A Walk to Remember

There was a time when the world was sweeter....when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats.... Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister....Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living. The inspiration for this novel came from Nicholas Sparks's sister: her life and her courage. From the internationally bestselling author Nicholas Sparks, comes his most moving story yet....
In the prologue to his latest novel, Nicholas Sparks makes the rather presumptuous pledge "first you will smile, and then you will cry," but sure enough, he delivers the goods. With his calculated ability to throw your heart around like a yo-yo (try out his earlier Message in the Bottle or The Notebook if you really want to stick it to yourself), Sparks pulls us back to the perfect innocence of a first love.

In 1958 Landon Carter is a shallow but well-meaning teenager who spends most of his time hanging out with his friends and trying hard to ignore the impending responsibilities of adulthood. Then Landon gets roped into acting the lead in the Christmas play opposite the most renowned goody two-shoes in town: Jamie Sullivan. Against his best intentions and the taunts of his buddies, Landon finds himself falling for Jamie and learning some central lessons in life.

Like John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany, Sparks maintains a delicate and rarely seen balance of humor and sentiment. While the plot may not be the most original, this boy-makes-good tearjerker will certainly reel in the fans. Look for a movie starring beautiful people or, better yet, snuggle under the covers with your tissues nearby and let your inner sap run wild. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien

There was a time when the world was sweeter . . . when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats. . . when something happened to a seventeen year-old boy that would change his life forever.

Every April, when the wind blows in from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High.

It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister.

A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out.

Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood . . .

No other author today touches our emotions more deeply than Nicholas Sparks. Illuminating both the strength and the gossamer fragility of our deepest emotions, his two New York Times bestsellers, The Notebook and Message in a Bottle, have established him as the leading author of today's most cherished love stories. Now, in A WALK TO REMEMBER, he tells a truly unforgettable story, one that glimmers with all of his magic, holding us spell-bound -- and reminding us that in life each of us may find one great love, the kind that changes everything . . .

Landon looks back on his life, and how it changed when he was seventeen. He is a senior in high school that year, in his small town in North Carolina. His father, a politician who is never home much, is worried about Landon getting into college with his grades and lack of activities, so he pressures Landon into running for class president. Although Landon isn't very excited about the idea, he does it and wins. That means he has to find a date for a dance on very short notice, since all class officers have to attend and Landon doesn't want to go by himself. He hadn't planned on going, and he knows most of the girls he knows already have dates. In desperation, he asks Jamie Sullivan, daughter of a local preacher whose wife died when Jamie was born.

Jamie is very odd and doesn't really have any friends at all. She is nice and sweet to everyone, and always carries around a Bible wherever she goes. She is very into religion, she volunteers at an orphanage, and all of the other high school kids think she is very strange and stay away from her. When Landon asks her to go to the dance, she agrees. The dance is a disaster from Landon's point of view, but Jamie says she had a wonderful time and is happy Landon asked her.

Later that year, Landon, one of the only two boys in the senior drama class, is chosen to be the male lead in the annual Christmas play written by Jamie's father. The female lead is played by Jamie. As they attend rehearsals, Jamie seems to like Landon more and more. She asks him to walk her home and she is always happy to see him. Landon isn't sure how he feels, especially when all of his friends are making fun of him for going out with Jamie. Then, on the night of the play, everything changes.

This story was just far too perfect. The characters fell right into line, Landon fell in love with Jamie for some unknown reason, just in time for heartbreaking tragedy. The book was cliche and a bit insulting, as the author seemed to believe he didn't have to do anything to explain why Landon would ever have fallen for Jamie. Honestly, she was so perfect and sweet and overbearingly religious, I'm not surprised nobody in her high school class liked her.

What can i say about this book? it's incredibly beautiful. Not only is the story amazing, but Spark's style of writing is profound, poignant, timeless. I cried during this book. Sparks writes with such clarity that it's soo easy to see the scenery. I gave this book to my little sister and she loved it. It's for any age. I saw the movie after i read the book and was SOOO mad! The movie is beyond stupid. Please, get this book.

