I can't believe how bad this book was. The first 3 Maximum Ride books were exciting and made me wanting more. Unfortunately, I purchased book 4 and now I wish this was just a trilogy. Very disappointing.

I work in a middle-school library and I have exuberantly recommended the Max Ride series to our students. I will NOT recommend Final Warning. If I wanted an environmental message, I would have rented "Happy Feet". Patterson's obvious priority was sending an environment message rather than continuing the high energy, fast-paced, riotously sarcasm-filled STORY of the first 3 books. All of these attributes were non-existent in Final Warning. Found myself skipping sections and feeling disappointed throughout the book. Like I said, stop while you're happy, don't read beyond the 3rd book.

it wasnt as satisfying as i thought it would be. the book was short and the plot wasnt that great. the villain doesnt really exist until for about 30 to 40 pages. but still the overall book was good and it was like a mini version of the books. it was still worth reading. heads up for water wings on march 2009.

I was surprised to learn that James Patterson had come out with another chapter of the Maximum Ride series, but after reading it I was certainly not disappointed. Patterson keeps many things consistent and unchanged. The flock is still the same old flock, and Max is still the same old Max. I found myself busting up laughing at all of her witty and sarcastic comments, which I had always found hilarious in the previous Maximum Ride novels. And I continued to love her defiant, stubborn, determined nature. Max still refuses to take anything lying down at the hands of adults who don't understand anything about her or the flock and want to just coop them up and study them. Patterson also kept my interest hooked by keeping up the hunt for Max and the flock, this time with the Uber-Director and Gozen. However the action isn't as strong as in the other Maximum Ride novels and doesn't make a real strong appearance in this one until the end. Patterson also takes a very clear environmental stance, which I don't care for so much. The Max and Fang relationship remains unnecessarily complicated on Max's end, which does aggravate me some, but seeing as they are both somewhere around fourteen I can understand this to a certain extent-teenagers in general tend to make relationships unnecessarily over-complicated. However, I think that all of the drawbacks that there are to The Final Warning are minor and do not take away from the novel as a whole. Overall I found it to be an exciting, entertaining, and enjoyable read.

I like this, even though I will admit it was a bit shorter than us (true fans of this series) would like it to have been. I still think it would worth the money and a good addition to the Maximum Ride series. ^__~

I am an avid fan of the Maximum Ride books. I loved the other books of the series, but I couldn't stand this one.

This book was one of the few books I wish I'd never bought. It wasn't exciting at all -- it lacked plot and action. I was expecting a can't-put-it-down action-packed book, like in The Angel Experiment. All I got, however, was global warming propaganda.

The plot was basically nonexistant. The flock has survived Itex and the Director. So now what do they do? After a semi-interesting introduction in Washington DC, they take a random trip to Antarctica. They're traveling with scientists to study global warming. Why? Dr. Martinez thinks it's a good idea. Meanwhile, the new villian, The Uber-Directer (what kind of name is that, seriously?!), is gearing up to try and capture the flock. The flock have fun in Antarctica, learning about global warming (and, of course, passing every bit of global warming information to the reader), and having little pointless adventures.

Eventually, they are caputured and the climax of the novel occurs. I was expecting a carefully planned out action climax. Instead, it was just so boring! The Uber-Director's "evil" plot was just so stupid and unexciting. And then the flock easily escapes without a scratch.

The thing that bothered me most about the book, however, was the propaganda (at least that's how I thought of it). The book is full of global warming information and statistics. Max submits easily to the idea of global warming and embraces it wholeheartedly. She then spends the end of the book lecturing the reader about global warming and its harmful effects. I wouldn't have minded a little bit about global warming, but it just felt like the whole book was simply written to spread the idea, not to share Max's adventures with the world. This really dissapointed me. I just feel like I picked up the book to enjoy a good novel, not to read a bunch of propaganda.

So, to conclude my rather lengthy review? I wouldn't reccommend this book. If you're a fan of Max Ride, stop at book 3 so you can still remember the series fondly. This book had virtually no plot. There wasn't really much character development. In my humble opinion, it simply wasn't worth reading.

If you have read the 3 other Maximum Ride books then you will like this one just as much as the previous 3. It's a great read and he puts a deeper moral lesson in it as well. I'd recommend this book to anyone.

