This category of book--if only they had been written in the 1930s--what we could have avoided in death, maiming and carnage.
This is one of the the best I've seen on the nature of our enemies, with an excellent forward by the esteemed Prof. Gingrich. When the Islamofascists say "Death to America" they are talking about You, You, You, and the "moderate" Muslim (where are they?) You have no excuse to say, "I did not know"!!! The information is everywhere, and a 10th grader can comprehend this book. We have been warned, over and over, and told, "just keep shopping." Now our defense is being contracted out to foreigners. We are committing national suicide. Here's a good example, from Must-See Saudi TV II (our allies)...Q: If a child aske[ed] you "who are the Jews, what would you answer? MAN ON THE STREET: I. Allah's wrath is upon them and they all stray from the path of righteousness. They are the filthiest peopl on the face of this earth because they care only about themselves, Not the Christians (also to be killed--author) or the Muslims or any other religion.....There is a country with a population of over 60 to 70 million, if we let them only march, with no weapons even, they (the surrounding countries-au.) would completely trample the Jews. Of course, what applies to the Jews applies to all "Kuffar" (non-radical Muslim). Death to all and world conquest. Watch a film about the Holocaust, or look at some photos. What more do you need to know? Cardinal Niemolloer of Germany was right, we must speak out now. Otherwise, when the come for us, there will be no one to defend us! For too long we have shrugged our shoulders as people pronounce hate against us. Whereas we might regard their statements as hate speech if they were said in our country or if one of us said them against the 'other' we shrug our shoulders because we assume, wrongly, that it is 'their culture' to hate and it is 'natural' and therefore we should understand their hateful statements to be acceptable. This book dares to ask us to actually read what they say and also learn from it and take it seriously. Oddly enough people do not take Hizbullah's NAssrallah or Hamas or Bin Laden seriously. They are even less threatened by Hugo Chavez, Putin and China. That is a mistake. People in the U.S should start listening and they should not tolerate the hatred against them and the fate metted out to them by their opponents.

I was born and grew up to age 11 without a television...I find television "entertainment" as well as "news" is extremely empty of reality!!!
This book and many others I have read, first world history books by many authors, World at War histories....this is the kind of book that explains why we must always be ready to defend ourselves although Pres Bush has made a disaster of his defense of our country financially and personally to each of our troops and their families. Too bad Presidents and other top government officials are not required to pass a History of the world especially in the 1800's and 1900's so that wars can be averted before they ever start!!! In addition, any new national leader especially the President and Secy of State should be well aware of the words uttered in the 1900's that got us into unintended wars simply because of their statements to the American People as well as their actions while in office. This is one of the most timely, but at the same time one of the most scary, books I have read lately and, I believe, tells it like it is. I applaud Jed Babbin for taking the risk of trying to warn America of the terrible threat that is out there and becoming more of a reality every day. I believe every household in America should have a copy of this outstanding book. As a Christian minister I have done considerable research on Muslims and Islam, and find that Islam is not a religion of peace, as many on the liberal side of the spectrum would have us believe, but truly a religion of hate. I fear for this country and for my children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, most of the people in the United States seem to be more interested in American Idol, sports, fantasy, etc., and have their head in the sand as far as the terrible threat that is confronting not only America, but the whole world. Therefore, I say again, we had better WAKE UP AMERICA BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who has not yet awakened to the peril we all face as freedom loving people should read this book. One cannot fail to make the comparisons to the years leading up to WWII. The people of the world at that time did not heed the blatant declarations of our enemies, just as most seem to be be failing to take them seriously now. If we do not recognize the warnings now, we do so at the risk of losing our freedom for ourselves and our posterity. For the sake of our liberty and the libery of our descendents, please read this book and keep vigilant.

One needs only to read the titles of the other books published by Jed Babbin to understand the goal of this book. If "Showdown: Why China Wants War With the United States" and "Why the UN and Old Europe Are Worse Than You Think" aren't books designed to cause fear then they are incredibly misnamed.
