This is an excellent read that you won't be able to put down until you've finished! Whether you like your zombies NOTLD slow or 28 Days or 28 Weeks Later fast and aggressive, it doesn't matter. You are gonna love this book! Get in a comfortable chair in a quiet room with nothing to disturb you, sit back, start reading, and prepare yourself for one helluva ride! Before long this book is going to swallow you up! I hope J.L. comes out with a sequel soon!

I felt this was a surprisingly good novel from a first time writer. The format is of a personal journal, complete with spelling and grammer errors, kept by a survivor. With the story written from the first person perspective, and without to much detail about the survivor, it is very easy to "fall into" the story. It also focuses mainly on what is going on directly around the character; you have little idea what is happening in the rest of the city, country or world.

I do have a few small criticisms. I don't feel the characterization of the supporting cast is very good. I just can't imagine what they look like, if you know what I mean. And the ending is much more abrupt then I would have liked.

At the end of my edition is a beginning chapter of a follow up book. To be blunt I hope this will be heavily re-written and edited. It's just not up to the standard of the first.

(Hide Review...)  A very good read, worth picking up but a little "too perfect" for my tastes=
Reviewer Permalink
Let me be clear from the start - I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Fans of zombie apocalypse speculative fiction would be well served picking up this book if they have not already done so. The author is clearly intelligent and has done his research and his attention to detail is fantastic.

My problem is that the story is a little bit too perfect - the protagonist is just too good at what he does and his luck appears to be just too good. There doesn't appear to be a single skill or ability that he or his crew doesn't have to tackle the myriad of situations they're faced with. This is not a story about your `average joe' who rises to the nigh impossible challenge of surviving in a world filled with the undead. It's more like MacGyver vs. the Undead.

Day by Day Armageddon is a masterpiece of survival horror. This fictional diary of a man's struggle to stay alive in a post apocalyptic world full of the shuffling(and not so!)undead will chill you to the bone. The incredibly taut tension in this book of "no where to run to, nowhere to hide" jacks the suspense meter up to almost unheard of levels. The action is fast and furious with bullets flying, bodies falling and many hair raising escapes. I've read Max Brooks World War Z as well and while worthwhile it just didn't generate the type of "edge of my seat" feelings Day By Day Armageddon did. Yes the cover is cheesy but that's really the only bad thing i can say about it. If you're looking for some new horror to read i can't suggest this book more you'll love it.

It's really, truly an awesome zombie book. It's hard to compare the great zombie books (everyone has different tastes) but I'd rate it as good as, maybe better than "World War Z". I also think it's as good as "Xombies" (but not everyone liked that one as much as I did).

It's a great book. Even if you just enjoy the horror genre and not zombie stories in particular, you'll probably like this book.

I *cannot* wait for the sequel!!

Ok, so this is my first review and I'm not going to get into plot detail and what not. Read the book, you'll learn the plot.
I will say that I'm in my 20s, I'm in the navy and I like zombies. That being said, this was a great book. Everyone talks about the spelling errors and the grammer but it's written "journal style" by an average guy so it just adds to the realness of the book. I even think the fake stains and rips are a nice touch.
If you like zombies and people trying to survive in a world full of them, then this is the book for you!

I'm writing this simply because reviews do help buyers sway one way or another(if u have not written one, write one)on buying something, and thankfully enough people reviewed this book or i probably would not have bought it. I gave this book four stars simply because I'm a very though critic overall, and their is always room for improvement. Let me start off by saying that i have been a zombie fan since i saw the remake of Night OF THE LIVING DEAD (color) when i was six to eight years old, zombies themselves i don't think captivated me, it was the awkward situation these people where put in having to flee from these vacant bodies roaming around at two and a half miles per hour, it was the having to survive a sea of these foot dragging and shifting disease infested and plagued, walking dead!

