Great Book. Delightful sense of humor. I had never heard of him before, quite frankly. He was spot on in many areas. Everyone should read his last chapter - very interesting.

Some reviewers of this book find it simplistic. One has to suppose that if one cuts through the "bull crap", to paraphrase Mr. Beck, that so many problems can be solved with plain ol' common sense. It seems to be human nature to put the worst spin on every situation, and so self hating Liberals thrive on blaming the world's ills on Western civilization. Mr. Beck merely points out that if the West would cease and desist with political correctness, then maybe the good that is inherent to our society would be able to trump all that troubling the world today. One can only wish that every Liberal who "can't bring himself to finish reading this book" would for once take a moment to consider another point of view, with an open mind.

An Inconvenient Book by Glenn Beck is probably the most believable explanation of 'global warming' 'widespread food shortages' etc etc used by so many to spread fear, panic and distrust. I am a Beck fan - and the cyclicle kinds of crop shortages, weather systems, storms with their ensuing damage have not destroyed our lives nor our future on the planet.
Rather greed and misinformation evidenced so strongly in recent events are calculated to cause anxiety and feelings of helplessness.
Glenn Beck is a breath of fresh air blowing across a tortured landscape.

Much like a typical day on Glenn's show, this book is fun, easy to digest, all over the place and sometimes a bit kooky.

Glenn starts out with a bang with his anti-Al Gore chapter and it is strong. In the middle he gets off track with chapters like the one about chick flcks and guy movies, blind dates and the one about aging (I fail to see how wearing a toupee or not is one of the world's biggest problems). His constant cheap shots on overweight people is not endearing, either.

However, his chapters on the United Nations, political correctness, college education and the minimum wage are all very strong.

He ends up with his pet theory that America is being led towards a Mexican-American-Canadian united country. He discusses this from time to time on his show. He makes a weak case in his book and it is a dud of a chapter to end with.

Not having footnotes, endnotes or any other sort of citation system for Beck's facts weakens the overall value of the book as well. Too bad, that's just laziness.

3 and 1/2 stars.

The book has some contradictory inferences.
For instance, CO2 increments have been followed
by fewer deaths from inclement weather.
The 5 stages of tipping are denial, anger,
bargain, depression and acceptance.

Many schools utilize a model UN to teach diplomacy.
The real United Nations should emulate the school
model.

There are easier ways to remember tricky names.
i.e. Say (difficult to remember) names often.
The author believes that illegal immigration
depresses wages. Nonetheless, the USA may have a
chronic labor shortage in 10-15 years so that the
immigration might not be that bad after all.

Hot food increases the metabolism according to the
author. I always believed that the warmer food
would increase metabolism incrementally.

Finally, the author believes that Islam is a
religion of peace. Generally, Islam is peaceful
except for the extreme elements which are in a
minority. The 57 Nations of the Arab League should
work on modifying the more extreme Arab opinions.

I like this book! Glenn Beck has a great sense of humor, which he uses to advantage. Within the pages lie stark contrasting data opposite to the stupid notion by some fellow named "Gore" that the sky is falling. At least Beck hasn't put on 50-75 pounds flying his "green" jet all around the world spouting his unproven nonsense. Sounds like I'm a tad prejudiced, doesn't it? I simply like "just the facts, mam."
Beck proceeds to lay out corrections to the many false assumptions made in Gore's book. He also tosses in a few additional facts about our government and nation. He makes it interesting to read...even if you're a "head in the sand" Liberal. No, I doubt if this book will change your mind if you're so drawn to that notion, but perhaps it'll make you consider that there can be opposing notions. I heartedly recommend...also Beck's TV show.

A smorgash board of subjects discussed by an A.D.D. person. The book follows his irreverant humor while at the same time making a valid point.
Some discussions are boring but overall Glenn implants his common sense through non-PC humor.
Good book that can be read in a random fashion somewhat like Glenn's thought process.

Beck is an arch-conservative TV/radio personage who has penned a remarkable book. Oh, mind you, he includes the simplistic solutions which are favored by the Extreme Right. (The Extreme Left favors different but equally simplistic solutions.) But he also makes an effective and remarkable argument in language that has escaped me for years: There is a BIG difference between "I disagree with what you say, and I think that the better view is x, y, z" and "By God, you can't say that!" The former is emblematic of a healthy political and social discourse; the latter, a sign of irrationality and closed minds. Even something which you "know" to be nonsense deserves to be heard in the marketplace of ideas, and Beck expounds on that better than anyone I've read lately.

He's funnier, more down to earth, and more real than Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Levin, etc. (Well maybe not funnier than Coulter--but but with her I keep having to tell my kids, "No, no, Ms. Coulter is just kidding!") His information is great, his viewpoints spot-on conservative, and his digressions slapstick.