This book is filled with hypocrisy at every turn. Babbin denounces the propaganda of the islamofascists by creating a propaganda book of his own. This book is not informative of the terrorists' goals in the least but is rather a collection of them saying "We hate Jews and Americans" so many times that instead of being shocking it becomes boring. If Babbin's goal was anything but to cause fear, this book would provide excerpts of WHY the terrorists hate us (NOT because they hate our freedom, that's stupid and blatantly false rhetoric,) instead of confirmation that they hate us. Babbin also decides to bold every single sentence that contains the words "hate" and "America" just to emphasize that which we already know. We get it Babbin, they hate us. Great job on the book. Next time try to help people instead of instill fear in them. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-09-05 02:34:03 EST)

I found Jed Babbin's collection of speeches and writings by the muslim leaders of militant Islam to be chilling and frightening. They've been preaching death to America and Israel for many years and it's obvious we've not been listening, especially the liberals in this country who don't seem to see any imminent threat, like candidate John Edwards who calls the war on terror a bumper sticker slogan.
Once anyone reads this important 'history' book, their eyes will be opened to what awaits us if we stop paying attention. Jed Babbin has written a book that all Americans should read and become educated as to what Jihad is all about and Islam's plans to launch it, worldwide, and turn the entire planet Earth into a 13th century world. I recommend it highly! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-11 19:40:16 EST)

An initial reading of this book will elicit fear of a world with a hatred toward america.
Babbin does a disservice to readers by presenting quotes that while accurate, as presented, are misleading in their context. Babbin fails to present or explain why the world says what it does about america. "in the words of our enemies" comes across as little more than another 'us against them' tirad, simplistic and distracting. The united states remains the most powerful country on the planet but why the right, like babbin, attempt to maintain that position thru paranoia (or deceit)rather than leadership and intelligence makes one think the right prefers a path of intellectual sloth rather than the more difficult path of problem recognition and leadership solutions. certainly a lot of research. Anyone familiar with the definition of Terrorism can tell that Terrorism can also be sponsored by the government: to use fear as a weapon of persuasion and submission of its citizens. One of the main tools used by terrorists is propaganda trough the press, movies and TV.
It took me minutes to realize this work was totally biased. All I had to do was to Look at the references. Since most people won't believe that the Iranian president was mis-quoted on purpose by the media, I encourage people to look up the actual quote, and to research the information I posted below. You will realize that this book, as many others of it's kind, is pure propaganda and Yellow Journalism. LEARN THE TRUTH (From KRYSSTAL 's (dot) COM web site) At the end of the First World War (1918), Iran (or Persia as it was then called) was a monarchy. The king, Reza Shah, developed his country and called in foreign technicians to help. These included engineers from the UK and countries in Europe. The UK controlled much of the oil development through the company Anglo-Iranian Oil. In 1941, the UK wanted Iran to expel technicians from Germany as the two countries were at war. Iran refused as it had declared itself neutral. The UK and Russia disregarded this and occupied the country. The UK exiled Reza Shah and took control of communications. The UK placed the exiled king's son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, onto the throne. In 1942 USA troops took control of the country's railway line. After the end of World War II, the USA, UK and Russia withdrew as agreed with the new king. However the victorious allies failed to pay promised compensation for the use of Iran as a supply route during the War. Free elections brought reformer Mohammed Mossadeq to power. Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the Shah (king) of Iran takes power in a coup planned and supported by the USA and UK secret services (Operation Ajax). He topples the flourishing and popular democracy of Mohammed Mossadeq. Mossadeq had stated that the mineral wealth of the country should benefit its citizens. This did not please the Western oil companies. The parliament had nationalised UK oil concessions that were reaping 88% of the profits from the country's oil industry. Iran had offered the UK 25% of the profits. The UK responded by imposing a blockade on Iran and freezing Iranian assets. After the coup, oil concessions are given to USA and UK companies - Anglo-Iranian Oil is renamed British Petroleum. Internal dissent is crushed by the secret police. This brutal regime terrorises the country for 25 years and is eventually displaced by Ayatollah Khomeini's equally brutal regime in 1979. The new regime is described by the USA newspaper, the New York Times (6 August) as "good news indeed" and sends out a chilling warning: "Underdeveloped countries with rich resources now have an object lesson in the heavy cost that must be