Yet another great installment to the the Percy Jackson series.Okay,it is a little weaker then the other two,but it still keeps all the heart from the rest of the series.
With new additions to this band of friends,such as Thalia and Zoe Nightshade,this will still keep you reading.
Now, instead of the team setting out to retrieve a lightning bolt or save a goat,they have to save their friend Annabeth from the clutches of old enemys.
Even a new enemy comes along.

THE TITAN'S CURSE is the third installment of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. In this book, Percy receives a call from Grover, his satyr friend; two half-bloods have been discovered. Percy, Annabeth, Thalia, and Grover go searching for them, but the mysterious vice principal guards the children at all times. Soon after they are attacked by a manticore, but the Hunters make a surprise appearance. Soon the manticore runs taking Annabeth with him. Artemis, the leader of the Hunters, sets off to track him, while Zoë, second in command of the hunters, and the rest of the Hunters go back to Camp Half-Blood.

Percy and Zoë have bad visions about Annabeth and Artemis. So Zoë, Bianca, the new member of the Hunters, Thalia, and Grover set out on a mission to find out what happened. And against Chiron's orders Percy follows them. But many hardships unfold and one of them dies. And they are being followed by Luke and someone that goes by the name the General. They keep finding more mysterious people and animals along there way and Percy learn more about The Great Stirring and about the Titans.

With 2 boys (ages 9 and 11), 3 big dogs, 2 geckos and a husband, there is usually a LOT of activity in my house. However, since my son discovered this series, things have gotten MUCH quieter! (If only I could teach my dogs to read!)

This series has captured my son's interest and imagination unlike any other fiction series with the exception of the Magic Treehouse books. He is an 11-year old and despite being considered AG in reading skills, he would rather eat liver than read novels. My son's fifth grade teacher got him interested in the first book. After that, he had to have the whole set. He read all four books in about 1.5 weeks time -- usually reading over 100 pages a day -- even on school nights.

He thought this book was the best though the ending definitely leaves you hanging -- and waiting for Book 5.

The things that he likes best about the series:

1. Percy is a regular kid just like him who has his struggles in school.
2. He loves the Greek Mythology tie-ins
3. He loves the writing style and humor of the author
4. The stories don't take place in ancient times -- rather uses ancient stories in modern times.

Now my problem is what to get him reading next. He isn't interested in Harry Potter or most of the other popular fantasy collections. If any one has a suggestion on other series with the above characteristics, please let me know -- I would be eternally grateful!

This book is one in a series. I personally did not read the book, however, my son was not able to put the book down once he started reading.

I've read 1, 2 and now 3 and all are excellant. I can't wait to read the next book.

Excellent book with great weaving of mythological figures into the story. The whole series is fantastic and just as good if not better than Harry Potter.

In the third book of the hilarious and reflective series updating (yet staying delightfully true to) Greek mythology and hero tales, our hero, Percy Jackson, must deal with his greatest challenge to date: women. After Percy's friend (who is becoming more than that to him) Annabeth falls in battle with a manticore/vice principal, he must team up with heart-broken and recently brought-to-life Thalia and a gaggle of Artemis' Hunters. Added into the mix is a mysterious brother and sister Half-Blood that need to be brought to the camp. In standard hero fashion, Percy soon finds himself on a quest to save both Annabeth and the goddess Artemis from the Titan's Curse. As is standard in the series, the heroes must deal with various beasties from mythology, but also more significantly, they must deal with their ever-growing divine family, particularly their distant and mighty godly parents. Most of all, Percy discovers the dark side of being a hero, particularly a male hero, and his relationship with women: from his friend Thalia who is heart broken over Luke's betrayal, to Annabeth who seems more interested in redeeming Luke than hooking up with Percy, to his mother who has a new guy, to the goddess Aphrodite that finds him and his quest adorable, to Zoë who was once betrayed and used by a famous male hero. It's a very refreshing message for a series about Greek mythology: a commentary on the sexism of that mythology. Percy is growing up and coming to terms with his destiny. The book wonderfully captures to voice of a teenage boy while creating a great tale of mystery and monsters (though it was too action-heavy for my tastes). Full of delicious Greek mythology jokes for us Greek Geeks, and also true to the spirit, philosophy, magic, and metaphor of the original stories. One complaint: the paperback printings of this series are pretty terrible. The pages barely turn, the book barely opens, and after one reading (by an adult taking care of it), the binding it broken. But the book's contents are fantastic! Grade: A

I bought the first 3 books of the series for my 10-year old son because it was recommended by friends. My son is not an avid reader and this was the first time he was absorbed by a book.

