| Beyond Tuesday Morning: Sequel to the Bestselling One Tuesday Morning | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
In this sequel to the best-selling One Tuesday Morning, to widow Jamie Bryan it is still September 12, 2001. What will move her from living in the past to living the life God has given her today?

It is an awesome book. I stumbled on to Karen Kingsbury kind of accidentally and it was one of the best things I have ever done. She is an excellent writer. This book must be read after One Tuesday Morning.

By: Jeffrey W. Bennett author of the Christian Novel "Under the Lontar Palm".
What can I say, I love a great story that has a great ending. Okay, for a guy, this story provides great role models. Karen Kingsbury demonstrate the great things that can happen when men take the lead to keep Christ in the forefront of their families. We all can benefit from heroes and we never know where we will find them. I'd say they can be found inside the pages of Beyond Tuesday Morning within the characters of Clay, Eric and Jake. I fell in love with the characters and story of One Tuesday Morning and I was completely thrilled to find out that Karen Kingsbury was writing a sequel. I tried not to hype myself up about it to much because sequels are never as good as the originals, however I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Beyond Tuesday Morning was also a very good and touching story. Even though I have read One Tuesday Morning ummm...4? times now, I have read Beyond Tuesday Morning twice and I can't wait for a possible 3rd installment in the series!

It was a neat idea, and could have made for a great story in the hands of a good writer. Mrs. Kingsbury writes at a middle-school level. I am an adult, but that is not why I did not enjoy her book, for I love books for all ages if they are written well. Some of the most beloved stories are written for children. Mrs. K's writing style shows no creativity--I could not tell her style (as she has not one) apart from the myriad of other female Christian writers. The characters are likeable and real, but bland. Most Christian fiction makes the mistake of assuming just because someone has been saved, they read and pray and think about God ALL the time, and this just isn't true. Of course, one could say, well, those people weren't really saved after all, they didn't mean it at the time they prayed the sinner's prayer, but some people just aren't the religious type--it's just not their personality.

After reading ONE TUESDAY MORNING, I was glad to see that Ms. Kingsley had finished the story with a sequel. She did a great job and I would highly recommend both books as Kingsley is one of the better Christian writers out there. I only had one question and it bothers me but not enough to give the book 4 stars. I find it very hard to believe that Clay, during his first tour of St. Paul's, wouldn't have mentioned to Jamie that his brother had been in the World Trade Center at the time of the attacks. It's a small thing but his silence doesn't seem believeable. Still, the story would have come to a grinding halt if he did, so there you go.

I have read 5 of Kingsbury's books now and I think I will eventually read them all. This book picks up three years after One Tuesday Morning with all of the same principal characters. As in the first book, there is an excitement in knowing something the characters don't, and you just can't wait to see when and how they will find out. Though the "secret" isn't quite as dramatic this time around, it's still an interesting process. I loved seeing how Eric's time with Jamie and Sierra left such a different impression on all of their lives. Jamie and Eric remembered it very differently and Sierra has hardly any recollection at all. I love the way Kingsbury thoroughly involves you with seperate stories before she ties them together, it feels like you really know the characters that way. Overall I recommend the book, though I doubt it would be as good without having read One Tuesday Morning first.

I was hesitant to start this book as I wasn't sure a sequel could live up to the first story. But Ms. Kingsbury managed to bring every character through 3 years of grief and pick up from there. What insight on her part! I love the theme of "Choose Life"; we can all learn from that at some point in our lives. Just three questions - What happened to Sierra's grandpa? Wouldn't Jamie have turned to him when making such important discoveries and decisions? Wouldn't she have included him in Sierra's life?

BEYOND TUESDAY MORNING brings back the pain of 9-11, but it does more, it helps us heal. Another solid story from Kingsbury that leaves the reader emotionally drained, but firmly trusting in God's sovereignty and grace.

This book is about healing and moving on past what happened on 9-11. This book is about Jamie, struggling with just that, as she gets involved with two men. She is constantly struggling with leaving the memories of Jake behind and moving on.
The research on what happened on 9-11 was excellent. I thought that Kingsbury did a wonderful job, capturing the depth of people's pain after what happened to our Twin Towers. I loved how she had Jamie do volunteer work, helping people who lost loved ones in 9-11. As usual, Kingsbury's books rock! I look forward to reading more from her. I read One Tuesday Morning and loved it. Beyond Tuesday Morning was just as good and I hope for another sequel one day. No reader has ever touched me or brought me close to a book like Karen can. She is my favorite author.