paid by one of their number which goes berserk with fanatical nationalism. It is perhaps too much to hope that Iran's experience will prevent the rise of Mossadeqs in other countries, but that experience may at least strengthen the hands of more reasonable and more far-seeing leaders." In the above quote, fanatical nationalism means being independent economically of the USA while reasonable and far-seeing mean compliant. The American CIA first uses the term Blowback. It is a metaphor for the unintended consequences of the USA government's international activities that have been kept secret from the American people. The term is coined during the Iranian coup. In Iran, a flourishing democracy is converted to a brutal dictatorship which becomes and anti-West theocracy (rule by religion). In 1954, In regional elections in Iran, agents of the Shah (Reza Pahlavi) raid a religious school and hurl hundreds of students to their deaths from the roof. The regime receives 100% of the vote in an election which registers more votes than there are voters. In 1957, In Iran, the Shah, Reza Pahlavi, sets up a secret police agency (SAVAK). This agency is managed by the USA CIA at all levels of daily operation, including the choice and organization of personnel, selection and operation of equipment, and the running of agents. SAVAK's torture methods include electric shock, whipping, beating, inserting broken glass and pouring boiling water into the rectum, putting weights to the testicles, and the extraction of teeth and nails. Iran under the unelected Shah becomes a USA ally and a base for spy operations against the USSR. 1979 Iran, under the Western backed Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, executes several government officials. The West does little as the Shah allows oil and business concessions. The Ayatolla Khomeini overthrows the Shah. The new government has an equally bad human rights record but is denounced by the West because it removes the business concessions enjoyed by Western companies. The Shah flees to the USA. Iranians occupy the American Embassy demanding the Shah's repatriation. In response, the USA freezes Iran's assets in America. General Mansour Moharari (one of the Shah's torturers) also flees to the USA. In 1973 USA Senator, Henry Jackson had boasted that "the strength and Western orientation of Israel on the Mediterranean and Iran [under the Shah] on the Persian Gulf [are] two reliable friends of the United States [who] have served to inhibit and contain those irresponsible and radical elements in certain Arab States who, were they free to do so, would pose a grave threat indeed to our principal sources of petroleum in the Persian Gulf". In 1980, Iraq invades Iran beginning a war that would last for 10 years killing over 1,000,000 people. The USA opposes United Nations condemnation of the invasion and removes Iraq from its list of "nations supporting terrorism". Iraq is financed by Saudi Arabia and armed by the UK and USA. Ten years later these weapons would be turned towards these supporters. The USA also sent arms to Iran secretly via Israel; both countries hoping a military coup would take place. In 1982, The USA continues to arm Iraq in its war against Iran. The USA CIA is implicated in a number of plots to assassinate the leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini. In 1987, The UK and USA step up naval activity in the Persian Gulf. The USA navy seizes an Iranian ship in international waters near Iran. This is another example of the USA military patrolling provocatively close to Middle Eastern countries. In 1988, The USA bombs oil facilities in Iran. The USA destroyer, the US Vincennes in Iranian territorial waters, shoots down an Iranian commercial flight (Iran Air 654) in Iranian airspace killing all 286 passengers. The USA refuses to apologize; vice president, George Bush is quoted in the magazine, Newsweek: "I will never apologize for the United States of America. I don't care what the facts are". In 1995, The USA imposes oil and trade sanctions against Iran. The reasons given are the usual ones of "sponsorship of terrorism, seeking to acquire nuclear arms and hostility to the Middle East peace process". In 2002, The USA threatens to attack countries it considers part of an "axis of evil". These countries include Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Cuba and Sudan. These countries are accused of sponsoring terrorism and amassing weapons of mass destruction. The USA military budget for 2001 was $ 343,000 million. This is 69% greater than that of the next five highest nations combined. Russia, which has the second largest military budget, spends less than one sixth of the USA budget. The above named "axis of evil" states spend $ 14,400 million combined (4% of the USA budget) with more than half of this amount accounted for by Iran. None of the "axis" countries is under USA political control. Ignacio Ramonet, writing for the French newspaper, La Monde states that USA "military domination is now absolute. And the punishment it has inflicted on Afghanistan warns all other countries: anyone opposing the USA will be isolated, devoid of allies, and exposed to the real danger of being bombed back to the stone age. A list of the likely targets has now been publicly announced in the USA press: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, North Korea." In a speech at West Point on 1 June the USA president said there