Dear Reader,
I'm living a life I couldn't even have dreamed of a few years ago. I'm married to Bobby Polgar now (you know, the famous chess champion who just happens to be the man I love!). And we've got this beautiful house with a view of Puget Sound.
Lately something's been worrying Bobby, though. When I asked, he said he was 'protecting his queen' and I got the oddest feeling he wasn't talking about chess but about me. He wouldn't say anything else.
Do you remember Get Nailed, the beauty salon in Cedar Cove? I still work there. I'll tell you about my friend Rachel, who's got two men interested in her (count 'em, two). And I'll let you in on what I've heard about Linnette McAfee, who left town when her love life fell apart. (That kind of trouble I know all about.) Come in soon for a manicure and a chat, okay?
Teri ( Miller) Polgar

I enjoyed it very much. Her books are very clean (language & morals) and I can pass them on to my daughters. She has lots of different stories going on. Each chapter tells a story about a different charactor, and they all come together at the end. Her books come in a series acording to the address. (Lowest number first.)

I've read all Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cross novels and after six books, the series usually falls stale, but that isn't the case with book seven. Bobby Polgar's wife is threatened with death if her husband competes in theupcoming chess match. But the main storyline is only skimming the surface. As usual, the side plots are well drawn out and add spice to the series and makes you wait for book 8.

The worst part about this book is waiting for the next one. I love Cedar Cove. It's like visiting with friends or catching up on family. It is also easy to read when you have a hectic life and can only read in short time spans. I think each book gets better, but I found the whole Russian evil chess player story a little out of place in the series. Don't get me wrong, it didn't slow down my reading.
I love all Debbie Macomber's series and books. But this series is the best and warmest by far. I hope it never ends. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-10 02:16:01 EST)

I went into the romance department of the bookstore and picked out this book. This is my first (and probably last) novel by this writer. It just simply wasn't what I was looking for in a summer read. For me, I wasn't really interested in these characters. I didn't find myself wanting to know more and some of the characters were too similar and the women seemed to have confidence issues.

It won't be my last either! At first I had trouble who was who etc. But after awhile I caught on and I couldn't put it down. I loved all the characters and I can't wait to get my hands on all the previous books and the newest one. Debbie writes with such a style that has you begging for more. Maybe it does seem a little too gossipy but I loved it and heck it was enjoyable. Debbie writes so well I didn't notice I just couldn't get enough!! I loved so many of the characters I couldn't even begin to think who was my favorite. What I like most is she doesn't have to use filthy language and dirty scenes for it to be enjoyable, which is hard in this world today. I am finding it harder and harder to escape these days so I will take it when I can get it! Thanks Ms. Macomber!! Keep on writing! :) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-25 02:12:44 EST)

I have read the entire series and will read No. Eight that is coming out as a library book. I won't pay for it because I am not sure it will be great. I loved the books from the beginning especially the first four but the last ones are not nearly as engaging. The seventh one was somewhat silly and unbelievable. A chess master and a beautician? THe premise is rather unlikely and I did not care for her quirky family - rather trashy. I would skip it.

The best part is how fast I got the book. When I ordered 204 Rosewood Ln from someone else because you didn't have it, it took forever, so I won't be doing that again.

I didn't think I would go on, but I found book 7 better in story content than book 6. I am looking forward to book 8 as there were some things left unresolved in this last one.
I would recommend to Debbie, however, that she not add any more people to her cast of characters. Even with the cheat list in the front to refresh our memories, there are just too many and a new reader would find it frustrating. Less is more. I still like her writing and look forward to the Christmas book in Cedar Cove. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-09 00:01:57 EST)

I LOVE the Cedar Cove series and I am waiting anxiously for the 8th book! I started reading this series when I came across the 5th book in the grocery store and I was so engrossed in the characters and have a personal connection to the location, that I went online to Amazon and bought the first 4 books and then waited for the 6th and 7th book to be released. I don't want the story to end, it would be like moving away from people you love!

Would not recommend this book as a stand alone. But if you've read the rest of the books in the series (as I have) then it's good enough. As in previous books in the Cedar Cove series there are unresolved issues that will be addressed in the next installment.

I loved the four first books in the Cedar Cove series. The fifth and sixth started to become a tiny bit repetitive and this seventh felt exactly that.
A lot of space - and time - is used to get up to date with the characters and their previous doings, which makes for a lot of repetition. I simply think the series should be based on reading the books in correct order; it seems impossible and somewhat amputated, in spite of the catching up, to start with, as in this last case, book 7! Debbie Macomber writes well. Both the invention of small town Cedar Cove and the many interesting characters, who after a while seem almost like old friends, is excellent. I only think this series has gone on for long enough. Not only the up to date information in this book, but also further developments in peoples' lives, seemed repetitive. As if one had read it all before. Many readers call the Cedar Cove series a soap opera. I think it's much above that, but at this point I may agree somewhat. A true sign of soap operas is that after a substantial number of episodes, they seem to go back to the beginning and start all over again. Book 7 left many questions unanswered, but I'm not overly keen for the answers. Linnette and Pete? Probably. A new baby for Megan? Probably. Will Troy get his Faith in the end? Probably. And so on. It's been an enjoyable stay in idyllic Cedar Cove but by now I'm ready to move on. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-10 21:02:25 EST)

