First of all, I admit I have only read the e-version of this book and do not know if it differs from the paperback. If you were a doctor the pictures would be helpful for diagnosis. However, I find it lacks concrete treatment options (maybe there are none at this time) and jumps from item to item in a nonsensical manner.
I also notice that Dr. Schaller uses pictures from Fry labs that are now labelled "suggestive of hemobartonella or mycoplasma" and Schaller seems to indicate they are bartonella. But, in reality Fry is still doing research as to what the organisms are. To imply they are bartonella could prove to be a dangerous mistake by Dr. Schaller should the organisms turn out to be something else that requires totally different treatments. Since I have not read the paperback I do not know if there is a reference section. The end pages of the e-book just advertise how to get an appointment with Dr. Schaller--something I find unprofessional for a physician. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-02 00:57:41 EST)

In my pursuit of Lyme disease research which has become a full time role, Dr. James Schaller has been the single most compassionate and helpful healthcare professional. He gives freely of his time and offers untethered advice and guidance, and I consider him a leading, respected expert in the field of Lyme disease and co-infections.
It has always amazed me how Dr. Schaller can remain on the cutting edge of medical research. As a physician who is still in the clinical setting, this dedicated doctor takes the time and energy necessary not only to deal compassionately with patients, but also to burry himself in research and remain on the frontier of Lyme disease information. His Bartonella textbook is no different. Written for both patients and physicians, this book belongs in the library of both. Highly recommended. I am very disappointed in this book. The photos were of poor quality and the drawings/sketches looked as if drawn by a child. The book appeared very unprofessional and was unnecessarily lengthy. This information could have been put in a pamphlet. Don't waste your money.

I think it was genius to make both a black & white & color editions of this book. If the color edition is out of your price range then the black & white edition is excellent, too. Picture aren't as defined but for the money, it's Excellent. Pictures like these can not be found anywhere else. I have searched everywhere. Besides the pictures, it gave me a better understanding of just how critical Bartonella is. Who would of thought moles, that were really Bartonella papules, could be a disease that kills.(try and search that on the internet, you'll find nothing, but i have them and you can see examples in these books) Bottom line, Dr. Schaller has done it again another excellent book - You should read his mold illness & his children's books -They are also VERY good.

I found this book to be very well written & easy to understand - Yes, the pictures are not in color but so what - I think it was genius to make the book in black & white so it affordable - Pictures like these can not be found anywhere else. I have searched everywhere. Besides the pictures, it gave me a better understanding of just how critical Bartonella is. This book is an awesome compilation of relevant and useful information, both visual and written on the under- and mis- understood topic of Bartonella infections. I am not aware of any other modern source for this kind of data, summary of treatment outcomes, and generous album of photographic records of the cutaneous manifestation of Bartonella infections. It will prove beneficial to caregivers, and sufferers of this stubborn and stealthy disease. This book will hopefully raise everyone's awareness of not only this disease's existence, but its abundant presence. How anyone can actually read through it and not be amazed, frightened, and thankful, is difficult to understand, given its clear, non-"medical" writing style. A must read for anyone in medicine, or anyone touched by hard-to-diagnose or hard-to-treat physical or psychological struggles.

Sadly, this book was not worth the money. It consists mostly of pics, some blurry...and very poor sketches and drawings.
Nothing new to learn in this book as far as treatment either. Very disappointing. I would not recommend this book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-13 23:45:29 EST)

Once again, Dr. Schaller has produced another incredibly useful and well-written book for anyone who has experienced or treats tick or flea-borne illness. If you have terrible fatigue, hard to treat emotional troubles, or illnesses no one can figure out, this emerging serious infection, Bartonella, that appears to infect millions, may be the cause. Dr. Schaller shares that bartonella harms the body 300 ways and makes stabilization or recovery with other infections such as HIV, Hepatitis C and advanced Lyme disease more difficult because Bartonella suppresses the immune system.
The information contained in this book is not commonly known by doctors, as I have personally experienced. As a patient who was one of six ill people who had been to 28 doctors, it was this doctor's research on various tick-borne illnesses that uncovered the many missing pieces to our mystery tick-bourne illness. His research, in my opinion, is clearly years ahead of his time. He has fused his immense passion for healing with easy to understand, comprehensive research. The book is well written and both patients and medical professionals who have no understanding of this serious infection should find it easy to read and understand. I don't recall seeing the volume of photos that are found in his book anywhere else and I believe that the last book written on this subject is ten years old. The many unique photo's shown depict many types of obvious or subtle skin forms found when Bartonella is present. These images have already been very helpful to me -- I recognized aspects of our family illness that I had not known were related to Bartonella. With the complete lack of training most doctors have on this subject, it is critical for anyone with this illness to educate themselves, and to arm themselves with the useful and important information contained in this book.
