The left has always had a hard time with Horowitz since he was one of their own in the sixties. His Jewish parents were communists and he himself was a proponent of Marxism at a younger and less mature age. As he matured he recognized the inconsistencies and failing policies of the left demonstrated not only by North Korea, East Germany, the former Soviet Union and other failed communistic/socialistic societies but even those currently being pushed by people as contemporary as Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.
This book exposes the true hard left core of the Democratic party and why it's positions on Iraq and most other political issues are a minimum of ineffective but more likely destructive to the country. The incredible and inspiring success of the USA is the freedom that it allows it's citizens to be the best they can be. Under Marxism or Socialism the power belongs to the bureaucrats and they will tell you what you should be and where you should live. Central planning (read nationalized healthcare, oil, etc.) has never worked and will never work. Democrats believe in big government - Republicans, Libertarians, and most Independents believe in the individual. This difference in political philosophy is why the Democratic Party is not just the Party of Defeat but the party to be defeated. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-02 08:39:05 EST)

Americans who care about the future of our country and the future of freedom in the democracies of the world must read Party of Defeat by Horowitz and Johnson. The book follows the events leading up to the War on Terror and the events that followed. The authors prove with hard evidence and meticulous documentation that the War in Iraq was a necessary war and one that was supported by Democrats and Republican and most Democracies around the globe.
The authors show though exact quotes and voting records how the Democrats in congress have undermined America's ability to win the war from the first few weeks into the conflict. The President and Commander in Chief has been under relentless attacks from the Democrats and their sympathizers in the main stream media. They show how the Democrats have provided our enemies with enormous propaganda to hurt America's standing in the world, and how their words and actions have demonized our military. Our freedom is a fragile thing that has been paid for by the lives of countless men and women over the years since the nations founding. Islamic extremists do not believe in human freedom and their goal is to establish a religious caliphate and spread radical Islam around the world. Democrats think that to abandon Iraq and bring our soldiers home will be the end of the war. All you have to do to realize this will not happen is to listen to the words of our enemies. War will be brought to American soil and nothing will stop the radicals from pursuing their goal of world domination. America must wake up to this threat. Every great civilization has eventually been brought down by barbarians who have no respect for life or freedom. Will we leave Iraq to these barbarians? Will we let the radicals grow stronger until they have nuclear bombs? The Iranian President has threatened to wipe Israel off the map and to do the same to America whom he calls the big Satan. These radicals are haters and if given the chance will kill anyone who does not agree with them. The Party of Defeat is the most important book of 2008 and every American should read it and then decide which political party will protect this country and which one will surrender to the terrorists. In this thoroughly researched and heavily footnoted book, Horowitz and Johnson set forth and explicate with exacting precision the relentless campaign the American Left and the Democratic Party have pursued to discredit George W. Bush and the War on Islamic Fascism. Unfortunately many, if not most Americans have forgotten the details of how the Democrats and the Left have undermined our country's response to Islamic radicals beginning with the Carter administration.
The authors clearly organize their thesis into 5 sections: The Path to 9-11, The Response to 9-11, Why America Went to War, The War Against the War, and Conclusion. They demonstrate with unassailable factual narrative how Presidents Carter and Clinton, in concert with an anti-war leftist establishment and willing accomplices both in the mainstream media and the Democratic Party refused to confront our enemies, leading inexorably to the 9-11 attacks. This was itself inexcusable, but it was unfortunately only a prelude to the shocking and unprecedented betrayal of our forces in the field - first in Afghanistan, then in Iraq. The Democrats first voted to authorize military action in Iraq using the same intelligence information the President had at his disposal, and then not only rescinded their support of our military while they were actively engaged in battle, but launched a full-scale political attack on their commander-in-chief, branding him a liar and a war criminal. This despicable and treasonous behavior has fractured America's resolve, damaged our troops' morale, and weakened the President's ability to prosecute the war. Top-ranking Democratic leaders have demonstrated by their statements and actions that they fail utterly to understand the nature of this war and its implications. Every American owes it to themselves to become familiar with this material so that they can combat the misinformation campaign being waged internally - if unwittingly by some - on behalf of our enemies. Horowitz and Johnson have produced a tour de force analysis of what is quite possibly the most serious political betrayal in American history. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-22 06:44:23 EST)