I also think Beck has some visionary in him--enough that he does not come across as a clown or goofball. There is greatness here.

"An Inconvenient Book" poses "Real Solutions to the World's Biggest Problems." Out of the chute, Beck takes on Global Warming; Marriage, Porn, Adultery, and Divorce; and Radical Islam. And he's just getting started. If you've listened to his show on the radio or TV, you know that Glenn has a no-holds-barred approach to society's denial of realities of the problems we face. Whether it's socialism, political correctness, media distortion, politics, or illegal immigration, Beck isn't afraid to say what no one else seems afraid to hear. Granted, much more can be said, and even if "An Inconvenient Book" only serves as a starting point to get more conversations going, we do need discourse on the real challenges we face.

You can only pack so much into a chapter about the world's problems, and Glenn is selective in what gets the point across without digressing from the purpose (too much). Each chapter ends with proposed solutions to each of the 22 problems. Some of the light chapters like parenting and aging end up more like a gag line, rather than any real solution. After all, what solutions are there to teenagers who want to emulate Paris and Britany? Or how do you counteract gravity after 40 and hair growing from all the places you don't want it?

If you don't want to think about the problems of society today, "An Inconvenient Book" might not be for you. But if you want to challenge the assumptions of socialism-at-any-cost, world government's override agenda as it relates to immigration, child molesters, or a score of topics, "An Inconvenient Book" is the kind of book you can get mad as hell about. Beck's solutions hardly ever propose implementing a government program. He looks at what we can do in our homes to face real challenges ahead.

I listened to the audio version of this book. Glenn Beck read it himself.

He tries to make the listening experience interesting, he makes voices, changes tones, etc. But overall, it sounds like he is talking from a pedestal from which he can see all the right ways to do things in the world. Overall, he talks down to people.

I believe that he presented many things that are indeed good and valid observations, but I had to force myself to get through this audiobook because of his deaming delivery.

In trying to be honest about how ridiculous political correctness can be, he presents himself and the issues in a crass manner. Political correctness may be keeping us from solving very important issues, but we still live in societies, and a certain amount of civility and manners are expected.

Another person who thinks he has all the answers. If you listen and read closely to what this man says he is filled with so much hate. You should have heard his rant about movies, magazines, books, and videogames. He says these things are what's wrong with society. Not that our economy has forced both parents to work non-stop and spend less time raising our children. No that has no effect on society. It's all of these creative artists. Since when is being inventive and intellegent a bad characterstic. Soon he'll be saying that there should only be one religion and everyone should look like him.

I found this book to be much like being at a circus. I felt like I was being "hawked" to. You know how the carnival people try to get you to play the games by yelling in that sing song voice? That's what this audio book reminds me of.

While there were some funny comparisons made, it was not enough to make me jump for joy that I was listening to it. There is enough "doom and gloom" in society today and in the newspapers and on television, that I don't want to listen to someone tell me about all the problems in the world. Yes, I know our society has problems but since the people in government aren't going to make the changes, what can I do by listening to Mr. Beck tell me what I already know?

Of course, if you like this type of non-useful information and want to feel like you are on the midway at the local carnival, then by all means get a copy.

I loved the book, probably because it presents what might be called an "engineer's" view of current world problems -- rather than the picture we get from the politicians and media. Glenn's personal philosophy (and the account of some of his personal problems) gets in the way only briefly for a couple of chapters. The title is clearly an attraction for all people who hate Al Gore; but that portion of the book only comprises one (very well researched) chapter.

Wow. I guess I should read the book before writing a review but Glen didn't play GTA4 before ranting about it on his show. No one ever mentions in their rants about GTA that the things you CAN do in the game have nothing to do with what you should do. The game has a storyline and I guarantee that your descriptions are not part of it. It's called an open world game for a reason, because you live in a virtual world and can do anything. Of course, there are consequences so if the player did what you described, then the cops would step up their pursuit and arrest or kill the player. But I guess a complex virtual world that teaches people about the consequences of their actions doesn't make a very good paranoid tv rant...

Whether or not you agree with Beck's politics (I mostly do), he is pretty humble about himself and pokes plenty of good fun in his own direction making the book a humorous read, at least. But I felt that much could be sadly taken seriously and the more I read the more I felt that the completely non-issue chapters were out of place. Specifically, Blind-Dating, Movie Rental, Gratuities, and How to Remember Names were witty but just should have been in another collection. That leaves 17 chapters that I wish every college freshman would be required to read - fun, insightful, thought-provoking, and completely opposite of most campus political indoctrination (see chapter 8)! Because Beck's not a "serious news man" I don't think enough people give credence to his ideas - they should be part of the national dialog on the important issues, and this book is a way.

