Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5)

RITA Award-winning author Kresley Cole continues her bestselling Immortals After Dark series with this electrifying tale of a ruthless demon mercenary and the lovely young halfling who enchants him.

A seductive beauty he can
never have, yet can't resist...

Cadeon Woede will stop at nothing to atone for the one wrong that will haunt him forever. But once he secures the key to his redemption, the halfling Holly Ashwin, Cade finds that the woman he thought he could use for his own ends and then forget haunts him as much as his past.

A tormented warrior she
should fear, but can't deny...

Raised as a human, Holly never knew that some frightening legends are real until she encounters a brutal demon who inexplicably guards her like a treasure. Thrust into a sensual new world of myth and power, with him as her protector, she begins to crave the demon's wicked touch.

Surrender to dark desires...

Yet just when he earns Holly's trust, will Cade be forced to betray the only woman who can sate his wildest needs -- and claim his heart?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As a matter of fact, it went by too fast. I had been captivated with Cade since Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night, and I was holding my breath for his book. But the wait was richly rewarded. Holly is a perfect heroine for him. She brings out the protective side in Cade, but also the playful side. And if anyone needs to live a little, it's Holly. I loved the whole plotline and found it wildly romantic. This book was also a good action book with scenes that show that Holly is a powerful woman in her own right. I just adore Cade, even more then I did before. He is sexy beyond belief, and very funny also. I loved his devotion to Holly, and how he challenged her but cared for her at the same time. It was great to see Holly come into the woman she was meant to be. She learns that it is a good thing to trust one's instincts as well as one's intellect. She also learns to acknowledge her sensual nature, and what better teacher than Cade. Cade and Holly had some serious chemistry, but there was also a deep emotional connection. This book just further increased my love of this series. With each book, I more eagerly await more books in the Immortals After Dark series. Kresley Cole's imagination is incredible, teamed with some excellent research. So I end by saying, take this ride wild, but you might want a cold drink and a fan while you read it."

Cadeon is determined to atone for the biggest mistake of his life and will stop at nothing to do this. When he obtaines the key to his redemption, in the form of a halfling by the name of Holly, Cade figures out that the one woman he thought he could use and then discard is haunting him as much as his past mistakes. Holly was raised as a human and never knew that some stories are real. She discovers that demons really do exist and that the brutal demon that begins to lead her on a quest to avoid her transformation to immortality is going to end up with her heart. As she is pushed into the immortal world of legends, with a demon that seems determined to protect her, she starts to enjoy the world around her and the family she never knew existed. Can Cade use Holly to make up for his past mistakes? Or will he keep what he considers his?

***Kresley has done it again. The IMMORTALS AFTER DARK series continues with this tale of a ruthless demon and beautiful halfling. Cade's story was great, almost as good as Bowe's story. I highly recommend this book and I am looking for more in this series. I find it amazing that Kresley's imagination allows her to continue with this series without becoming redundant. I do recommend that you read this series in order so you don't miss out on some good surprises.

I absolutly adore the Immortal After Dark series!!!I've re-read every book at least once, most of them multiple times...especially Conrad & Neomi's story which i found to be exciting and delicious.

Caden Woede was faulted for losing his brother's crown and finally has a chance to get it back. His very last chance. All he needs to do is deliver the vessel(a female from the lore who will produce a child of ultimate good or evil)to a sorcerer.Only one problem...the vessel is his fated female! The story takes you through the internal struggles of Cade as he falls in love with Holly all the while still debating on handing her over to the sorcerer.Meanwhile Holly is stuggling to stay human and ignore her valkyrie nature. She thinks this sorcerer can undo her becoming a Valkyrie and Cadeons the one to take her.

Since reading all the other books in the series, I was excited to get the next book which was about rage demon Cadeon Woede.I loved him in previous books so couldn't wait to buy this one and indulge in another great paranormal romance.

Unfortunatly, Dark Desires After Dusk did not deliver. I found that the plot over all was good but slow and boring. Also, I couldn't really connect with Holly like i did with the heroines of Cole's previous novels, even though i still loved Cade.As well I felt were lacking that special something in the sex scenes that i always seemed to enjoy. Scratch that. I think the book over all was missing that special "something" that makes KC's books great.

All in all I don't regret reading it, though i probably won't re-read it like i do with the other books.I do understand that not all books in a series are always up to par with the series over all and find that in nearly every series I've read there is a "dud" book. So here i hungily wait for the next installment in this incrediable series.