Of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, this is my favorite book. I couldn't put it down. And I'm 40! I have talked about this book with kids from 10 to 18 and adults of all ages - everyone I've talked to has loved it. The series is interesting and funny, every chapter has excitement, and you really feel connected to the characters. I highly recommend this series and especially this book.

I started reading this series to my son (going into 4th grade). He would not start reading the series himself because "the type was too small". By the time I got to this book (book 3 in the series), he was so interested in the characters and plot that he finished the book and read the entire 4th book by himself. The greek names are a challenge - I wish there was a pronounciation key at the back.

I love the Greek Mythology It's a great change from fairy stories. Its a different kind of magic. I have read all the books in this series except the 4th book I am still getting to that one. I love how the main character is not Hercules. Percy Jackson is a new kind of Hero.

Both my 8 year old and 11 year old boys love this series. There is just the right amount of action to keep them hooked. Knowledge of mythology helps but is not necessary to enjoy these books.

This is book 3 in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. The Percy Jackson & Olympians series keep getting better with each book. Young readers begin to understand what the Fates have in store for their young hero Percy Jackson. More details about Chiron's prophecy are revealed and one of the Big Three has to make a choice many readers wouldn't expect. This series is one Harry Potter fans shouldn't miss and one reluctant readers won't want to put down!

This series was read by my 5th grader who didn't know who the greek heros were. He read it in less than a week and completed the 4 book series in a month. It encouraged him to go on to read other books on mythology. We hope Rick Riordan continues the series! He made education fun for my boy.

now we are back on track! this is alot better than the last attempt. this has alot more action and shines light on new characters and events. also, about the gods that DID break the vow (hades) this is the best book in the series so far. CHECK IT OUT!

My 13 year old son had to read this book for a school report. As an option for extra credit, I read it also and completed a parent's book report for the teacher. This book was fantastic. I was surprised I enjoyed it so much. But, I tend to enjoy books on mythology.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a wonderful series that opens up to readers the greek mythology and vocabulary in a fun and exciting way. The twists and turns in the story keep it exciting, and make it enjoyableall the way to the end. The interplay between Percy and Zoe Naghtshade throughout the story show how different Percy is from the typical Greek Hero.

The Titan's Curse is about a teenage boy and his 4 friends going to Sanfrancisco to rescue one of their other friends and the Goddess of the hunt, Artemis. But they soon find themselves battling skeleton warriors and getting some help from angel statues made of celestial bronze. Also they find a harmless baby cow serpent that will determine the future of Olympus.

My favorite part of the book is when Percy, Zoë, Thalia and Grover are deciding what to do with Bessie the cow serpent. Grover, (a satyr), decides to travel with Bessie back to Camp Half-Blood. When Thalia, Zoë and Percy go across the Golden Gate Bridge and up the mountain to save Annabeth and the Goddess, Artemis. When Annabeth's dad shooting the monsters down with celestial bronze bullets from a fighter plane saves them.

This is a really exciting book full of surprises. This book will make you want to keep reading no matter what part you're at. Its full of Greek and Roman mythology. If you like Greek and roman mythology you should read the whole series of books about Percy and his friends. If you don't, read the book anyway, you'll start to like it.

The Percy Jackson series has brought Greek Mythology to our home. Both my teens and I have enjoyed the first two books and the third was no exception. Great series!

I think this may be the best book ever. In fact, that IS the best book ever. I'm trying to encourage the author to write a fifth book for the Percy Jackson series. I don't normally read for fun but since I started reading "Lightning Thief", it encouraged me to read the next three books. I just finished The "Titans Curse" and now I'm reading "The Battle of the Labyrinth" and so far it's great and I know I'll love it.