Took me two days to read this book & I read it for free. Thanks Oakland Public library! Thanks for the pictures, Glenn. Herein, I attempt to paraphrase Beck chapter by chapter.

1. Global Warming is real but Al Gore is a jerk and a hypocrite who doesn't understand the science he is referencing. We should combat global warming by ignoring it and pretending it magically corrects itself.(disagree on the last point)

2. Porn and booze are bad for relationships. (agree, thank you Capt. Obvious)

3. Killing Political Correctness will go a long way toward killing Islamic Fundamentalist who want to kill Americans and other free people. (agree)

4. Pop culture makes us all insecure about our bodies but fat people are gross. (I sense a contradiction)

5. Blind dating is humiliating (duh)

6. Poor people have poor family values & are immature, unrealistic and lazy. (hateful, ignorant & simplistic)

7. Foreign oil is bad for America because it forces America to hold hands with evil gov'ts & we could be doing more w/ our coal reserves (agree)

8. Colleges and universities are rife w/ liberal professors (common knowledge and personal experience in my case)

9. Politics has degenerated into hypocrisy and namecalling (and pundits are part of the problem, not the solution)

10. Chick flicks are lame (filler)

11. The liberal media hurts America. (& the conservative media doesn't?)

12. Political Correctness is Orwellian and anti-American (agree)

13. I don't like to tip because the employers should be forced to pay more. (Let's play pretend)

to be cont.

I greatly enjoyed "An Inconvenient Book" by Glenn Beck. The book is full of his trademark wry humor, and is printed on very heavy glossy paper stock, making this a book that is built to last. In the book Glenn covers what he sees as the biggest problems confronting the country today (and a few of his personal pet peeves). The book has color on most every page and a bevy of amusing and interesting insets with quotes, graphs, and funny illustrations.

Probably the best chapter in the book is the first, "Global Warming, Storming, and Conforming". This chapter not only refutes much of the scaremongering from the left on the subject, but takes to task the left's unwillingness to even discuss data contradicting the collectivist opinion. For more on this issue I recommend "Cool It" highly.

Other standout chapters are on the UN (the quotes from UN delegates are sobering, alarming, and illuminating); the real state of poverty in America; the flaws in the US educational system; and the final chapter, "Illegal Immigration: Behind the Lies". In the chapter on illegal immigration Glenn parts ways on the topic of the North American Union with brilliant conservative Michael Medved. I am normally allied with Medved's thoughts, but on this issue, I agree with Glenn, and after reading his rationale I think most honest thinkers will too.

Some of the topics Glenn takes on are petty compared to the rest (the chapters on tipping and how to remember names were particularly annoying for me), but overall I found this to be a funny and well argued book; in fact the only real areas I disagree with Glenn on are the evils of Wal-Mart and cats. Not too bad for a book that's a weighty 295 page behemoth. "An Inconvenient Book" is both serious and funny, and people who truly want to think about the issues from any political viewpoint should be open-minded to it. I recommend it highly.

Maybe it has been said in some other reviews already, but I'll make sure it is said here: An Inconvenient Book if nothing else is of a college text book level in paper quality and print quality. Sadly, I will reject some books at the bookstore for purchase due solely to small font size &/or poor print quality. Now Beck's book is built to last! I think I'll pass my copy down to my favorite son. As for content, An Inconvenient Book has been the only book in the last five years that I have read that has made me feel proud of my accomplishment while reading a book! Just so you know what I am talking about, I found Hobo! I am just too challenged to perform crossword puzzles, sudoku, or those backward up diagonal word searches. But I found Hobo! I found him! If you get Beck's book, look on pages 262 - 263, and see if you can find Hobo too (no, I'm not going to tell you which page he's on). As for what is going on as presented in the last chapter, Beck says it in so many words... it's the Tabula! See I told you they are real. Yes, this last best hope of mankind is under assault, and not all is as it seems. (Sorry guys you'll just have to read my other reviews.)
P.S. Which one of you guys said this is a fast read? Are you on speed? I mean holding this monster on my lap and only reading it during the commercials of the Glenn Beck (TV) Show took me a month of Sundays.

This book reads like a collection of extended sound bites from Glenn Beck's television and radio shows. It is perfect for someone who does not like to dwell on anyone thing for very long. The focus on a given subject is brief. The writing team jumps around among a great diversity of subjects in the space of a few pages.
The lack of an index and bibliography and not taking the time to determine the sex of The Governor (yes she is a Democrat but that is no excuse) of our Great Evergreen State of Washington (see page 151) indicates that this work was slapped together in haste.
The two stars are for some of the sensible viewpoints and political positions briefly expressed the various sound bites in print.