Good road trip.

This is only the second book I have read by Kresley Cole. I read the previous book in this series, DARK NEEDS AT NIGHT'S EDGE before this one so I was introduced to Cade's character. However, I do agree with other reviewers that this book can be read as a standalone. The glossary at the front of the book helps. Could be because I have not read the whole series so the rules of the world do not sound repetitious to me yet.

I have been reading them out of order but will plan to get the first three books as soon as possible to get caught up. It should fill up the time before Rydstrom's story comes out.

Minor irritant...cover art is not accurate. Cadeon is described as blond, not dark haired as on the cover.

'"You're really going to let me drive?"
"Whose car is this?"
"Not ours."
"Good girl."'--page 223
I got an absolute kick out of the play of dialogue between Cadeon and Holly. Like a silly school girl I giggled throughout the book. If I wasn't giggling, I was at least smiling. Cadeon was the epitome of sexy. His bad-boy attitude and no nonsense take no prisoners attitude would turn any girl's head. Yet, he supplimented this with teasing, endearments, and episodes of jealousy that was endearing from the once brooding and self-blaming Woede brother. He easily slipped into the role of mate, providing for Holly things she even didn't know she needed. Holly was not as endearing...her quirks were strange (which only enforced Cadeon's likability since he was not put off by them) and she was too stiff and uncompromising. It was hard to relate to her. Yet, this did not distract from the story, but only led to more antics and interplay between the hero and heroine. Cole definitely used Holly's quirks to her advantage in the story line. Then there was Nucking Futs Nix...Need I say more?

Overall, I adore this series. It has not failed yet in entertaining me and I look forward to the next in the series.

I love her books. This series is my favorite of her work and I hope it keeps on going because I'm always left wanting more. There's adventure, romance, heat, drama and comedy in every book of the "After Dark" series. She has such a wonderful imagination and the characters simply rock. I can't wait to read Nix's story. I love this character and the label, "Nucking Futs" that is used to discribe her. It keeps me laughing every time. She never ever disappoints me.

Cadeon the Kingmaker - King Rydstrom's brother and heir to the throne of the rage demons - has made some mistakes in his 900 year existence. The foremost and by far the worst mistake was made when he was a young man, the day he cost his brother the throne. Instead of defending Tornin, the king's stronghold, Cadeon was instead racing to see to the welfare of his foster family thus allowing his brother's kingdom to be overthrown by Mort the Deathless, an evil sorcerer. And by his very namesake, Mort is deathless. No traditional Lore means of killing - beheading or fire - will ensure his death.

Cadeon, guilt ridden over his betrayal to his kingdom, vows to his brother that he will get Rydstrom's crown back. 900 years later and Cadeon is still trying to make do on his promise. As mercenary, Cadeon has crowned many a king, hence his title - the Kingmaker, but he always seems to fail with his original vow to his brother. But fate has bestowed upon the brothers of the Woede, a chance. All that Cadeon and Rydstrom must do is find the Vessel, a female of the Lore that will birth a child of either ultimate evil or good. Groot the Metallurgist, Mort's brother, requests the Vessel and in return he will forge a sword that will kill Mort the Deathless.

Unfortunately for Cade, fate can never be kind without exacting a price. The Vessel just so happens to be Cade's mate, Holly Ashwin - a human forbidden to his kind, whom he has been keeping watch over for the past year. Demons may recognize their mate but they won't know for sure until they attempt, in other words, have sex with them. During this process a demon will turn into his demonic form - which is huge; their skin color changes and their horns straighten. They also bite the female between the neck and shoulder, injecting with their fangs a stunning agent the immobilizes her. Humans by nature cannot withstand the attempt without possible death, therefore Cade must resign himself to the fact that he and Holly can never be together. Cadeon uses this resignation to force himself into accepting the job of collecting Holly and delivering her to Groot thereby retrieving the desired sword.

