This is so much more than just a book with art in it. This book gives you inspiration and help and encouragement in your journey with whatever art form you work with. Kelly's art is beautiful and so inspiring and the fact that she included some other artists in the book as well was such a bonus. The interviews and techniques of these artists are awesome and eye opening. The way Kelly used their techniques with her own just gives to the overall feel of the book. Learning to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. I am glad to have been opened up to their art as well and learn something from them. Every project in this book is awesome and I cannot wait to try them all. You really get into Kelly's heart and see how she started out and what she has overcome in her own journey. It is almost like a little dose of therapy in there as well. I just got inspiration overload from it all. The book is great, you will not regret having it in your home library. I have always been in and out of a rut with my art and this has been the push I need to give my creative spirit wings and soar. The only thing I regret about the book is that it's not signed by the wonderful artist Kelly Rae Roberts, that would be the final touch!
Note: And to note, I just couldn't resist saying something about the 1 negative comment about the book so far, basically is to ignore it and not even waste the time reading it cause it made absolutely no sense at all and I just have to wonder what this person is on. A monkey could follow the step by step instructions given, they are easy to follow and understand. Okay, off my soap box now!

I bought this book because I really liked the front cover and also because the critics were so wonderful that I thought that I really was going to LEARN something but I found that she didn't even know what "gesso" was,an artist! I found a book made only for women who needed to be encouraged about their art abilites,needed of hearing that they could do it, that they are sacred, and blah blah blah....It is a self-help book not a real art technique one.Much better any of Claudine Hellmuth for exemple,I have much more, or any of the thousands of journaling blogs in internet made by famous mix media artists.
For me it was a really waste of money because I couldn't read more than ten pages.If I give it 2 stars is because some step by step are O.K.
I already know I am an artist and I can do anything if I work hard and I find the right information

just as the title indicates, this book has proven to give me wings and set my creative juices into motion. i have thoroughly enjoyed learning and being inspired by kelly and the techniques presented. in fact, i started a project (finally) one evening. when i awoke the following morning, it felt like christmas and i diverted from my usual routine and went straight to the art table*** thank you kelly!

I was so excited to receive this book...and it certainly exceeded my expectations!! The projects are wonderful, the directions easy to follow and I am up to number 3 reproduction of Kelly's amazing art..Buy this book, you will not regret it!!!

I agree with the other reviewers in that this really is a gorgeous book. But it is more than just a pretty picture. The passion that Kelly Rae Roberts has for her art seeps into every corner of this book. I am not a mixed media artist (yet) but I do make one-of-a-kind jewelry that has a mixed-media appeal. All I know is that I am truly inspired by her book to take my art to the next level. I have never been good at keeping a journal but the workbook pages in this book are really quite helpful. I am using this as a getaway from my life...when I need to be inspired and uplifted and righted on my path to creativity. When I am done I will go back and read through my answers to see where this book has taken me on the wings of Ms Robert's fancy. Ms Robert's artwork is a stunning backdrop to a rich collection of essays and quotes meant to treat your senses to an inspiration smorgasbord. Perfect book for anyone who wants to follow their dreams or just put a bit more creativity into their lives.

I love this book. Kelly Rae shares much insight while giving lessons on some of her wonderful techniques. I highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to try mixed media.

I just adore this book. The artwork is fantastic. The details with step-by-step instructions and pictures are wonderful. Each time I look through it I notice something new to try. Great book to purchase if you are looking to learn collage technique etc.

I bought this book purely because I read about it on Donna Downey's blog. I didn't know what was in it other than it had mixed media & the spirit of Kelly's writing had touched Donna. When I got the book I was thrilled to find step by step instructions to recreating Kelly's art & I completely fell in love with Kelly's work. I love the range of techniques that are covered in the book & the artwork throughout the book is superb. To hear the journey of Kelly is completely inspiring. An awesome aresenal of techniques combined with a story that drives you to create. I throughly recommend it.

I admit I am totally biased because I have the honor of being included in the book, but even if I were not I would be cheering Kelly on for a beautiful, inspiring creation!

This book is a great book for someone interested in beginning art journaling. The techniques are well explained and easy to follow and the content is very thought provoking. I think all skill levels would benefit.

I have been following Kelly Rae's successes since I read her first article in Cloth Paper Scissors magazine and have been anxiously awaiting her new book. Her book is fabulous and is loaded with insight into our creative journeys and everything that entails. I connected with everything she talks about, as I'm sure many other readers have as well. Her ideas and thoughts are so well organized and really, really make sense to me. I will treasure this book and will continue to re-read and be re-inspired by her words and techniques.