I think reviewers on both sides are taking this "book" much too seriously.
Horowitz has either intentionally or unwittingly written a hysterically funny comic book. I mean Archie Bunker meets Stephen Colbert meets Mad Magazine, this is a riot. Read some of the silliest passages out loud and you will see what I mean. Since most Americans now consider phony "conservatives" like DH a joke (see the 2006 election returns and watch closely the returns this November), I suppose this is appropriate. Bob Dole was pretty funny when he talked about "Democrat Wars" in 1996 but this stuff is priceless. The lunatic right is pretty much dead, so they are now reduced to satire. Mel Brooks needs to make a movie out of this: How about "Springtime for Cheney." Nah, it's been done before. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-18 06:55:38 EST)

David was a jerk and an embarrassment when he was on the left, and he remains a jerk and an embarrassment as a righty, even though he must be what, 65 or 70 years old? For yucks, punch up his name under "books," and review his titles. They alone will reveal his shallow obsession with Democrat-hating. If you are the type of person who can hug his/her radio for 3-5 hours a day listening to the endless and mindless repetition of right wing blather, then by all means buy this book. If, however, you seek knowledge rather than mere stroking of your prejudices, fears, and hatred, you might look elsewhere. This guy is running out of time to mature.

One star rating for ability to actually get it published.
Interesting read if not only to see how facts can be sophmorically, selectived, presented, distorted and ignored to support a thesis. Calculative misuse and abuse of facts. In his book, David Horowitz provides an unsound scathing review of the Democratic Party in what he believes is the failure of the same to march in lockstep with the deceiptful, criminal and unpatriotic behavior of the Bush Administration, the Commander in Chief, and the Republican Party. Rather than filter one's views through the concepts that made this country and the people of this so country great - love, respect, compassion, a willingness by most to understand one another and seek common ground, his views revolve around how if a person challenges the Power of the Presdident they must be defeatest, unpatriotic and destructive. The book does not question the authority or judgement of a President that will likely go down in history as the most incompetent ever. Nor does it provide any meaningful justification for the misinformation provided to Congress in the lead up to the Authorization For Use of Military Force Against Iraq and the failure of the President to certify that a threat actually existed. This book serves no constructive purpose other than to provide a biased defense for the policies of a failed presidency and to continue to breed divicivness in a time that we all must come together to reconstruct the catastrophic damage this President has done to our respect and integrity in the world. If anything it smacks of paid propaganda and a feeble attempt to resurrect the legacy of an Admninistration that is best forgotten. No attention is paid to the misteps, deceipt, and underlying motives of the Bush Administration and its failure to unite the people of the world after one of the biggest tragedies of our time. Nor is any attention paid to the failures of the Bush Administration to heed the warnings that had been presented to it in advance of 911. In short, this book is a pander to those that consider themselves neoconservatives before they consider themselves American's. To those who would rather use the power of government to help their personal crusade and causes above those of the collective whole. The book is useful, however, if you're trying to understand the world of Limbaugh and O'Reilly, and the types of misinformation campaigns of those who, like Mr. Horowitz, benefit by helping to keep this great country divided. One's time would be better spend scanning the video archives of President Bush's statements - for it is here that the sheer inconsistency of Bush's statements and actions can alone quash the premise of this book. Horowitz aptly points out that those mindlessly joining in the cacophony of "Bush lied, people died!!" are blissfully unaware of the facts. Democrats voted for the war too. They had the exact same 100-page memo on their desk as President Bush did. They too thought that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Clinton thought they did, and so did Al Gore. It was not a lie concocted by Bush; it's what Saddam wanted the world to think, a fabrication advertised to keep Iran from invading. Shortly after voting for the war, however, many Dems changed their tune. They realized that success decreased their likelihood of a November victory.
Horowitz also points out other inanities, such as Hillary going around talking about "those evil oil companies." The days of the likes of Rockefeller are long gone. Oil companies are owned by people who own stock in oil companies. And who owns stock in oil companies--rich, evil, millionaires? How about average working-class Americans! More than 50% of Americans own stocks, and many of them have some stock in oil companies, including the hypocritical Hillary Clinton. The price of oil is driven by supply and demand. There has already been an investigation that found that Clinton's alleged "price fixing" is a myth. Demand is going WAY up as developing countries that have discovered the efficiency of free-market capitalism are now building infrastructure at an almost exponential rate. China wants 2 billion barrels just to build its roads. If it is willing to pay $120 a barrel, then other countries will have to too. If China will pay $200 a barrel, then guess what? The left wants you to believe that we are in the Middle East on an imperialistic project to steal their oil, despite the fact that there really isn't much oil left there. Meanwhile, record-breaking oil discoveries right here in America go untapped--again, because of the left. This drives the price of oil up as demand outstrips supply. Also driving the price of oil up is the government's exorbitant gas tax. It makes more money off of gas sales than Exxon does, yet Exxon has to find the oil, get it, process and ship it. Hillary tells Americans that the oil companies should pay this gas tax--which is yet more deceit. Businesses do not pay taxes. They pass the cost on to the consumer in the form of embedded taxes in the price of the good. If she gets her way and the price of gas does not go down--and it wouldn't--then she can again pander to her ignorant base that it's because of the "greed" of the corporation. Never mind oppressive taxation. Never mind economics 101. Horowitz's point is that the left thinks America is bad and wants to see it punished. We should enter into a union with European nations and abandon the constitution. They want us to think that the constitution--a "living" document--is now obsolete. They, these lofty third-party decision makers, have the wisdom to create a utopia--if only we'd assign them enough power to make it so. They abandon the principles of the founding fathers. As Sir Karl Popper said, all who seek power have mediocre minds and character. The question then is not, "Who shall rule," but, "How can we construct our government so that those who are elected will do the least amount of damage as possible?" The founding fathers came up with a good answer, and the modern left is trying to undo it. Why? Because the founding fathers' answer was to give the leader minimal power--not enough power to satiate the wills of liberal politicians. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-18 06:53:46 EST)

