Georgina, Succubus extraordinaire, juggles a new protégée, some new angels and a few more immortals all while working hard to maintain her ever complicated romantic life. Bits of her past come back to haunt her and just when everything seems to be perfect more complications arise.
Georgina is a complex character. What she is, a succubus, is often a direct contrast to what she wants and how she feels, making her a demon with a heart and a conscience. It creates some interesting problems and makes for very entertaining reading. It has been about five hours since I finished this book and closed its pages and I find that the chapters, the characters, the events, are still very much on my mind. I loved the previous books, but I am simply in awe of this one. It's a fantastic tale, yet not one thing that happens seems unrealistic. The presence of succubae, incubi, angels and various other immortals and demons all seem so real that I no longer feel like I am reading a fantasy, or reading a book for that matter. I get lost in the pages and I think that is a sign of an excellent read and a great author. This is one of those books I will be thinking about on and off for quite some time. Emotionally this book really put me through the paces and as a result I feel drained. I feel like I have been through everything that Georgina has this go-round and even though some of it wasn't pleasant, I was hanging on and loving every written word. It really resonated deeply within me. Ms. Mead has a real flair for mixing the real with the unreal and making everything seem tangible. Every time I finish one of her books, she leaves me dying to dive into the next and that's where I find myself now...impatiently. In the third book in the Georgina Kincaid series, everyone's favorite succubus is up to her old tricks. There's a new succubus in town, Tawny, a bleached blonde with Barbie-like proportions who couldn't bag a man to save her life, and Georgina is supposed to act as her mentor. Which would be fine--if Georgina didn't have her own stuff going on.
First, there's her relationship with author Seth Mortensen, an author who was Georgina's celebrity crush long before he became her real-life boyfriend. Georgina and Seth began their relationship with an understanding that it couldn't ever turn physical. He's a mortal with a good soul, and she's a succubus who could steal his life force if they so much as kissed too long. No, it's a strictly hands-off relationship for Georgie and Seth, and it worked at first. But as time progresses the two have to learn if they can have a relationship based purely on emotional intimacy, with no future hope of physical intimacy. And finally there's her job. Previously voted Succubus of the Year, and now having to set an example for Tawny, Georgina's never had a problem getting energy fixes from any man she sets her sights on. Only recently, every time she gets a fix she wakes up and it's gone. No post-sex glow, no life force energy coursing through her body. Totally and completely drained. Which wouldn't be such a problem if she didn't need the energy to live. And if there weren't a mysterious band of angels roaming through her 'hood. Determined to get to the bottom of it, in Succubus Dreams, Georgina sets out to train her intern, fix her relationship, and find out why she can't keep a fix. This book follows Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, Book 1) and Succubus on Top (Georgina Kincaid, Book 2) as the third book in Richelle Mead's succubus series. And this is one series that just keeps getting better. Succubus Blues was a light-hearted introduction to a heroine you want to hate but can't. I mean, she can get laid at the drop of a hat, if she has a bad hair day she just shape-shifts it away, and she can have any man that she wants. What's not to hate. But SB also showed Georgina's vulnerability. She doesn't want to be a career succubus, and has remorse about the souls that she steals. Then Succubus on Top was more about Georgina the succubus and the goings-on in the dark side. The relationship with Seth was more fleshed out, and readers got a little bit more background on how Georgina became the woman she is now. Well if those were the intro, this is the real deal. Succubus Dreams is the heavy hitter in this series. Delving into Georgina's morals--can she really condemn Seth to a life without sex? Even if she says he can get it elsewhere, they both know it will kill her if he does. Can she live the rest of her life seducing the innocent? She sold her soul to help the man that she loved once, but when the imp who brokered the deal shows up, Georgina has to finally take a hard look inside. And is she really cut out to work for the dark side? All that and more is tackled in this book, and I have to say it's the best in the series. I enjoyed it from start to finish and look forward to seeing where Ms. Mead takes us in the next book in the series, Succubus Heat, which releases January 2009. This is the third novel in the Georgina Kincaid series. Against all odds (this is not a genre I have ever had much interest in), I really enjoyed the first two works in this series. I am a little more ambiguous about this novel, even though it is enchanting in its own way. Perhaps that is because it gets harder to make each new entry in a series as good as its predecessors. Perhaps because the ending is not as I would have it.
The issues here are intriguing enough. Georgina has to serve as a mentor to a succubus who is not very adept to begin with. The imp who took her soul centuries ago in a poignant situation is back in the picture, creating all manner of problems with her. She finds that the energy that she has is drained during the night, as she experiences strange dreams. As a succubus, she needs to reenergize herself more often by seeking out more lovers. The imp already mentioned reminds her of her misery over what happened so many years before. Her relationship with the mortal, Seth Mortenson, continues to be both uplifting and frustrating (to consummate their relationship is to drain a portion of his life force). What is at stake is exemplified by this brief passage (Page 258): "I couldn't stay [in Georgina's words] in my bedroom after that, not after seeing two angels die--one physically and one spiritually." Yikes! Angels dying? The ending, for me, is quite sad, although--perhaps--inevitable. Perhaps that conclusion will be revisited in later works in this series. Perhaps not. But the ending is poignant indeed. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-01 03:36:19 EST)