Holly Ashwin has issues. Suffering from acute OCD and mild agoraphobia, Holly can only feel comfortable in either her loft or the college campus where she is simultaneously completing her doctorate and teaching. In order to focus, everything around her must be organized in three or multiples of. In addition, Holly will only eat prepacked food where no human transference has taken place. Lastly, Holly has sexual issues. She's a twenty-six year old virgin but not for lack of trying. Unfortunately Holly has scared off the two males that she attempted to have sex with. Both times she became wild, uncontrollable even, to the point where the possibility of injuring the man was very real. So Holly has abstained. She does currently have a boyfriend, Tim, of two years. It is definitely a cerebral relationship as opposed to a physical one but the two do plan to get married. This plan however is officially halted when she is abducted by demons, struck by lightening, and thereby resurrecting her Valkyrie genes from dormancy.

Cadeon is just as surprised to see Holly with her signature Valkyrie silver eyes and sharp claws. But he still sticks with his original deal to take her to Groot. Holly, suspicious by nature is wary of trusting the hot demon but all she wants is to go back to her organized old life and when Cade dangles the opportunity to remain a mortal, she jumps at the chance. Cade tells her that Groot can stop the transformation (a complete lie) and since he is already on his way to meet with the sorcerer he'll take her along with him.

What follows is a steady unfolding of passion between Cadeon and Holly. Although the two couldn't be more different, their attraction is undeniable.

Although not my favorite adddition to the Immortals After Dark series, it was still a worthwhile and fun read. One thing I am looking forward to is Rydstrom's book, 'To Kiss a Demon King' which comes out in January 2009. There is a major life altering event that happens to Rydstrom in 'Dark Desires After Dusk' and he seems a totally different demon by the end. Exciting!

Cadeon Woede is a rage demon who holds the occupation of mercenary. He is desperate to help put his brother back on the throne that rightfully belongs to him, and it's because of Cadeon that his brother doesn't have the throne to begin with. It has been 900 years of struggles for Cade to try and defeat Omort and return the throne to his brother.
A year ago Cade ran across Holly Ashwin which he realizes is his female, the one he is supposed to spend forever with, yet she is a mortal, and an immortal like himself cannot claim a mortal as their own, the initial claiming would undoubtably kill the mortal.
Holly is a professor at a local college near her home. She is obsessive with order and perfection. She is highly dependent on her medications perscribed to her for being OCD. She was adopted and all in all has led a very boring life until she is kidnapped one night in her college classroom. Her life soon becomes very complicated but none the less an excitement she never expected, and she definitely did not expect to find herself attracted to the very unusual rage demon.

Cade and Holly's story is definitely unique and different. I found it to be quite different from A Hunger Like No Other, which is Book 1 in the Immortals After Dark series, and I have to admit that I was kind of dissapointed in Dark Desires After Dusk. It is a good story but it definitely isn't one that I love or would ever consider reading again. I have not read any of the other books in the series, but in comparison to A Hunger Like No Other I found myself somewhat dissapointed. This book lacked the passion that the first in the series did not.

I love Kresley Cole and her Immortals After Dark series. I LOVED Conrad's and Neomi's story but Dark Desires after Dusk was sooooo boring. I couldn't even read it. I read the first 5 chapters and skipped to the last 3 chapters, skimming the rest. While the other stories gripped me, this one was so uninteresting and I can't figure out why. Don't waste your money, get it from the library first then buy it if so inclined. Hopefully the next entry will be better. I'm giving it 2 stars becuase it is Kresley Cole. And Nucking Futs Nix was funny!

I agree with the other "meh" review. This one isn't as good as Kresley's others...in my opinion..even though it is in the minority here. Sometimes I think people who dislike a book, just don't take time to write a review so sometimes the ratings are skewed a bit...

You know how sometimes you read a great book and you feel as though the characters are visiting and you don't want them to leave....well, I had Cade's and Holly's bags packed the minute I finished the book (which I had to make myself do)...

Not very strong back story, diluted dialogue, characters I couldn't really bond with, too agonizing slow, too much descriptive "wanting" of each other controlling the pace....

I'll definitely be waiting for the next one though....there is always one book in a series that isn't the strongest..

So long Holly and Cade...

I have been reading romance novels since I was 15, so a good 20 years now. In my mind nothing like a cup of tea and a good romance novel to escape and unwind at the end of a day.
Just to give a sample of my taste, other authors I enjoy are: Jen Holling, Connie Brockway, Johanna Lindsey, Julie Garwood, Christina Dodd, just to name a few.

This entire series is such a page turner. I had a hard time putting any of the titles down. More evenings than I care to admit I stayed up way to late "just to read one more chapter".

