I love to crochet gifts for people and this is the perfect solution for making a gift that's not your typical baby blanket. The illustrations are great and the directions are very straight-forward. My one complaint is that I'm not a very good sewer, but practice makes perfect! These are the cutest amigurumi I've ever seen! Love it, Love it! You don't have to be an expert to make them either. The patterns are very easy, all you need to do is count and use a stitch marker (I use a safety pin!). Great Book!!

Easy but...
I liked the patterns in here they are seriously cute and after a few attempts I got them. BUT...I had a few problems and I think they might be the fact that I am a true beginner and not experienced. like it took me a awhile to get that SC 1 , 2 sc in next sc, meant to SC in next SC then do 2 SC in the next SC after that first one. I don't know why. I felt like an idiot. but in general. the patterns are all SC and a few decreases and were easy. Which meant that that they were repetitive. I don't know why we needed baby monkey and his daddy. and elephant and his daddy. I also didn't get that the ami were inside out until I read a review so the two that are shown in the pictures above are inside out. *sigh* I wish she had said that somewhere. I also wish that each pattern has said exactly what felt what embroidery etc was needed. although I guess it was such a minute amount. but I found myself thinking oh yeah I should have bought pink thread to sew my pink felt. duh. but the results are cute and I love them and everyone loves them and wants me to make them for them so a great buy!!! When my daughter turned one all of the cousins came over and found this on my bookshelf. I had to make a list to keep track of all the "orders" I received for christmas and b-day presents. The little turtle seems to be really popular.

This book is really good. I haven't tried the patterns yet, but they look reasonably easy to follow and the animals are just fabulous. I like the section with one big and one small animal as it is not so easy to change that yourself othervise. Now I just have to learn how to crochet.

I've crocheted for a while but just recently discovered amigurumi. It's a wonderful hobby - you can use up your odds & ends of yarn and whipping up an adorable little doll gives you an instant sense of mastery. The amis in this book are very seriously cute, with a flair that I haven't seen in other books. If you're creative, you can put your own little touches on a pattern very easily: for example, I had some variegated peaches & cream colored yarn and used the apple pattern to make a peach (I also changed the leaf using felt). The only thing lacking is a good explanation of the basic crochet stitches, and the Sctog/single crochet decrease was not mentioned at all even though it is a very important thing to know when working in the round. That would prevent me from recommending the book to a rank beginner, but anyone with a decent knowledge of the basic techniques will have no problem. I can't wait to make more of these sweet little creatures!

This book is fantastic. I am slightly beyond a beginner at crochet and most patterns confuse me. Not these. I quickly whipped up the mother octopus and am now working on the baby penguin. They are too cute. I highly recommend this book and am logged in to see if this author has more.

