Scorpia (Alex Rider Adventure)

Alex Rider, teen spy, has always been told he is the spitting image of the father he never knew. But when Alex learns that his father may have been an assassin for the most lethal and powerful terrorist organization in the world, Scorpia, his world shatters. Now Scorpia wants Alex on their side, and Alex no longer has the strength to fight them. That is, until he learns of Scorpia's latest plot: an operation known only as "Invisible Sword" that will result in the death of thousands of people. Can Alex prevent the slaughter, or will Scorpia prove once and for all that the terror will not be stopped?
Fans of the Alex Rider Adventures will not be disappointed by the slam-bang action in this fifth book in the spy thriller series, although the ending may leave them feeling a bit dismayed. A parachute jump onto the roof of a super-secure pharmaceutical complex, a desperate escape from a water-filled cellar under the canals of Venice, elegant and witty encounters with mega-criminals bent on death -- it's all here, and Alex, still 14-years old, comes out ahead every time in spite of the heavy odds against him. "Go to Venice. Find Scorpia. And you will find your destiny," Alex was told by a dying man at the end of the previous book, Eagle Strike. And so we find him; in Venice, with his friend Tom, looking for clues to his father's identity and death. Was he an agent of M16, the secret world organization that has used Alex before? Or was he a tool of Scorpia, the powerful international criminal agency that specializes in sabotage, corruption, intelligence, and assassination? And which are the bad guys? Alex loses track as he is recruited by the beautiful and deadly Julia Rothman, one of the nine executives of Scorpia, to be trained at their Venetian island school for assassins and to take part in a plot to kill thousands of 12 and 13-year-olds in England. Caught between shifting allegiances and different versions of his father's life and death, Alex outwits and outfights everybody as the plot rockets along to a smash finish that will leave readers breathless and shocked. this is by far the best book in the series. Alex goes to venice with his friend Tom. then sneas into the Ca' Vedova, the house of Julia Rothman. Mrs. Rothmans servant then tries to drown him and he escapes. Later, he joins scorpia. When he tries to kill Mrs. Jones he is captured by MI6 and then discovered the plan of Mrs. Rothman. Read the book to find out the end. Trust me you will want to.

Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz is a brilliant book! I was anticipating a really good book because the last four have been awesome but this book blew me away. It is a masterpiece. I think you can compare it the James Bond series because its every teenager's spy fantasy. It's not fair because it makes the reader instantly want to become a Secret Agent but as if that's ever going to happen! It's pure-class and is action packed. I read it all in one sitting because I became so engrossed in it, from the very first word I was totally absorbed into Alex Rider's dangerous world. I don't want to give any of the story away because it would spoil the entire book but all I can really say is Alex finds out about his family and there is a HUGE surprise at the ending. Alex Rider is all teenage girls ultimate dream, he is cute, brave and a spy for MI6!
Unfortunately he doesn't lead a normal life because he is always in danger! In this book Alex finds himself questioning who his father was and what he was like. He discovered in the last book that the answer was in Venice. He was told `Go to Venice. Find Scorpia. And you will find your destiny...'
Whilst trying to find out who he is, he stumbles on Scorpia's plan to destroy the world but this time he doesn't know whether to join the baddies or the goodies. In fact he doesn't know which side is which!
Alex doesn't know whether to trust Scorpia or MI6. Who is the one looking out for him?
The ending is sort of a cliffhanger because something very crucial happens. BUT unless Horowitz decides to write another book then it could be seen as a GREAT BIG SHOCKER. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will cry if Horowitz doesn't continue the series. It is longer than the other books but I read it all in one go. I am so sad! It is meant for older readers, perhaps 13 and above, because it is slightly violent but even then its still great fun. Horowitz has taken MI6 to a whole new level!

From the outset, the Alex Rider books have been action packed, but this one beats them all. The story opens with Alex in Venice, where by chance, he discovers a silver scorpion decorating the side of a motor launch. Following his instincts (and the boat) he arrives at a luxurious palazzo. Determined to discover whether this is the headquarters of the infamous Scorpia (and whether his father was indeed one of their top assassins), he gate-crashes a masked ball ... only to find himself trapped in the same room as a man-eating Siberian tiger. And that's just the beginning!!!
The pacing is exhausting, yet cliff-hangers at the end of each chapter make it impossible to stop reading and get your breath back. One minute fourteen year-old Alex is BASE jumping onto the roof of a top secret research facility, the next he's enrolled in a school for elite assassins supposedly following his father's footsteps. Before long he's on his first mission ... and this time he's armed to kill.

