I liked this book while using the Illustrator software. It is easy to use, well-organized, and user friendly. Any graphic designer will enjoy this how-to even when they are just a beginning designer. My design skills are not advanced, with this book, the definite how-to's will do wonders for any novice designer!

My husband asked me to find a book of some kind for Adobe Illustrator because he knew WHAT he wanted to do, but couldn't figure out HOW. I did the research on my favorite site (Amazon!) and picked this one. He loves it!! He's been going through chapter by chapter and learning all kinds of new stuff. Thank you Amazon.com, and thanks to all the posters for the reviews.

Generally a good book and handy tutorial. The CD is helpful and the books give users a quick aptitude for the programs. Which is what we want. I give this three stars for the one big problem I have with this and the rest of the Classroom in a Book series: they are often inaccurate! There are a lot of frustrating little inaccuracies that make the user wonder if he has gone crazy or is doing something wrong. Please, Adobe, edit these books a little more carefully!

I bought this book because it was required for a graphic art class. We went through the first 5 chapters, and now we are going to learn Photoshop. It is not good as a reference book, but more as a step-by-step "cookbook". The accompanying CD was very helpful in learning techniques. Anyone want to buy it from me?

I've been working with Illustrator over the past months, and this book helps me to understand some quite useful topics. The books is writen in a easy-to-follow way, so you can go chapter by chapter, or just jump to a desired function. Also, the book is full of highlighted items, so its easy to follow one example that leads you to new and useful tips and tricks.

Two different orders made on same day, Amazon charged me for product twice and sent me two copies of the book I had ordered. I despise overseas customer service! Could not understand them, period! Website said they would not need verification of my account since I had contacted them through the website, Wrong! I am curious I they were dinking around or if the website is wrong. I do not trust them now with my information. Second attempt got english speaking person, maybe American, but seemed the be standoff-ish as if they could tell I had called before. Said my problem could have been a cookie that was on my computer from the Amazon website and this was why the item was sent twice. Given a couple of drawn out solutions. Very frustrating! Found link to send book back to Amazon as a wrong ordered item. I was not given this option on the phone. I want them to have their property back and I want it done quick so I don't have to pay interest on the charge on my account for this item. Absolute nightmare! I could have bought local, saved money and my time! I'll go elsewhere!!!!

I signed up for a computer graphics illustrator class at the college and after the first week almost dropped out. A friend sugested I buy ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR CLASSROOM IN A BOOK. With the aid of the book I learned the program, applied my creative skills, completed the class with an A grade. The ADOBE CLASSROOM IN A BOOK series has been a real help to me.

I really like this book because it helped me learn new things that wasn't taught in school. I which I had bought this book and others like it before I spent so much money going to graphic design school online.

This books gives a very thorough walk-through of Illustrator CS2. If you already have knowledge of other design software, or have lightly used Illustrator previously, the chapters are set up in a methodical manner that are easy to follow and cover all of the options available in this powerful software. The book comes with a CD containing practice files, which further enhances the learning experience.
Over the past year I had taught myself how to use Illustrator, but going through this book has completely raised my level of expertise.
It does help if you are not a complete novice, but if you are, you will learn everything you need to know to create vector art.

I have CS2 and found this to be a solid introduction to the basics of this complicated program. Much in the tradition of the Photoshop7 book. Do every lesson 2-3 times if you are new to Photoshop.

Adobe do it again. Very useful and comprehensive guide to Illustrator CS2. Fun to work through with great attention to detail. Always my first choice for learning a new application..

I ordered this book for work so I could gain a better grasp of Illustrator CS 2. So far the book has been very helpful with easy to follow instructions and lessons on a CD. I haven't completed every lesson, but I like what i've learned so far. It lists short cuts too which is a big help!

Being a newbie in the graphics arts department, I have purchased a few books on the subject (forget the Adobe help section!), and while "CS2 In A Classroom" is more or less "official" Adobe stuff, it is written so that one like myself with just a little experience with Illustrator can duplicate and understand the material, having to "fill in" on occassion when a subject seems to be a bit glossed over. If you're on my level, get the book. You'll be glad you did.

This book goes over the basic functions of most tools present in Illustrator.

Lots of good examples and hints, but it would be better if all the examples they used were explained in detail on how they were actually made, along with their guidelines. Also some index words point to wrong pages.

What is it about the Classroom in a Book series that I devour like ice cream in the middle of August in Texas? It has to do with the richness of the presentation, the simplicity of design and the total coverage of material that you don't get in the box with the CD, or more importantly buy direct online and dont have a manual.

If you are starting out and don't know squat about CS2 Illustrator, or are migrating from another drawing program, you need this to get by. You need this too if your upgrading from older versions. What the hell, you just laid major coin on Illustrator, now dig a bit deeper and get to know all of what you invested all those late nights in paying for Illustrator.

I started learning Illustrator CS2 after buying CS2 Standard Edition. I have gone through this book twice so that I can fully understand what this book offers. I am not sure where I would have begun with Illustrator without this book. The book/lessons are well organized and associated workshop files in the CD compliment the whole process of learning this complex vector-based graphic program. I recommend this book to anyone who has just started learning this program or who is interested in brushing up various aspects of Illustrators.
I am now moving on to Illustrator Wow book and Illustrator CS2 @ Work book to learn Illustrator from different angles.

Very helpful to get a look at all the features (and there are many) of Illustrator. It is not an in-depth review of all of Illustrator's capabilities, but it leads one in the right direction to explore on your own.

This is the first time that I've written a recommendation for a book, but I'm so excited about Adobe Illustrator CS2 Classroom in a Book, I have to share my impressions with prospective buyers. Simply stated, after stumbling around in other Illustrator books, this one at last is what I've been looking for all along. All computer books should be designed and written like this one. It's organized like a classroom lesson guide, and the step by step instructions are concise, immediate, and so far as I can tell, leave nothing out. The overall impression is of having a truly competent instructor leaning over your shoulder. By the time I finished the introductory lesson, "A quick tour of Adobe Illustrator CS2," I'd learned more about this wonderful application than I had learned on my own in many months of blood, sweat, and tears! Not to mention undoing some bad habits I had developed, and showing me the quickest and most effective ways to accomplish the bedrock basics of Illustrator. After all, the book was written by the same people who invent each new release of Illustrator, so the logic of their approach is... well, logical. Add to this an instinctive feel for the mystical science of teaching, and you have in my opinion the perfect book for really learning Adobe Illustrator CS2. I heartily recommend it! Oh, yes, it's in full color, too.

This is THE Illustrator book. It's the official book from Adobe press, the official training workbook from Adobe Systems, it's even written by Adobe (well ... people at Adobe). This new edition is printed in full color, a great improvement over earlier books that were mostly black and white with a small section of full color pages.

Color is important in Illustrator because a very small percentage of the work you'll be doing is in black and white. If the book is telling you something about color and illustrating it in black and white, it's hard to know what they are talking about.

This book has fifteen lessons that you can complete very quickly if you know what they are talking about but take longer if you're a complete beginner. The first lesson starts out with a simulated advertisement and gets you started making changes to the ad. This approach is helpful in remembering what the various tools you've used really do. Primarily in tutorial style, this book is a supplement to the reference type documentation supplied with Illustrator. It provides a good way to get started and to have a complete presentation with logical flow from start to finish.

The CD supplied with the book contains illustrations from the lessons, a collection of fonts, and other materials.

All in all, this book is well written, simple to follow, tells you enough to become if not a true expert, at least an advanced intermediate user. What more can you ask out of a book?