Landon and Jamie live two completely different lives. Landon is a rebel; he soaps up car windows with his friends and eats boiled peanuts in the graveyard. But Jamie on the other hand, takes care of her windowed father, volunteers at the local orphanage and carries a bible with her wherever she goes. They live just a few streets away from each other, but hardly know each other. But things change when Landon finds him self without a date to the homecoming dance, and he has no other choice than to ask Jamie. She agrees to go with him, although her father, the towns Baptist Minister, doesn't like him at all. After the dance Jamie asks Landon to play one of the main roles in the Christmas play her father has written. Landon doesn't really want to, but finally he agrees.

When the rehearsals start for the play, Jamie and Landon begin to spend a lot of time together, and the more Landon gets to know her, the more he understands and likes her. On the night of the play, he can't help but fall in love with her. Jamie seems to feel the same way, but there is one thing that she keeps from him. Jamie has Leukemia and doesn't have much time to live. When Landon has to face this fact, he knows that there is only one thing that he can do- ask for her hand in marriage.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes love stories. In the prologue of the book, Nicholas Sparks writes, "at first it will make you smile, then you will laugh, and then you will cry". He is so right. The miracle in the end makes you so happy, but at the same time makes you cry because Landon was Jamie's miracle. She changed him into this amazing young man, and then he finds out that she has leukemia. This is another great work of Nicholas Sparks, but may not end as happy as you would like it to.

This is a beautiful love story. I saw the movie first and was unsure that I wanted to read the book and have it ruin the movie for me. It seems more often than not the book is better. It wasn't and I now love them both. I would recommend this book for Jr. High students up to adults. There is no content unsuitable for the YA.

A Walk to Remember.
To those that know Sparks's writing, may just be able to read the title and know that crying will be involved.
This was the first book I read by Sparks. Afterwards, I am eager to read more.

A Walk to Remember is told as a narrative through the main character, Landon.
It's compelling to see how Landon's heart is changed due to the presence and good will of Jamie Sullivan. Jamie is a senior that no one understands. She is always carrying her Bible and is always speaking of the Lord's plan. Landon is sure that he will never fall for a girl like her.

The book takes your emotions on a rollercoaster with loops and turns.
It will having you laughing out loud and crying in bed, nothing can prevent that.

It really is a story of hope and love. A story that tries to tell you what love can do and what it may overcome.
Even though you may guess the ending or figure it out before you read it, it still hits you harder than ever when you read the words.

Beautifully written, wonderful plot.
I loved this story.

I think that a walk to remember was one of the best books ever. I liked the book a lot better then the story, yes the whole plot for both were practically the same, but the ending was different. I liked the ending better in the book, rather the movie; I believe there was more depth to it. It was a very sad book, but I think it was a happy ending in a special kind of way. I believe all sad stories have a happy ending, even if it is sad and depressing, but it eventually turns out happy later on. This book really touched me, because in school most people don't treat people the way they want to be treated, but in the end when you actually get to know that person, and you listen to them, then you can get to see that they are actually human, and that they have feelings, and everything a normal person has.

I thought this book opened a lot of eyes, especially mine. It gave me the surprise that no matter what comes along, and how happy or sad you are, things happen for a certain reason. The book inspired me that each day we should live life like there's no tomorrow, because you don't know what tomorrow brings. I've learned to appreciate and be thankful for what/who I have because sometimes we tend to take things for granted. I've read this book more than once because it's one of the books I can actually say i've enjoyed.

"A Walk to Remember," I think is the one of the best books I've ever read. It has taught me a lot about the importance of life and the people in it. I've learned many life lessons, for example you shouldn't "judge a book by its cover," meaning that you should get to really know someone before you can say something that you don't even really know.In this book, Landon shows that at first he judges Jamie by the outside, but after getting know her he realizes what a great person she is and eventually falls in love with her. I think that you should accept people for who they are, and just know that everyone's unique in their own way. In this book I've also realized that you should always live life to the fullest, because you never know when your time is up.Jamie, was an example in this book that shows that you should live your life the best way you can, when she does actually does all the things on her list, and still lives her life as if she didn't even know she was dying.Overall, I think this book taught be that you should live each day as your last, and that you should never assume things about people without even knowing them.