Kelly Rae has done a wonderful job creating this well written and beautifully illustrated book. Written in language that is flowing and entertaining, she gives voice to the creative thoughts that many women fail to take the time to hear. This book would make a wonderful gift, especially paired with some basic art supplies (perhaps the supplies needed for one of the many projects in the book). The author gently takes the reader's hand to bring them along on an artistic journey into self discovery. For any women who has always wanted to create but didn't know where to start, this book will give her inspiration (and easy to follow instructions!)

A beautiful book filled with page after page of gorgeous artwork, inspiring techniques and interesting prompts and quotes to get your creative spirit flowing. Designed to be an interactive experience with pages called "Winged Thoughts". These blank pages are ready for you to write in your own answers and responses to the questions and prompts presented on them. But there's so much more in this book that just questions and prompts. You'll find pages of mixed media techniques and projects to experiment with as well. Recommended for any artist working in any medium.

If you are thinking about branching out and doing something different with your art, check out this great book. Kelly Rae has such great insights into the creative process and her step by steps are clear and concise. I loved every minute of reading it and it really took my art to another level. I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!!!

Love it !! Beautiful and thought provoking! I could write a lot of flowery words about this book but they simply would not do it justice. This book is, at the least, a 5 star rating. I have a "few" art books in my library. I believe a true test of a book like this is to excite people to self activity. This book has hit the mark, not only with excellent examples of projects but Kelly's personal journey allows her soul to reach out to yours and say "come fly with me". I use to paint but haven't in a long time. I have already ordered supplies to do one of the projects from Kelly's book - I will make the project my own but the inspiration to start creating again has come from Kelly's book.
I recommend this book to anyone who either wants to be inspired to take that first step, or for whatever reason has stopped creating and would like to begin again.

I purchased this book being familiar with the author in ways other than art. I had NO intention of becoming an artist, but hoped to encounter the optimism and inspiration one so easily finds in Kelly Rae Roberts. I am stunned to say that after completing chapter one, for the first time in my life I'm thinking, "Why have I always said,'I couldn't do that, I'm not creative enough'?" Why place these limitations on myself? The book is powerful, wonderful and beautiful. A work of art in itself. A great read for those creative or not, just be careful-you may begin to see your possbilities in a new light!

Aside from being visually just so beautiful, this book is such a treasure in other ways. As a very non crafty person, this book makes one want to be a very, very crafty person, and feel like it is actually possible to do so step by step with clearly illustrated instructions along with each and every project. But more than that, my favorite part of the book is Kelly's story and encouragement sprinkled throughout the book on connecting with one's own inner wings. I especially like the questions/writing prompts in each chapter to help support one's inner artist and the interviews as well with other artists. This is just a wonderful book stuffed with inspiration and genuine joy for the artistic spirit. Treat yourself!

I found this book as inspiring as having a coffee with your dearest friend in hopes of gaining the nudge you need to move forward creatively. Kelly Rae not only speaks to the fears and insecurities of pursuing a creative life but also encourages you to walk through this. Her collage examples are clear and easy to follow - and would be easy to adapt to your own individual style and voice. A great read - and one I will reference from time to time.

I received this book a few weeks ago and have read some sections 3 times. It provided a starting point to letting go and getting started with creating from the heart. This book provided the impetus for me to keep going and learning as I go along.

The techniques provided a new jumping off point, being a fabric artist and now moving into mixed media. Never thought of myself as a painter but, the sky is truly the limit.

I would recommend this book for anyone that needs to rid themselves of the fear of getting started and finding the real source of your creativity.

I have admired Kelly Rae's journey into the creative life for the past 2 years. This book contains so many yummy, wise and helpful inspirations, encouragement and wonderful techniques.

Her book is a treasure and perfect for anyone who is ready to let their creative life take flight.

I bought this book a couple of weeks ago and I've read every page and already incorporated some of the techniques into my art. I love the author's artwork and the "guest" artists' work is also lovely. Its a gorgeous layout overall with every page a beautiful piece of artwork in itself. and there are also some journaling pages where you can write your own thoughts and ideas. Every time I look at the pages in the book I get really inspired about creating more artwork. it's now one of my favorite books in my art journaling library.

I have always admired the artist's work and have been anxiously awaiting the publication of this book. It was worth the wait ! If you are looking for inspiration, support for you own creative explorations and just some interesting "how-to's" - get this book. Now !

This book is so sublimely beautiful that it makes me hurt!! Kelly Rae Roberts is an amazingly gifted artist. If you like the art style on the cover of the book, you'll fall in love with the rest of the book, too. I haven't been able to put it down since I got it. Her unique style is very consistent throughout the book. The projects are excellent, and the instructions are well done. Included in the book is input from a team of her artist friends who have contributed their own ideas and techniques to the book as well. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It's on a level all its own, in my opinion.