were 60 countries that were potential targets for regime change. In 2003, Iran passes a law raising the minimum age for the death penalty, life sentences and lashes from 15 to 18. The unelected Guardian Council bans hundreds of candidates from standing in the elections. In an interview with USA television station, WCBS, in late May USA Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, discusses whether military force will be used against Iran: "That's up to the President but the fact is that to the extent that Iran attempts to influence what's taking place in Iraq and tries to make Iraq into their image, we will have to stop it. And to the extent they have people from their Revolutionary Guard in they're attempting to do that, why we'll have to find them and capture them or kill them." Another USA television station, CNN, asked Assistant Secretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz, whether military force will be used to weed out the clerics running the country. His response: "you know, I think you know, we never rule out that kind of thing." 2007 In late 2006 the USA Treasury threaten UK banks who have business dealings in Iran. One senior executive stated that "the consequences of not toeing the American line on Iran have not yet been made clear, but we were left in no doubt that we might not want to find out". The UK government, whose job it is to protect UK citizens and interests, makes no comment. According to the financial section of the UK newspaper, The Independent, "..UK business leaders - traditionally the biggest fans of America - are growing increasingly worried about what [the UK's] 'special relationship' with the US actually entails". KryssTal Opinion: Welcome to how the rest of the world views the USA. In January USA forces enter an Iranian consulate in the city of Mosul (northern Iraq) and arrest diplomats. Computer equipment and documents were also taken. Violation of embassies and consulates is not allowed under international law. Even the puppet government in Baghdad call for the release of the diplomats (which the USA ignores). The story is under-reported in the Western media. The USA orders a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf. The Gulf is the body of water that borders southern Iran. KryssTal Opinion: One wonders what the reaction would be if two Iranian warships were patrolling the waters off the coast of the USA. Israeli military begin training to use nuclear weapons against Iran. The USA talks about the use of nuclear "bunker buster" bombs. Such bombs would cause massive nuclear contamination and would violate the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which both the USA and Iran have signed (but not signed by other nuclear powers in the region such as Israel, Pakistan and India). Use of nuclear weapons (especially against a non-nuclear state) would violate the United Nations Charter, other parts of international law, and the constitution of the USA. Iran has not attacked or threatened to attack any country since the end of World War II. It defended itself when invaded by a USA backed and armed Iraq in the 1980s. Its Uranium enrichment does not violate the Non-Proliferation Treaty. In addition, the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency has found no evidence of a nuclear weapons programme. Iran does have oil, however, as well as a government that has defied the USA by removing a USA-installed regime in 1979. The USA accuses Iran of being responsible for the deaths of its occupying forces in Iraq. This is contradicted by the USA's own National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) which asserted in February 2007 that Iran's involvement in Iraq "is not likely to be a major driver of violence" there. Phyllis Bennis of the Institute for Policy Studies (based in the Netherlands) has analysed the reasons for the USA's threats on Iran: "U.S. interest in controlling Iran, or at least undermining its independence, sovereignty and potential power, is not a new phenomenon. The U.S. overthrew the democratically elected Iranian leader Mohammed Mossadegh in 1953; installed, armed and protected brutal dictatorships (the Shah of Iran); cut off diplomatic relations and imposed tight economic sanctions (the Islamic Republic from 1979); and provided seed stock for biological weapons, targeting information for chemical weapons, and financial backing for Iran's enemy (Iraq) throughout the years of the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988)." "The reasons have not changed. Iran is one of only two countries in the Middle East that contains the three prerequisites for indigenous power: oil / wealth, water, large land and population. The only other country is (or was...) Iraq." "Later the U.S. moved strategically to prevent either regional power from challenging overall U.S. domination of the Middle East. It was on that basis that the U.S. backed Saddam Hussein's Iraq throughout the Gulf War - because Iran was stronger, so the U.S. weighed in on the side of the weaker competitor to keep the war going and encourage both regional challengers to waste their blood and treasure fighting each other, rather than turning on the U.S. So U.S. interest has always been in controlling Iran's oil (less for direct access, which was never a real necessity or real problem, than for control of pricing and supply, and to be able to act as guarantor of access for Washington's allies and