I read this as a suggestion from my sister during my 4th month of pregnancy. I was in the "easy" part of my pregnancy, so I'll probably read it again in my 9th month so I can appreciate it a little more. Her chapters of various symptoms were absolutely hilarious & blunt. She has a way of describing what our bodies & minds go through in a way that is totally relatable. It may be a bit raunchy for some, but pregnancy isn't always pretty & she says it as it is. Dark nipples, dry heaving, bleeding gums, constipation, it's all in the book & it's all true!!! I've already given this book as part of a shower gift & will continue to do so in the future!

I loved this book - its informative AND funny. Great for the mom-to-be who wants to know what to expect in a less "scary" way than "what to expect when your expecting" - I thought that book had all kind of just negative info ( just my opinion).

Great reading after the heavy medical stuff us new mums get into these days. In fact, after reading it I have bought it as a shower gift for all my new mum girlfriends!!

This girl can write!!! I was shocked at how well spoken she is - and how appropriate her well-placed expletives are! This book totally captures the essence of pregnancy and is reaffirming of your own feelings/emotions during the experience. It even makes you feel well balanced when compared to her rollercoaster! What's most amazing is you feel like she's "just one of the girls" and that you just met your new best friend. This is a must read for all pregnant women and their spouses (my husband had a much better appreciation for me after reading this book - and I even overheard him recommend it to his friend whose wife isn't even pregnant)!!

This is a funny, light-hearted look at all the wonderful symptoms of pregnancy...some I didn't know about. She really just puts everything out there to let you know what you might experience. If you are looking for an easy, funny read this is for you.

I gave this book to my daughter who is planning on getting pregnant soon. She finished the book in two days and laughed continuously!! She said it was a great read. She also have many questions to ask my about pregnancy after reading this book. It covers many things that a mother may not normally talk to her daughter about when discussing pregnancy.

Great for pregnant women and their men - so funny. I love how she just lays it all out there, it really breaks the ice with your mate about all the gross personal stuff that goes on during pregnancy. Very uplifting and funny.

This book is so funny because it is so true. Jenny really does "tell it like it is" and it aint all pretty. I really enjoyed the book and have also borrowed it to a few friends who enjoyed it also.

This book is funny. However, it doesn't contain anything enlightening at all. It is a collection of things that every mother already knows and every newly pregnant woman might be scared of. If you're reading this book to see how Jenny did it and compare yourself, I urge you not to model your pregnancy after hers, she clearly had no clue what was going on.

When I first became pregnant, I was reading all of the basic books that take you through everything "step by step". There is no step by step with pregnancy and I felt like I was insane until I bought Jenny's book! I literally laughed so hard I cried! I didn't put it down at all-read it in 1 sitting! It really made me feel better about myself, the changes I was going through and ultimately made me start ENJOYING my pregnancy! I am so thankful she wrote this book. It really is the greatest and I just adore her even more now! I can't wait to read her other books!

Insanely amusing & fun...very honest & crass...gotta love Jenny!! Not a book for the overly prude, or those who want to stay in denial about pregnancy & childbirth.

This book didn't make me laugh and it provided no helpful information. I thought I would appreciate Jenny's point of view and at least chuckle once or twice, but no. It wasn't funny, wasn't well written, and mostly I thought she made pregnancy and labor sound horrible. You can't say all those negative things and then wrap it all up simply by saying "Despite all that, it is the most beautiful thing you'll ever do". Don't waste your money. (At least I got mine from a free pile.)

Here's a sex symbol (who ended up having a very sick child and a not so perfect marriage) who makes fun of her self instead of seeing her child as the culprit of her situation. I admire that in her. One thing I notice about so many so called funny story books about motherhood. They take no consideration for the kids they're writing about. This book is short and sweet. Gets right to the point and holds nothing back. Very honest look at womens bodies during pregnancy.

I hated the latter- too preachy and no evidence to back-up the ridiculously cruel "pregnancy diets" and other policing nonsense. McCarthy's is much more realistic about pregnancy and absolutely hilarious. While not an encyclopedia-style reference manual like What to Expect, this book will help you feel good when you've got the pregnancy blues, are feeling insecure about your body, are moody and guilty, bloated, etc etc etc. I read it in a day and will read it again before my nine months are up. I LOVE THIS BOOK!