You can feel from the beginning how Cade yearns for Holly. It's like a love that can never work... until fate if you will throws a curve and maybe just maybe there is a chance. Of course first he has to figure out how to trick the the crazy crafty wizard, get the sword and still keep his true love. Hum... well all in a days work. I wanted Cade to find love after reading about him in Wicked Deeds on a Winters Night. I was happy to see him getting his own story and to see that it was a human of all things that first caught his eye. Very great story. At the end I cried for Holly. That feeling of utter betrayal she was feeling really just jumped off the page at you. Great great read!

I enjoyed the glimpse of supporting characters so you felt that any of them would be enjoyable to read about in their own series. I'd love to see crazy Nix find love of her own LOl. The entire series is fast and there is not a lot of review of what happened in a prior book. You open the book and off you go. These are not slow moving. I laughed, I cried, I blushed. Boy Ms. Cole writes some steamy scenes. Wow! And I am amazed that nothing repeats. Each book is so different, the plots are so different and the way the main characters relate is so different. Yes they do all have hansom men and lovely ladies. But the dynamic relationship between the main characters is simply fire from page 1 to the end. Out of all my years reading romance. I have never read modern romance before. I can say without a doubt that these are the best romance books I have read and that is truly saying a lot considering how many authors works sit on my shelf.

I love both lead characters Cadeon and Holly, and the author gives them enough dimensions to be strong. Their courtship and relationship is sweet and steamy. Never would have thought horns were sexy, but this book changed that, and the love scenes are great. I also love how Cadeon is the more thoughtful and caring character, while Holly is learning to be a warrior; a fun play on how the opposite sides of them are coming out.
I thought the ending was a bit rushed. The importance of her being a Vessel seemed kind of dropped.
Spoiler ahead:

Don't really understand what impact her child would have in the Lore.

Cadeon Wode is a demon - a good guy though- who happens to have promised a few things he can't deliver to a few people he absolutely can't let down. It was through his own unfortunate actions that his brothers throne was lost a few centuries ago and their people, not to mention his brother, have been suffering ever since. So his very last chance for redemption is to simply deliver a woman, the magical female who has been prophesied to be the mother of a warrior that could change the course of the entire supernatural world to a crazy evil mage in exchange for a sword guaranteed to slay his enemy.

The problem: she's the one woman fate and destiny have been waiting for him not to be able to resist. In fact she's the only mate he could ever possibly have, and betraying her would basically destroy both their lives.

Since he's been stalking her for months it's relatively easy to get to her- you know besides that have dozen cult guys he has to take out. But protecting her and making her see that she loves him will be the hard parts. Especially when he's trying not to hurt her or his brother and he can't have it all...or can he?

This was another great installment of a near perfect series. I wasn't quite as thrilled with the ending on this one since it seemed a tad rushed but it's a very memorable book I highly recommend.

This book is about making the right choice. Gamble wrong and you loose everything - Gamble right and you win everything. Cade is a rage demon that has been looking for his mate for over 900 hundred years. When he finally finds Holly he is 99% sure she is his life mate but it turns out she is human and he can never have her (so he thinks). Over these same 900 years Cade has been trying to help his brother win back his crown/kindom. Which will help Cade regain his brother's faith in him and remove the shame placed on him for causing his brother to loose his crown.

This is a wonderfully written story about choices, love (with steamy scenes), and honor. I enjoy the cat and mouse games that Cade and Holly play as the get to know one another. I also like how Cade and Holly play on an intellectual level. I think this book had a lot of seduction however, I would have ejoyed a few more hot demon love scenes. This book also has some of my favorite characters re-surface like Nix and Reign. This book will definitely keep you entertained and interested.

Cadeon and Holly worked. Holly got on my nerves at first. But, she drastically improved once she accepted the Turn. Cadeon was a screw-up that got it right. Really right. I didn't really, so much, blame him for losing Rydstrom's Judgmental butt his Kingdom, or killing Neomi. He was a lot to handle. And Holly was wonderful at handling him. I cheered when he kill Groot. Next that A-hole Omort. Go Rydstrom!

I didn't care for this book as much as the others. The main characters weren't very likable. Cade willing to trade his mate and Holly willing to cheat on her boyfriend, didn't make the usual happy couple. The story was long and Holly and her problems quickly became tiresome. Cade lied the entire time and traded her for a sword. In the end Holly forgives him way to quickly.