I love Debbie Macomber, and have almost everything she has written, with the exception of this series. I quit reading this series after about the 4th or 5th book. In an effort to make each book stand on its own, the subsequent books devote entirely too much time filling you in on what has gone before. When it takes 6 chapters to get back to the people you were reading about in chapter one, and who the book is supposed to be about, I feel I have wasted my time and my money. If I wanted a rehash of the first books in the series, I would dig them out and re-read them. This series has long since lost any appeal it had for me. Enough already! Give this town and the people in it a rest and give us something new!

Another excellent Cedar Cove book from Debbie Macomber. It is so hard to wait for the next book as I just read all six in the series this summer. They are an excellent read. Her characters are like people you might know in your own life but more interesting!

For those of us hooked on Debbie Macomber's Cedar Grove series, this is one of the best, and that's saying something, as all are good and entertaining. But for some reason, I enjoyed this more.
Except for one highly improbable (but enjoyable anyway) plot line about a chess match and Russian threats, the book was a wonderful reunion with the characters we have come to know and love. And even the chess match reunites us with loveable hairdresser Tami and her intellectual powerhouse chess champion husband, Bobby. There are some sad and serious issues in this book too, from lost love to life-threatening illness, but all are handled with Macomber's warm and compassionate style. On the last page of the book, I wanted the next--it's going to be hard to wait! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-14 09:00:21 EST)

Teri Polgar thinks her husband, Chess Champion Bobby, is being overly protective of her. But he has good reason to - someone wants him to throw a match and has threatened to harm Teri if he doesn't. Despite the threat, Teri tries to go about her life normally - working at the hair salon and trying to play matchmaker between her sister Christie and Bobby's driver/bodyguard James. In the meantime, other residents of Cedar Cover are going through changes in their lives - Linette McAfee has left town and is trying to rebuild her life after Cal dumped her; Sheriff Troy Davis is starting to date after the death of his wife, much to the dismay of his daughter Megan, who desperately wants to have a baby; Rachel Pendergast can't understand why her relationship with Bruce Payton is changing when she knows she is in love with Nate Olsen; and Olivia Lockhart Griffin is facing a major health crisis.
"74 Seaside Avenue" is another nice entry in Debbie Macomber's ongoing Cedar Cove series. This is the seventh book in the series and you don't have to have read all of them to read this one, although it does help. The series is like an ongoing soap opera and it's always nice to catch up with favorite characters from past books. "74 Seaside Avenue" focuses on Teri and Bobby Polgar, an endearing if odd couple. While Bobby is one of my favorite characters in the series, I think Macomber could have done a better job with his dialogue. It's stilted, which I think is meant to show that he's not comfortable when he's out in public, but surely he's able to speak complete sentences around his wife at this point in their relationship. My favorite developing romance in this book is the one between Christie and James. Macomber's left readers hanging at the end of this book as to what happens between them and I can't wait to see what happens to them next. Macomber brings readers up to date on several characters and it's nice to have the Grace-Cliff-Will "triangle" come to an end. It's also nice to see that having played the Rachel-Nate-Bruce triangle over several books, Macomber brings it to a satisfying end (at least for me). It was also nice to see Linette grow and mature by the end of this book, although her actions still seem a little too hasty. Megan's worrying over her father's dating so soon after the death of her mother is well done. Megan is a bit selfish in wanting her father for herself, but it's understandable as she is still dealing with the loss of her mother. The Olivia health scar is a very real one for many women and kudos to Macomber for bringing it into the book. "74 Seaside Avenue" is a nice, cozy read. My biggest complaint is that the Cedar Cove series already has a lot of characters and Macomber keeps adding more. It's hard to keep track of all the characters at this point. And it's a bit disappointing to have some characters that have figured prominently in other books in the series barely mentioned at all in this one. Allison and Anson show up in one brief chapter and that's it. Still, Macomber is a good writer who keeps you interested in all the characters old and new. Debbie Macomber fans will love "74 Seaside Avenue". (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-21 15:05:03 EST)

I am a huge fan of Debbie Macomber and her books especially her cedar grove collection. This 7th book in the series starts out slowly but by the 75th-100th page, the reading becomes fast paced and the storyline is riveting. As soon as you get into this book, the book ends leaving you panting for more until the 8th book in this series is released next September 2008! Enjoy! Tara from Brooklyn, NY

I should have been forwarned when an editorial review said it was "gossipy writing." I could not find a central plot to focus on as the story switched from one person to another carrying forward the lives of various people. It is well written, and I would recommend it for soap opera fans, but it is not my type novel.