Please note my rating is really a 4.5 but that is not an option. Nicholas Sparks is a gifted writer who has a spark (pun intended) for making the reader feel the emotions of the characters. In this story you meet Landon and Jamie who are an unlikely pair that fall for each other over the course of a few months. Jamie teaches Landon the meaning of love and makes him a better person as a result. This book will make you laugh and cry. I have never watched the movie so I did not have that to compare it to this is a good book. Just be sure to have plenty of tissue near by to dry your eyes.

This book was excellent. The character's names are the same but with plot twists and a whole different background scheme-the book is alot different than the movie-except one thing- it's also a huge tear jerker.
The book reads fast-finished it in one night- and Sparks creates each character just as vividly and complete as Tolken but with less pages and more concise.
I enjoyed this book and would def recommend it for any romantic, Sparks fans, or any fan of the movie. Excellent to re-read and have as part of your book collection.

I don't make it a habit to read love stories, however, this book was quite good. This is one of those books that I had to stay up late reading just to figure out how it ended. I truly enjoyed this book despite its extremely feminine nature. It is a love story so beware. I think that this book would be enjoyed by people thirteen years old and older. Mind you, that age range does include males also, though, i wouldn't blame males if it is not on the top of their lists.

It was Landon Carter's last year at Beautfort High, but the beginning to the road of manhood. It was 1958, and Landon, a popular boy, had been dating a few girls here and there, but little did he know he would come across an unexpected love. Jamie Sullivan, the shy daughter of the town minister, always seemed to be living a different life than anyother girl her age and never had a boyfriend. It was an unanticipated fate that lead Jamie and Landon to become partners for the homecoming dance. The dance lead them into a unintended love. Landon being with Jamie would inform him about the many depths of the human heart and would eventually bring him to dramatic decision that would bring him to his manhood!
Overall, I loved this book. This romantic story of two completely differenet people with one shard fate brought me to tears and happiness at the same time. Their story of love is unexpected and mysterious. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in for twisted romantic stories.

I don't think I have ever really cried while reading a book, but with this story I had to pull out the box of tissues. This is such a powerful story about not only the strange places we find love, but how it can't truly change our lives. I received this book as a gag gift from a friend and had just thrown it to the side. After I had read "The Notebook," which is also by Sparks, I thought I should give this one a try too and maybe I would love it just as much. Well, I started and couldn't stop. For the two days that it took me to read it I was completely entwined in the story of Jamie and Landon, the two high school sweethearts who found each other in the least likely of circumstances. I think they found what so many are looking for. I recommend this book to anyone who, like me, sometimes need to be reminded what true love looks and feels like. Just don't forget your box of tissues.

"A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks is one of my favourite books of all time. This book has brought to me both tears and laughter, and the plot is so hooking and addicting that readers aren't going to be able to put it down; I ended up finishing the entire book in one day. Sparks really knows how to tug at a readers heartstrings in this moving story about young, everlasting love. The main characters, Jamie and Landon, takes us all on a spiritual journey, and along the way, teaches us about love, compassion, and faith.
If any of you haven't read this book and are considering if you should, take my advice and READ it. You wont be dissapointed, particulary if you are someone that loves romantic and sweet stories, then this book is a must-read, you'll certainly enjoy it.

EM FROM KCS:
This very brilliant love story by the author of the notebook Nicholas Sparks. It is about a girl named Jamie Sullivan who is very shy and is the ministers daughter very smart girl who has a lot of faith in God,Landon who is a trouble maker and hardly goes to church. Landon has to do community service for a prank he pulled on this kid, he lands up on the same drama club with Jamie. Meanwhile Landon comes to Jamie's house to work on the lines, Jamie's father doesn't trust Landon at all. Well, as this book continues Jamie and Landon start going out. But Jamie hides one thing away from Landon for a while that she has Lukemia. He wants to save her but there isn't anything he can do. They become very close which is the sad part. Among the differences in the family Jamie and Landon love each other so much.Jamie and Landon are two different people,Jamie thought Landon to have faith, Landon showed Jamie to live like you never did before. Jamie is the other half of Landon,Landon is the other half of Jamie. Will this be a walk that Landon will never forget? well you should read this very good drama and love story.

