The book is informative, but well padded to yield "book length". If properly edited its contents should be 50 pages. One example: often chapters conclude with a glossary of terms, and at the end of the book is a comprehensive glossary.

Good book if you are just starting out, otherwise very basic. If you are experienced in web marketing and looking for more advanced information, I would not recommend. Found this a waste of money.

This is my first review on Amazon. I recently purchased the book Advertise, Promote and Market Your Business or Website by Bruce C. Brown. As a professional artist, my chosen profession is extremely competitive and I've found many artists who have been running successful businesses for many years, which puts a new artist at a big disadvantage. I found this book very user friendly for someone who doesn't have a degree/experience in marketing or seo, but needs to become more marketing and internet savvy.
My favorite sections are: Generating More Trafic to Your Website Search Engine Optimization I found many helpful tips in these two sections. The only suggestion I would make for improving the book would be more resources added and many more case studies. Any comments or critiiques of this review are welcome via email from my website. My mother does a lot of research online and is a very active member of places like YouTube, etc. She's been interested in marketing some of her own creative work online and this seemed to be the perfect guide. Although she has found out some of the info contained in this book on her own, this organizes the info all in one place and makes it easily accessible. She seemed very pleased with the book and says it will make her online life much easier.

If you want to know how to do EVERYTHING to promote and market your business site..........the way it was done about 2 years ago, and in a condensed (and inadequate) way, this is the book for you.
Nothing is spelled in detail, nothing is probed deeply. Only a few hints all over the book. He does not even offer a list of useful links, the only links that he offer are for sites like Paypal or similar. Now, you tell me, would you buy this book to receive the advice that Paypal is the premier payments processing company in America? Don't we ALL know that? This is the kind of advice you receive from this book. Useless, outdated, miser. Not a REAL list of useful links, not even one juicy tip from the insiders, nothing. It tells, over and over again, things that you already know very well, and that do not work in the Internet environment of today. It tells those concepts in a watered down way, with no attention to the reader's mind. The reader might have an inner dialogue (and the Author should anticipate that)with many questions and unresolved dilemmas. He leaves everything just this way: unanswered, unresolved. I regret to have bought this book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-15 07:41:13 EST)

A well written very informative book, very helpful for someone just starting out. For myself I didn't find a whole lot of new information but I would have loved to have read this when I was first setting up my website.

The author has a good no-nonsense presentation style that doesn't overwhelm you with jargon.
While the information is, for the most part, laid out in an easy to follow, linear style. My only complaints: He starts out in chapter one diving right into technical details about digital certificates, web hosting, shopping carts and so on. I would recommend that the current chapter 2 be moved into the chapter 1 location, while the current chapter 1 becomes chapter 2. This would enable the reader to get a good dose of the foundational material before proceeding to the gory technical details. However, don't let that put you off buying it. Bruce Brown has great communication skills, and is able to break the material down Romper Room style so that anyone should be able to understand. Yet, he doesn't just gloss over the details, he just makes them easier for a layman to understand. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-19 07:46:23 EST)

I have been in the internet marketing scene for many years and I wish I had this book when I was just starting out. It would have cut my learning curve down a bit.
Having said that, the book does contain a lot of information that if you HAVE been doing this a while, you may find a bit elementary. It's still a very good read and very informative. It's a great addition to your internet marketing library. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-21 02:34:33 EST)

Brief synposis: great title (that alone will sell the book), but poor content. I question the credibility of the author based on the source citations and lack thereof. This is not a comprehensive treatment of the subject by any means. In my opinion, this is no more than a "plog": a print-based blog. My copy hit the recycle bin after a quick reading.

