Brian's Winter

In Hatchet, 13-year-old Brian Robeson learned to survive alone in the Canadian wilderness, armed only with his hatchet. Finally, as millions of readers know, he was rescued at the end of the summer. But what if Brian hadn't been rescued? What if he had been left to face his deadliest enemy--winter?

Gary Paulsen raises the stakes for survival in this riveting and inspiring story as one boy confronts the ultimate test and the ultimate adventure.
In Hatchet, 13-year-old Brian learned to survive alone in the Canadian wilderness, armed with only a hatchet. He was rescued at the end of the summer. Brian's Winter begins where Hatchet might have ended--Brian is not rescued, but must rely on his survival skills to face his deadliest enemy--a northern winter.

Gary Paulsen writes for young adults and teenagers. He got published long after I graduated high school. Anyway, this book is the story of Brian who must survive and endure the hardships of life in the Canadian wilderness. Paulsen is quite detailed in explaining his survival but it gets tedious at times and repetitive. It's a good book for young kids, boys and girls. Brian's story of survival is quite like Castaway for kids but only the winter wilderness of Canada rather than an island in the Pacific. The book is an easy read but I didn't like the parts about Brian killing the animals like rabbits since I'm a rabbit lover as well as moose and others.

In 6th grade i read the book before this and i thought wow that was ok. Then i was on a dry streak and never read a book for a year or two and i saw this book in my closet and remembered i read the one before this one. I beleive this book got me reading again and I suggest you get this book immediately because it draws you in and it makes you want to read more and more. I read this last week and after this i read all the other ones in the next week it was amazing and I hope you find this helpful.

I think Brian's Winter is a five star book because it was very interesting. Brian makes his own snow shoes! He kills a moose with a lance! Also, Brian makes a bow and arrow. See, Brian's Winter is an awesome book. It kept me reading!

Back to the forest... again...

I liked this book, although it was not as good as it's prequel Hatchet. It was not as fast paced. It got a little repetitive after a while though. I didn't enjoy this book as much as others that I've read. It didn't have as much content as hatchet.

A decent alternative sequel to Hatchet. No surprises--if you like the other Brian books, you will like this one too.

Brian's Winter is Gary Paulson's amazing sequel to Hatchet. The setting is in the Canadian Wilderness in present time. It is exciting and suspenseful until the very end. Brian has learned to survive by himself when the weather is nice but winter comes along quickly and he has to learn to adapt to the cold, harsh winter storms. There are many survival skills Brian uses that could really be used. In my opinion Brian's Winter is a 5 star book and should be read by all kids around America.

"Fall came on with a softness, so that Brian didn't realize what was in store- a hard- spined northwoods winter until it was nearly too late." Brian's Winter is the sequel of Hatchet. Now, Brian has to survive the northwoods winter that Canada has to offer. This book is very misleading and it catches you offguard such as when Brian gets attacked by a moose.
I personally like this book because it shows how you could survive in a life or death situation. This book is a medium difficulty for a kind of kid like me. Also, this book is fiction so don't get scared. You could also try some other books by Gary Paulsen such as Hatchet or The River. I would reccomend this book to readers who like action and mystery because this book has these traits.
What will happen to Brian? Will he survive? Read this book to find out.

The setting is before winter in Canada and it`s cold. He is flying over the park and it crashes. All he has to survive with is a hatchet, bow and arrows, a shot gun and a few shot gun shells. He has to try and survive the dangerous winter and really dangerous predators, hunt for food, and try to some how figure out how to get home. While trying to survive he finds a skunk has it for a pet and names it Betty.FInally still in Canada he mets these people and brings him to live with them.