now competitors such as China and India) and suppressing its regional influence." Iran arrests fifteen UK sailors after they had "inspected" an Iranian cargo ship. The news is reported in the UK without mention of the Iranian diplomats being held by the USA and without mention of Somalis being flown between countries and questioned by UK and USA officials. When released the captives are allowed to sell their stories to newspapers, something not normally allowed to UK military personnel. News items in the USA and UK continue to attack Iran for enriching Uranium while ignoring a story that Russia has begun building floating nuclear power stations for export to energy-hungry developing countries. The USA leads a campaign to have the United Nations impose sanctions on Iran which is abiding ny the terms of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) that it has signed. Iran also allows inspections of its facilities. This is in contrast with the treatment given to allies of the USA: * In 2000, South Korea enriched 200 mg of Uranium to 77% (almost weapons grade), but was not referred to the United Nations. * India has refused to sign the NPT or allow inspections. In addition it has developed nuclear bombs which it has tested. India receives nuclear assistance from the USA - a violation of the NPT. Under pressure from the USA, India has voted to refer Iran to the United Nations as a violator of the NPT. * Pakistan secretely developed nuclear weapons and has not signed the NPT - it is supported by the USA as an ally. * Israel (a close ally of the USA) has built hundreds of nuclear weapons in secret. In addition, it regularly ignores United Nations resolutions and has not signed the NPT. None of its nuclear plants is open to inspection. * The USA is itself the worst violator of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. It remains the only country ever to have used nuclear weapons (twice) and refuses to reduce its nuclear arsenal. Its continuing development of new generations of nuclear weapons and warheads for threatened use against non-nuclear nations is a gross violation of the NPT. In addition, the USA has deployed hundreds of nuclear weapons all around the world (often in countries run by non-elected but USA-supported regimes) again in violation of the NPT. The USA has been pressurising the International Atomic Energy Agency to refer Iran to the United Nstions. In one example, David Mulford, the USA Ambassador to India, threatened that country with an end to its nuclear assistance (itself a violation of the NPT) if it failed to vote against Iran (a non-violator of the NPT). This was admitted by Stephen Rademaker, the former USA Assistant Secretary for International Security and Non-proliferation. If so, it makes the referral illegitimate. The USA continues to violate the United Nations Charter of self determination by running secret operations in Iran to raise ethnic unrest to distabilise the country. Spy planes regularly violate the country's sovereignty (Seymour Hersh, New Yorker, 17th April 2006). ---- Yes, I believe to some extent about China being a much greater Danger at the time as it's portrayed in this book, but then again, China is not my specialty, so I am no one to say. Anyone familiar with the definition of Terrorism can tell that Terrorism can also be sponsored by the government: to use fear as a weapon of persuasion and submission of it citizens.
There was a time in the Soviet communist era where the Bolshevik, who also controlled all of the media, had nothing to publish but lies in order to keep people in line and supportive of the government. At some point, people started printing at home or work their own news using sources from outside the Soviet Union. These where passed on from person to person until they where unintelligible and falling apart. Even important figures relied on them to stay informed. Today we have the Internet. Now, Just like the propaganda back then, this book is mostly a work of fiction intending to scare the public with its paranoid and deceiving ideas wrapped in half-truths into supporting this government's failed strategies. *Anyone who read the actual transcripts of the Iranian president's message knows that what was said in the news about him was mistranslated on purpose to further the government's agenda: The President of Iran never said anything about destroying any country He said that just like the Soviet Union, the regime occupying Jerusalem will vanish. *Another example is the Bin Laden messages. He never claimed responsibility for the attacks of 9/11. The person in the other video who claimed responsibility was an obvious impostor. *And last, the reason why United States is hated so much around the world (and not just by Arabs) is because of it's support for Israel. Yes, there is a good reason why Israel is the most hated country in the world, and everyone should know why. And continuous support from the USA has made the USA the second or third most hated country in the world according to most polls. Even the original and real Bin Laden said it. Any modern book on the Middle east or terrorism that fails to mention any of this is pure propaganda. That's exactly where this book belongs. Don't waste your money on this propaganda. Go to youtube and watch "peace, propaganda and the promised land", look up on youtube "CFR / NAU & 2008 Presidential Candidates" Google "STRANGER THAN FICTION AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION OF 9-11 AND THE WAR ON TERRORISM" Or buy the book "Stranger than Fiction" by Albert Pastore. ADDED ON AUGUST 2 2007at 7:20 pm Anyone claiming in a book that the Iranian president called for the destruction of Israel should be regarded as propaganda and a huge lie; This book is such that case. So what did Ahmadinejad actually say? To quote his exact words in farsi: "Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad." That passage will mean nothing to most people, but one word might ring a bell: rezhim-e. It is the word "Regime", pronounced just like the English word with an extra "eh" sound at the end. Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase "rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods" (regime occupying Jerusalem). So this raises the question.. what exactly did he want "wiped from the map"? The answer is: nothing. That's because the word "map" was never used. The Persian word for map, "nagsheh", is not contained anywhere in his original farsi quote, or, for that matter, anywhere in his entire speech. Nor was the western phrase "wipe out" ever said. Yet we are led to believe that Iran's President threatened to "wipe Israel off the map", despite never having uttered the words "map", "wipe out" or even "Israel". THE PROOF: The full quote translated directly to English: "The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time". Word by word translation: Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from). In another interview, he said the forces occupying Jerusalem will vanish like the Soviet Union did. Do your research, and start discerning between what's true and what's a lie. I don't sponsor lies. Furthermore, this book doesn't mention anything about the British/USA coup against the country in the 1950's, following the country's nationalization of their oil fields, which the British Oligarchs didn't like. Iran was a prosperous democracy then, and the United states and Britain established an extremely violent dictatorship so they could privatize and steal their oil. This went on for many years, until they revolted and took their country back. Today's Iran is a result of that fatal USA/UK intervention there, and still today they have done no harm to the USA: instead, it is the USA and it's allies who plot against Iran once more for the same reasons. Of course, the anti-arab, pro-Israel owned and controlled media in USA won't say the truth as it works against their goals. Remember there is no legislation requiring the media to be fair and balanced either. Look up Mohammad Mossadegh, visit the official website. go to Norman Finkelstein 's website to learn about Israel. Jed Babbin knows, and shares with his readers, the truth about the enemies of western civilization. These are their words.
If you ever wondered about the real intent of our enemies, find out in this book. It ought to scare you. My five star rating is for the content. This book is not about opinions, it is about facts. Now if we can just get our politicians to read this! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-06 13:15:53 EST)

Over the last several years books like Babbin's have been popping up like cousins at a lottery winner's home. The message is the same with most of them:
"America stands alone in a global struggle for freedom and 'Judeo-Christian' civilization (whatever that means) against the forces of evil Islamo-fascism (again, whatever that means)!" There is much truth in the sentiments of that statement, but there is also much fear-mongering. The end result of such a deluge of books like these leaves most people, unfortunately, susceptible to cynicism and wary of the motivations (and funding) of whoever writes them. Jed Babbin's book is different. Babbin's book concentrates on the writings and transcripts of a host of folks whose opinions of the United States runs from mild disdain to passionate hatred. What should be most appreciated about IN The WORDS Of OUR ENEMIES is that --unlike someone such as Mark Steyn, for example-- Babbin doesn't merely harp on Islamist fanaticism. There are chapters devoted to the Russians, Latin Americans, Koreans and Chinese. Babbin's reporting on the anti-Americanism of the Chinese is really what won me over in the end. He is one of the few right-wing commentators out there who has the foresight and guts to call the Chinese what they truly are: A people and nation who hold little if any appreciation for America, its people, or culture. He makes it quite clear that China is an expansionist rival for political and economic dominance, a nation which will be the cause of many of our problems in the near future. As someone who feels that the true threat to our way of life is China, I appreciate his position on this matter. Whether you are of the Left or Right, or any shade in between, this is a book worth reading. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-21 04:11:27 EST)

This chilling book simply presents English translations of what the Islamofacists (or Jihadists, or whatever you want to call them) are saying to each other and what they are preaching to their people. It is quite different than much of what they say to us when they speak in English. True, there are some of the extremists who are quite forthright about their desire to bring about the collapse of America, Britain, and Israel, but rarely will you hear the kind of plain speaking one can read in these pages.