With incredible skill, Anthony Horowitz takes impossible situations and somehow makes them believable. At one point, Alex finds himself attending an emergency cabinet meeting at 10 Downing Street. Terrorists, determined to irrevocably damage relations between Britain and the USA, have demanded that America withdraw its troops from every foreign country, or they will use their deadliest weapon (Invisible Sword) to wipe out countless thousands of British children in one foul swoop.

This book is far darker and more chilling than its predecessors. This is probably because, at times, the setting seems uncomfortably close to the real world. Young readers are doubtless aware of the insidious threat of terrorism, and the uneasy political alliance between Britain and the USA. Add to this the fact that Horowitz promises in his introduction that the technology required for Invisible Sword actually exists ... and you've got one incredibly gripping thriller.

If you've read the rest of the Alex Rider series, then you have to read this too. If you've never read one of Anthony Horowitz's books before, then this is perhaps his best ... and well worth reading, even if you're considerably older than the target readership. If you'd like to read the other stories first, I'd recommend the big compilation edition containing all four books in one volume ... it's great value for money.

Finally, the ending is stunning. Some reviewers see it as a cliff-hanger ... but I'm not so sure. I don't want to spoil it by adding my personal theories; read it yourself and make your own mind up!

I bought this book last week and did not put it down until the early hours of the following morning. It is fast paced, exciting and keeps you dying to know what will happen next.
For those who have read the previous four books in the Alex Rider series this book certainly will not disappoint you!
It continues the story of 14-year-old Alex and his search for the truth behind the death of his parents and his work for MI6 as an under age spy.
In this instalment Alex travels to Italy to find Scorpia, which turns out to be an international crime syndicate that his father seems to have been involved with. Alex is offered a job working for Scorpia, however his first job is to kill a member of MI6.
There is also a plan to destabilize the world by destroying the friendship between America and Britain, which involves a lot of children potentially being killed. Alex, as usual endeavours to save the day.

The book continues the tongue in cheek references to James Bond and Horowitz writes with his usual humour as well as having his finger accurately on the pulse of what kids today think is cool.

The only sad part of this book is that the ending suggests that this may be the last instalment of the Alex Rider stories, which is a great shame as they are thoroughly enjoyable and exciting books. I felt really disappointed at the end not with the book, which was excellent, but at the thought that there may not be another to look forward to.

Scorpia
By: Anthony Horowitz

For 14-year-old spy Alex Rider, everything changes when he finds out about his father's involvement in Scorpia, a highly wanted criminal organization. Caught up between M16 and Scorpia, he doesn't know which side he should take. To make matters even worse he learns from Scorpia about some of the horrible things his father has done. Not knowing if Scorpia is telling the truth, Alex joins Scorpia. This time when trouble strikes, he will be alone, without M16 and their fancy gadgets.
With so many exciting turning points and cliffhangers this was my favorite book in The Alex Rider Adventures. Scorpia is filled with action, fighting and adventure. I couldn't put this book down because there were stunning moments everywhere in the book.
Although it takes a few chapters until this book gets really exciting and to the point, it's well worth the wait. This is one of those books you could just read all day. I recommend this book to any teen that likes fighting, action, and adventure.
If you like the Cherub series, you'll like Scorpia. This book will have you wanting to read all the other Alex Rider books.

Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz.
Alex Rider is devastated when he learns that his dad did not die in a plane crash and his uncle was murdered in a secret agent mission. He has to find the truth about his family. He has the opportunity to go to Venice with Tom his best friend he jumps at it. In Venice he finds Scorpia and Miss Rothman who is one of the leaders of Scorpia. Miss Rothman has a plan called Invisible Sword that will kill many people. Alex betrays MI6, which he risked his life for 3 times before, and joins Scorpia as a contract killer. Alex must find out more about his father and about someone's past that might change his life forever.

I loved this book because it had a suspenseful, dramatic ending that made me think that the last page was missing. Scorpia is a great book about betrayal with complex plot and realistic dialog. I felt like I was right next to Alex in every scene. My favorite part was when Alex was going to drown under Venice's sewers to get away from Nile and Miss Rothmen. I would recommend this book to anyone that would like a powerful suspenseful storyline with a heart-racing ending.

