I really liked this book. The story was great and the romance was very good. The only negative I have to say is - if Terri Mitchell was such a good cop, why in the world did she keep messing up so much? And, she spent so much time trying to prove how good she was as a cop, I actually got sick of hearing her tell everyone "I can handle it" and "I am good at my job". If you can over look her stupidity, then you can like her. Nathan Drake was very hot. Over all this was a very good story and the chemistry between them was hot.

This was my first Sherrilyn Kenyon book or Diana Love book. I know where have I been! Together they have created a fun, fast read. Not your typical romantic suspense with it's over the top James Bond action, but what an incredible read.

The humor. Charming and subtle.

The pacing. Fast-moving and exciting.

The characters. Vividly realistic. Nathan Drake is a hero with a dark side. He moves from a prison cell to the streets of New Orleans to avenge his brother's death. Terri Mitchell is a kick butt heroine with issues of her own. Not the least of which is saving Nathan from himself.
Their romance sizzles.

The plot's a page turner with twists and turns you'll never predict as Nathan and Terri work to stop a world threat that could take the lives of thousands of innocent people.

Phantom is intriguing and emotional. I can't wait for the next B.A.D. adventure.

(Hide Review...)  Another Kenyon Disappointment
Reviewer Permalink
The one thing which can be said for S. Kenyon is that she is creative in finding new ways to disappoint her readers. A Phantom in the Night is not a Kenyon book it is a Diana Snell book. S. Kenyon has decided to follow in the footsteps of fellow authors such as James Paterson who creates a world for one or two books (The Women's Murder Club) and then passes it off to a co-author. The reader then believes he is getting a Kenyon or Patterson book but it is really the work of the co-author. The more established writer is used to draw readers in and to price the book at the better selling author's price point.

Unfortunately, the co-authors seldom have the writing experience to write a best seller and generally shift the "world" which was originally created into their own vision.

A Phantom in the Night has very little to do with B.A.D. as it was originally presented. The agent depicted in this story is brand new (2 to 3 months on the job) and is working a case on her own with only cameo appearances by the other agency operatives.

Other reviewers have described how hokey the villains of the book are so I won't go into detail. If you choose to purchase and read this book (it's not a horrible read just a terribly average one) do so with the understanding that it does not have the Kenyon flair nor does it have the excitement of a B.A.D. sequel.

I started reading Sherrilyn Kenyon's collaborative effort with Dianna Love "Phantom in the Night". I have 3 words for it - Get from Library. It is blatantly which chapters are by Kenyon and vice versa.

This is the first book by Dianna Love that I've read. Dianna Love writes toward the masochist/bondage/torture interest which is okay for those that have the interest. I can't imagine why Kenyon decided to write with Love. Remember the Suzanne Brockman books that went from present time to past time and how distracting it was from the flow of the story. Phantom in the Night is just as distracting.

I think it is time to put Kenyon on the shelf as One Series Hit Wonder. The Dark-Hunter Series has become so wordy and filled with useless knowledge that the die hard fans from the very beginning with Fantasy Lover have felt the series has lost the edge.

Sherrilyn, I, (Chizer in Florissant) am truly sorry to write but feel a loyalty to all the Kenyon fans that wait months, even years for another book to save their much coveted book allowance for another book. This is a borrow from library book, especially considering the price!

So where do I begin? I adored Terri and Nathan, their passion for justice, their lines between right and wrong, including the grey areas. I think they balance each other perfectly.

Terri is stubborn, has a mind of her own, with something to prove, I think more for herself and anyone else. She pushes herself, even when she should be taking a break. She believes vehemently in right and wrong.

Nathan wants to find the person who killed his brother. While his is a sort of vigilante justice, something Terri abhors, he isn't killing anyone. He's saving that for the one person who actually pulled the trigger.

What I liked was the spice between them, the electicity spiked the second they were together, even when neither knew who or what the other was.

Lots of action and suspense, with a little romance mixed in. An excellent mix. The plot seemed a little far-fetched to me, but still doable, and the ending has an unresolved issure that has me wondering if it will be part of the next plot.

This is what I found different: While there is usually lots of interaction between all agents of the B.A.D., there was hardly any here. Very little laughs when usually there's quite a bit. It was almost like the author didn't really know the characters. And that has me wondering... There's a co-author to this, something I haven't seen Sherri do before, not on one of her own stories. And I wonder if it was the co-author who wrote most of it. While I really hate to admit that, because I adore the series, that's the feel I'm getting. Not to say that's a bad thing, don't get me wrong. It just didn't have the same feel as the other B.A.D. stories. I've never read, nor have I heard, of Dianna Love Snell, so I don't know what her writing style is like, so I can't fault her.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this, I can't give it my usual 5-star rating. And that doesn't sit well with me. This novel was well past a year overdue - I think it's actually closer to two. The next novel is supposed to be Joe and Tee's story and it should have been out by now. I know she's really busy with her DH series (which I can't get enough of), and her other series' as well, and I'm hoping the next one doesn't have a co-author. Joe and Tee deserve more of her attention. If not, I'm really scared that the B.A.D. series is going to suffer.