One day after school, years later when i was in middle school having long forgotten zombies, i played a game called Resident Evil on the Playstation at my friends house, once again i became captivated by the re-animated corpses, Resident Evil 2 came out shortly and it sealed the deal. Now here i am, searching for anything zombie of quality material. Disappointment after disappointment swept for years when the RE movies came out, frankly they where garbage, i know their are some fans that liked the movies but i almost asked for my money back when the first one came out, i ditched school nervously as i sat in the theater waiting for the movie to start, and when the credits rolled i wished i would have stayed in class. It was my second semester at a JC when the remake of Dawn of the Dead came out, i craved for the movie for weeks until i finally saw it. I really liked it, it was worth the wait, and plenty of gambles in the movie that could have been disastrous for the survivors.28 days later was amazing! Something to really enjoy, the sequel was good, but ok. Shawn of the dead, a zombie comedy, i thought it was good, but it was one of those things that had great potential. After that, well things where pretty skimpy, i hated Land of the dead, diary of the dead was ok.

For all i knew everything had been drilled and drained when it came to zombies. Well, i was so wrong, i had not expanded my horizons. As i was unaware, their was dead literature both graphic and novels. I was looking up the color night of the living dead dvd since i hadent seen it since i was a kid. Then i saw the cover for issue 50 of The Walking Dead a comic series, the cover stole the show as i was immediately sold, i read reviews they where positive, so i bought the first hard cover, when i purchased it, i saw the picture of this novel, so i read about it, but wasent sold, i understood maybe a zombie comic, because you could show all the deatail(but as i came to find out, the series was in black and white) but a zombie novel? I dident really wrap my mind around that concept, i thought it was to weird, but i gave it a try. I mostly only bought the book because with the hard cover i only had $20 in my basket, and in order to get free shipping, i had to spend an extra $5, so enter DBDA! Which ended up being a great decision. I enjoyed The Walking dead A LOT, i have all 3 hard covers.

When i started reading DBDA, i was turned off by the journal format, its some guys journal, so i knew from the start that he could not be infected of hurt to badly from the start because the journal kept going, then i realized, wait a minute, thats not really true, it could easily turn out many ways, like it being found, or passed on, or whatever the case etc. So i kept reading, the first maybe 30 to 40 pages where dragging along, maybe particularly at the beginning because the author of the journal( this is not really a spoiler)is from the military, so he uses some terms that i didn't know what the hell he ment. But soon after this mark, the book takes off. And ill leave it at that. The book is a good read if you're a zombie fan, their is plenty of moments in this book that make it worth the read and the buy. So why the big set up to only say the book is a good read? I just wanted to establish I'm a fan like many of you. And this book hold strong. If you are interested, I do recommend The walking Dead. I can vouch for the First Hard cover vol. i have 2&3 but have not read them. Currently Im reading World War Z, but it sells itself, it already has a lot of reviews to help you decide if you want to buy it. This is a good book! good buy for zombie fans!

Day By Day Armageddon is presented in the form of a journal written by a Navy pilot. It is literally a day-by-day account of the world's decent into being overrun by zombies. As civilization deteriorates and news gets harder to come by, the focus tightens more and more on the nameless narrator and what is happening around him. As you might guess, there are plenty of scenes involving brushes with the undead as well as what has become the obligatory encounter with the most dangerous predator of all, living men.

If the plot of this book is less than original, it is no less compelling as a result. The tension builds slowly but surely and keeps the reader on the edge of his seat. I wouldn't say the characterization is particularly deep, but the main character is both intelligent and reasonably likeable. Because of the writing style, there are no full conversation detailed and so the dialog that would reveal more about the supporting cast is absent. I should add that I did not find this a weakness since the primary goal is to generate suspense and the author more than achieved that.

Alert readers may find that the text riddled with misspellings and other errors. This is actually explained at one point since the narrator says that this is a hastily written journal and acknowledges that it may be poorly written. Personally, I don't object to the idea, but it's probably a trifle overdone and in future volumes I hope this is either toned down or eliminated altogether.