Joseph Goebbels would recognize Horowitz's style of branding opponents of state terror "traitors." Goebbels was an admirer of the writings of Edward Bernays, a founder of the public relations industry who wrote books like Propaganda. Horowitz follows in that tradition, claiming to be a patriot by ignoring the crimes of his own country. It's a sort of patriotism that is more akin to a quasi-religion, with Horowitz playing the role of high priest to condemn the non-believers.
His self-righteous schtick consciously ignores the war profiteering and resource grab that are at the root of superpower violence Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers. He leaves out the warnings of military icons like General Dwight Eisenhower Why We Fight and General Smedley Butler War is a Racket: The Antiwar Classic by America's Most Decorated Soldier. Horowitz's rage brings to mind a comment of General Douglas MacArthur who said, "It is part of the general pattern of misguided policy that our country is now geared to an arms economy which was bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and nurtured upon an incessant propaganda of fear" (from a 1951 speech by MacArthur, quoted in Total Insecurity: The Myth of American Omnipotence among other sources). For people who have economic or emotional interests in supporting U.S. imperialism, "Party of Defeat" will provide the same sort of delusion that is provided on right-wing talk radio every single day. For those who want to deal with the realities of state terror, I'd recommend What We Say Goes: Conversations on U.S. Power in a Changing World and A People's History of American Empire by the people Horowitz most loves to hate, Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn. With clarity and logic, together with detailed documented facts, Horowitz and Johnson trace the history of terrorism in America, and the responses of Democratic leaders to the nation's decision to defend herself decisively. Initially, Democrats recognized the threat, but eventually turned on the very decisions they had made, and the logic they followed, to knife our President and our military in the back. This recounting of the history of events up to 9/11 and subsequently shouldn't even be necessary. Anyone who has kept his eyes and ears open is aware of the facts. But many Americans insist on being willfully ignorant. Democrats have chosen to engage in treasonous actions for political gain.
The two authors point out that the rationale for the invasion of Iraq was based, not on the likelihood of Weapons of Mass Destruction existing in Iraq at the time, but on the evident intent and actions of Saddam to pursue the production of such weapons, and use them. And in addition, Saddam used WMD on his own people, killing hundreds of thousands, and the Iranians. Facts that show this are outlined clearly. Saddam had been given a truce, but the condition was that he would agree not to pursue WMD, and repeatedly Saddam broke this truce. The United States was patient for many years. Clinton saw the need to deal with him and said so. We also became aware that Saddam WAS cooperating with al Qaeda in particular, and terrorists in general. He was also moving with full steam to develop the very weapons programs he had agreed not to pursue. Going into Iraq was NOT for the purpose of harming the nation or the Iraqi people. It was strictly for the purpose of getting Saddam out of power. Numerous attempts to get him to comply with his treaty or step down and go into exile failed. The way in which the United States conducted the war showed that the intent was to depose Saddam, and every care was taken to protect the people of Iraq. In the disinformation campaign that followed, a typical accusation was that the Baghdad Museum had been looted of 170,000 artifacts. In reality, there were only 170,000 artifacts total, most of which had been removed for safekeeping by staff. Only a few dozen were lost. But this type of information was never corrected, and was used to condemn President Bush. Also ignored was the fact that Saddam released all the criminals before he was deposed. Much of the subsequent violence was caused by these criminals. Disinformation was rampant, including that perpetrated by Joseph Wilson, who claimed that documents concerning purchase of yellowcake from Niger were forged months before he would have had access to them. Repeatedly, the authors show how the left used lies of their own to defame the President, who had been telling the truth all along. The complicity of MoveOn.org, Cindy Sheehan, other fellow travelers, and the media is also discussed. The book shows that the Red Cross and our military were also dragged through the mud. This book will tell you what you need to know about the treachery, sabotage, and sedition of Democratic leaders. At this moment, it is a timely warning. Perhaps someday, we will be able to determine how many of our brave troops were murdered as a result of this relentless campaign. If we want to retain our freedoms and way of life, we MUST stand up to terrorists wherever they are found. This book will give you the facts that will help you to make a case against people who refuse to pay attention and who are intent on pursuing national suicide. For those of us who do not desire to share their intended fate, it is a must read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-18 06:53:46 EST)