I own this book and also "Amigurumi: Super Happy Cute Crochet" by Elisabeth Doherty, and also "Kyuuto Japanese Crafts: Amugurumi", so it is difficult for me not to compare this book to those. I happen to like this book the best out of the three, but there are aspects of the other books that are superior. In the Kyuuto Book there are very helpful illustrations for each pattern of how/where to attach all of the limbs. This book does not have those illustrations, so getting the exact limb placement is difficult. In the Amugurumi book by Elisabeth Doherty, she gives a color photograph of an actual size "universal gauge swatch" which is marvelous to have. The patterns in this book do not have a particular gauge, although the author does mention that her tension is quite tight, and how many stitches she gets per inch. However, although I know that gauge is not extrememly important for patterns like this, I like having gauge for all patterns that I do, or something like the universal gauge swatch that Elisabeth Doherty provides. Another thing that I like about Elisabeth Doherty's book better than this book is that she provides the exact yarn that she uses for each pattern. This book will simply say "worsted weight yarn in orange", but if you really like the color that is used in the book it would be helpful if she stated the exact brand and color of yarn used, maybe in a resource section at the end of the book. For example, in the Lion Pattern, I really like the shades of gold and orange that the author used, but I am having a difficult time locating them. If she stated the brand and color, I could easily locate these yarns on the internet. Out of the apx. 6 projects I have made (Mommy Owl, Mommy Penguin, Puppy, Happy Eggs, tiny ami duck/bear/rabbit, and Smiling Dessert cup) one pattern is incomplete, the "Cafe Con Leche Cup" from the "Smiling Desserts"; the pattern is only written to round 7, but from what I can tell by looking at the photograph there should be about 15 rounds total. But from my experience, I have yet to find a crochet book without any errors.
Having said all of this though, this is a fantastic little book, and I only wish there were more projects to do! The projects are quick and easy, and very cute. My kids like to look through the book, and tell me what they want me to make, and in fact I am working on the Daddy Lion, and the Little Pear right now. Patterns included in this book are: Valentines Bears (boy and girl bears), baby lion and his daddy, puppy and his daddy, baby monkey and her daddy, baby penguin and her mommy, baby owl and her mommmy, baby hedgehog and her mommy, boy and girl elephants, baby octopus and her mommy, mr. and mrs. cactus, happy eggs, smiling desserts, tiny ami, little pear and little apple with worm. The author sells other patterns on etsy, I tried to contact her about patterns for house pets, such as guinea pigs, hamsters, hermit crabs, etc...I think these would be really fun to crochet because they could be crocheted to look like a child's pet, but she never responded to me. Oh well! For any amigurumi crochet designers, or publishers out there, I think an amigurumi "pet" book would be a great idea!!! All in all, very well done! I am really looking forward to another book by this author, and will be the first to pre-order it when it becomes available! (As a side note, I acidentally clicked 4 stars, when I really meant 5, when I tried to come back in and edit this, Amazon would not let me. Sorry to the author.......I really think your book is a 5 star book!) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-31 09:06:23 EST)

This book is super. Ana's patterns are clear, easy to understand and completely "do-able." She does a great job of detailing the needed items at the beginning and lets you know about alternatives to using expensive items. So, with that said, happy crocheting!

I had always thought crocheting was a little hard to pick up. The illustrations in this book are wonderful. They show how each stitch is made with accurate color illustrations. And not to mention the patterns. I really love how cute and easy every single pattern in this book is. A definite steal for the amount of good quality content found inside. I love it!

Recently, I decided to start crocheting again and didn't want to make a bunch of afghans. When I found this book, it was the perfect answer. The instructions are pretty easy to follow for a beginner. There were a few things that I had to figure out on my own, like when I realized that I had the animal pieces all inside out. Also, it is important to use the suggested hook size and yarn type or your stuffing will show through the gaps in the stitches and your felt pieces will be too small. I found this out the hard way when I used a sport weight yarn and a hook that was too big. There are illustrations for all of the stitches, but you mostly use a single crochet stitch. Once you get the basic concepts down, you can tweak the designs or come up with new designs. It's really addictive and a great way to make inexpensive children's gifts!

The patterns in this book are very simple and easy to read and mostly consists of single crochet. The projects are extremely cute as promised and the results are sure to make your friends and family "ooo" and "ahh". My only complaint would be that the descriptions of how to do the stitiches in the begining of the book are not very clear, I ended up looking up youtube videos of how to do the stitiches (very helpful).

This is the second of three books I purchased on amigurumi. To be honest, I bought it because the pictures on the front were so adorable that they put me on a hunt for the author on the internet. I found her blog, which is terrific, and then I bought her book. I'm glad I did, because this book is definitely for the beginning crocheter. There are no assumptions that the reader has any more than a rudimentary knowledge of crochet and the directions are very clear.
The patterns are very simple and that's the strength of this book, in my opinion. After making several toys from this book, I was able to make my own "freestyle" patterns. I adapted her hedgehog pattern, along with the donkey pattern from the Kyuuto book (another excellent resource) and made an amigurumi alpaca. Go figure. Although all of the patterns have the same basic look, this book, more than the others, has gotten me to experiment and create my own little beasts without written directions. That's a huge step for a beginner at crochet and quite an accomplishment for an author. I highly recommend this book as the first book you purchase on amigurumi. It will give you a good start, use up your yarn stash, and move you towards creating your own designs. As mentioned already, the author has a lovely blog where she shares a few free patterns with her readers and shows off her latest creations. [...] (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-03 08:08:51 EST)

I had never seen Amigurumi before I saw this book. The creatures are adorable and sooo easy to make. I've made a few already - intended as gifts, but my children are begging for them. They think the animals are the cutest things ever. I love buying yarn but never know what to do with it. Now I know. And did I mention EASY!?!