Day By Day Armageddon is an excellent novel about a post-apocalyptic world overrun with zombies. Due to the subject matter, it certainly won't fit everyone's taste. But the pace is relentless and the tension unrelenting making it one of the better horror novels I've read in quite some time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book covers the day to day events in a navy pilots life after the Zombies attack; although I did believe that the character was obsessed with the end of the world. He seemingly had enough supplies to last him for years. I liked the grit and the misspelled words. The book created the feeling that I was reading someones journal. Which is what it intended to do. The book was a quick read I think that I finished it in about a day. I can't wait for part two.

This has to be the best Zombie book I've come across! I read it while on vacation and I found myself actually slowing down my reading to make it last. I read World War Z last year and that was my fav until now. Yes, this journal style book is not as long or in depth as WWZ...but it is the different "flavor" that is so dead on(pun quite intended!). The perspective is great-love the main character...Great military details (I know the author is in the military)..

I have to say this-it is refreshing to not read a zombie book and have the military or government look like buffoons. The author does not make it seem like the military or Gov't are beyond perfect or anything. It is just related as real-life situations that the character comes across and you think "wow, I could really see that happening this way".

Only one drawback...I want to read the next damn book now!!!!

Zombies are always fun to read about and this book does not disappoint.

I think it bordered a bit on the "over-prepared" main character though which did take away from my enjoyment a bit. While the character will have combat skills by virtue of his background, this man seemed methodical and forward thinking to the point of annoyance in several places. It is not that the skills or actions performed by this character were unrealistic, just that such a proficient and able person doesn't make for the most interesting story.

Part of what makes zombie fiction fun is the "everyman" aspect of people from various walks of life thrown into such a tangle. As a group their skills are decent but the story comes from trying to get that group to act in unison under significant stress. In this book the main character has, for the most part, all the skills he needs himself and so the instances where he is saved by a companion when nearly taken by surprise are anti-climactic.

That being said the except from the follow-up title at the end of the book has some good looking hooks. I'll be picking it up.

Overall the book was fun, worth the price of admission but left me feeling that the story could have had better tension with a less capable protagonist.

Day By Day Armageddon was on my birthday list this year, solely based on Amazon's description. I didn't even read the user reviews because, after all, opinions on books (especially zombie books) are subjective. After trudging through (because thats what you will do with this book) I was sadly disappointed.
The spelling and grammatical errors are tough to get over, even in a book written in journal-style formatting. The journal-style doesn't even work in this book. You have pages with fake smudges, and pictures, and random drawings and typed pages, but then all of our main character's thoughts are typed out nice and neat.
The inconsistency is a minor flaw compared to the story that shambles not unlike a real zombie would. It's very slow to unfold, all of the characters are two-dimensional at best, and I was really hoping that one of them would get bitten just to add some excitement to the story.
Overall, this was poorly written and dull. I definitely would not recommend wasting your money or time.

I picked this one up after reading some decent feedback here. The book was formatted in an interesting way told as a journal written by a naval officer who attempts to survive a zombie outbreak. This in and of itself lends the book an interesting perspective of being inside a soldier's mind, seeing the world through his disciplined, methodical eyes. Maybe this was the problem.

Have you ever watched a movie and yelled at the screen because the character's were doing something so blatantly stupid that you were glad they were going to buy it? Yeah me too. Here in lies the problem I had with this book. The main character was so smart, prepared and disciplined for what was to come that there really was never any tension created. He knew how to fight, supply, fly a plane and so on. So there was never really any danger for me. His supporting cast was never in any real danger at any point either. It kind of made me appreciate bad B-movies for what they were again.

That said, the book was enjoyable in terms of watching the two main characters try to keep there sanity as they faced a new, bleak reality. I read through the book in two sittings so it wasn't terrible, just lacking somehow.

I think what I really like about zombie stories is how civilization just breaks down so quickly in the aftermath of such an epidemic. How no one is prepared and how things go from normal to catastrophe in a few days. This book had that, but I didnt FEEL it the same way as say, world war z or the Walking Dead. Overall it was almost too calm and the "daily journal entry" sort of took the suspense and terror out of the writing. Overall it was a pretty boring zombie read.