The Democrats were also in favor of defeat during the Civil War. They ran an anti-war candidate then (George McClellan - 1864) who would have ended the war and maintained slavery in the Confederacy.

David Horowitz is waging his own war against the political correctness of the left wing that has run amok! As always his work is well documented and should be read by every American. The looney left has taken control of the Democratic Party and it would appear that many Democrats are not aware that this is so. Look what they did to Joe Lieberman who speaks for most of Middle America! Wake up!

If we analyze this book we find all the classic reactions of people who have been disappointed in love. But no one dreams of criticizing them for their past, even though it has marked them forever. They may well have been converted, but they have not changed. No one notices the constants, even though they are glaringly obvious. This book, just like others that Horowitz has written, prove, thanks to the support of the most indulgent and slothful critics anyone could hope for, that the public can be fooled. No one denounces or even notices the arrogance of both yesterday's eulogies and today's diatribes; no one cares that there is never any proof and that invective is used in place of analysis. Horowitz was ignored when he was a Stalinist, but now, his inverted hyper-Stalinism-which takes the usual form of total manicheanism-is whitewashed simply because it is serviceable to the US elite. The hysteria has not changed, but it gets a better welcome in its present guise.

The Democratic Party leader, Franklin D. Roosevelt, helped to save civilization during WWII. Sadly, our current Democrats are often dishonest pacifists who constantly apologize for being American. They are back stabbers who never hesitate to blame their own country for the murderous rage of our enemies. To be blunt: far too many Democrats are self hating Americans. This state of mind is especially dangerous while we are engaged in an existential struggle to the death against Islamic nihilism. David Horowitz and Ben Johnson painstakingly reveal the extent of their subconscious betrayal of the United States. And please note that I'm distinguishing between subconscious and overt betrayal. These people are deluding themselves to the point where they are no longer in touch with reality. They now embrace a cultural milieu built on the quicksand of postmodernist fantasy.
"Party of Defeat" is a harsh reminder of just how important is the near future elections. I am utterly convinced that the country is doomed if the Democrats capture the White House. You are likely to come to the same conclusion after reading this important book. After all, Senator Joseph Lieberman, for all practical purposes, has been excommunicated. Only the tacitly traitorous remain. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-12 22:04:21 EST)