Kresley Cole has managed to deliver another spectacular book. I started with the first book Hunger like No Other, and was totally hooked from there. She is currently my favorite author.
Anyway, to the specifics of the book.
Cade has been an intriguing character for a couple books now and it is great to get to know him. I also like the development of Holly. The best thing Ms. Cole does is character development. I like that she makes them something other, while at the same time giving them fun quirks, great personalities and deep emotions, therefore helping us relate to them.
The other thing I love about her books is the fast pace of the story. This one was true to that theme taking off in chapter one and not letting me put my book down until the last page. And the only reason I put it down then is because I'm out of pages. The next story has already been set up and I cannot wait to read Cade's brother's story.

I basically stumbled onto author Kresley Cole over here at Amazon. A few of my fellow supernatural romance lovers recommended her first book in the Immortals After Dark series -- and after coming off of a JR Ward high -- I was willing to try something new -- anything.

Was I pleasantly surprised.

Dark Desires After Dusk is another great mixture of supernatural characters, action, suspense, romance, and a great alpha main character. I loved the plot in this one - and it made for great intense reading one Saturday night.

I even skipped dinner and had my hubby go out for take-out!

Bottom line -- you don't need me to reiterate the plot details for you about this book, just get it! In fact grab the whole series. This is one author who never disappoints.

OMG!!! This book was great. Kresley writes the best stories with the best characters. Her male characters are the stuff of our best dark dreams. I couldn't even imagine guys his cool or this hot. The love scenes make me want to jump my husband so he gets a bonus from these stories too. I can't wait for the next books. I'm hooked.

I've been reading this series in the hopes of finding another in this genre that is as good as Sherrilyn Kenyon's. So far, no gold. I'm not saying that these books are bad, but they just don't move me emotionally. Whereas I read Kenyon's books over & over, I don't think I'll ever read any of The Immortals more than once. They're an entertaining read, but I don't connect with the characters on more than the level of mild interest. The background of this series is very entertaining with the whole angle of The Lore & all the Immortals battling back & forth & interacting, but their romances are just not working for me. I'd rather read these books with the story focused on the machinations & political maneuverings of the various Immortal groups rather than going through the whole hackneyed thing where a tortured alpha male finds his true love & she redeems him in spite of herself. The sex scenes aren't entrancing or romantic in any of these books--they read more like something from Penthouse's letters section. I think less graphic sex and more emotional involvement might be the key. So, with this book I once again enjoyed the stuff going on around the hero & heroine, but didn't connect with them much and didn't much care if they ever got together. So I'd say to go ahead and read it and then donate it to the library's book sale if you didn't buy it there in the first place.

I love Kresley Cole's books. But, for me, Dark Desires After Dusk, was a miss. Her writing seemed mediocre...none of those spine-tingeling, beautiful sentences. And I didn't like or respect the leads. Cade was CRUDE and conceited, which I think was supposed to translate into charming, but failed miserably. I enjoyed Holly's quirks, but found her indecisive to an annoying degree and despised her lack of moral character. She "cheated" with Cade and justified it to herself that she was just using him for the experience. Ick ~ can't stand this type of behavior from any gender! The intimacy was way too pornlike for me and lacked tenderness or romance. I will buy Kresley's next book and look forward to Rydstrom's story in particular. But Dark Desires after Dusk will not be staying in my keeper pile.

I loved this book! I loved all of Ms Cole's IAD books... what I like about her Loreverse is that there are so many different combinations of species she could come up with to keep her series fresh and interesting. Other series tend to stagnate after the first four or five books because it becomes the same old same old (oh look another vampire/human combo... or vampire/vampire. Meh, it gets really old after a while)but with IAD she switches her couple combos up and it keeps her stories fun, fresh and fabulous. So far we've had a werewolf/halfling vampkyrie combo, witch/werewolf, vampire/valkyrie, vampire/ghost, demon/halfling humankyrie... no two have been the same and as a result we've had the freshest, most entertaining series I've read in a while.

DDAD is one of my favourites in the series (my absolute fave still being the first... who am I kidding? They're all right up there in my "keeper" collection). A simply unputdownable, action-packed, hilarious, rollicking good fun, sexy romp of a book. Cade is a delicious, wonderfully flawed hero (loved his accent too, being a Sith Ifrican myself) and I was cheering for Holly all the way. I absolutely loved the way she faced up to her fears and flaws. The proverbial odd couple, who would have thought they'd be such a perfect match?!