It took me a while to pick this book up on Amazon for a couple of concerns. Firstly its cover looks like a piece of crap, I'm sorry but it does, and although I know the old adage 'Don't judge a book by its cover' that one doesn't always ring true, check out you local store's bargin bin. Books that the publisher have no faith in usually get stuck with lousy covers.

The second worry was that the book being in a diary format would end up being a little dry. Social commentary's great and all but what about the need for ghouls being shot in the face? In any case neither of those concerns came true. Day By Day Armageddon is a highly enjoyable read, the story is a little soft in places but its style is fantastic, you really get inside the narrator's head and are placed in his shoes. The survival techniques are brilliantly demonstrated (Making it a must-read for anyone crazy enough to believe the zombie apocalypse is actually coming, like, y'know, me.) And it certainly isn't short on the action side of things either.

This is a well writen book that is done in a diary set up which was enteresting. The book does a good job of staying with the old rules of the zombie which is what i liked about it, but he also puts a few minor but very good twist of his own when it comes to the undead. I am a huge fan that the charicter is a servicemember which makes for good tactics and use of skill. Also the fact that the author is as well shows in this book i realy respct that. I would tell anyone who is a fan of zombie's to pick this up and i am realy looking for the sequal.

Nothing really new or groundbreaking in this book. The only interesting idea, without hopefully giving too much away, was the affects of radiation on zombies.

Being written in a journal format makes it easy to read an entry, go do something else, come back and read another, go do something else, repeat. I finished the book in two hours while scanning some documents. While books like World War Z and the Morningstar Virus books spank this one, I have come across some zombie stinkers much worse than this book.

I have some issues with the fictional author of the diary being military and spending his time cleaning guns and lamenting his situation instead of modifying his environment or making more use of the knowledge that fire will kill the zombies. If you have time to lean, you have time to clean.

Quite simply the best zombie book I have ever read. I am a huge fan of the sub genre of zombie horro in general. This book gets the job done.

First, the first person perspective you get from this is great. The author writes this as told by the journal entries of the main character. It is so well done you feel like you may actually be reading a zombie holocaust survivor journal! It really gets you wrapped up in the story.

Second, the action moves quickly. Let's face it, you are reading zombie fiction to be entertained, and fast! This isn't War and Peace, nor does it try to be. The action moves quickly, but the author does a great job on character development, especially the two primary people.

Third, and this is the most exciting part for me, he really addresses the "logistics" of a zombie plague. The planning, rationing, equipment the character needs, etc. pulls you into the fantasy. I always wonder, what would you need in a real zombie outbreak? A fictional problem for which the author gives practical real world answers... makes the whole story feel more "real"

A fast read, great action, and all zombie... what more could you ask? I am "dying" for the sequel.

I've read a bunch of zombie literature over the years, and I accidentally stumbled across this gem! Written by active military J. Bourne, the book takes the form of a action-packed diary written by a survivor of a zombie plague. Some very interesting plot twists and scenarios, and the fact that it's contemporary, well written and a good read combines to make this a sure classic in the making! The second volume is due out here sometime in 2008, so support the author and pick up a copy of volume one - you won't be disappointed if you enjoy zombie literature.

Much like the zombies in Day By Day Armageddon...this book really snuck up on me. It's a fast 200-page read from the perspective (and journal) of one man trying to survive in a world overrun with the undead.

On the plus side, all the situations are perfect for fans of the zombie genre. The character's motives, actions AND reactions all ring with a certain air of truth. The book works as an homage to any of the Romero films where the reasoning why the undead are returning to life isn't as important as the need for the last humans to fight for survival. It's clear that the author has a solid basis for the military, flying, and weapons and this adds a solid level of believability to the proceedings. I especially like that the character actually takes the times to do and address items that most readers would find themselves saying, "Well, you should do this." It's very easy to support an intelligent protagonist.

The minus side is pretty light. Clearly Day By Day Armageddon is the work of a first time author (and smaller publishing house) and some editing may have serviced the novel in sections. There are some grammar issues, although wisely the character mentions that in the writing of his journal not all grammar will be perfect (so it works as a good safety net).