I was disappointed with the content of this book. I am an absolute beginner when it comes to web-based business, and my intent was to learn all I could before launching my website. At times, the author wrote for a reader in terms so basic as to not be helpful on the topic (essentially, `marketing is important because it will increase your web presence and this is good and important because it can increase your sales and because more people will know about you' type of thing. Well, we know that--that`s why we bought the book!); then, at other times, the information was confounding, ostensibly written for a far more sophisticated reader (discussion on various website tags in HTML creation--huh?). The former (along with considerable repetition of these basic concepts) would likely bore those with any knowledge at all; the latter would likely exasperate the unseasoned website creator, raising more questions than the text offered answers to. Unfortunately, I fell in the middle of the spectrum of these two groups and often found myself bored and exasperated. The book itself could have been much, much shorter without removing any key information. Ironically, in his section on website automation, the author offers advice he fails to follow in his own work, among many others: be concise and to the point; don't make it longer than needed; answer all questions. These were my major quarrels with this book.
That being said, I cannot say I did not receive benefit from the reading. The author presents good ideas which might otherwise be overlooked, as well as providing websites to assist the e-business creator with various tasks and functions. Additionally, the author remains aware of the fact throughout that many small business owners do not have limitless budgets, and he is generous in his offering of websites where the reader can go to find free or low-cost assistance. If there are places the discussions fall short, at least the reader is now alerted that certain elements deserve attention, and can then seek alternative sources of information on point. As it appears the shipper was also the publisher, I want to say that I was extremely satisfied with the purchase process from this company. The book arrived very fast, was in perfect condition, and the company took the time and effort to check on my satisfaction without delay. I was very pleased, and, therefore, would have no problem ordering from this publisher again. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-27 11:10:10 EST)

If you're an entrepreneur or small business starting up a B2C e-commerce Web site, this book can be your guide, at least to a degree. There's lots of fantastic advice on--
1.The best technical options for programming your site. 2.How affiliate advertising works and how to set it up. 3.Search engine optimization strategy and techniques. 4.Banner advertising. 5.How to use eBay to maximum advantage. Other areas, however, receive little attention. While there are about 20 pages on banner ads, there's only 10 on branding, which is a critically important start-up issue. Completely absent is any discussion of business blogs, podcasting and social networking--options to be considered for any start-up marketing plan. With all that in mind, readers might find The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to Use News Releases, Blogs, Podcasting, Viral Marketing and Online Media to Reach Buyers Directlya good companion book to this one. i was surprised that i actually enjoyed the book. i got it mainly because i wanted to read something light. and it is a very light read. but i must be fair this book gives some great ideas and tools for people that want to take there first steps in promoting there on line adventures. and mainly more about what to talk about when i talk with customers more then how to do it.
summery : read the book but don't live the book i would read much more things but its a good place to start and after you get a beginners overview go for more advanced books. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-07 07:53:39 EST)

While the information in this book is accurate, it's an extremely high-level overview of the topic. As such, I can't imagine that anybody who actually already has a business and does any online marketing at all would get much out of this book. Also, parts of it seem to be in desperate need of update. For instance the continual use of the term "e-zine" just screams late 90s. Perhaps give the book a try if you are an absolute novice to the field, but even then I'd be inclined to say you could find something better.

I tried my very best to give this book the benefit of the doubt, but I was extremely dissapointed. The subject matter is not appealing to me, however this book did not help matters. In fact, for those of you with sleep disorders, I highly recommend this book as a remedy to your problem. This will have you dosing off in an instant.
Unfortunately, this is one of the poorest books I have encountered in my career. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-05-21 09:05:36 EST)

Bruce takes us through all the necessary points to get a website on track to benefit from traffic that can be resourced for little to nothing.
If you have a site that is sitting dormant, this is your book. I found many basic tips which people may not know how to search for. It's all written out here in this guide. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-12 07:59:21 EST)