I purchased this book, for my Granddaughter. She has the series, and has enjoyed each one. Including this novel.

I was very disappointed in this book because of the political "Global Warming" speech Max made at the end of the book.
I read for entertainment and when I want to read political opinions I will buy political references.

My daughter read this piece of trash and said it had all of the liberal talking points about global warming, but no hard facts to back anything up. Just a bunch of BS propaganda written by another misguided Lib.

I loved all the Maximum Ride books. This one was a little contrived, more of a lesson on global warming with a short, wierd battle at the end. It is a credit to Patterson that he has developed such great characters, that I still loved to read about them.

The book was to be delivered between 7/30 and 8/15. It is now 8/27 and I have not received the book. I have written to the seller on 8/25 and have not recieved a response. It guess it helps to read the reviews BEFORE you purchase from a seller. I never would have used this seller if I read the reviews. My son needs to read the book BEFORE school starts (which is 9/4) so I guess that is not going to happen. I thought I would get it in time for vacation and he could read it while on vacation. Oh well I am now going to request my money back!!

Let me start off by saying I am not a huge critic. I enjoy most books I pick up and loved the other Maximum Ride books. This book however was simply a waste of my time. I am just going to try to forget it exists. After creating a wonderful group of characters the author betrays them in this dry, disjointed, and preachy novel. If James Patterson wanted to save the environment he would have saved the paper this book is written on and not published it at all. Frankly, I am a little angry that this made it through the publisher at all. Many children were looking forward to this book and I am sure they were let down. Stop reading at the previous book or you will be dissapointed. Even though it was short I could barely make it through. Horrible Horrible horrible.

This is the fourth book in the unbelievable Maximum Ride triligy. You might find this book quite different from its prequel. This book is mostly based on the good vs. evil side of the story. Most of the flock now know almost everything about themselves. Now its only about staying alive, and ofcourse, saving the world. I would recommend this book to all age groups from kids to adults. Still I recommend to read the first three books of the series first.

I loved the first three books of the series, though I did think the whole "adults ruin everything" and also the "corporations are evil" thing was unnecessary.I'm a 14 year old girl who reads a LOT. I had heard that this book was preachy beforehand and thought it probably wasn't that bad. Boy, was I wrong! Global warming IS real, but there's nothing we humans can do about it! We didn't create it, and we can't stop it. Anyway...

The plot of the book was a little random, but I would've liked it so much more if Mr. Patterson had simply left out the green eco-junk. I think most of it could've been taken directly out of Al Gore's mouth (and halfway through it started to think Gore DID write it!)
If you're a parent who wants to let their kid read this book, I recommend talking to them about the "global warming" situation either before or after they read it. Because they're sure going to get a truck load of it with The Final Warning. I can only hope the fifth one will be better.

I must say I read the first three books and absolutely loved them. When I picked up this one I thought it was a bit small in size so I was hoping it would cut to the point. Man was I wrong. This whole book was a total cop-out, what a pathetic ending to a great series. This book has almost nothing to do with the story line of the rest of the series. Totally different bad guy(s), no link into the original plot line, and just a really really pathetic way to try to send a message, especially when it has nothing to do with the first three books. James Patterson totally ruined this series, I was actually thinking of picking up some of his other books before I read this, now I'll never read anything of his again. I just hope he was under some serious pressure from his publicists about putting out another book, because this was really really really bad. So disappointing, wish I could have given it less than 1 star.

Maximum Ride is an unforgettable 14-year-old girl with a way-out-of-control, hilariously sarcastic attitude. But who can blame her with everything she has on her shoulders, including a pair of 13-foot wings?

Max spent the first part of her life locked in a cage, undergoing cruel tests and horrid experiments as evil scientists fused bird DNA onto her human genes. But the more she learns, the more she realizes how devastating global warming is and how desperately in danger our planet is.

And speaking of special talents, everybody in the Flock seems to be continually mutating new and beyond wild abilities. Just as Max developed super speed and Angel began to read minds in previous Maximum Ride books, now Iggy, Fang, Gazzy and even Total, the talking dog, develop incredible new skills. But will they be any help when the new evil scientist catches up with them, intent on exploiting the Flock family for money and power?