It was Landon Carter's senior year at Beaufort High School and things were going pretty well. At least that's what he thought. Although he was the son of a Congressman, he wasn't popular, or athletic, and worst of all, he didn't have a date to the Homecoming dance. Almost every girl in town was taken, every girl except for Jamie. Jamie was the daughter of the town's minister and she was also the nicest, shiest, and most faith filled person Landon had ever met. So why didn't Landon want to ask her? Probably because she was the last person that Landon or anyone else wanted to go to Homecoming with. But, Jamie was one of those people that you just couldn't let down. After going to the dance together, Landon and she became good friends. Landon even decided to star in the Christmas play with her and their friendship traveled a lot farther than he expected it to. Just when Landon thought that nothing could separate them, Jamie told him a secret that almost changed everything.
I really enjoyed this book and it was a fairly quick read. Nicholas Sparks' books are usually always exciting and this one is as well. I could never put this book down and I always had to find out what was going to happen next. My favorite thing about this story is that Jamie is always trying to bring out the best in people. She is such a great person and she is trying her hardest to make Beaufort a better place. I didn't exactly like the part when Jamie revealed her secret. I felt that it was ruining the story, until I read on and finished the book to find out that it made the story that much better. I really enjoyed it.
Although this is probably more of an advanced read, I think any girl would enjoy it. But with this being a love story, I don't think many guys would be interested. If you like twists and turns and reading the unexpected, I recommend this book to you. I hope you read it and enjoy!

This was a book that I could read over and over again. A true love story. It really showed the choices and struggles that teenagers make, both good and bad. But through everything that love prevails!!

Sparks, Nicholas. A walk to remember. Time Warner Book, New York, New York.1999
Borders Books $12.00
Fiction/lit.

A remarkable story set in a small town of Beaufort, North Carolina in 1958. One character in particular that tries to fit in, Landon Carter, one of the popular guys in school, coming from the wealthier side of town who attends Beautfort High. Beaufort High could be explained as the typical high school, with the popular jocks, the jokesters, and the girl who just doesn't fit in, Jamie Sullivan, the minister's daughter. Jamie carries her Bible everywhere she goes, is friendly to everyone, and always incorporates the Lord someway in conversation. In the beginning of their senior year, Landon signs up for choir, knowing it would be a blow off class, and finds out it may be more than a choir class, when he is asked to perform the lead part in the school play. Little does Landon know, he is about to fall in love with the least popular girl in school, his friends will make fun of him, and after a while, Landon Carter realizes love is worth so much more than his popularity ever could.

This was a fairly easy read, however with some larger words incorporated; some readers may find it helpful to keep a dictionary close by. Sparks is an amazing writer. The way he pulls on your heart strings, you can really feel the emotion through the whole book. Throughout the book, it is told through narration as well as dialogue to make you feel as if you're part of the story. Also, through the play Sparks uses descriptions of the background of Beaufort, North Carolina around 1958 to have the reader feel the times change, leading to where we are today in culture and beliefs. You can really feel the emotions of being a teenager in high school, trying to fit in, and Landon coming to the realization that there is so much more to life then what people in high school say and think. The play takes a turn towards the end, and you can really feel the emotions of the characters. One girl does so much for the play and the good of Beautfort, and with the help of Jamie, Landon comes to the realization, miracles do happen.

This was one of the worst books I have ever read. There was no story line and brain power was not required while reading this. I still can't believe they made it into a movie.

