Time is an important asset. Invest your time in this excelent masterpiece, it will be your first good investment of many.

Two considerations:

Specalutors are not welcome here, this is pure investment for dummies. Aggresive tactics only in a conservative macro-enviroment.

Investment could be very hard if you like, but like all things in life, it is best to keep it simple. Paul's book will be always in your hands when your strategies became too complex, heping advanced investors return to the basics.

This book is fantastic. It covers all the basic fundamentals, provides resources to learn more about every area, and covers every broad aspect of evaluating a company. You learn about company fundamentals, accounting formulas, economic indicators, political signs, trends, and much more. Probably the best beginning book on stock trading I've read, and I have read many.

Not only that, but the author's results speak for themselves. The 1st edition was written in 2005, and he made several predictions, every one of which came true. In the book he mentioned that according to his research silver would be in very high demand in the next few years - then showed the indicators to prove it. Silver then went on to go from $7 to $17 currently, over 30% annual growth. He accurately predicted the internet stock bust in 2001, the housing bust, the rise of silver, the rise of oil, the collapse of financial service companies, and the rise of commodities.

Obviously results alone don't mean anything, but when taken with the strategies he teaches, it's very clear that this guy knows what he's doing.

(Hide Review...)  Exactly what the title implies.

Like it says, it's stock investing for dummies. Not only will you get explanations for key terms that you will encounter, you also will be taught how to look at numbers on a balance sheet, and decode what story the balance sheet is telling you. The way this book is written is very novice-friendly, you won't have to worry about being lost or not being able to understand some words. I can see how the more "advanced" investors might flip through the pages going "I already know that...." But like the title says, It's for dummies. If you know nothing about investing and want to know more, this is a great start. However, If you want to take it to the next level, I recommend a successful mentor.

This book is just what I needed. I started to be interested about the stock market but was totally clueless what it's all about. While I dont like the title, the truth of the matter is I'm a real dummy on this topic. The book really helped a lot. It explained things in a very simple manner. It really gave me the basics of what I need to know. The only thing that I want to add... Can we please pick a better title? LOL

(Hide Review...)  terrible at explaining financial lingo!

The worst part of "Stock Investing for Dummies" is that it refers to previous sections far too often (note: you can refer to the first part of this sentence for something incredibly annoying). It's obvious the writer didn't intend for the book to be read cover-to-cover, but when you're 5 pages into a chapter and it refers you to earlier in the same chapter, it's serious overkill.

Browsing through popular stock sites such as Google/Yahoo Finance, you wind up with an alphabet soup of financial terms and ratios, such as EPS, ROA, and P/E. I was really hoping this guide would dumb-down the incredible amount of jargon, but I actually feel more confused having read this material.

This book did have one huge benefit to me: it convinced me to do a Balance Sheet and an Income Sheet for my own personal finances (after explaining what they actually were). It is so eye opening to have your expenses laid out that clear, and shows how a company is really responsible for doing the same thing, just on a larger scale.

I've read about a dozen books on stock investing in the last 6 months or so and this is probably my favorite. It's detailed, interesting, and very easy to read. It's perfect for dummies, or those new to the stock market, but also so loaded with great info that even the "experts" would probably pick up a few things here and there. Since I just finished reading it, cover to cover, for the second time, I thought I ought to give the author a well-deserved good review.

Easy read and good flow, but this book spends a lot of pages stating the obvious (even obvious or me, and I'm a novice to investing). Some of the early chapters discuss whether or not you're really ready to invest... well, duh! I would not have gotten this book if I was not ready to invest! Anyway, too many pages wasted on that. The real sin with this book is that the author dodges one of the most important things that needs to be talked about with stock investing-- rating the various broker firms. Ok author, I know you can't endorse one over the other directly, but how about helping your readers to find out how they can find out for themselves instead of leaving them stranded. If you're like me and you already know what companies you want to invest in, then one of the main things you need to find out about is which brokers would be the best for you and your needs, and this book never gave any hints.

As a novice investor, I wanted a book that covered all of the basics in detail. This book was exactly that! I wasn't looking for a book that was loaded with ratios and technical data; This book covered everything from determing your risk factor by analyzing your current financial situation, approach, analyzing markets and companies. The basic fundamentals were discussed in detail and also included the important technical aspects of investing with very basic and straight forward examples that were very easy to understand.

I would and have recommended this book to anyone who is looking to invest in the stock market. I liked the book so much I'm going to read it over again.

I would also recommend that seasoned investors read this book just to reinforce the basics of investing that they might have forgotten over the years. Review of the basics is very important in any industry.

I thought that this book was very simple, too simple, almost to the point of being useless. It has all the basic stuff but it just seems simple and very basic. I think one needs more including the do's and dont's including some guidance or the investor could lose a lot of money - and quickly.

This book is a bit light weight. There are many better books.

I read almost every book I can about investing. I have been investing since I was a paperboy at age 16. A man came to my parent's home and presented stock to purchase in an insurance company that was going public. My father, brother and I bought shares in that company. (I realize now that we made a very risky choice in purchasing stocks from a man selling door-to-door). Several years later, I sold my shares to pay college expenses. After college, I jumped into buying low-priced stocks. I later was introduced to a system of buying low-priced stocks of $3 or less a share by an investor named R. Max Bowser. Somewhere in the 1970s I began receiving free copies of a newsletter that he started. After a year, I remember having to subscribe in order to keep receiving the monthly newsletter. I have found his system to be profitable and easy to understand. In addition to the featured book, "Stock Investing for Dummies," I would also recommend R. Max Bowser's books. I have recently read Mr. Bowser's newest book which is based on his investing experience over the past 24 years. After buying "Stock Investing For Dummies," I would recommend getting hold of a copy of "Guaranteed Profits: The Only Stock Market Investment System That Comes With A $5,000 Guarantee," by R. Max Bowser. I have never known of another author making such a guarantee.

I purchased this book in an attempt to decipher all the stock market jargon on the Internet. This book has helped me understand the vast majority of the terms, and gives solid information for first time investers (the author even explains WHEN NOT to get into stock investing). The layout and organization of the book is the reason I gave it five stars.
