I always like a Flynn book. But this one seemed a little slower than some of his earlier works.
I really would like to give it 4.5 stars but since there is no such thing I will give it 4 and let you know that it is better than a 4 rating.
The characters and their development were good just slow in taking form and really getting to the down and dirty.

An attack on the top presidential candidate's motorcade leaves the candidate's girlfriend, her assigned Secret Service agent and many onlookers dead. Was it a terrorist attack or a conspiracy more sinister? Enter Mitch Rapp, legendary member of the CIA's Clandestine Services team. While his methods are questionable there is no denying his results.

Reminded me of an 80's-type action movie starring Steven Seagal. Not to say this is a bad thing, if that's what you enjoy. The story flows quickly and doesn't bog down with much exposition.

I won't go into the plot details, as other reviewers have done so extensively. I was actually glad to see some of the other characters return. Readers also have to expect that things are going to change. I like that Flynn shook things up a bit. This is a hard-hitting book and, as usual, VF gets it right. Mitch Rapp is probably my favorite character in fiction right now, along with Jack Reacher, Elvis Cole (and of course Joe Pike) and some by Nelson DeMille.

This story starts with a bang and the action keeps going. Maybe because I'm a fast reader and tend to go through books quicker than I want (I'll stay up all night to read), the length doesn't bother me. I look for long books. So that complaint from some other reviewers was actually a reward for me. Every word from Vince Flynn is a gem. He's still at the top of his game, and this is a book that I've read twice. Not my very favorite, but still great.

This was my first Vince Flynn novel, and thus my introduction to Mitch Rapp. I listened to the audio-book, and found it to be pure fun from start to end. I admit that, looking back, the book does seem a bit light and unashamedly manipulative. It's not the kind of book that I would normally rate as a 5 star book. Yet I found myself riveted throughout. Without even reading other reader reviews, I too thought of the TV series 24 throughout the book. Act of Treason does not have all the twists and turns of a 24 series, but Mitch Rapp might as well be Jack Bauer. The novel makes up for fewer plot twists with a sense of humor that is skillfully intermingled with the action and suspense. Most thrillers bore me these days, but this didn't. I think that it was a very well paced story. This is not a great novel. It's light beach-reading, but it's a light thriller that was tons of fun to me. I will certainly try another Vince Flynn novel, though I usually get bored with sequels and series. This was too enjoyable to not go back for seconds.

Great book! I am a big fan of Vince Flynn and always enjoy reading his books. Mitch Rapp is extremely like-able with his no nonsense attitude and approach to a situation.

Say what you will about "24", but it's unpredictable and riveting. After the first segment, "Act of Treason" is laughably predictable and completely devoid of even a drop of adrenaline. It's just heavy-handed right-wing drivel, using the most ham-handed and contrived scenarios and characters imaginable to make its grotesquely oversimplified, ends-justify-the-means, good versus evil arguments.

From the technology to the plausibility to the characterizations, Vince Flynn writes with the depth of silly 8 year old.

If you like the TV series "24", you will like this book and any of the Mitch Rapp series.

Absolutely another great thriller except the ending. This is the second Flynn book in a row that I have read that needed a better ending. Up until the ending I was ready to give this book a five star plus. Flynn had me so drawn into the book that I actually was in a hurry for the bad guys to get discovered and punished, but Flynn was too concerned about his next novel to give this one a proper ending.

When writing my first novel, al-Qaeda Strikes Again, one of my proof readers said that I should give my book a better ending and not worry about setting up a beginning for my next book which is what Flynn did in Act of Treason. The most important parts of a novel are the beginning and the ending. When Flynn tries to bridge the ending of one book into the beginning of his next book then he robs the reader even if the reader reads all his books in order, but it was even worst than that as the ending was wham bam that's it! Part on the ending for this book is the beginning of Protect and Defend: A Thriller and in that book the beginning has no connection with the rest of the book.

The ending in this book was the worst that I have read in an otherwise fabulous thriller.

While this was only by second foray into Vince Flynn's universe (I tend to read more historical fiction), I loved it and couldn't put it down from the first paragraph. "Act of Treason" is indeed incredibly fast-paced, timely and relvant (considering the upcoming elections, terrorism, etc) and the character of Mitch Rapp fully defined and heroically intriguing. I have to agree with some other reivewers that the ending was somewhat abrupt and flat. However, taken as a whole, I loved the novel and highly recommend it for readers interested in fast-paced political espionage, or simply a quick, fun, adventurous read!

Big Ludlum fan turned to Vince Flynn. This is a fascinating, fast paced political thriller that is extremely well-written. His stories are fiction but certainly based on a great deal of reality. A master storyteller with a great attention to accuracy and detail.

This wet dream for the right wing is just plain silly. Another Good Guy with a name that sounds like a cough. He's so tough, he's even tougher than that hot female secret service agent who whips all the NORMAL secret service wimpy guys in martial arts. Now, that's tough!

The bad guys are Democrats, one of which had the philandering wife of his running mate rubbed out (good riddance -- she's as bad as that woman who messed around with Newt Gingrich! Oh, wait -- he divorced his wife and married that woman!). This Dem is so unbelievably nefarious that he leaks secrets (Just like that . . . that . . . that treasonous JERK who leaked CIA agent Valerie Plame's identity to that liberal commie at CNN) to the incredibly biased New York Times (almost as bad as that pinko outfit Fox News that reported on Obama's energy plan that urges people to save energy by keeping their tires full of air, then immediately after the story advertised how to get an "Obama's goofy energy plan" tire gauge for a $25 donation to the Republicans! Alert!! Media bias!!)!!!

Fortunately for the free world, our hero manages to convince the American people that torture is OK, having put together a really convincing Power Point presentation that his boss at the CIA shows on TV. After that, he's free to just kill most of the rest of the bad guys, you know, just kind of walk up and shoot them. Woo hoo! America rocks! And he's a good shot, too! Kind of wish we'd done that to that evil nefarious guy who spread anthrax around after 9/11, what was his name, Steve Hatfill -- no, wait, he didn't do it! Shoot! Or wait, DON'T shoot!

Don't read this. This is a ridiculous book. Read John LeCarre instead -- oh, wait, Liberals aren't supposed to read LeCarre, so only read him if you're a Conservative. OK?

This book seems a little less dramatic. Perhaps because politicians are a target of terrorists? Harvesting the fruits of bad labors if you ask me. Otherwise, a truly enjoyable book. The storyline is just a little less punchy.