Kresley Cole is a genius and I love the way she whets our appetites with glimpses into other characters' lives (Rydstrom and the final Wroth brother leap to mind. I cannot WAIT to read their stories). Just tantalizing glimpses, they're not forcibly rammed down our throats as a certain other author I recently reviewed, did with characters in her latest book.

I am looking forward to Ms Cole's next installment in this riveting series. Keep 'em coming.

I've read all of Kresley Cole's books, and once again she delivers great material that is true to the genre. Dark Desires is a slight change of pace for her as we have her first demon book of the series - and what a great addition it is! Both Cade and Holly's personalities are well-developed and their relationship is well written. Those readers that enjoy great character development along with action and humor will appreciate Ms Cole's newest addition to her sexy IAD series.

I loved this novel!!! The demon Cadeon was the bomb. I think It is one of the best in her demon series!!!! I also loved the real life OCD that Holly had because she was part Valkyrie and did not know it. The romance side was fun and interesting:) Nix line about licking Cadeon horns was delicious:)

Antihero of Cole's predecessor novels "Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night" and "Dark Needs at Night's Edge, Cadeon Woede, is paired with Cole's most ambitious female lead yet -- a Ph.D. hopeful and Valkyrie, Holly Ashwin. Sexy and entertaining, the book is sure to please both Cole's old fans and neophytes to "Immortals After Dark".

Holly, obsessive-compulsive and tight-laced, hardly seems the sort to draw supernatural lightning or demon mating rituals, but draw them she does -- along with demon male Cadeon, whom she finds is able to explain the complicated mess her life has just become.

What she doesn't know is that she's the demon's fated soulmate -- and the prize her must sacrifice to regain his honor and right centuries-old wrongs.

Holly is the "Vessel", a preternatural female whose child will either be the supreme warrior for light or darkness, depending on the leanings of the child's father. A hot commodity and budding warrior in her own right, she makes a good target for Cade's protection -- at least until he can use her to his own ends. Already smitten with her from before the book begins, he's finally able to reveal himself to her when she realizes her own supernatural nature -- and ends up falling in love with her.

The plot seemed a bit stretched in this installment in "Immortals After Dark". It wasn't bad, so to speak, but it didn't have any real twists to speak of, and while I liked the characters, Holly's reactions to certain events are rather petty for a newly-turned Valkyrie and all-but-mathematical-genius. While one can accept she's a little less than emotionally mature due to circumstances beyond her control, she's still a bit vapid and also a little too forgiving. I'd also like to learn more of Cade's tantalizing past -- as well as that of villain Groot.

Still -- hot! And a fun read.

7.0/10

Great writing, even if the plot and romance developed a little slower than Cole's earlier work, but Holly Ashwin was too hard to care about. I really could see why her demon was willing to turn her over for a good portion of the book.
The fact that she didn't care about her unborn child becuase Cade was a jerk just underlined how shallow the character was.

Move over LKH, JRW and so many others. Kresley Cole is without a doubt the best paranormal romance author. Her stories are fast paced, funny, heart-breaking and always leaves you completely satisfied. I could not imagine how she would ever be able to find a mate for Cade, but Holly was perfect. I loved the entire book. I read through it so fast the first time, I had to go back and read it again. Loved it even more the second time. I can't hardly wait for the next installment in this great series.

(Hide Review...)  Good....but lacking a certain spark
Reviewer Permalink
Let me start out by saying that Dark Desires After Dusk is a fairly good book. It is funny and witty...but it just lacked a certain spark. It is not as good as her former books. If I could tell you what it lacked, I would, but I cannot seem to articulate the "something" that is missing. I believe that the problem lies in the hero and heroine. The heroine really got on my nerves at times. It felt like one long playing-hard-to-get scenario. It was him trying to cop a feel every other minute and her acting like she did not want him. Maybe that was the problem.

My advice: definitely read the book yourself and see how you like it! Judging from the numerous 5 star reviews, even a not-so-good KC book is still pretty good...LOL.

Ok. I had said I was going to save this for my trip over seas- I have NO willpower. Needless to say this book was AMAZING! I'm chomping at the bit to find out what happens next!

Cade is a fantastic demon character, probably one of the best ones I have seen written ever. Rydstrom, OMG I have to KNOW whats going on with him! I hate when stuff is hinted at!

