There are helpful notes and outlines, but too many mistakes. For that price, should the author not update his book?

I recieved the book 5 days before the test and did not take a course. I took all the test questions and felt confident going in. I passed! Highly recommended

I used this book in preparation for the LEED NC 2.2 exam. Overall, I found the volume of the material, (e.g. spreadsheets, charts, etc) not helpful nor very useful; this material is contained in a concise and readable format in the LEED manual. The practice questions were generally helpful; however, between 5-10% of the questions were either incorrect or erroneous. Additonally, gramatical errors are contained throughout.
It seems that for the cost of the book, a reasonable expectation is that the practice test questions should be correct gramatically and factually; in both cases they are not. I would recommend to the reader to look elsewhere for study materials and purchase the LEED manual(s)for exam prep. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-08 04:00:30 EST)

The LEED examination is not for the faint of heart. At the minimum, you should know the USGBC Guide by rote. You need to supplement that knowledge using other books. I used three books to study for the LEED exam. I passed the LEED exam on my first try thanks largely to this book. It's clear, concise and well-organized. It has some great tables that make for easy memorization. Clearly written, always on point, and the practice tests were close to what I experienced on the exam. I also found the 100 test taking tips on fact sheets indispensible. In addition to USGBC Referene Guide, this book in my opinion is instrumental in passing the LEED exam. Exceptional resource.

I bought LEEDPASS based mainly on the reviews on this website. LEEDPASS does break down information on credits nicely into tables and charts (as expected). However, after taking the actual test, I would speculate that 30-40% of the questions were not adequately covered by LEEDPASS. Mainly, the material does not adeqeuately cover the process and project team involvement. In addition, there are grammatical errors throughout and a number of places where information on credits is contradictory. There are also aren't any explanations to practice questions, so you're often left wondering why questions are right/wrong.
For those taking the test with lots of LEED practical experience, this may be a good resource, but for those learning from scratch, this unfortunately, is not a reliable resource (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-07 11:15:38 EST)

I think the LEED system is an important step but this guide reflects the poor nature of the LEED test and does little to prepare the test taker than couldn't be achieved by reading the main sections of the LEED manual which needs to be done anyways.

I bought this book a couple of weeks back and have been using it alongside the LEED NC Reference guide v2.2. A few things you should know before you buy this one (which I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND)
- The book has a 'photocopied' feel (quality of paper and print)which is not worth the cost of the book - I've found atleast 20 or more typos and errors so far compared to the USGBC Reference guide v2.2 - The tables are elementary and can be created by you once you start studying from the Reference guide itself - Several of the '600 practice questions' are very poorly constructed and absolutely incomparable to the ones on the actual exam (samples of which are available on several websites online) All in all this book is definitely not worth the price and might have earned all the good reviews purely because it gives you concise information for a quick reference, which I recommend that you compile from your own notes and not depend on the author's. This is a good book for LEED AP Exam Preparation. The USGBC Reference Guide is comprehensive, but it gives too much information. The USGBC workshop and related handout is concise, but it does not cover extra credits (exemplary performance). LEEDPASS give you enough information to pass the exam. It is concise and can save you a lot of time. It does have some minor errors in spelling and grammar, but I can still understand what the author is trying to say.
It'll be helpful if the author can provide explanatory solutions to example questions. Some of the answers to the book are probably wrong. For example, in order to get to the "correct" answer of the book for questions 375 and 399, you need to think "Provide bicycle rack for 5 percent of FTE within 200 yards" can gain 1 point, but the fact is you need to "Provide bicycle rack for 5 percent of FTE within 200 yards AND provide shower and changing facilities for 0.5% of FTE" to get 1 point. A few of the "Final Facts" also refer you to "read the entire sheet" for certain pages of the USGBC Reference Guide, this will not help the people who have not bought the Reference Guide at all. The main purpose of a book is to provide useful information. This book has some weakness but overall it is a good investment for the money you spend. The version I have of the LEEDPASS study guide which I purchased last November is full of errors. There are several incorrect and misleading statements in the guide. There are also several incorrect answers to the sample questions. The language is atrocious with constant grammatical and spelling errors. Several words are misused. e.g. cycling instead of recycling and paving instead of roof and portable instead of potable. The errors caused me a good bit of frustration. This book is in desperate need of editing! The next edition should be checked for accuracy, correct spelling, usage, and grammer. This book could be a very professional publication instead of an amateur mess.
Having said all this, I found that the process of checking the errors encouraged me to find the correct answers and wording from other sources. I probably learned the material better because I had to check it so often. I passed my LEED AP the first time I took it! On the good side, the format worked very well for me. The tables were invaluable. I am typically not good at memorizing material. This arrangement worked for me. The test questions did not look a lot like the test questions in the exam. However, they did a good job of letting me know what material I needed to study more thoroughly. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-18 05:20:49 EST)

The day after I posted my review, I recieved a call from the author. He told me the latest version of LEEDPASS has fixed many of the problems I encountered. Hopefully the latest version is much better than the one I bought in November. I will review the latest version and give you an update to this review.