I have read all of the Alex Rider books up to this one and think that this was one of the best. The author has an amazing way with coming up with interesting villains and diabolical (if not sometimes ridiculous)plots for them to put to the test. This was the first book in the series that I thought had some genuinely suspenseful moments (namely the landing of the plane with the sports team). It also had quite a few multidimensional characters. However, there were a few negative aspects to this book. These include the fact that villians have something seriously against just shooting Alex and being done with it(with the exception of the sniper of course)and the second to last chapter. I mean was it really necessary to make *SPOILERS AHEAD* John Rider such a good guy? And if so, I find it very unrealistic that Mrs. Jones persisted in lying to Alex and making him believe that his father worked for Scorpia!
Even so, this was a well written book with a good plot and in my opinion, is worth 4 (or 4.5) stars out of 5.

Scorpia is a very creative book and Anthony Horowitz did a wonderful job writing it! It was an amazing book becasue of the great details on the characters, the suspense, and the different happenings in every chapter. I give this a book a 5 star rating and this book is in the action genre. I think the best age group for this book is about 10 to 17. Alex Rider, the thirteen year old spy, is thrown when hearing that his father was an assassin and worked for Scorpia with Yassen Gregorovich, but was what Yassen told him the real truth?

Also, the charqctes were really realistic, with great description. The clifhangger ending could have been improved, but overall it was very good. The Alex Rider character was like a normal boy, just as he would seem in real life. This was a very good book. I wuld recomend it for ages 10-16.

Alex is boy the age of 14, but he is not an ordinary boy. He has done many missions for MI6. MI6 is a secret organization that protects the U.K. After the death of Yassen Gregorovich he followed his last words, "Go to Venice. Find Scorpia and find you destiny." Alex doesn't know anything about them only that when he finds them he will find his destiny. When he finds the he is put into there group and sent on a mission to kill the one who killed his father. His former boss. After this happens he must save the world from something he doesn't know anything about.
Scorpia was written by Anthony Horowitz. I liked the pace of the book. It didn't drag on. It was full of action and thrill. I personally would have wanted him to stay on the dark side longer, maybe for a book then switch back.

My son chose this book for an 'outside reading' book report and while I agree, it was exciting and action-packed, it also validated immoral behavior and was violence packed as well. The message 'implied' by the author is inexcusable material for children's reading and in my opinion is VERY inappropriate. If it were a movie, it would be at least PG13, but more likely rated R for violence. The book is dark, sinister, and has an extremely negative message regarding our country, our president, and our realtionship to other nations around the world. I regret that my son read it before I did and I will definitely not make any further purchases of books by this author.

I read it a while ago so i dont remember everything but it does tie in everything about his parents and other spys to tell you the truth about everyone. There is also a lot of action and suspence. You should read the other books before it because if you read this one it might take a little out of the others but still, if you just want to read one then this is a great one. Continuing, He is shocked of the fact that is father may have been an assassin for Scorpia, the most powerful terrorist organization in the world. Eventually he joins Scorpia, where they are planning to launch an invisible sword that will kill thousands of people. This book has influenced my life because it has taught me to never give up, to have perseverance, and that nothing is impossible.

Having just read the six existing Alex Rider books in rapid succession, this one is by far my favorite. I really enjoyed learning more about Alex's parents and his father's career.

Also, I was able to connect the most with the character of Alex through this particular book. The previous books do not closely examine Alex's emotions or psyche (which I find to be appropriate because his "lack" of emotion is likely a desireable trait for a spy). In this installment we see a growing internal conflict in our hero, making things all the more interesting.

This book is by far the most exciting and interesting Alex Rider book!