For fans of the zombie movies who are looking to venture out into literature, Day By Day Armageddon is a good place to start. It will keep you entertained and "hungry" for a sequel.

One of the best pieces of zombie apocalypse story telling ever. I love zombies. I have beeen a fan since seeing Dawn OTD (the orginal) in my early teens. Mr. Bourne has a gift for painting a vivid image in the reader's mind, and leaves you turning pages as time slips by. I hope he completes the sequel soon; I will by it. If you are a fan of the genere, this is a must own. It delivers shocks and gore that should be in any book about this subject, but has you pulling for the main character and the people he comes across during his fight for survival. When the inevitable day comes when the dead walk, and we all must fight to survive; you will be glad that you went on this jouney before thanks to J.L. Bourne.

This is one of the most (if not THE most) entertaining books I've read. I was hooked from the beginning and could not put it down. I swear to you all that there was not a single boring page in the entire book. It flowed excellently. You get to experience the horror first hand through the main characters perspective in this first person diary thriller. Violence, horror, fear, and a bit of comic relief at some points. Definitely a must read. This book definitely has my standards high for future zombie books that I read.

Right now I'm reading World War Z and sadly I'm not enjoying it nearly as much as I did this one. I will definitely be buying the sequel.

Where Kim Paffenroth's recent release Dying to Live was to be considered the philosopher's guide to existence after a zombie invasion, J. L. Bourne's novel Day by Day Armageddon is everyday man's field guide to survival. With the gritty, no-nonsense voice of a young Naval officer, Bourne details the evolution of an outbreak of a virus that spreads rapidly from China to America, turning everyone in its path into hordes of mindless, hungry undead. Trapped in his home in San Antonio, Texas the man begins keeping a daily diary of his experiences, detailing in dreary, realistic terms the progression of the downfall of the United States. After making allies with another survivor a few houses away, an engineer by the name of John, they flee the city only hours before the U.S. government is to drop nuclear warheads on all major national cities, including San Antonio. Day after day, with his sanity wearing thin and rations running low, the men continue what seems to be a hopeless struggle for survival in a world overrun with flesh-eating zombies. [...]

Not a bad book as far as zombie literature goes, but not nearly as great as World War Z. The main character decides to start a daily journal, and quickly notes a virus sweeping China. Well, you know what happens next. In a few weeks the world is populated by flesh eating zombies. What I didn't buy was the part of the main character keeping a journal, especially when he was on the run. On some days, he has pages and pages of what happened during that day, in great detail. Personally, if I was being chased by flesh eating zombies, I don't think I would have the time, energy or inclination to write entries in a daily journal each day, in long hand. But if you can get past that, the book isn't all that bad. I would usually read it before bed to help put me to sleep.

this is really good but a very GUY book. The guy lives ready for a zed invasion. I mean who lives like that? It would be more intrasting if he were a normal person and had to servive, but he is a trained military guy who is perfectly capable of surviving ZED

I'm trying to catch up on my reviews, so I'll not repeat what many others here have said, only summarize:

Read This Book.

The author's choice of how the story is presented (jornal format), plus the 'pure' shambling Zs archtype, combined with a genuinely 'good' storyline and characters that you not only related to, but want to hear more about, makes this book a 'must read' for fans of the genre.

(Not) patiently waiting for the next one, J. L. ;)

I liked this book, the only thing that could of improved it was it ended short.

His look into the zombies made them seem pluasible from the fast movers to the hearing..

I have a certain amount of respect for anyone who can finish a novel, and, judging from his blog, the author is a nice guy. But to be honest, this book is, well, terrible. I mean, really terrible. Look, it IS a zombie novel, so the standards are low. It's not as bad as, say, the literally unreadable _Monster Island_, but it's certainly not in the same league as _World War Z_. If you are really, really, really, really jonesing for a zombie novel, this might suffice for a beach read. But be forewarned: it's really badly-written, and the plot isn't in any way novel or compelling.