My 12yr old son has always been an extremely advanced reader...it is very hard to find books that interest him and are not TOO mature for him. He has re-read every book he have ever liked over and over. It seems at some point books become aimed at either adults or at teenage girls (unless you count the "athletic" themed books - which are not his cup of tea). He says he just not interested in reading about a girl and her horse (or her crush - whatever the case may be). Anyway, he loves this series. I'm not crazy about the "gods" and the mythology theme, but it has opened up a lot of talking points for us about our beliefs.

Its a great book and definitely worth you money. If you have not read the first two (if you haven't don't read this review!) then you should read those as well but this is definitely the most fast paced book in the series. Percy is a "special" child growing up in New York. Confused about his dad having a gambling drunkard Italian as a father named Gabe and a kind, encouraging mother. When on a school trip his teacher becomes a harpie and attempts to kill him. However when he tells how he defeated his teacher Ms. Dodge, everyone gives him a confused look seemingly never hearing the name. He starts to believe he has just become completely insane , but when he hears his Latin teacher and his best friend speaking about him and hearing the name again he is convinced it was not an illusion and is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. Anyway you have to read the first book to find out all that and I won't give any of the second so definitely if you have read the other two you don't even need to read this review.

Readers familiar with Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series are in for another fun-filled romp in THE TITAN'S CURSE. The author has a five-book run planned for Percy and his companions, and then a return visit in a later series, which his young fans will clamor for.

If you haven't read either of the two previous books, I'd warn you to stay away from this review because you're going to find out things that are better discovered through your own reading.

In THE LIGHTNING THIEF, twelve year old Percy Jackson found out he was the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. My son and I read YA books together all the time, and these are his favorites. What draws him in the most - and I mean HOURS at a time, till my voice gives out on me - are Percy's cool water powers and the immense tapestry of Greek mythology that Riordan weaves in so well.

My son doesn't know it, but he's basically getting a classical education reading these novels with me. He finds the stories of the gods and goddesses, all their petty problems and efforts to get revenge on each other, wonderfully fascinating. He was so enthralled by the first book that I had to buy him a book on Greek mythology, which he read on his own just to get more background on the mythical characters in the pages.

You don't have to brush up on your Greek mythology, or even tell all the stories to your kids. Riordan does a masterful job of making those ancient tales of gods and goddesses come alive in his stories, and giving you all the background material you need. But don't be surprised if your child starts prowling the library shelves in search of more information.

THE TITAN'S CURSE starts off with an almost 007 feel that I really liked. Riordan usually plunks Percy down in the middle of action, but the search for two new half-bloods (sons and daughters of gods who don't know they are such) captivated my son and me immediately. And things, of course, go really badly for Percy and his friends.

Still, despite all the close calls, my son and I were laughing out loud at Percy's adventures. Grover, the young satyr that's his friends, ended up getting some of the best parts, but the chapter where Percy ends up riding the mythical pig was an absolute hoot.

Blackjack, Percy's Pegasus buddy, puts in an appearance in this book as well, and absolutely steals the show for a while. "God alert," Blackjack warns. "It's the wine dude!" Of course, he's referring to Dionysus, the Greek god that's currently serving punishment as head of Camp Half-Blood. In fact, Mr. D actually steps into the thick of things more forcefully in this volume. But the line, typical pre-teen terminology, had my son and I cracking each other up for days as we kept repeating it.

In every book in the series, there's always a quest. In the first book, Percy had to find the thief that took Zeus's mystical lightning bolt. In the second, Percy had to save Grover. But in the third book, Percy has to save his best bud, Annabeth, with whom he's becoming even more enamored. This quest sends Percy and his friends zooming across the United States again, and reveals even more Greek mythological geography that's been relocated to this continent.

Athena is back on hand, as well as Artemis and Apollo. Luke's efforts to resurrect Kronos as still in play, and it looks bad for our heroes. There's a prophecy (told by the Oracle in a way that is extremely humorous) that foretells the death of one of the heroes on the quest.

Riordan's pacing is fabulous. There's never a dull moment in one of these books. Things - and threats - just keep happening at a mile-a-minute. This book truly felt like trying to stay on top of an avalanche as we hurtled to the ending. And it only left us hungry for Book Four: THE BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH.