I really enjoyed the book Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz. I liked it because it was very action-filled in many ways. Also, it had a very smart thought out plot.
The first reason I liked this book is that there was a lot of action which made the book exciting. One of the action parts was when the main character, Alex, was in the church and the MI6 troops came and attacked the Scorpia employees. There were machine gun firing and grenades exploding everywhere. I think the best part was when Alex jumped on the hot-air balloon. He destroyed the satellite that was going to kill all the children. The action in this book was very breathtaking.
In the book the author used a clever plot. It was that Alex would be tricked into working with the bad guys, Scorpia. Then, Alex is captured, while on a mission with Scorpia, to kill the vice president of MI6. MI6 captured him, and made him work for them. He went to Scorpia to make sure that they didn't kill all the children in London. That is part of the main plot. When children were given there term shot, Scorpia put in poison. There is a satellite one thousand feet above the ground. It will activate the poison and kill the children. I enjoyed the plot very much.
I really liked the book Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz. It had many action parts and cleverness in the plot. I enjoyed this book so much.

All of the Alex Rider novels contain a certain level of mystery and how it has been unsolved until Alex comes along, yet this is definitely NOT a mystery book, it is action, like all the others.
This is not my favorite Alex Rider novel, but it is still worthy of a 5 star rating. My personal favorite was Point Blank. It had all the action, but was condensed.
What is so great about Scorpia is that Alex is tricked by the "bad guys" AND by the "good guys" leaving Alex stuck in the middle.
The last chapter was a bit of a confusion for someone who didn't already know the ending ahead of time.

This book named Scorpia written by Anthony Horowitz is the second book in the "Alex Rider Adventures" was an awesome book! It was full of suspense and was an all time thriller. I would give it two thumbs up. It was very amazing how Alex(the main character) did all of these death defying stunts when he was only 14 years old.
Alex first went to Venice to look for Scorpia, which at the time he had no clue what it was, in order to find the truth about his father. When he finds the truth about his father he falls into a world of hurt, anger, revenge, and dishonesty. In the end though Alex cleared his mind and went back to the good side called MI6. MI6 was a spy program that saves the world and stops Scorpia. Scorpia was an assassin group that was a major terrorist organization that did people's dirty work for them, but at a very high price in money or gold. Alex also had to become friends and trust the person who was the whole leader of the organization of Scorpia. Her name was Mrs. Rothman, a very rich woman who's sidekick was Nile. He was a black belt in karate and in weapons.
So if you like a James Bond-like adventure that has suspense and thrills you should really read this book and all of the other books in the Alex Rider Adventure series.

This is Horowitz at his best and the story of Alex's life is finally explained. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a teenage spy? If you have, then this is the book for you. Alex Rider is a 14 year old boy who never knew his father. His uncle, John Rider, who worked for MI6, told him that his father died in a plane crash and had been training to be a spy all his life only Alex just didn't no it yet. One day, Alex's uncle dies while on a mission and Alex is contacted by MI6. Soon after, Alex is sent on a number of missions by MI6.

In Scorpia, Alex is contacted by an organization named Scorpia. Scorpia is an organization dedicated to the training of assassins. Alex is convinced to join this organization. He is sent to a school for assassins where he trains for missions. Scorpia is a very well written book because Anthony Horowitz describes what is happening very well, and pays attention to details. If you like action and adventure, you should read this book.

With his friend Tom, they journey throughout Venice in search of a mysterious organization called Scorpia. Alex gets himself into lots of trouble but manages to survive. Scorpia a.k.a Sabotage, Corruption, Intelligence, and Assassination is willing to eliminate anything in its way. Now Scorpia is planning an evil plot to kill 12-13 year olds in England. It is up to Alex to stop the evil plot from occurring and to figure out about his father's identity.
I like this book because it has a lot of edge of the seat action. There is a lot of description in this story and it has a lot mystery. I think Anthony Horowitz is a brilliant author who can write really well. What I like about this book is the story. The story is written very well and it keeps you anxious. I also like the gadgets Alex used and the enemies he fights.
What I don't like about this book is the story could have been a little clearer. I don't think the author gave enough information about Alex's father. Plus I don't like the ending of the book because that isn't really a good way to end the book. There could have been much more action. I think Alex the character could have done more things than he did and involve in more action.
My favorite part of the book was when Alex fought against the mysterious stranger. I thought Alex would win but it seems as if the stranger was prepared to fight too. My next favorite part was when Alex fought the tigers. It was amazing how a special collar controlled the tigers. These are my favorite parts of Scorpia.

I just can't get enough of Anthony Horowitz! This guy is just so creative! This story kept me reading all the time. I even read in the car (I wasn't driving). This action packed book was awesome. It is the best in the Alex Rider series. It even has a surprise ending. You just have to read this.