I recommend this for conservatives who want a laugh. Liberals, beware! Glenn uses humor where you might not expect it, and you might think he's serious when he's not. But if you can stand some light reading, then go for it.

If he hadn't included such silly things like the chapter about tipping, I would probably give this 5 stars. It is a good overview of how conservatives think.

This book offers a practical, humorous, and wise view of the world today. I don't agree with some of Glenn's crazy theories but they are interesting!

1. The book is about as wacky as his radio program, especially the A.D.D. Moments where he goes off the subject completely.

2. He keeps each section short and concise.

3. There are lots of pictures, similar to Inconvenient Truth (IT), but compared to IT it has more.

4. I read IT by Al Gore, dry but interesting. Glenn includes numerous other topics unrelated to Global Warming/Environment. This alone makes it a little more interesting.

I would say that between the two books you get a pretty balanced view of what's happening in the world, not that this book is a direct refutation against IT.

The only thing I thought should have been in the book was a list of references for the information, but then again, it was written more to entertain than inform. It was a whole lot more fun to read this than IT by Al.

Glenn has written an insightful book that gives you the truth behind the media spin. His writing style gets your attention and helps you understand what is really going on in the world without pandering.

Even if you don't think that you're in the mood for a political sort of book, Beck's newest release is worth your time. It's not a Thomas Sowell-sort of book where you're really going to need a pencil and paper to keep track of thoughts and ideas, and there's more color illustrations here than your average copy of USA Today, but it's also pretty clear that he's done his homework on his topics. In addition, his takes on dating, tipping, and weight loss/gain are entertaining and enlightening at the same time. It's a light but informative read, and it's worth it.

Let me start by saying I am not a 37 year old graduate student who is afraid to enter the real world where my liberal ideas don't work.

I am a 37 year old federal agent, with over ten years of EXPERIENCE in the real world (both local and federal law enforcement). Oh yeah, and I was accepted to get my graduate degree after my bachelors, but decided to get some real experience instead.

That said, this is a great book. Unlike the bobbleheads on the Daily Show, Beck is a normal guy who actually has the GALL to question liberalism. If you've ever heard his radio show, the book is written in the same dynamic prose. Are you "dumb" enough to question MAN-MADE global warming? Well, I am. And Beck hits the matter right on the head. There are so many other more probable theories behind the cause of global warming (and global cooling). To just simply and blindly blame "man" is absurd, and is not logical. Do the research yourself. Explain to me why dinosaurs perished when the earth suddenly cooled, or why there has been a documented cycle of global warming and global cooling periods since the dawn of the Earth. It's funny how the "documented evidence" provided by liberals can be turned right back around to disprove man-made global warming theories.

I could go on and on, but if you are a common sensical person (and common sense is not so common, I have found) then you will cherish this book.

(Hide Review...)  If hatemongers are all this entertaining I'm in

First off, yes this is aimed at conservative minded people in the politically directed pages of this book, however this book is extremely entertaining. The book's design is amazing I can't say I have read many books that cosmetically look this good. It really looks great.

The book is also more than political commentary even though many naysayers about this book will only quote the politics. If you have any kind of sense of humor you should enjoy some of this book. Some people didn't like Glenn's ADD moments, I thought they were great. The chapter on movie rentals is hilarious, if you don't think so then you might need to do some soul searching to see who is the real hatemonger. The chapter was awesome any book with the description "laser-movie" is a must read in my book. But alas us poor uneducated fools who like Beck probably think paint drying is funny.

If you lean towards the liberal ideals then you won't like the chapters dealing in politics or social issues. But if you are going to read this book so you can get some ammo on that evil, hatemonger, racist, bigot Beck you have to at least enjoy the chapters that are solely for entertainment. Heck, I liked Al Franken's "Stuart Smalley" character on SNL, but can't stand the guy in the political field.

Sure this book has some typos but I can't say I have ever seen a perfect book or essay or *cough* review *cough*. This book isn't source marked either which I am sure is some more ammo. Glenn Beck has never said he is speaking purely of facts and comes right out and says he is speaking his opinion. Yes, heaven forbid a conservative express his opinion through that right that so many liberals claim is theirs. It is found somewhere in that Constitution thing and somewhere near the front of those amending dealies, I think. Glenn is no different in this book, he expresses his opinion quite a bit.

If you are looking for a good entertaining book and have a more conservative mind you should like this one. If you hate Beck as much as Bush you should probably like this book too, because it gives so much more to blog about and become infuriated over.

When it all comes down to getting this book or not, remember it talks about laser movies, very important. But honestly the book was great all around. Read it cause you love him or hate him, it's informative and/or entertaining.