I just finished going through the bad reviews and thought I'd give one of my own. I saw where a lot of people complained about the editing of the book and the grammar errors, I though it added to the authenticity of it being an actual journal and written by someone that didn't know if they would be alive the next day or join the ranks of the walking dead. Who would have time to spell check in that situation and who would really care. I thought that the book was great and can't wait for the next one. Oh, I just remembered to spell check, just in case someone feels the need to pick apart what I had to say.

This book was well written and I enjoyed how it stayed true to classic zombie lore and rules. True, they do add a new trick with the effects of radiation on Zombies, but the book pulls it off well. I would recomend this book to anyone who loves Zombies and all I have to say is where is part 2?

I bought this on a lark and was incredibly suprised! I read it in less than a day and I am usually a real slow reader. My wife, who hates all things horror or Sci-Fi read it in just a few hours - she loved it and even passed it to her g/f's who only like popular books like Harry Potter or Davinci Code and they loved it too. This grabs you, pulls you in and wont let you go.
My only complaint is it is too short - I wanted more, more, more!
Cant wait for the follow up and hopefully, the movie.
This was more entertaining than most of the zombie movies made recently.
Kick butt!

Ack. Where to start? Small vocabulary hinders this short story. Page after page is predictably chunked out in the same fashion. To further degrade this zombie novel author seems to be living out a personal fantasy rather than hooking the reader with a plot. All this would not be bad if his main character wasn't a wimpy nerd geek that feels uncomfortable when he hasn't shaved for a few days. The main character as well as the minuscule development just does not fit with a person that survives the zombie hordes. Day by Day Armageddon is a less than average try at a novel and should have been a free read on the internet bulletin boards. There are far better zombie novels to spend money on.

If you are an apocalyptic world/Zombie fan this book is for you. Diary format is awesome and technical aspects are accurate (I am a military guy myself). Reading the first 70+ pages on-line hooked me and I had to buy the book. Can't wait for Part II, as the ending of this book leaves no closure only possibilities. Must buy if you loved World War Z.

(Hide Review...)  One of the best titles in the Zombie genre
Reviewer Permalink
A Plague of unknown origins is sweeping across the planet. A virus is reanimating the dead and when they rise the only thing they seek is warm human flesh. They hunt their prey tirelessly and without any remorse. All that made them human in life no longer exists in death. They are now nothing more than mindless killing machines. Governments have lost all measure of control and billions are either dead or dying. Civilization is crumbling and it is every man for himself. Come enter this nightmarish world through the journals of an unnamed U.S. Naval officer. Bare witness to his daily struggle for survival in this dark and twisted new landscape ruled by the Dead.

I have said it time and time before, but one more time wont hurt, I am a sucker for a good zombie story. I have also come to expect nothing but the best from Permuted Press releases. They publish the best Zombie Fiction on the market today so when I got my copy of Day By Day Armageddon I was expecting nothing but the best. Once again Permuted Press has come through in a big way. Day by Day Armageddon starts fast and never slows. Mr. Bourne serves up a story full of blood and guts along with nonstop action. I was also very pleased with the character development. Often times zombie stories lack well develop characters focusing solely on the gore and action. Mr Bourne did not make that mistake.. The characters are not wooden in the least and I actually found myself caring about the fate of the protagonist. I have rarely ever had that happen in a zombie story. The story flows smoothly and when I finished I was left feeling satisfied but a little disappointed. The story itself was wonderful, but I wish it had been longer. Maybe Mr. Bourne will give us one day. I will be one of the first to snatch up a copy if he does.

I will end by saying that I highly recommend Day by Day Armageddon to all Zombie Fiction fans and fans of Horror Fiction in general. It is one heck of a story that will leave even the most jaded readers feeling satisfied. Permuted Press has published another great story and they have become the premier name in Zombie fiction.

(Hide Review...)  Unique approach, but possibly harmed as a result

The biggest difference between this book and any other in the zombie apocalypse genre is that it's written as the survivor's journal. I could see how if we were being fed these entries daily or every couple of days over a blog, the reader would be at the edge of their seat waiting for an update on the status of our hero and the others that join him. Collected into a book, the suspense is somewhat lost, but it was a page turner nonetheless. The journal feel is carried further by the cover layout and jotted notes and other scribbled effects on some pages.