I have been a fan of Kelly Rae's work for some time and was anticipating her first book. As a shy painter, I was seeking a few techniques from someone like Kelly but this book goes way above and beyond a how-to book, which would have been amazing on it's own. She also brings in artists who inspired her to take flight and not only interviews them, but collaborates on a project with them, sharing techniques for all of us to make our own.

The day it came I found a cozy spot and read it cover to cover, which I must say was hard to do because I was so inspired to jump up and get messy with paints, and other materials. I was especially drawn to making frames out of hardcover books.

But more than sharing her talents and techniques, Kelly also shares her journey in a very raw and real way. The whispers in her heart from a young age that she ignore for years before taking flight. Everything about her journey spoke to me in a very pure way, it was like having a good friend there with you, sharing a cup of tea and being creative together, spilling along the way.

There are many art books on the market, but few that offer great ideas as well as inspiration. I have purchased many art books and I must say that this new book is one of the best! Kelly's openness, encouraging thoughts and fabulous ideas are so inspirational. I can't put it down--but I did to pick up my paint brush. This book is a must have for any creative person.

Kelly Rae Roberts' book arrived in my mailbox today, and I haven't put it down. Like many books of this genre, it's inspirational, but then there's more: there are exercises which help you tap into your own creativity. There are interviews with other artists which describe how they tapped into their own creative spirits. But the best part? Beautiful, fully-illustrated how-tos, to help you take and learn the techniques of all of the artists featured, so that you can incorporate them into your own art.

Truly outstanding first work -- and can't wait to read the follow-ups which must inevitably come.

I have connected to your heartfelt words and you, on so many different levels, the journey of my constant struggle with my weight surfaced through your pages...so many other thoughts and feelings.
There are no words grand enough to describe , already. what your words mean, and I havent even started any of the projects yet. I have read through the instructions on the projects and they are so well written and so easy to read, anyone will be able to follow through and create beautiful pieces of art!

Wow , this book is simply the best . This book is something i have been waiting for along time.It has loads of fantastic step by step instructions.The techniques covered are so inspiring .It is not only a how to book but Kelly Rae takes you on her creative journey ( such a great read ) and explains how she got her wings . Mine are just starting to grow .The book is laid out beautifully with lots of new images of Kelly Rae's creations and all in colour , what more can one ask for .If you only buy one book this year well....... I love it .Well done Kelly Rae.

Remember that scene in Peter Pan when he yells out "I do believe in fairies, I do, I do!!"?? After reading Kelly Rae Robert's blog for some time and loving every delicious piece of artwork she has created, I must say, I share in Peter Pan's sentiment. I do believe in fairies, especially the gentle fairy who has gifted the world with this book. This book is generous, welcoming and loving. Each page embraces you and guides you through your journey. No matter what creative fancy intrigues you, once you start reading, you'll hear a tiny voice that is Kelly Rae standing behind you, whispering, "fly, fly".

The art, the words, the presentation...everything! Just beautiful. I cant wait to dig in and start doing some of the projects.

Oh my, with her first book, Kelly Rae just ROCKED the creative art world - the world of artists, wanna-be artists, wishful artists, those who dream of being a wannabe artist, etc. WOW! I expected this to be a straight forward how-to book (and that would have made it delightful enough) but was thrilled to discover a whole other layer of soulful and heartfelt storytelling that left me feeling so good about trying new things. I think this is the perfect book to give a friend who's feeling stuck or wanting to explore art more. It's the kind of book that you want to keep near you and that quickly becomes a long time favorite on your bookshelf, and I plan to order a nice stack in time for the holidays.

I received my copy of the book yesterday and today I was able to hide away in a quiet, cozy place and soak in the beauty and inspiration this book has to offer. The art is amazing and I love how Kelly Rae has incorporated other artists' techniques and styles into her own--encouraging us to explore new creative realms just as she has done. (Each chapter features a different artist interview and a project inspired by their style/media) I can't wait to try all of the projects in the book. I've already begun playing with the journal prompts, digging deeper into what I want as an artist and not being afraid to ask those questions and to dream big. A must read for everyone--regardless of where they are on their creative path.

Kelly Rae Roberts is an amazingly talented artist and apparently equally gifted as a writer as well. This book is a journey from her soul right into yours. It's part journal, part sitting around getting deep with your girlfriends, part interviews with other talented artists and part art instruction. So very different from other art books, even from the same publisher. It goes above and beyond and straight into your heart & head, making you think about your own creativity.

And until you find your creative spirit, the how-to make art sections are very clearly thought out and well written. I know that I will be able duplicate even the pieces that had materials I've never used before.

This book is a treasure that I know I will refer to again and again.