Holly is an unusual character that you really do fall in love with despite her insane quirks. Its awesome that theres now a fantastic hero...

The story was amazing, the returning characters always make me smile and I'm waiting with baited breath for the next in this series.

Cade and Holly make a super sexy couple! The story was fast paced, passionate and really exciting. Holly is a nerdy ultra intelligent woman trying to live a low key boring life. Cade is a rugged demon mercenary that has recognized Holly as his mate but thinks that he can't have her since she is a mortal woman. Circumstances bring them together and intertwine their lives. Holly is not what she seems and Cade is forced to make some very serious decisions about his future with her.

O! Not So Good...I love KC but this book for me was definitely not finger lickin good. I wondered why this book 5 came out so quickly after 4.

I know why now! If you are a KC fan defintitely read it. But what I love Kresley for is

1.Her great wit, and I usually hate the "Joke-a-minute-kick-the-males-butt-with-banter-heroin" but she is actually FUNNY without taking from the story/plot.
And soo creative with words and popular culture. I love Nucking Futs Nix!

This book. Too much "funny" banter not enough story.
It's cute and unique how Holly has OCD but the joke
gets stale. Quick.

2. I know I know...I am the odd woman out on this one, but I really don't like the sex scenes. I know it is the popular "chick" thing and authors HAVE to include them and if you like them You Go Girl! But I have been reading romance novels "bodice rippers" since I was 14 and there is just so much you can say about an act that is as old as time.

This book is all about the foreplay. Not graphic just he sees her cute butt, smells her hair...she sees his demon horns blah blah through the whole book!!!!!!!!!!! The story and plot is that she "thinks he's cute and he thinks she's cute and when are we gonna do it" And it's not the backstory. It is the story.

3. I love KC's take on the Lore and all it's inhabitants.
Their way of life etc. She is so imaginative. I thought book 4 was really good, but the stories of book 2 and 3 with the Talisman's High were just great.

They had it all. Romance, story and wit. All balanced out. I love romance but I still want a story. This one barely has it. I was hoping with such an imaginative mind and all the possibilities of The Lore her books would only get better. I suspect publishers are pushing her to
"churn it out". But I love KC so I would read it, just don't expect much.

This book was right up there with "A Hunger Like No Other". Cade and Holly were an unlikely pair - at first I thought Cade could do better, but then Holly really proved herself and I couldn't help but like her. (Although I don't know how she was able to act indifferent to Cade!)

I loved, loved, loved Cade. Perfect hero. Sexy as hell, funny, and a closet romantic who will do anything for his female.

I liked the road trip storyline, it made their getting to know each other/falling in love believeable. You learn a lot about a person very quickly when you're confined in a small space for hours like that!

I cannot recommend this book highly enough - my only gripe is that it ended too soon!

Well, I would never have thought I could get all hot and bothered over a demon and his horns, but Kresley Cole has done it again by writing another book with a very sexy hero, Cade. I also thought it was an interesting take on Holly, the heroine, in regard to her OCD behavior (a way the woman coped with unknowingly being a Valkyrie). The plot was fast paced leading to further developments in Cade's quest to reclaim his brother's lost throne, and taking us ever closer the the Accession. Like other readers, I too found it difficult to put this book down once I started reading it --even rearranging my work schedule to accommodate finishing in one day. Oh, and this was actually the first romance book that I truly enjoyed staring at the cover. Too bad he didn't have the horns. . .

This was my first disappointment from The Immortals Series. I never really connected with the lead characters Cadeon, and Holly. The story plodded along slowly with Cade finding out his forbidden mortal was the long awaited Vessel that would be impregnated and bring either a warrior of ultimate evil or good into the world. Woo Hoo now he can claim his female right? Wrong, only problem is he's promised his brother to trade her for a sword that will kill his enemy and reclaim his throne. So Cade begins the journey with Holly(who is turning into a Valkyrie)to the secret location to make the trade of which she is ignorant. He's actually going to make the trade until the last short leg of the journey then he figures out he can't do such an awful thing to his female. I think the fact that he could even contemplate turning over his mate is what turned me off this book. I like a strong Alpha male and Cade wasn't up to par in this book. Holly whined alot and in general was annoying to read. It actually took me an entire week to read this book when I can usually get through a Kresley Cole in under two days. Hopefully the next installation harkens back to it's roots of alpha males and strong heroines if not...onto a different series.