I just love Richelle Mead! Her books always captivate me (and make me laugh!) And she created another fantastic book that i recommend to everyone that likes this genre. The pace is great, writing style is amazing (a lot of sarcasm in the humor for those who love that) and the characters are just so believable and that's saying a lot considering they are succubi, vampires, demons and angels...
The love story is intriguing but it doesn't completely take over the book and the sex scenes are not too frequent, and when they happen, it's not what you would expect!! For those of you in doubt, stop and buy it, you won't regret it! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-25 02:23:33 EST)

All I can say is wow! Richelle has really out done herself w/ this installment. I knew it was going to be good but not this good. Georgina seems to have her "normal" life turned upside down. She learns she has to mentor a new succubus, the imp who convinced her to sell her soul centuries ago is back in her life and hell-bent on making her suffer, she seems to be having these vivid dreams of a impossible future that steal her hard earned "soul energy" and her relationship with Seth takes a surprising turn. This summation doesn't begin to cover the contents of the book but I don't want to give too much away. Georgina has been encouraging her friend Maddie to make some life changes; little did Georgina know how Maddie's life changes would affect her own. I am very happy with how things turned out w/ Seth; I think this change will benefit both of them. This is one Xmas that Georgina will never forget.

All hail the immense and creative talent that is Richelle Mead.
What tales of woe could plague Georgie and the gang, especially with Christmas looming around the corner? Plenty, because lucky Georgie, when it rains, it's a maelstrom of bad tidings. And boy, is woe and pain a litter full. For starters, eorgina's demonic job isn't going so swell. Some thing or some creature is zapping her energy in the form of shockingly realistic dreams. But this only happens as soon as she's recharged. Meanwhile, Niphon, the imp that she, as the Cyrpian mortal Letha, made a contract with, has bounded into Seattle...with an inept succubus in training, that's more toil and trouble than her hellish love life. Speaking of which, Seth and her have reached the point of no return, the heart breaking kind. With issues of his mortality begins to become the focal point of their relationship, it is eerily paralleled with the situation unfolding around her. As a team of heavenly angels are sent to Seattle to 'sniff' out the mysterious being stealing Georgie's energy, the relationship between one of the angels, Yasmine and a very special psychic, Vincent, is showing Georgina how things can end up between two star-crossed overs. And it ain't exactly happy. While heaven sorts out its own issues, down on earth, Georgie, while trying to make her and Seth work, is also trying to figure out what's going on with herself in general, and if her dreams of a family and happiness can really be true. For this, she enlists the help of an enemy of Erik, a dream interpreter and a black arts magician, with more interest in sex than helping, though what lies beneath, for everyone around Georgie, is not as it appears. I can't even begin to state how fantastic this book, this entire series and its author, the wonderfully crafty Ms. Mead, is. When I finished, all I could say was: 'Holly freaking cow. That was incredible'. What I thought was: 'Oh my god, that was one of the best books I've read in a good long while, that I almost forgot what good writing and story telling is.' And then the fact that I have wait for the next one. It is more than just a fresh breath of air, but the kind of talent and story telling to last long after the fact. The action, whether physical or emotional, is not only palpable and evocative, but