A Walk To Remember, by Nicholas Sparks, tells us a story unlike any other story about teenagers in high school. This book is not your typical boy meets girl, boy pursues girl and they all live happily ever after fairy tale. Within this book is a lot of struggle and triumph that go along with the romance of two young people in love.
Landon Carter is the big man on campus, if you will. He spends most of his time hanging around with him just as popular friends that lack a certain level of maturity. Landon seamlessly has the perfect life on the outside. He has the looks, the friends, and the reputation, but a firs is building within him and just once, Landon want to escape into something that's not familiar to him. Something, that sets apart the normalities of his every day life. Jamie Sullivan is like a mirror image of Landon. Though, very sweet and kind, Jamie is at the bottom of the social ladder at her high school. She keeps to herself, is very quiet, and isn't normally seen without her nose stuck in a book. Jamie's peers see her as strange and a bookworm and they don't make any attempt to understand why she is the way she is.
When Landon struggles in school he is desperate for Jamie's help only to find out she's not a girl to be taken advantage of. A meeting with fate brings Landon and Jamie together, and a friendship is formed. Landon, being the person he is, can't let anyone know that he is friends with Jamie so he tries to hide the friendship along with the growing feelings he is having towards her. Feelings between the two are reciprocated and the two realize there is more to their relationship then friends.
A secret is later exposed leading to a very unexpected turn in the book. Once one obstacle is defeated a bigger one is revealed. What will it take to keep the young love alive? Will the two break through the struggles of everyday life? Read to find out.

I think this movie was the best movie I've seen in a long time. There are so many good things I can say about it I don't know where to start. The fact that the movie was made in 2000 and I just saw it for the first time this year and I think thats because the previews for it were made to look like a teenage getting into troble movie is why I didn't go see it, but it came on the tv one night and I started watching it and I just could not believe how good it was and when it came on again a few days later I taped it and played it for my Husband and he couldn't believe how good it was. We have watch it about ten times from the day we bought it. The only thing that I was upset about was I recieved the movie in wide screen and we don't have a tv for wide screen. I don't know if I ordered it that way by mistake or it was just sent that way, I don't remember there being anything about wide screen on the ad for it when I ordered it. Anyway it is a great movie and i'm so glad I saw it.

A Walk to Remember is an exquisite story written by an author who is absolutely amazing. Nicholas Sparks writes from the perspective of Landon Carter, a fifty-seven year old man flashing back to when he was seventeen and met his first true love, Jamie Sullivan.
Landon and Jamie were always in the same classes but never really talked. Jamie, a Baptist minister's daughter, and Landon is the son of a family rival. Jamie always carries her Bible with her schoolbooks; she always helps at an orphanage, and takes care of her widowed father. Landon was always the rebel and the popular kid. The last person Landon every thought of dating was Jamie Sullivan. He asks Jamie to the homecoming dance because he is on student council and is required to go to the dance, everyone else already had dates and that is where their story begins.
Landon never thought he would fall in love with someone so different than him, but there is one thing Landon doesn't know about Jamie and that was that she had leukemia and she was dying. Landon couldn't help but fall in love with Jamie. They were both seventeen and he asked her to marry him. Her father approved so they married as soon as possible. Landon still thinks about his only love and misses her.
Throughout the novel Landon finds himself and realizes what the right things to do are and he falls in love. He realizes how much he loves Jamie and how amazing she really is. Like Landon, I fell in love too. I fell in love with A Walk to Remember and you will too.

In "A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks, Jamie Sullivan was the school's freak while Landon was a popular jerk. It was very unexpected when Landon told Jamie that he loved her. Together they formed a perfect relationship but sooner or later Jamie's secret would separate them. Shy little Jamie shows Landon " the joy and pain of living and the depths of the human heart."
I really loved this book and when i started to read it, nothing could come between the story and I. This is just another moving love story by Sparks that will grab you by the heart. Jamie and Landon are only teenagers but somehow they make their love everlasting. "Do you ever wonder why things have to turn out the way that they do?" Jamie said as she tried to explain her fateful situation. I cried as I read and was touched by this book. If you have never felt the warm feeling of being in love, read this and it is as if you have been. The author, Sparks, has a way of words that put you inside of the story.
This book is bound to become a bestseller or classic. I saw as i read that a self-centered teenage boy is transformed into a loving young man. I recommend this book to anyone that can get lost in a good love story. Shed a tear and let your heart be touched by " A Walk to Remember."