For starters Jenny McCarthy and I have similar crude personalities and I have always been able to relate to her humor. I am relieved to read the experiences that she had during her pregnancy, and comforted that I am not the first to feel all of these strange things in pregnancy. Insightful, informative and an easy read.

This book made me laugh out loud throughout the whole thing. I didn't buy it to get pregnancy or mothering advice, I got it to laugh. I got it to read about the fact that celebrities get all the good and bad preganncy sypmtoms that the rest of us do. Jenny is a comedian, not a writer, so I'm not looking for Shakespeare, I'm looking for Jenny McCarthy's humor. I thought the book was hilarious and I loved every bit!

This book is great. It's a fun and informative quick read. If you're expecting or pregnant it's a MUST read. I laughed, cried, and laughed so hard that I cried! I would recommend this book to anyone!

First off, when going into this book, you have to remember that this is Jenny McCarthy; not someone known for her eloquent and polite style. She is loud, crass, and honest. If you can handle that attitude, you will like this book.

As previous reviewers have said, this book is short, but I enjoyed being able to read it in a day or two for fun. What I enjoyed most about this book is that it never tried to be something it wasn't. It is very much JUST her experience, and she is not passing judgment on others who do not share her exact experience (unlike "The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy"). Jenny never pretends that she isn't a celebrity and even acknowledges that her fame got her some conveniences that others may not share. I didn't feel like she was trying to pretend she leads the same life as most of us, and I appreciated that.

This book is fun, light, and not meant to be taken seriously. Sometimes you need to put down the medical recommendations and laugh some.

Being pregnant for the first time is scary! A woman will experience so many changes in the nine LONG months before delivery that it is hard to understand what exactly is going on with the body and mind. For me it was fear. The thought of giving birth terrified me because of all the horror stories you hear from family and friends. Needless to say when I found out I was pregnant this past July (which came as a total surprise) I wanted to learn everything I could on childbirth. I bought the entire "How To and Everything" books, pregnancy 101, etc... These books were helpful, but at the same time placed more fearful thoughts into my head and were also hard to understand and not to mention boring! My mother-in-law recommended the book Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy because she heard that it was a funny read. At the bookstore I opened up Belly Laughs and read part of the first chapter and from that point on I couldn't put it down.

Everything that Jenny went though during the 1st trimester (I was at this stage while reading the book) I was also experiencing. She is no doctor, but she answered a lot of my questions that these HOW TO books couldn't. Not only did she keep me laughing and interested in her own pregnancy, but she also eased my mind for the upcoming months in preparation for delivery. This book is a page turner! I recommend this book to anybody who wants a good laugh or to the first time mom with fears and embarrassing questions that you would never dare to ask your mother! Trust me after reading this book you will want to buy her other books Baby Laughs and Life Laughs.

I read this book in about a day. I couldn't put it down. If your pregnant, you can relate, or will be able to relate. I found the book hilarious, and a must read... even for those who are not expecting, or never have.

Belly Laughs was a very easy read. It was funny and I felt like I could connect with Jenny. It didn't provide a lot of information more about what she went through but it was helpful b/c I went through the same things.

While I am a FTM, nothing in the book made me think that pregnancy was going to "horrible" like others have said, it is after all , Jenny McCarthy. I thought parts of it were funny, because I have a sense of humor when it comes to being pregnant. Your body goes into this whirlwind of changes and she tried her best to be funny about it.

The cons, I would say, is that the book is REALLY short. I didn't realize it until I made my purchase, but never the less it is short. Also, she is some what whiney in certain parts, and alot that she says, I don't really believe. She came off as a celebrity trying to relate, but I don't believe for one second she would pee on the side of a street, or use a trucker station bathroom.

Over all, I gave 3 stars, it wasn't great, but I laughed at a bunch, and THAT was the point of this book. Its not a Doctor tell all about pregnancy. Its a playboy playmate talking about getting fat and pregnant. I say FAT also because she ate a bundle of brownies every night... that is just gluttony. :-)

This book makes you feel like you are not alone in the world of pregnancy. It is such a relief to know that even celebrity mothers go through the same trials and tribulations of having a baby and are not afraid to share them. Great laughs! Thanks Jenny!