James Patterson never disappoints in this series, in which fast-paced, non-stop action combines with extraordinary characters to form an amazing adventure. Add in a hilariously sharp wit, an unending imagination and a massive, very real global threat, and readers are rewarded with a winner each and every time. Once again, Patterson delivers the ultra-important message that young people can make a difference in the world, and he conveys it in such a way that will hopefully inspire and motivate children to actually get out there and repair some of the world's hurts. The previous books were very good and entertaining. I and my kids loved them. My kids will not hear this book. It's full of arguable science and questionable facts used to support an anti-global warming agenda complete with political direction straight from Al Gore. It MIGHT be tolerable if it were balanced; but, it isn't. A sad addition to a good series.

I've loved every single Maximum Ride book. I could always count on the fact that they would have good action, witty dialouge, and a great plot. The problem with this one was that most of these elements were missing. The dialouge was still funny as ever, but other parts were a major let down. There wasn't really any action other than one part and there was no fighting. The villian in this book was not interesting to me at all and just seemed doomed to fail. Even with these problems I still thought that it could be a good book and that was because the plot is always great. Not this time. The story didn't have anything to do with the other books. Gone is the quest to take down Itex. Instead they have to stop global warming. Don't get me wrong I think it's agood message to be sending, but not in a kids book. I'm 14 and I tink most kids my age know global warming is bad. The entire book just seemed preachy instead of fun and action packed. I'll say it again I love the Maximum Ride books, but this one was a letdown.

Okay, like the rest of America i was sooo excited for the continuation of the Maximum Ride series, but instead of the action-packed thriller,nonstop read, edge of your seat book i had beed expecting,i got a dinky little 256 book that was one big boring lecture.
Don't get me wrong, i believe in stopping global warning and helping to enviorment too,but the whole time i was reading it ,it felt mocking.
The only real rediming quality about this book was the progress in Max's and Fang's relationship.
Also, one bad book in a great series i can forgive, but i'm wondering is JPs' going for two?
The fith book in the series "Waterwings" is only going to be 272 pgs long, and the theme is "polution".
*Sigh* we can only hope its better than it sounds i suppose...

My daughter,15, and I enjoyed the first three books in the Maximum Ride series. We looked forward to this book with great anticipation. It was a letdown. The first half of the book was disjointed. Who tried to blow them up? Why were they mutating further?
Then the second half of the book shoved Global Warming down our throats! And the line that beef consumption was more to blame than fossil fuels. UGH!
If James Patterson was not a best selling author, and this was not part of a bestselling series, it would never have found a publisher.
I am glad we borrowed this from the library! We won't be buying this one!

First I really like all the other Maximum Ride books. There good. But this one is awful. Every review here about how bad it is is true. My biggest problem with it is, with all that the flock goes through, its all for really nothing. No valid points are made in this book. Patterson lectures about Global Warming, and writes a very weak story, that goes nowhere in the end. What ever you feel about Global Warming. it has nothing to do with why Bird kids were made, or why the keep almost getting killed by these strange and freaky bad guys. Read this book of his only if you want to say that you have read all of Patterson Max Ride books. Other wise wait for the next one and hope its alot better than this one.

James Patterson gives a good read but I would really love for authors that decide to do series to not change in mid stream. The Maximum Ride series is an example that does that. I'm sitting with a copy of "The Final Warning" in my hand that says it's the 4th in the Maximum Ride series and I have a copy of a newly printed version of "The Angel Experiment" that says "The Final Warning" is the 1st title in "The Protector" set. As a librarian, I'd like to sit Mr. Patterson down and have a good talk with him about not reorganizing series.

Max and the flock are back again in another wild adventure. Unknown enemies are still trying to kill and/or capture them to use the flying mutants to gain power, and other influential people want to control them. But lately things have been calmer. Max and the flock join up with a team of scientists in Antarctica studying the effects of global warming. But even from the remotest place on earth, Max and her flock are still targets - because whoever controls the flock controls the world.