Seventeen-year-old Landon never thought that he would end up falling for Jamie Sillilvan, but when Landon asks her to homecoming, everything starts to change.
Jamie it the Baptist preacher's daughter, and Landon is a rich kid who hangs out with the popular kids, so there was no way that these two would ever hook up; or was there? A Walk to Remember is a fight for love and life. Landon fights for Jamie's love after he got to know her, and Jamie fights for her life after finding out that she has a disease. They find that together they can fight against Jamie's disease, and that Landon can learn to love some things that he never thought he would.
I really enjoyed this book. What Landon overcomes in A Walk to Remember is amazing. He learns mot to judge people by their looks, but to get to know them before he even thinks about judging them. I think that we all could learn a lesson from Landon. Then Jamie thinks about the people who she thinks are less unfortunate than her, when she is dying from a disease that could kill her. We could all take something from this book and use it in our everyday lives. That's why I liked this book so much, you not only just read it but they set an example up for everyone. Not to judge before you know something about that person, and to fight for love and life.
A Walk to Remember is definitely for girls. I would recommend this book to any girl who likes romance stories. Any other book by Nicholas Sparks I would also recommend because they are all romance stories that tug at your heart string. I have read many other books by Nicolas Sparks and they are all just a wonderful as A Walk to Remember.

I read the book A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. Landon Carter is you average teenage boy. He's into girls, drinks, and pulls pranks. Jamie Sullivan isn't your average girl. First of all she is the preacher's daughter. She is always nice, cheerful and helps anyone in need. She especially likes visiting and taking care of the orphans. Prom is coming up and Landon doesn't have a date and all the "hot" girls are taken. He desperately needs a date, so he eventually decides to ask Jamie and she says yes. One day she asks him to be in their annual Christmas play because she said that that year was to be exceptionally special. Something is wrong though, but will she tell Landon before it's too late?
I would recommend this book to teenage girls who like romance books.
I liked this book because a semi-popular guy falls in love, almost accidentally, with a girl that no one talks to. The best part was when they did the play. I didn't like how kids didn't want to be Jamie's friend just because she was different.

This story called A Walk to Remember is a romantic and sad story. It touched my heart and made me cry. This story is about a girl named Jamie who to most people at her school is a geek. The students make fun of her just because she's the reverend's daughter. Suddenly, she is noticed by a boy named Landon Carter who is the most popular kid in school. They fall in love, Jamie gets cancer and things happen that aren't planned. I would recommend this book to anybody and give it five stars because once you start to read this book you can't put it down. -Sarah Wahl

Landon Carter had promised himself he would never fall in love. When he met a girl named Jamie Sullivan in drama, he didn't think much of her. He was just taking drama as an easy class for his senior year of high school. He did a play with Jamie, which led him to learning about her ways. He thought of Jamie as too good of a person for him. He was the more rebellious type of guy and Jamie was the sweet, innocent type as well as the Reverend's daughter. He eventually began to date Jamie and she told him "You have to promise me that you won't fall in love with me". He accepted and thought nothing of it. Later on in the book, he traumatically finds out that she has cancer and is very, very ill. She has promised herself that she would never fall in love and hurt someone that bad. A Walk To Remember is by all means the saddest book I have ever read.

Landon faces many difficult times in this book. He experiences love for the first time. He is so happy and then it all comes crashing into him and he becomes miserable. When he finds out that Jamie was diagnosed with Leukemia two years before they had met, it was like a bomb being dropped right on top of him. He had been spending all of his time with Jamie, and when she tells him this he knew he would have to make her time on Earth the best it could possibly be. They got married and when Jamie died, Landon stayed strong. I think that that was exactly how the author was trying to depict Landon.

In this book, the time where you could completely tell that Landon and Jamie had fallen in love was when Jamie worked up enough courage to tell Landon that she was ill. To tell someone that you love that you have a cancer would be beyond anything I could bear. This book shows that Jamie was a determined, strong person who was willing to do all she could to make sure that she was going to have the best life she could possibly have while she had the time to.

One of the greatest transformations in this book was that of Jamie. She would always wear her hair back in a bun, very quiet and self conscious but when she got to know Landon, she told him of all the things that she wanted to do in her life. Landon set her free in a sense and helped her to fulfill her dream of having such a wonderful life.

This book is heart-wrenching. I don't usually read romance novels but this was just the perfect story. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance novels and something that can broaden your outlook on life.