I have never laughed to hard while reading a book. Jenny is brutally honest about pregnancy, and shares her stories. I only wish it were longer! I highly recommend this to anyone who's pregnant and plan on giving this book as a gift to my friends when they get pregnant.

Please please please Jenny STOP writing! Your style is AWEFUL for one... And you are misleading women into thinking pregnancy and birth is terrible... and painful. You didn't give birth you had surgery! This book is STUPID. don't spend your money.I felt offended when you said: epidurals why anyone would'nt get one? Do you get it now? You ended up with a C section and a blue baby! and not breastfeeding? You'd rather give COW milk to your baby (that you say you LOVE) then mommy milk... give me a break and get OUT!

This book is a must read for every expectant mother...who may read selections to the father! I laughed, I cried and I loved every minute! Jenny is a fantastic author!

I love her raunchy yet real approach to being pregnant. A real laugh out loud book that everyone can appreciate!

I really loved the honesty put forth in this book. It kept me laughing from page to page. If you liked the Girlfriend's Guides than you'll probably enjoy this.

Belly Laughs is a fun read - don't get me wrong. Just it is more a personal account of Jenny McCarthy's experience of being pregnant then of pregnancy in general. I don't know about other woman - but I am not a super start that is usually a size 4 who has to worry hosting a nationally board cast TV show while pregnant. That aside it does offer many tidbits of good info for a first time pregnant woman. I would be sure to get other books to go along with this one though for your reading pile.

I bought this for my wife and I. She would read it every night. She was laughing so much it turned into us reading it together so we could spend more time with one other. This book realy open my eyes to see what my wife was going to have to go though and not sugar coating made it even better. We were able to unerstand what happens to the female body a lot better then some of the other books. Being a man I would hate having my wife explaning things to me. We talk very openly so it was great spending time with my wife understanding whats to come and not asking questions about what is being explained in the book. I would tell anyone who wants children who have had children to read this book its just a great one to read.

Jenny McCarthy's candor is so refreshing! I have been reading all sorts of pregnancy books that talk about the miracle happening within me and the beauty of pregnancy--whatever! I am happy to be pregnant and can't wait to be a mom, but there is NOTHING about pregnancy that I have enjoyed so far. Jenny lays it all out like a big sister or a best friend, letting you know that you are not the only one whose miracle may be making you miserable. It was nice to know I wasn't the only one who felt this way.

My husband and I LOVED these books! Both of them are hilarious, and I would recommend them to anyone. It gave the hubby a sense of what to expect, with a sense of humor. Jenny's very direct, which I love. Buy them both!

After i found out i was pregnant, i received about 15 books from friends in the first couple months.. Sadly this was not one of them. So before our flight home from Hawaii my husband bought me this book and needless to say, i finished it before we even boarded and i was laughing out loud the entire time!!! Sadly i STILL haven't even picked up any of the other books that i received as gifts. Jenny McCarthy is great. She's really outspoken like myself and i have a feeling if we met we'd get ourselves in a hell of a lot of trouble.. Not for innocent ears but for real women!!! Can't wait to read her second one!

I just bought this book for a good friend who is expecting. She loved it and read it cover to cover within days. My sister also loved Jenny's humor and honesty about the "beauty of pregnancy." I'm not a mom or pregnant, but the parts they read to me were hysterical!

I did not like this too much. In pretty much every chapter she bashes her (ex)husband, and I could not find anything in this book that I could not read anywhere else.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A friend of mine is pregnant and I think this gave a real, no holds barred, view of pregnancy. Jenny has a way of making some of the not so wonderful sides of those nine months humorous and real. I would recommend this whether you're pregnant or not!

Author pulls no punches in this book. The writing is very descriptive and easy to read.

This book definitely humanized the journey of pregnancy. I am entering my second trimester right now and was glad to hear that I'm not suffering alone. Jenny is very honest and real in this book and its certainly nice to see that celebritites don't get a pass on things like easy pegnancies (not that I wished Jenny a difficult pregnancy).
