After reading some of Morgenstern's books on organization for myself, I bought this book for my daughter. She was delighted with it and took it upon herself to redo her room. I think that she did a pretty good job. Her room has greatly improved and this book has given my daughter the confidence that she can keep her area and belongings neat.

Teenagers need to be taught practically how to manage all of their homework. Julie's book does just that. It makes sense, the methods are easy to apply, and it is great when parents and their kids can read the book together. I recently gave a talk to teenagers using the principles of the book and the kids were very receptive. Definitely recommended for any parents with kids of "homework" age!

I bought this for my teenage daughter and could see a big improvement after she read it. This book contains information that will help provide the foundation for skills needed throughout her adult life. I only wish that I had found this for my oldest daughter who has since gone off to college. If it didn't have the word "teenager" in it I'd send her a copy.

Lately, many teenagers feel like they under the same crunch as their parents to get everything done (school, homework, friends, chores, jobs, etc.), and yet still want free time- and this book can really help you get your work done and still have a life, at the same time. The way that Julie Morgenstern writes this book is different than your typical organizing book- because it helps you to create an organizational system that caters to your personal needs, not someone else's. Julie states that since every teen as different hobbies, interests, activities, etc., their usage of time and the way their bedroom is organized will also be different.

Instead of giving you the same organizing system to use as everybody else, this book gives you a basic five-plan organizational system that you can apply to organizing your bedroom and managing your time better. It also features tons of helpful hints, real-life stories and anecdotes, and more to help you to get organized. Asides from being helpful, these stories and tips are also motivational and inspirational.

So, for all of those teens who have tried countless times to get organized but still find themselves in a mess, this book will definitely help you to get organized and start living your life better and more well-managed.

I'm 13 years old, and a former mess addict. People would tell me that it looked like a tornado had just passed through, and they were right- you couldn't see the floor and the mess was literally a foot high. It was so disgusting, and I could never invite my friends over because there was actually a stench to my room and no place to hang out in.

I'd been trying to clean my room for the longest time but nothing seemed to work- I wasn't motivated enough and I just couldn't figure it out. Things never seemed to be in the right place and even if something worked initially, after a while the system grew old and I couldn't keep it up anymore. I tried all kinds of books and systems and was even considering hypnotherapy (!!!), but none of them seemed to last or even appeal to me, until I found this book.

I read the organizational part straight through and I got so inspired to organize that I just started cleaning the minute I finished reading the first part to the book (the second is time management). I finished in three days and have been able to keep it spick and span clean ever since (over three months). If there was ever a magical cure, this is it.

I think the magic to this book is that the systems aren't limiting- it's written as a guideline so you know where to get started and how to do it. This enables you to incorporate your personality and lifestyle so that you can actually keep up with the system that you yourself design. The time management part is excellent too- it really helps you cut down on wasted time. It is written in the same manner as the organizational part, as a guideline so you can tailor it to suit yourself.

This may be more directed to teens than adults because teens, like me, live mostly outside, in school, and in their bedrooms, and worry about different aspects of life than adults. While adults may deal with bills and their kid's important papers and that kind of complicated mish-mash, we're dealing with homework and social lives and our own kind of complicated mish-mash. Since we're living in separate worlds with separate concerns, I think it's only right that we have separate systems. I'm not saying that adults wouldn't appreciate this book- it gives lots of great ideas, but I think that the organizational and time management problems being dealt with in this book are directed more to a teen's world than an adults.

Okay, so this book isn't THAT bad, but there are better organization books that take a little longer to implelement but work much better in the long run. I recommend that teenagers should instead read the FlyLady cleaning book and use the control journal idea in conjunction with this book to keep their room clean. They must devise their own system and that takes a lot of time and trial and error, but this book won't solve all of the organization problems, it needs more. Trust me, I am 15, I spend about 10 minutes a day keeping my room neat, and it is always perfect. I also have tons of time for everything I want to do.

I have two teenagers living in my house. Their rooms are impassable, and half of their waking hours seem to be spent trying to find things. Now that I've bought this book, highly recommended to me by a Former Teenage Mess Addict, I have a glimmer of hope that calm will descend where chaos once reigned. We're working on it together, and in the process I'm finding ways to make my own life flow more smoothly.
Highest recommendation, so far. Tune in next month for an update!

Believe or not, I heard Howard Stern pushing this book on his radio show a couple times. Weird, you wouldn't think Howard Stern would of read a Organizing for Teens book. But he said he was on Vacation in the gift shop and picked it up for the plane ride or something or other. He said he got this book, and another book called, The Little Guide To Happiness. He said, "He wasn't much of a self help fan, but now he was". He loved both books. So, being a Stern fan I bought both myself. I too liked both books. If you need to get organized, and are a teen, or an adult like Howard, then get this book. Also, if you value Happiness, then get The Little Guide To Happiness. It is by far my favorite book. Thanks Howard!!!!

Organizing teens is a great book for those with a heap of homeless items, also for those with tons of junk loaded into every spare cubby!
It is not targeted toward those with a great organizing system though. So if you are looking for emergency help this is the perfect life-saver. If you are looking for the best duster to clean your allready imacluate dresser, you had better look somewhere else.

(Hide Review...)  So you're life feels out of control?
Reviewer Permalink
This joint effort between organization guru Julie Morgenstern and her daughter, Jessi, is really a valuable read for teens. So many teenage boys and girls feel like their life is out of control and for many of them this manifests itself in the feeling that they can't find things, they don't have enough time in the day, that "stuff" is taking over. "Organizing from the Inside Out for Teenagers" accomplishes what the adult version does - it takes you through steps in order to evaluate what's important in your life and then helps you develop a system that works for you (giving you some non-binding advice about what has often worked for other people).

I think my only criticism of this book is that it really assumes that readers come from comfortable economic backgrounds where parents with ready cash can go out and buy containers or certain items to help teens organize themselves. While I'm sure any parent with the money will cheerfully buy anything their teen feels will help organize them, many young men and women do not have the financial means to accomplish these goals and will have to stick to the less expensive suggestions. Overall though, an excellent book that will have positive impact in multiple areas of your life should you implement the suggestions and get control over your stuff rather than it having control over you.

I used to think organizing was boring, but believe it not after reading a few chapters in this book, I got so excited to organize. This book helped me manage my time, re-arrange my room into the "Kindergarten Model", and be as neat as possible. I got homework done on time, had a place to put each thing in my room, and I even had time to just hang-out. This book said that after organinzing you would get back 7-14 hours of your week, and I did. This book is a must for anyone who thinks they are disorganized.