Landon Carter ran for student body President just to look good on his college transcripts. He wasn't really the type of kid for this, but it was this and him needing a date for the dance because of it that brought him and Jamie together. The last person in the world he would think to ask was Jamie Sullivan. She's the minister's daughter, and he and Landon's families don't exactly get along too well. Aside from that, Jamie wasn't exactly the girl of his dreams. When he comes to the conclusion that she's the only girl left to ask, she agrees, but makes him promise not to fall in love with him. She's definitely the nicest girl in the entire town, and is always helping hurt animals and goes to visit the kids at the orphanage all of the time. Landon finds that he really does enjoy being with Jamie, even though she's kind of weird to talk to. She's always happy even when she probably shouldn't be. After a while, London finds himself walking her home and spending most of his free time with her. He agrees to be in the school play, because she asked him and she has a way of making him feel guilty about things. His friends had a lot to say about all of the time they were spending together. The only thing he could do was deny that they liked each other. Eventually, he admitted that he really did like her, and maybe even loved her. They started going out and he did things with her that she liked, like going to the orphanage and helping raise money for it. He even put a lot of his own money into the collection bucket so that the coming Christmas would be really special. That's what Jamie kept saying. This Christmas has to be special. Landon couldn't figure out why, but went along with it. The play was a huge success, and really touched everyone. Landon was soon sure that he did love Jamie, and told her that. When he did, she just started to cry. A little while later, she started to look weak some days and began to develop bruises. When she finally told him why she had been acting different, it was pretty much the worst news Landon had ever heard. She had leukemia. As she got sicker and sicker, it got harder for Landon to talk to her, because he knew what was coming. When they had first been talking, she told him that her one dream was to get married. Landon decided that if she was going to die, that was about the only thing he could do, and he really did love her. They were married and even though she had been restricted to her bed for days because of the disease, she walked down the isle with her father, and the two were married. Not too long after, the disease took her. She died, but with her one wish granted. Jamie had a way of making people think about being bad while she was there. This is what changed Landon. The entire book, you were wondering what every little detail meant, which made you want to keep reading. All of the clues came together in the end for a really interesting ending. The ending was very good, but sad. Jamie dies from her disease, but she managed to make everyone happy before she died. That kind of made it ok. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about two opposite young people falling in love.
Jamie was the girl who made everyone feel guilty about what they did without really saying much or even trying to. She was the minister's daughter, which made it even worse for some people. She had a way of letting you know what you were doing was wrong by just looking at you. She always helped out the orphans and other things like that, which made people think about how little they really do for the community.
The author kind of left little hints in the story about what was going to happen next. From the beginning, you could tell something was wrong with Jamie. She told Landon that he couldn't fall in love with her, even though they were only going to a dance. She did this almost sarcastically, but that can hint to both her having leukemia and them falling in love. Throughout the book, Jamie keeps on telling Landon that this Christmas has to be special. She's doing this because she's about to die, but it keeps you thinking about why it has to be so special, while you're reading. It very discreetly tells about her becoming weak, saying she was having a bad day or looked distant one day or something. That leads into a horrible disease. The entire book fits perfectly together, and all makes since in the end.
The book ended with everyone pretty happy, even though it was a sad time. Jamie worked hard while she was sick to make sure that she made everyone as happy as possible before she died, and it worked. The children at the orphanage had the best Christmas ever, with all of the money she raised, so even though they would miss her, she had made them happy and they will always remember her for that. Her dad wrote a play that seniors preformed every year. The year she was dieing was the year she was a senior, so she got to perform it with Landon. The play really made her dad happy because it was sort of about her and seeing her in it made it real for him. She made both Landon and herself happy by getting married. That was definitely the best thing for them to do because even though she was dieing, they were in love, so she died with his memory and he had hers forever.
A Walk to Remember is a really good book with characters that have the ability to change people, including the reader. The author has it excellently reading, so you never want to put it down. He lets you know something big is going to happen, but doesn't tell you what until the very end. The ending was good, but sad so some people might not like it. If the reader likes books that might make them cry a little, then this is for them. I would recommend this to just about everyone.