I was hesitant to read the fourth book in the Maximum Ride series because of mixed reviews that I read and also because I had thought the story was over after the third book. For me, The Final Warning was pretty disappointing. The plot was just not as exciting as in the previous books and sadly, Max's snarkiness got a bit annoying. I also felt that the rest of the flock wasn't as important an element in this novel as in the previous ones. Everything was too centered on "saving the world" and global warming, which although it is a good cause, it didn't make for a fantastic story. I really thought the series should've ended with Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, the third book, because by the fourth, everything just started to get too repetitive.

Dedicated fans of James Patterson and the Maximum Ride series may want to check out this fourth installment, but I would not recommend it. I think if you stick with the first three, you're all good.

Well I have read all of the other books in the series and absolutely loved them and I couldn't wait to get this one but it was a let down. It wasn't nearly as good as the other books and I really was wishing that something would happen to make it more interesting. I read it in about an hour because to tell you the truth it was kind of boring. I think he should write another book after this one and then end the series with a book five. I mean I want to know what happened at the end when they said they have another mission to go on. It kinda leaves you hanging a little bit. ~ IM DISAPPOINTED.....

Fourth book in the Maximum Ride series.

This book seemed disconnected from the rest of the series.

Max and the flock are back and settled with Ella and her mom. They join an expedition to the arctic where a group of scientists are studying global warming. The focus on global warming could have been both interesting and thought-provoking. However, the theme was overbearing and I felt like I was reading a textbook. Obviously, the issue of global warming is a serious one, but I didn't appreciate getting beaten over the head with it when I was reading a fluffy action book!

It was ok. Just ok. I loved the Maximum Ride series just until the whole Global Warming was introduced. I get it, global warming is bad bad bad. And yes I understand that we can do something about it. But it's been hammered into our heads waaay too much! Please Mr. Patterson! Better next time pleeeease??

Let's get this straight. I Love Fang. Fang Loves Max. I love the romance between them. This book was highly different than the others but I still loved it. The global warming situation devolped me into a Vegatarian, scratch that Vegan. This book was mostly insight on what is going on around us. Which is very important.

Sorry, but you'll be sorely disappointed if you even waste half an hour reading The Final Warning. It's nothing like the other three in the series. I couldn't believe the absence of a serious FLOCK plot or the major lack of character development in this book. Where did the Uber Director come from? Who put the "wire" in the pizza. Ughhh. I'm done with this Ride.

I purchase all of James Patterson's books and this is the first that I felt was weak and does not live up to his past books. I had the feeling that the story was a production of "where can I go with this," rather then a creative story that the author had passion about. When finished I had the feeling that something was missing, which is not typical in Patterson's works.

I've read the entire Maximum Ride series, and each new book in the series has been a progressive disappointment. Yes, I understand the books are written for tweeners and teenagers. Unfortunately, the books are written below that reader's skill level - the books are almost reading like comic books now. For me, this last book felt the most dis-jointed of all: more flying around and hiding, more adults trying to help, and yet we end up (again) in the same place at the end of the book that we did several books ago. Predictable, boring. In past books, I felt the characters had different (very specific) voices - this most-recent addition to the series, not so much. When I read the book, I heard a man acting the parts of the characters (like an audio book), I didn't hear the actual character's voices ringing clear in my head. It was all a bit of a disappointing muddle. I might buy future books in the series at a garage sale or something, but I won't be paying full price for any more Maximum Ride books.

I was really happy when I saw that a fourth one came out. I read through it quick, like always, I enjoyed it and yet it didn't. This book just seemed like a big giant plug for Global Warming awareness. And don't get me wrong, I don't think that that is a bad thing really, I just wish that he had given this book more story to it! I hope he writes more of these, and actually continues on with an actualy story!!

I know a lot of people didn't like this book, but I really don't know why. It was written basically the same, the humor was fantastic (as it usually is), and it had a good message in it: help save the planet. Max's speech in the end was a really good one and it changed my outlook on the enviroment. Some people said the book didn't have enough fight scenes. So freakin' what? Do fight scenes really make a book good or bad? What matters is the quality plot and the author's writing style. And both of those were top notch in the this excellent addition to the awesome Maximum Ride series.