I've had some experience with crochet in the past and I was looking to get back into it through these dolls. After a couple of books on dolls that weren't very simple, I found this one! All of the patterns are easily explained and easy to put together. I would recommend this book to anyone just starting to back into crochet.

I own several Amigurumi books and like all of them. I made the girl elephant and just did yarn eyes as it's for a toddler. Instructions are easy to follow and I plan on making several more. The monkeys, dogs, and octupus are calling to me. Instructions are all written out with no Japanese type charts. The author writes in an encouraging way and the beginner can just hop right in. Highly recommended and I hope she comes out with a second book.

I just started crocheting about four months ago, and for the most part, the patterns are easy to follow. I had a little trouble with the back post crochet, but I think it's because I'm a beginner. I just left it out and added a row of chain stitches sewn onto the top (for the baby monkey - for some reason, it worked fine for me on the eggs!). I've done two of the projects and can't decide which to do next!

I've ordered a few of Ana Paula Rimoli's crochet patterns from her etsy store. They're fantastic. So when I heard she had a book coming out, I had to give it a whirl. What I got were a bunch of adorable, well-written, easy to follow patterns. I've made two of them already, and they're so easy. I highly recommend this book to beginners of amigurumi especially. You'll be pro in no time!

Ana is an Amigurumi Guru that graciously shares these sweet, simple patterns with us. The patterns are very easy to understand, and the photos delightful. I found only one teensy, minor errata so far that was easily worked through and when I went to her blog to let her know, it was already posted. The only problem you will have with this book is deciding which one to make first. If you love Amigurumi, this is a must have.

Amigurumi World is by far the best amigurumi book I have purchased/borrowed to date. The patterns consistently produce cute items, whereas I have gotten some awkward results from similar books. "Amigurumi World" is great for all levels. You will be churning out oodles of cute stuff in no time with this book. If you're deciding between this book and another, look no further. This is the one you want.

A beautiful and inspiring book with lovely crotchet patterns and easy to follow instructions. Well written with lovely illustrations and a great introduction to the yarn, hooks and stitches needed for the projects. Perfect for anyone beginning crochet or interested in designing their own amigurumi creatures. It's great value too. A fantastic book, I look forward to the next one.

This book is so wonderful! It's so cute and quirky, I love all the great photos of the amigurumi, and the patterns are incredibly detailed. Not a single step is left out; I only learned to crochet a few months ago, but I'm already whizzing through many of these cute animals! They are so quick to make and they make such adorable gifts! This book would be a great addition to any new crocheters library who wants something quick, fun, and even funky to do! It gives you such a sense of accomplishment when you fully complete a little animal!

These are very cute and easy to crochet. Like the other reviewer said many things are done using a single crochet . The author also has a etsy shop and blog so check those out if you want to see more of her style. What I wanted to know before I bought it was what patterns are included:
Valentine Bears,Baby lion and his daddy, puppy and his daddy, baby monkey and her daddy, baby penguin and her mommy, baby owl and her mommy, baby hedgehog and her mommy, boy and girl elephants, baby octupus and her mommy, mr and mrs cactus, happy eggs, cafe con leche cup , cupcake , ice-cream cone, tiny ami that are: mouse ,bunny, cat, bear, turtle, and duck, also a little pear and a little apple with a worm. The toys are made with worsted weight yarn size g/6 ,f/5 ,or e/4 hooks. You will also need polyester fiberfill, a tapestry needle, felt and safety eyes or embroidery floss. I just got it and I have already made 3 bunny a duck and a little egg with a chick inside for easter gifts . They are all super cute don't take much yarn to make and work up fast!!!! I bought this book, and it is amazing. The patterns are absolutely adorable, and very easy to make. All of the little animals are almost completely done in single crochet, so any beginner with a little bit of experience can make these. The instructions are clear and straight-forward. I can't wait to make every single pattern in this book!