The characters from Cedar Cove return like old friends. This book centers around Teri and her chess-playing husband, Bobby. Their story is not as compelling as some of the others, because they seem to be an unlikely couple who have very little in common, but the sub-plots are interesting. Rachel has two men interested in her and she has a hard time deciding which one she really loves. Troy Davis meets up with an old friend, but he's afraid to tell his daughter who disappoves of him dating so soon after the death of his wife. Linnette leaves town with a broken heart after Cal falls in love with someone else. Author Debbie Macomber spins these separate stories into an interesting whole and manages to set up intriguing situations for her next book in the series. One other complaint I have about this book is that natural disasters and diseases are thrown into the plot just to encourage some of the romances, and sometimes the situations seem forced and unrealistic. Other than that, the book is a fast read and it catches readers up on the lives of fictional people whom they've come to enjoy.

I love Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series. Reading each book is like sitting down to cake and coffee with friends and catching up on the town gossip. Debbie has created an idyllic little town and peopled it with people you can come to truly care about. Get involved with their problems, agonize over their dilemmas, and delight in their triumphs as their most intimate stories captivate your imagination.
The home of Teri and Bobby Polgar is the focal point of this addition to the series. As with all Cedar Cove books, the home is pictured on the cover, and Debbie tells us in her intro that this particular home just happens to be the one she shares with her real-life hubby. The characters you have grown to love in previous entries are all moving forward. Olivia and Jack face a problem they never anticipated, Grace adjusts to married life and deals with her embarrassing past, Maryellen gets great news, Rachel finds herself in a troubling triangle, Sheriff Troy Davis reacquaints himself with a past love his daughter will not abide, and Linnette McAfee takes her broken heart and runs away. A dangerous kidnapping involves several residents and a cliffhanger ending sets the stage for Dave and Emily Flemming to share their story at 8 Sandpiper Way with readers in September, 2008. If you like light romances with surprising twists and mysterious turns, you'll be charmed by this series and relish each new peek into the lives of the people of Cedar Cove. I have been enthralled with the Cedar Cove series since the first one. Debbie Macomber sets up a mystery and solves it while introducing other characters with their secrets and joys. You can read each book by itself, but I recommend that you read them from the very beginning. Debbie Macomber's imagery is outstanding- I can picture Cedar Cove as if it were a real place, with real people.

Love this series, but probably of all the Cedar Cove characters Bobby Polgar is my least favorite. Bobby is a little too nerdy for someone as sophisticated as Teri, but still the story wasn't boring. The storylines involving Rachel, Lynette and Olivia were my favorites. The teaser at the end of the book setting up the next book in the series definitely leaves you anticipating the next installment. Keep the books coming, Debbie!

In Cedar Cove, Washington, international chess grandmaster champion Bobby Polgar takes the threats seriously. He drops out of a tournament in which he is one of the favorites for fear that someone will kill his "queen", his beloved wife Teri if he plays. Teri knows something is not right as she feels she is the queen Bobby is protecting but from what, who and why remain unknown to her. At the same time that Bobby hovers all over his spouse, her sister Christie seems to want nothing to do with her.
Meanwhile other townsfolk struggle with issues. Widower Sheriff Troy Davis feels his heart ripping apart as he believes he must choose between his daughter's needs and an attraction. Her heart broken; Linnette McAfee leaves Cedar Cove; while Rachel has become involved in a romantic triangle. Fans of this Puget Sound small town series will enjoy the latest entry as the locals face personal crisis with the chess king being checkmated as the prime theme. Newcomers will have no major adjustment to the goings-on as this and its six street predecessors stand alone while telling the continue tales of Cedar Cove. Debbie Macomber's ability to create compelling characters is reminiscent to the stylings of Tino Georgiou in his novel The Fates. In Debbie's newest release, Cedar Cove Series #7. The story centers around an international chess champion, ( Bobby Polgar,) who receives threats if he plays in a match which he is favored. Fearing his wife, (Teri,) will be killed, Bobby drops out of the tournament. Terri feels in her heart that something is amiss, but her questions, as of yet, remain unanswered. Enter Terri's sister, Christie, who seems more content with departing from her sis, and you have small-town folk struggling within Washington's Cedar Cove. Through in a sheriff, who can't decide between his daughter and a new fling; a broken heart; and a love triangle, and you'll soon realize why the small-town charm of this series attracts so many fans.

If you love books that have a folksy, down home, what's happening in the neighborhood kind of feeling, then you'll love this series, including the newest addition - #7.
Honestly, Debbie writes just as if you were sitting there sharing a coffee and she was filling you in on all the happenings in Cedar Cove. I don't know how she creates the intimacy she does, but honestly, you feel like one of the locals just catching up on the news. And there's a lot of good news. The local hairdresser, on her own too long, unintentionally snags the wealthy successful International chess champion, and the sweet girl-next-door finally gives up on Cedar Cove and its men and heads back to the city, leaving her family still on the island. The turns and twists that these girls experience and all the other convolutions that occur in Cedar Cove are shared in such a comfortable, easy way that you feel like you're sitting in the beauty shop hearing it all face to face. Debbie does a great job as usual on this entertaining book ! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-09-03 22:30:20 EST)