I simply loved this book. I am a big SK fan, and I have to say this is now my favorite book by her, outside of the early DH books. I was hesitant to buy this book when I saw it was co-written, but I'm glad I did because it turned out to be the perfect example of what Romantic Suspense should be. The suspense was creepy & just complicated enough, while the romance was just outstanding.

I loved how the relationship between Nathan & Terri never felt rushed, instead it progressed slowly and hotly. Terri was a strong woman but not so much that she couldn't admit that she needed help - this is important to me because I HATE TSTL heroines! Nathan was smart, hot & alpha to the core - nuff said, LOL. The bad guys were spooky but realistic in an underworld type of way.

If you read the other BAD stories and didnt really care for them, please try this one, you will find it's on another level. The writing is great & fast paced & the plot won't release you until it's done.

Im a hugh fan of this author but can find nothing to say positive about this book. I have always felt that the BAD series was her weakest but this book is beyond awful. The plot was juvenile, the characters shallow, the leading lady annoying and lacking in the common sense necessary to stay alive and the intimate scenes boring. I am sad to say that I am no longer willing to buy the books in this series. I don't know about any of you other readers but I'm tired of the know it all female who thinks she can handle everything on her own yet always manages to get kidnapped. I guess she is supposed to be fiesty but she is more immature and obnoxious than anything.

I read this book recently and loved it.

I've read Kenyon, and I've read Love (formerly writing as Dianna Love Snell). The interesting thing is that this book is NEITHER Kenyon NOR Love, but is like a whole new author. I couldn't pick out one or the other here. The book has the strengths of both I think.

I'm not sure how the two of them did this, as I understand collaboration is difficult and seldom works well, but this one does work. It's a brilliant blend.

The hero in this book is incredible. A strong, wounded man. A great character.

It has a "larger world threat" and they've set the stage for a whole series of great stories from the B.A.D. agency, which now has a lot more punch and a really cool edge. I get into connected series and I'm already looking forward to the next book.

I'm totally pumped that two amazing writers have found a way to give us readers something different from what either of them does alone, and something unexpected.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dianna Love Snell's debut, RITA Award winning book, WORTH EVERY RISK!! How cool to find that she's now writing as Diana Love in collaboration with Sherrilyn Kenyon. If you're in the mood for a fast paced, page turning suspense, you won't want to miss PHANTOM IN THE NIGHT!

(Hide Review...)  A Sudden Co-Author?

I pre-ordered this book on Amazon in March 2006. Back then it was supposed to be written by Sherrilyn Kenyon and was titled "Look Into The Dark." So over two years later, the book arrives and it's got SK's name in huge type, a new title, and lo and behold, a co-author. Uh-oh. Yeah, the BAD series isn't my favorite from SK, and now there's some other author involved. It's not a bad book. Really. But I didn't see much Sherrilyn Kenyon in it. I've never read Dianne Love, but I'd bet she did the heavy lifting on this one. This book isn't funny; the main characters are distant, although I liked the hero better than the heroine; the baddies are a bunch (and I mean *bunch*) of (undefined, but seemed kinda Catholic) religious nutjob sadists...blech. I found it unbelievable...and I totally accept the existence of Acheron and the Dark-Hunters. The ending wrapped up really fast, leaving a wide open space for sequels galore. The last BAD book I remember reading had lots more interaction of BAD agents; this one had cameos with Joe, Tee, Carlos, and Mako. The whole thing left me very unsatisfied.

Intriguing and emotional, PHANTOM OF THE NIGHT was exactly what I was looking for. It was the perfect blend of romance and suspense with well-drawn characters including a wounded, yet honorable hero and strong heroine. I can't wait to read the next adventure by Kenyon and Love!

I've always loved Sherrilyn's writing and Dianna's knock-out, award-winning first book so couldn't wait to read Phantom In the Night and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! Compelling. Fast-paced. I really tried to set it down but couldn't. My only disappointment was reaching the end of the story because I wasn't ready to leave BAD Agency and this larger-than-life cast of characters. Can't wait for the next book in the series!!!

I wanted to like this book. It was on my must-have list and I bought it the day it came out. It's possible that I over-hyped the book in my own mind and that my diappointment in it is exaggerated, making me judge it more harshly than deserved.

I can't really pinpoint my least favorite part of the book. Maybe it was misused words (i.e. lathed when laved seemed appropriate) or maybe it was the cartoonish over the top secret society villians. I had to roll my eyes several times at the utter lack of plausibility, even within the confines of suspended belief required to enjoy fiction and often, I wondered at the seemingly out of character actions for such highly trained operatives. I finished the book, and I even enjoyed parts of it, but I had to repeatedly put it down when the story became tedious and/or boring.

Overall, I'd say it was inconsistent, with delusions of grandeur.

Note: this review was written on my iPod touch, so please excuse misspellings and typos.