The anti-Americanism is deep and profound as is the anti-Jewish sentiment. Some say that they don't hate Christians and Jews because they are the people of the Book. Well, what is said here certainly raises some questions about that hyperbole. They cannot both be true and I think one can trust what they say at home more than what they say to us. This also raises questions about our own media and why we rarely get these hate filled words reported to us more regularly and more honestly. Are our media trying to coddle us into their preferred point of view? Rather, shouldn't they report the news and views from around the world and let us decide what to think about what is being said to and about us? However, the Jihadists only occupy the first seven chapters. China, Putin's Russia, North Korea, Fidel Castro, and Hugo Chavez each get their own chapters. Again, their words for home consumption are much more frank about their intentions than we usually get in our own newspapers and television news. Get this book, read it, and then talk about it with your friends. Once you are aware of this material, you will view the news coverage you watch and read somewhat differently. Jed Babbin also provides good web sources such as MEMRI that provide material from the Jihadist sites and often provide us with English translations. Reading Jed Babbin's book is like running a video recorder in fast motion past all of the terrorist evil of recent history. It left me drained, but better for it. "In the Words of Our Enemies" is truly a masterful compilation of the twisted logic of tyrants, ideologies and belief systems that aim to destroy us and our culture of freedom and liberty. From the jihadists of the Middle East, to Venezuela's Chavez, and the dangerous aspirations of China, Russia, and North Korea, it is clear that our fate, our duty, is the constant struggle against evil. Jed's proposition is simple: we must wake up and take these enemies of freedom seriously and at face value. We must stop interpreting their acts through our values. Evil doesn't work that way. It is time to arise from our slumber and fight for what we hold dear! It will be our eternal shame if we fail.

Mr. Babbin has given us another literary gift - a blueprint for what all Americans who care about safety and security must know for our long-term survival - understanding and carefully studing our adversaries. Trust me, the bad guys and our enemies know more about us than we do. So, while the elites in our country continue to support living in a fantasy land the enemies have crossed the borders, broken into our computer systems, and are killing us economically. Read Jed Babbin's book if you care about the roof over your head, being taken seriously as a woman, and appreciate all the gifts this great nation has to offer.

This book provides a valuable insight into people whose every waking moment is dedicated to the destruction of America and the American way of life, and its value comes from the fact that it is unfiltered. What you get in this book is from the mouths of those who said it. You can choose to ignore this book but you do so at your and our peril. In this book Mr. Babbin is telling us what our enemies are plotting against us by writing down what they have said--not what he says they said. All too often warnings of threats are not heeded because the source was biased or dubious. Here the sources are unimpeachable, which makes this a must read.

This book is a must read for those wanting to understand our enemies, their goals and the means they are willing to employ to achieve them. From South American dictators to China and the Middle East, this is the first book I have read that lets our enemies speak for themselves, and what they have to say should be a wake up call for all Americans. Rather than listen to the rants of the left or the right, listen to our enemies, they are clear, consise and dedicated in their cause of killing the American way of life. A great read all around.

"Neo-Cons" just don't get it. You would have thought they learned something from the debacle in Iraq. But sadly, no. This is more saber- rattling from another American who doesn't try to understand why "they hate us": and, no it's not as simple as "they hate our freedoms."
This is not a work of critical (thinking) discourse or sound policy judgment, rather it is yet another in a long list of books that appeal to the lowest-common denominator in the United States: the ignorant, scared and mentally vacant masses who rallied around an illegal war (Iraq) and now are paying the price for their folly. Fear of the "Other" has a rich, ignoble history in the US. We need to understand our "enemies' in a socio-economic and historic context. This book--pap, really--takes snippets and places them out of context so that we can ratchet up the pretext for dropping a nuclear bomb on Iran, N. Korea or Venezuela. We need more understanding and less vitriolic finger-pointing. This book does little to add to sound policy decisions. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-11 12:24:47 EST)
