I recently opened up a Roth IRA for my son's college fund in order to trade Covered Calls and I feel so empowered managing my own money especially considering the recent downturn in the market. This book is also an easy read and is great even for beginning investors. I actually read it in one sitting because Alan's writing style is so easy to follow. In addition to the book Alan has a great website with updated blog postings to keep all his fellow `Blue Collar Investor's' up to date on recent market action. If you want to take charge of your money today then fire your financial advisor and buy this book - you'll be glad you did. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-05-03 14:23:58 EST)

The book is laid out in a simple to follow manner. Great advice. I read other books that had way too much information for a starter and let you wondering: "Ok, how do I start?". Alan's book is easy to follow and he saves us from information clutter giving concise info.

This book is a must read for anyone planning to sell covered calls. It provides a step-by-step approach for the novice investor starting with the basics of how to evaluate a stock and then how to sell options. This is accomplished in a very clear and concise manner. Experienced investors will also significantly benefit by refreshing themselves with the basics, but more importantly introducing them to a variety of advanced concepts such as exit strategies. I enjoyed this book immensely and believe it provides valuable insights into these very specialized transactions.

The book contains key concepts for creating a potentially profitable trading system, but doesn't go into enough detail in certain areas, especially regarding what to do when a stock goes down. I wanted more strategies dealing with managing losses, but I think the author saved that for his extensive line of CDs and DVDs. But you can figure out strategies of your own if you research, ponder, and trade long enough.
My final word is for you the reader to enter the market slowly and get used to the rules of placing trades, to get a feel for how the market moves and how much, and to experience the feeling of having your money on the line (much different than when it's paper). Eventually you can move into bigger positions and discover how much "stress" you can personally endure. It took me many nights of half-sleep before finding a level of risk/reward I was comfortable with. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-02-13 08:38:09 EST)

ALAN, I want to thank you for your book on Covered Calls. I subscribed to a course that cost several thousand dollars to learn all the different ways to use options (Bull Call, Bear Put, Straddles and Iron Condors etc) but they never told much about covered calls. I bought your book for $19.95 and a Subscription to Investors Business Daily. I have recouped my investment in the course and have settled on using covered calls exclusively to do options. My thanks to you for showing me the way. It involves much less risk and your method is a way that I can do options without losing sleep. It does require some monitoring, but that only takes a few minutes a day. Thanks Again