Ok, so I went to the library, like I do every couple of weeks or so, when I spotted James Patterson's FINAL WARNING. I loved the first three books, and was dying to read this one. I had almost bought the book earlier when it first came out, but had decided against it in hopes that maybe in a few months it would still be on the shelves and i could get it then. Boy, am I glad I didn't buy it.
The beginning of the book was promising, and I kicked back and relaxed, excited and content to be reading another great Maximum Ride novel that I was absolutely sure would fill me up and leave me waiting for the next one, or at least give me a promising and glorious conclusion.
What I got was about half a book with Patterson lecturing us wittle readers about Global Warming, which is vewy vewy bad! Seriously, though, I felt as if he had written the whole action packed, awesome series to end it with a lecture about how us humans are destroying the earth, blah, blah blah.
Don't get me wrong, we should take care of the earth and recycle about all that good stuff, but if Patterson wanted to get that out there, he could have just written it somewhere else. Spoiling the whole book, which had the potential to be a very good installment of the Maximum Ride series, with that much ranting about Global Warming was not a good idea. I was hoping throughout the rest of the book from the point where the Flock is in Antartica to the end that Max would remain by her own ideas, instead of going along with the "OHMIGAWSH, Global Warming is gonna KILL US!" theme.
Anyways, I am desperately hoping that after all these reviews, James Patterson will realize that Maximum Ride is not the place to sell his ideas on Global Warming and will bring back the old Maximum Ride ideas with a fifth book.

As usual the characters are still sharp and sassy, with excellent retort. But the book is too preachy of a message on Global Warming, and I'm someone who believes we do need to pay attention and behind on this issue and energy independence. The author IMHO mailed it in on this one. Fans of the series deserved better. Thank goodness I didn't pay full price for the audio book of this one.

If I had I never would have spent the money. Complete propaganda like it should have a forward by Al Gore. Poorly done, as it drags on with speeches right out of the earth summit. Very disappointing!

First 3 books in this series were interesting, and although character driven, had an interesting plot. Patterson simply ran out of story line, before he was finished milking this cow. If the "director" was a good enough villian for 3 novels, he figured "uberdirector" would be good enough for one. How is this for ubber crap (Spoiler Alert) The dog grows wings. Don't take this in any way as slight of the first 3. They were very entertaining. But the story ended after the first 3. Althought he book is dedicated to sending a message about global warming, ironically, the book is a waste of paper. At least I read it on a Kindle.

As an adult over 70 I have enjoyed this series. I was looking forward to another exciting story in the lives of these wonderful children. What I did not expect was a lecture from the viewpoint of the author. The whole book and story was ruined by this tirade from the author. Next time just give us a story. If the whole meaning of this series was just to get his enviromental viewpoint across he did his readers a great injustice.

He used to be a non reader but he plowed through these books in no time and is anxiously waiting for the next book. He loved them!

I was supposed to keep this book for my vacation, but decided I could read a couple of pages to see if it was going to be any good. Well, I closed the book a few hours later. Absolutely fabulous book and a great continuance of the series. I cannot wait for the next one. This is the type of series that has you wondering in between books "I wonder what Max is up to right now?" "Have any of them morphed further?" Get this book, you won't regret it!

There is a whole lot of disagreement about global warming and the cause of it. For those that embrace it, it has become a religion. If I want to read about someone's religion I expect them to put it out front and not hide it in a novel geared toward young adults. Patterson's last few chapters in "Final Warning" made it clear that the purpose of this book was to push the fear of global warming into the hearts and minds of young people. It also carried with it the usual "corporations are evil" message that goes along with the theory that man is at the center of climate change.... and it is an unproven theory.

I have always enjoyed Patterson's novels but have lost all respect for him. It will be a long time, if ever, that I pick up another of his books.

The Final Warning, by James Patterson, is the fourth book in the Maximum Ride series. As I recall, this series was supposed to be a trilogy, but after the last book, Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, it was clear that Patterson could still add to the story line. While this book answers more of the lingering questions, there are still some that require more investigation, like "Who is the Voice?" and "Why are the kids mutating new powers?"

The book begins with The Flock under attack from the Uber-Director and his new army while a short chapter brings the new readers up to speed. Following those chapters, The Flock, under the direction of Maximum Ride, are invited to Washington where they are presented with an offer of safety and schooling (while the oldest in The Flock is about 14, none of them have had any structured schooling). A little issue with an assassination attempt forces The Flock to seek shelter elsewhere and they end up in Antarctica. This is where The Flock discovers how they are to "save the world." But while they are busy with the scientists in Antarctica, the Uber-Director is plotting their demise. It all comes to a head in Florida during a hurricane.