The majority of the information contained in this book can easily be found by doing several web searches for various topics. That being said, I appreciate the ease of being able to browse through this book for the information instead of searching for information which may or may not be valid.
Within these pages you will find sections on everything from setting up an affiliate program to using banner ads and Google AdWords for your site. You will also find an extensive list of terms and abbreviations common to the e-commerce industry. Although a bit of a dry read, I finished the entire book in the space of two days on vacation. In the process of reading, several creative marketing ideas popped into my head, so I definitely have the author to thank for that! In the end, I am giving this book 4 stars for two reasons: 1) He repeats a lot of information, as if trying to stretch out his word count to meet his deadline. 2) Some of the chapters read like an advertise for companies that he either owns or is otherwise related to. However, beyond those two points of contention, I highly recommend this book as a starting point for anyone who is just starting out in the e-commerce or just needs a little refresher course. Whether you are a newcomer to the Internet or you have your own business already, this book by Bruce C. Brown is a fantastic read. When I started to read it, I almost could not put it down again. While this may sound strange to people believing that only novels can provide that reaction, this particular Computer and Business geek get that same feeling from a book providing a clear learning and business value.
"How to Use the Internet" is a book that if you read it closely and follow its advise, it will likely pay itself back many-fold. My library is scattered in multiple rooms, but this is one book that currently have a position of honor in the hands-on collection right next to my desk. Both an interesting read and a good reference book for later use. The topics covered are good for both pure e-commerce business owners (or wannabees), and for people that more specifically target making money from an information base on the internet. E-commerce, Internet advertising, traffic generation in general is covered, as well as more Geek minded topics. Topics such as Search engine optimization, the importance of Meta Tags and Keyword settings, banner advertising, and even potentially using such offerings as Google Adwords(tm) and Google Adsense(tm). I personally believe, that this is one possible good avenue for expansion in a future edition of the book. It would be good for people starting out to know more about the gotchas in using for example Adwords. How the Pay-per-click business works, and the dangers of overspending with sometimes very little ROI. All depending on the business you are in of course. But competing with the big guys can end up being very expensive. This is one book that already has a worn look and a lot of donkeys ears to remind me of important areas. I give this book a vote of 5 out of 5 geeks. Good work Bruce. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-03 10:44:40 EST)

This book is easy to understand overall, easy to read. It's loaded with information and actual URLs of web sites to go to and recommendations etc. It does live up to its title but personally (and I do mean personally) that there's nothing much I can get from the book as most of them are available on the internet and information which I already know or have seen before. It may still be a good read for an absolute beginners.

Operating a business and Web site myself, I wish this book had been available when I was laying the groundwork for those enterprises. Like any good business guide, the book offers helpful, thorough, up-to-date advice without wasting readers' time. Brown places a premium on suggesting very effective strategies that cost little or no money. That alone makes the book worth purchasing!
In particular, the author uses sixteen chapters to cover the fundamental steps of registering a domain name, selling ad space, marketing the Web site, and dealing with important laws and regulations. Very helpful is the author's occasional overviews of how a certain marketing practice--such as banner ads--might evolve in the future. For anyone with a bricks-and-mortar business looking to build a Web presence, or for anyone wanting to build a Web-only business, this book is definitely for you! The information in this book is way too general. I expected specific examples of places to advertise a website for little or no money & instead it was just broad information that can be found by reading seo newsletters that are published all over the internet for free. There was no information in this book that was worth spending the money on. It wasn't a bad book at all, it just was not what i expected and did not give the information i thought it would have based on the books title.

Bruce C. Brown does an excellent job of showing even newcomers the ins and outs of Internet Marketing. Written almost like a textbook it is clear and dynamic in walking one through the paces of Website promotion. I could hardly wait to stop reading it to implement the ideas for my own website.
To me it is Book II in the study of E-Business website development. "Internet Riches" by Scott Fox is Book I, a terrific resource for helping you define and launch your Internet business with great brainstorming ideas, strategies and real life entrepreneurial examples. Brown's book takes you the rest of the way to today's best route to wealth and Internet Riches. Taken together the reader is well grounded on theory and strategy for the pursuit of the American dream. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-02-22 03:24:20 EST)

If you want one book to tell you what you need to know about marketing your business or website online, this title is one you should look at. With a lot of information packed into the 276 pages, this could be the only volume you need to get your business noticed on the internet.
One thing that is beneficial about this book is that it gives you effective definitions for a lot of online, internet jargon. With overviews of search engine optimization, pay per click advertising, and affiliate programs, you will be sure to know more about the internet when you are done with this title. This book also includes a short chapter on eBay and how to create a storefront on the popular auction site. With bulleted and numbered lists, an extensive glossary, and websites you can use for resources, this title would make a great addition to the library of any would-be entrepreneur. It would fit well on the shelf at public and academic libraries, as well. After reading this book, I plan to place a copy in my own personal library! I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