so well written that you'll find yourself gripping the pages, wondering what will happen next. To Georgie, Seth, her friends, mortal or otherwise. All the characters are so visceral and so captivating, they feel real, tangible. Mead's ability to keep things moving along as well as incredibly fascinating is a rare skill. She knows how to balance good dialog with self introspection that is never dull, meaningless or syrupy. It's smart, witty, funny and you'll wish it'd never end. Which is why I'll be re-reading the entire series until the fourth ones comes out. And not soon enough! Shape shifting succubus Georgina Kincaid is concerned with the strange dreams of a weird future she has begun having as she is unused to being the one drained of energy; instead as a hell class succubus she does the draining of men she has sex with. Desperate for relief, she visits dream interpreter Dante Moriarty, but he proves more charming than a snake oil salesman; providing her with no sustenance.
She considers discussing her fears with has platonic boyfriend bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, but hesitates as she knows he is obsessed with his writing at the moment; besides she might want to test the life in her man which can prove deadly to the male. Finally there is her inept apprentice succubus Tawny, but the new kid on the block is a know it all who knows nothing at all. Soon, matters turn odder when angels arrive for no earthly reason. New York is turning into hell in a hand basket if you ask Georgina as she has an unknown adversary to confront. The third well written Succubus saga (see SUCCUBUS BLUES and SUCCUBUS ON TOP) is an engaging lighthearted paranormal romantic romp with Georgina struggling to solve the mystery of whom and why someone is draining her when she sleeps. The story line is fast-paced and filled with heated sex, but it is the bewildered beleaguered belle from hell who keeps the plot focused as she deals with the men and one woman in her life instead of the usual life in her men. "Succubus Dreams" shakes up everything in Georgina's world, & this is the first book in the series that I could not put down. I am really starting to love Georgina's gang of angels & demons, & a new character, Dante, is introduced. It seems that he might be around for awhile. We even get another glimpse into Georgina's past (during the Black Plague) in Europe.
By far, the best part of the book was finding out that there might be a glitch in Georgina's contract to Niphon. I can't wait to see where all of this leads. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-20 02:24:53 EST)

I have to say that this is my favorite of the Georgina Kincaid series by far. Even though I could see the ending coming, I was still blown away. Richelle Mead has a way of writing that gives you such a vivid picture. I could feel what Georgina was feeling at the end of the book. If you are having any reservations about purchasing this book, know that it is well worth the read.

I have to say that Succubus Dreams may be one of the best books I have read in 2008. While Georgina's story continues to unfold we get to see all her outer layers stripped bare, and new hints to her future revealed. I have to admit that I cried towards the end, and while the book did not necessarily leave me with a "happy-romantic-the-world-is-great" feeling, it left me craving MORE! I can't wait for the next book!!! Mead showed us the harder to swallow aspects of Georgina's personality and held nothing back in regards to putting her through difficult times. One could even argue that what happens to Georgina is exactly what she deserves, and Ms.Mead makes it so that while we can see the unpleasant side of her character, the reader still finds themselves deeply caring for Georgina. Succubus Dreams managed to deliver and more! Something that can't be said for most of series books I have read this year.

