Reviewer Permalink
In a nutshell - it is 800 pages of essential material on the topic. Yes, it is HUGE! It's as big as a Gutenburg Bible. But it is the most complete collection of reference material you will ever find. It is actually the required textbook for many of the better Black Belt Certifying courses. That being said it should be paired up and sold as a discounted package deal along with Gygi's "Six Sigma For Dummies". Before begining a Black Belt course you should read "Six Sigma For Dummies" from cover to cover prior to taking the course (300 pages). Then keep the Six Sigma Handbook close by as reference material. You will most assuredly keep both books on your shelf forever and use them frequently.

The Six Sigma Handbook is very thou rough however, if you're not familiar with statistics I recommend a more basic statistics book to accompany this subject.

This is an excellent book for all levels of experience in quality management programs. A very concise, structured and detailed explanation of Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma as well as Lean processes.
The Handbook helped me integrate my 15 years of SPC, TQM, and ISO into the Six Sigma "framework".
I would recommend this book be read by all managers of any organization. I learned important information in every chapter, although I had been exposed to most concepts for many years.
Highly recommended!

As a former practitioner of Total Quality Management, Kaizen, Continuous Improvement, Just In Time, Total Productive Maintenance, etc. and, now, Six Sigma, I highly recommend the "Six Sigma: The Complete Guide..." to both newbie's wanting a broad and deep explanation of Six Sigma as well as seasoned Belts wanting to brush up on its principles. I keep it continually at my finger tips to review and refresh my knowledge of the subject.

Negative Points: Define, Improve and Control phase. For a "handbook" it should provide a lot more examples and details.

Positive Points: It gives a good idea of dashboards and projects prioritization.

I am taking an online Six Sigma class from Aveta and this is the required
reading. I have asked a few of my fellow Six Sigma experts to review the
book and they said this is a good book for an introduction to Six Sigma.
The book is quite large so you will need strong arms :-), but all in all
a great book and easy reading.

The Six Sigma Handbook was a required reading as part of the Black Belt Certification I am taking. I have read the entire handbook. I found some chapters easier to read than others. There are other books, on Six Sigma, that may easier for the novice to read. This book is a great desk-top reference for anyone who is in the manufacturing line of business because most of the examples are focused in that direction. The book does contain some transactional examples from service companies that are helpful.

Pyzdek demonstrates his experience in the field of improvement, as all dimensions are thoroughly addressed. As an experienced engineering manager, I do not see too many stones unturned.

This book is an exceptionally interesting read for that rainy night beside the fire. It kept my interest from page one to the end, wherever that is.
All the while my faithful Labrador Retriever never left my side, or the fireside for that matter. That could have had something to do with the ham sandwich, but I digress.

You can't go wrong with a title like this and I believe you will be delighted with your purchase!

Thomas Pyzdek explains the most complex aspects of six sigma in simple understandable terminology. The systematic quantification of various stages of process management makes six sigma an excellent resource for an accountable organization. In this book, you can see clearly how to implement the six sigma prolem solving process. While six sigma is beneficial for product and process management, it doesn't impact the underlying thinking within the organization. To optimize the underlying suboptimal thinking and maximize the impact of six sigma, I strongly recommend the Optimal Thinking book and training program.

This book is a must have for anyone applying six sigma to real world problems. Not only do I use it on a nearly daily basis, I'm finding that my engineers are embracing the terminology and concepts so clearly conveyed in this text. We're spending 20-minutes at each staff meeting to review topics from basic statistics to advanced application of teaming concepts to get results. Instead of the usual soft stuff application examples that seem to illustrate that the author thinks everyone's making clothes pins, Pyzdek's book shows that he's really lived this stuff. I highly recommend this book to anyone serious about applying six sigma for results.

Tom Pyzdek has a gift for explaining complex topics in simple terms. While the Six Sigma Handbook is a complete and accurate discussion of the material, unlike many books on this topic, this one is clear and easy to understand. Tom has actually used these techniques and his examples and explanations are easy to follow. Many books on this subject deal with theory or math. Tom tells you what to do to solve problems. The Six Sigma Handbook is a must-read for Engineers and Managers.

I am using this book as part of a six sigma course and it contains a lot of good information. On the downside I have seen some typos and some of the stat explanations were not as thorough as I would have liked. It I did not see binomial distribution table in it - I had to create my own. Aside from that it covers the topics well.

I have been doing Six Sigma projects for GE worldwide for over six years. I was very pleased to find a book that doesn't pontificate about the benefits of Six Sigma without telling the practitioner what to do on a Monday morning. The organization of the tools using the DMAIC framework is especially useful for the beginning BB who is trying to make sense of the weeks of training while they are executing their projects.

Some sections, such as the TVM and Risk and Reliability analysis, are missing from the usual BB training and are welcome additions for extending the traditional Six Sigma methodology to `Lean' type projects.

Screen shots of Minitab and Excel make it a useful resource for refreshing techniques learned long ago.

The application of reliability analysis to call center abandonment rates is an interesting application of known techniques to a new area.

"The Six Sigma Handbook" is one of only a few reference books on Six Sigma that I have at my desk.

We have taken the time to extensively read and assess the best selling texts on the topic of Six Sigma. We find this text to be the most complete and helpful for those who desire to be certified as a six sigma professional and for those who are certified and need a complete manual to use as a reference. Our firm uses it for all three levels of Six Sigma Certification training. The value ad of this text is that it also includes valuable topics all managers need if they want to improve the performance of their divisions, departments or lines of supervision. Thumb through it and let your own curiosities be your judge. You will not be disappointed.