This installment does not have as much adventure as the previous Maximum Ride novels. Most of the novel deals with Antarctica and the work that The Flock engages in on the ice. There are some exciting scenes, but they are much less than in the earlier novels. I have to believe that most teens that will read this book are aware of global warming. Patterson, through The Flock, in general, and Maximum Ride in particular, really beats that theme over the readers' head. At first, I thought that it was nice that Patterson added this to the novel, but after driving the point home time after time, it got to be very annoying. The final scenes, with the Uber-Director, seemed too easily wrapped up, especially for a character that was presented as extremely intelligent. I felt that Patterson did a disservice to the reader and the characters.

We still have unanswered questions, and I expect that Patterson is working on Part 5. Hopefully, that novel will contain more meat. As it is, this book leaves the reader feeling short changed.

It wasn't BAD, but it wasn't GOOD, either. The previous books contained much more complex characters (even though the characters have not changed) and the plot contained much more action and suspense. The bad guys in this one, didn't seem all so bad or interesting. It was more like something you would find in Marvel Comics. I'm disappointed, but I don't think that will stop me from reading the next.

The book condition was as advertised and the delivery was completed sooner than scheduled. They earned a loyal (and happy) customer.

My problem with the story wasn't so much that James Patterson used it as a soapbox for global warming -- after all, it's his book, and he can do what he wants.

The problem, as I see it, is there was NO WAY he started writing this series with a plan to make Max's "saving the world mission" one that had anything to do with this topic.

If you go back and read the series from the beginning, starting with THE ANGEL EXPERIMENT, we all knew that Max and the gang had a special mission, a mission that would save the world. We knew it would be big, and no doubt unbelievable, as most of Mr. Patterson's plot lines are. But if this had been his plan all along, you have to think that there would have been SOME advance warning.

No, what really ticks me off is that it seems as if he decided, with the current state of affairs, to change the whole point of the books at the very last minute, as a way to promote his cause.

THAT'S what makes me angry.

(The only good thing about THE FINAL WARNING? Total's "I prefer canine-American" comment, which made me laugh until I cried.)

... if you must read this book, borrow your library's copy.

Or save your time (and your frustration) and don't read it at all. (And I'm a teacher, so me recommending *not* reading a book is significant.)

I didn't mind the global warming plot. I mind the errors in the storytelling. At least twice an expert says that global warming brings on earthquakes and tsunamis. Global warming is a very real threat to our planet, *but it doesn't cause earthquakes.*

The first three books in this series are a superfast exciting rollercoaster, not long on characters or many other literary devices. This one is the kind of ride at the amusement park that no one likes, not younger kids, not older kids, not adults.

Absolutely trite. I'd only read the third in the series and was so taken and impressed with it that I snatch up the fourth when I saw it in the store without a moment's consideration. Blegh. What a disappointment. Preachy. Condescending. And not just once or twice, but he repeatedly beats you over the head with it. Max's speech at the end was such a let down, too. It did not add anything new to global warming argument, just rehashed the old argument in Max's typical, albeit amusing, sarcastic style. Sorry, I don't buy that some teenager (wings or no wings) is going to speak to Congress and recite some facts and suddenly the country or world or whatever is going to change?
My advice: skip this book, watch An Inconvenient Truth. The latter is better scripted, more informative, and definitely more entertaining.

I love reading James Patterson novels. They are exciting thrillers, adventurous and an amazing new fun book to read.

I'm a grandmother who is a voracious reader. I bought the whole Maximum Ride series, read all of them and passed them on to my grandchildren. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them until this one, "Final Warning". Please, did James Patterson have an extra weekend with nothing to do? And the global warming thing, even if you totally believe we are responsible for it (which I don't) it was so totally uninspiring and a waste of time. I really will tell my grandchildren not to bother. It was really boring and I'm sorry I wasted not only my money but my time as well!
Really, save your money!!

Why did the publishers let this one out. Its terrible. Without a doubt the worst book I have ever read. James come on you are a great writer, Did YOU really write this or get you Kids to write it?
I love your books but this is not like you.