Succubus Dreams is the third book in Richelle Mead's succubi series. Meet Georgina Kincaid, Seattle's top succubus, whose most intense desires are for a normal, happy relationship and to one day have children... neither of which are going to be easy for her to attain as a minion of hell.
This is a fabulous sequel. Georgina's relationship with the author Seth is going relatively well, even though they can't be very close sexually. Then we meet Tawny, the new succubus in town, and everything begins spiraling downhill from there. Tawny is amazingly inept, and if she does poorly, Georgina will be the one punished. As if that weren't enough, Georgina comes to realize that every morning after she steals life energy, she wakes up completely drained, as if she'd never gone out hunting in the first place. Then her house becomes a meeting place for angels, one angel she discovers is on the dangerous verge of breaking the rules, and, of course, now is the time for her relationship with Seth to become complicated. Mead still has a knack for prose; her words flow and are used so well. Images are vivid and alive, and each character is given a distinct personality. However, as much as I enjoyed the novel, I felt this one was more predictable than the previous two. When Maddie claimed she had a secret, I already knew exactly what it was. Seth's revelation near the end came as no surprise to me, even though it shocked Georgina. Niphon's role was predictable, and Tawny's even more so. Despite that, I still highly recommend following up. Mead's writing is superb and only gets better with each novel she writes. Her characters never fail to change, grow, and even fall several steps back. In short, this is definitely worth the read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-10 04:06:01 EST)

Tiny spoiler... be warned. This was my favorite book in the series, yet when I was finished I was left unsatisfied. Georgina is being preyed upon, gets interested in voyeurism, and to top it all off she gets dumped, thats right she gets dumped. I cried for like an hour, it was depressing because it ended on such a sad note, with little hope on Georgina and Seth getting back together, or just Georgina being happy period. But one can only hope, and authors never cease to amaze me.

Richelle Mead claims on her blog that she doesn't want to write stories where everything ends the same way it started. In this third installment of her Georgina Kincaid series, Mead proves this is true. This Seattle-based story is certainly no mere sitcom. The characters continue to develop in realistic, believable ways that keep you drooling for more. Our lovable succubus tries to juggle her "work" and her personal life, while training up the new girl in town and solve the mystery of why her supernatural energy is being drained overnight. This is a MUST READ. I'd give it 6 stars if I could!

I've thoroughly enjoyed this series and this 3rd book is no exception.
** Warning: Spoilers in my review. Georgina Kincaid is having a heck of a Christmas so far. As she's continuing to work hard at her relationship with Seth, a relationship that everyone thinks is a hopeless case, she finds out that she's to be a mentor to a brand new succubus who is terrible at her job. Not only that but the imp who had bought her soul is the one who has to oversee her mentoring of the new succubus and he definately seems to be out to make sure she fails in her role although she does not know why. A posse of angels sets up camp in her apartment with a mysterious agenda, she has a lot of hot succubus scenes and finds that it is getting harder and harder to deny the desires between her and Seth. More trouble is on the horizon as our heroine discovers that something or someone is draining her energy. She has strange fascinating and realistic dreams then wakes up with all her energy gone, meaning she has to 'feed' more often. This situation causes her to seek out help and she is directed towards a man name Dante who isn't really helpful in doing anything more then to confuse her further. You see glimpses of her past and it just makes Georgina even more of a real person. You find yourself feeling sorrow and empathy for her in her remebrances of the past, her mistakes that she's made and the guilt that she carries around. Some of the characters reference that she's the 'succubus with a heart' and that may be simplistic but it's true. Her actions don't seem evil but merely those of any normal human being with emotions. She still finds joy in life even in her situation. She's still a romantic, she's pragmatic but optimistic and she has a great cast of friends. The ending made me cry and upset me, which is a testement to the author's skill in creating such a likable and realistic character. SPOILER.....Her relationship with Seth takes a incredibally (for me) tragic turn and I wanted to rail against the fates for her sake. I really hated Seth and still do, because I had liked him so much before and as he betrayed Georgina, I felt betrayed as well. I felt sorry for him, but no longer. I wasn't satisfied with the way it ended. I wanted Seth to suffer, perhaps he is suffering, but that doesn't change what he'd done. It shocked me that this happened and I don't know how it will be handled in the next book. I'm rooting for Georgina to find happiness, true happiness, and am confident that she will.