If you're a zombie fanatic, this book does quite the job of skipping over the typical introductory bits where the main character(s) learn first hand about the nature of what's happening to the populace. There's no first encounter where the protagonist wonders what's wrong with his neighbor. There's no pesky son to rescue across town, no lack of weapons or defenses. Our guy is a military man, a pilot, and his survivalist instincts are fully in place before we read the first entry in his journal. He has solar powered submarine batteries charging in his house, he has a stone wall lined with glass shards around his property. When something fishy begins, he's bought a brick of ammo, stocked up on rations and barred his windows against looters.

He's ready for anything and quite able to live on his own. Heck, he conserves ammo and goes McGyver on his first kill, but none of the undead have a name or face. Was this zombie a neighbor?

This perfect setup for survival (the character's skills, defenses, supplies and weapons), for the reader, comes off as an exciting test of how a near perfect scenario would go down. This is no unprepared schlep here. Our hero does have a heart underneath all the training and he eventually risks himself to help others and that's when the story gets good.

It's a different take, interesting but a little impersonal. The ending is abrupt, so much so that "part one" should have been included in the title. The author has a good understanding of military equipment and the soldier's mindset, that's for certain.

(Hide Review...)  Excellent Zombie Novel--but where's the ending?
Reviewer Permalink
This was a fantastic zombie novel. It's presented in journal format and purports to tell the real story of how this plague went down. The author never discusses the cause of the outbreak, which these characters would never uncover unless they were intimately involved with the cure/creation, etc. This is definitely a pageturner and I highly recommend it.
The only problem I had with the book was that it was, in my opinion, unfinished. The book is relatively short (@ 200 pgs) and it ends abruptly, with the fate of the cast hanging in midair. With a few more chapters added, this could really have been one of the premier zombie novels around. I would love to find out what exactly happened to the main characters. This is why I could only give it 4 stars.
There is a preview for a sequel at the end. It's dubious as to whether or not the fate of the original cast will be thoroughly examined, just gleaned over, or completely left out. Unfortunately, this sequel is written just like a regular book, the author ditching the journal format which worked so well for the original.

If you are looking for non stop, credible action with a fine balance between realism and horror, then here is a book that deserves your full attention!

The story told in this book has the reader follow the fate and adventures of a Navy transport pilot that gets caught up -as everybody else- by a China-originating, fast-growing zombie plague. In order to save himself, the `hero' needs escaping from his town. The story unfolds rapidly and, thanks to the hero's skills and the support of other characters encountered during the escape, leads the number of survivors to grow and find shelter in unexpected locations.

The format used to tell this tale is a personal diary, with scratches, comments, some B&W pictures and underlined sections of the text.

Each diary entry is quite short, fast paced, and very credible. The tone used is the one of a military man: straightforward, no-nonsense, efficient. The whole story is seen from the standpoint of one single person, so don't expect to get any overall view of what's happening in-country or abroad, except in the early sections describing the evolution of the "disease" and through some broken, sporadic conversations on CB or else afterwards.

There is no super-hero, just a growing group of survivors whose ties strengthen in time. Danger, insecurity and tension are omnipresent. Any erroneous decision is paid cash through wounds or, worse, death.

The story is well documented, references to weapons, tactics or aircraft hardware are spot-on. This alone bestows an unmatched level of realism to the book.

Obviously, this book is the opening sequence of a series -hopefully a prolific one!!- and I can't wait to get my hands on the sequels.

A must-read for any serious Zombie fan.

"Day by day Armagedon" (DDA) really captures all the fear of being survivors in a zombie-infested world and even when all hope seems lost human ingenuity will still pull through. Not only that - there are elements of family compassion as seen through the only surviving child of one of the families rescued. Romance is hinted at as well where we left off between the main character and a woman that was rescued. This book will keep you at the edge of your seat and guessing at every turn (of the pages). Definitely a good buy - can't wait for the next one! Hope it comes out in Kindle.