Scorpia is King
Scorpia will leave you on the edge of your seat. In this book, the last of Alex's adventures, Alex will learn everything about his mysterious dad that he knows nothing about, his mom that he also knows nothing about, and he will learn what his destiny is. In this book Alex will travel to Venice on vacation with his friend. The reason for Alex to travel to Venice is to find information about his parents and their death. In the previous book, Eagle Strike, before Alex's enemy, Yassan, dies beside him, he tells Alex to travel to Venice, find Scorpia, and he will find his destiny. Alex will find Scorpia, but will be caught in a exciting and dangerous life threatening mess that may end his career.
This book is one of the top books I have read. It has every aspect of Action, disappointments, double crossings, lies that go back and fourth, and killing. Every chapter made me want to read the next to the point where I wasn't sleeping. The end of each chapter left me wanting more. This book would me for 11-15 year olds who like everything there is to an action book.

This book is so awsome. It will put you on the edge of your seat. If you would like a change from boring old books, you got to read this one. It has many surprising twists and and action packed fighting. This book is the fifth in the series. If you do read this book, don't get depressed about the surprise ending. The series doesn't end at this book.

The book Scorpia by Anthony Howitiz is one of the best in his series. It is about the continuing story of England's youngest spy Alex Rider. After his last mission where Yessen told Alex to find Scorpia and he will learn about his father moments before his death. Alex is torn whether to find this Scorpia or to stay in England with M16. With an ending that will have you reading it over and over it is a book that you won't want to miss.

I liked this book because Anthony put so much detail in the book. Alex was around the same age as me to So I felt I could relate. The book was filled with so much action that it was bulging out of the cover.

The fourth book in the Alex Rider series had the most captavating plot yet and seemed slightly more realistic. By countinuing this series I believe that Anthony Horwitz can only destroy the belief of Alex Rider.

Four-Teen -Year old Alex Rider has saved the world four times in the past.[I have read all the books already] He was always working for MI6, he has done missions against his will. He lived with his uncle until his uncle[also a spy] was shot and killed. The man who killed his uncle told him about Scorpia in his dieing words. Now he thinks he has found his destiny when he hears that his father had worked for Scorpia, and goes off to join Scorpia himself. Scorpia is an assasination group, by the way.On his first mission for Scorpia he is captured and sent back to Scorpia as a spy. He learns the truth from MI6 about his father afterward, and as he walks out of the building...

Scorpia is a great book for action readers, so if you are one, I advise you to read this book; after you read the others, ofcourse. The good news is that this isn't the last book!

This is a really good book. It's better than the other books in the series because the plot is much deeper. It takes more time to figure out what is happening, but when you do, you are shocked. Scorpia also goes into emotional conficts, and the reader is finally able to relate to Alex. The ending is really cruel to the reader, and you'll want to read it many times. Even still, I changed my opinion many times and became really mad, but I wouldn't have missed reading it for the world. READ THIS BOOK!

I've read all the other Alex Rider books but this one is by far the best. It's got more action than the other books and when you're reading the last few chapters you won't be able to put it down. And for everyone thats already read it, there's another book after Scorpia!!

(Hide Review...)  The best Alex Rider book
Reviewer Permalink
This is by far the best Alex Rider book. It is, as the other books are, filled with action and suspence, but this book is very different than the others. In this book we almost see Alex Rider, a normal, modern kid, transformed into a assasin and terrorist. Scorpia contains a much deeper and psycological story than the other Alex Rider books, fueled by Alex's view of his father's life. In this book there is this terrorist organisation called Scorpia. They contact Alex Rider and try to get him on their side by telling him things about his father that will make him think M16 are the bad guys. They almost succeed, as Alex is sent to kill Mrs.Jones, a worker for M16. But Alex fails, and, caught by M16, and is sent back to Scorpia, but this time as a spy. Alex will have to somehow have to stop Invisible Sword, which is a plan that Scorpia is going to use to kill thousands of children. There is as much action as ever, and as much suspence, but the thing that sets it apart from the other Alex Rider books is its look at the psycological aspects of Alex and how they affect his actions and intents. But the darkest part of this whole story is the ending, which leaves readers hanging and shocked. But don't worry. There is going to be another book in the series.
This book is one the best books I have ever read. Read it. You'll agree with me.