Written to save you preparation time, the book:
* Helps you identify potential problem areas in your knowledge. * Review topics not covered in other books for the LEED exam. * Become acquainted with what the author calls "fact sheets." * Prepares you for sitting through exam. * Acquaints you with the type of questions that appear on the exam. The time spent reviewing LEEDPASS material will focus your attention on material appearing on the exam. It will also broaden your approach to sustainable design from your personal, narrow experience to the broad-based approach tested on the exam. If you are serious about passing, this book is well-worth the money. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-30 04:15:35 EST)

First of all, I passed my exam today! That's the most important part.
The USGBC Reference Guide provides valuable information for all credits but this book fills in the blanks, provides helpful exercises for each credit. This is a critical tool to pass the exam. The material itself is excellent. As some have pointed out, it is a little slim in some areas, but the book's purpose is to help you pass the exam. I recommend you read this book and refer back to the USGBC Reference Guide whenever you are confused or need additional detail. It presents the information in a structured, easy-to-understand format that guides you through all credits, their interaction, and most importantly, what you need to know about each one to pass the exam. I am very pleased with my score on the exam and with this book in general. This is my LEED preparation book of choice and I highly recommend it to anyone who is studying for their LEED AP credential. This guide is poorly written and seems to have been thrown together quickly.
I found several instances where information had been summarized incorrectly, so if you use it, be sure to consult the official LEED reference guide to make sure that you have the correct information. I did find the "final facts" and design sections useful in preparing for the exam, but I thought the practice questions were poorly written and more confusing than helpful. I found eight typographical and grammatical errors - not to mention the numerous awkardly worded sentences. Its almost as if it were written by someone not completely familiar with english. I hope the content is better than the writing!!!!!!!!!

After studying other books for months, I found myself so frustrated and confused that I started looking for other material. I went online and found the positive reviews of leedpass and bought the book, and I am SO glad I did!
I have read criticisms of the book's grammar and spelling. I did find a few (under 5) spelling errors, but I honestly appreciated the "big print" type and simplistic words. The material covered on the LEED Exam is pretty complex and tough. And too many LEED education providers seem to think they have to mimic that complexity and difficulty to teach the material. It was incredibly refreshing to find a book that actually went out of its way to make the material simple. What took months to understand reading the overly-complex other book became crystal clear when I read leedpass book. On a purely mechanical level, the author went out of his way to make sure this book was organized to help you study. I really appreciated that. The book was also an easy and fast read, unlike all of the other materials I found. I read the first half of the book in one day, and the second half in another day. I then went through the book with a highlighter and re-read it, in 2 days time again, highlighting all the key points. Finally I skimmed the material several times, only glossing over the highlighted points. Doing this I could flip through the entire book in a day. I did that twice. Finally, two days before the exam I took the entire 400 question test at the end of the book, scoring 90%. I took the LEED Exam a few days ago and passed fairly well, thanks completely to LEEDPASS book. I am very pleased with my score on the exam and with this book this is my LEED preparation book of choice and I highly recommend it to anyone who is studying for their LEED AP credential. I just passed the LEED exam largely due to this book. Read this book after reading the USGBC book. This book helps greatly in understanding the USGBC which is extremely dull but nevertheless indispensable for passing the exam. The author has done a commendable job in providing succinct and interesting explanations. My advice to pass the LEED exam:
1. Read this Book 2. Read USGBC book. 3. Repeat 1 and 2 4. Try 400 questions (some are harder than actual exam) All the best!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-10 18:34:22 EST)

I was initially excited for the addtional tables and '400' qestions - until I kept finding mistakes in the tables and that several of the questions are used more than once. It was confusing and hard to study because I kept having to go back to reference guide to make sure that the answers or tables were correct. Many of the test questions are worded poorly, and have grammar and spelling mistakes. NOT worth the money. Buy the Colorado USGBC guide and save the money on this.

This book DOES NOT equip you to study for, and successfully take, the LEED exam. The grammar in this book is ATROCIOUS. There is an obvious lack of editting - to the point where you spend more time trying to figure out what the author is TRYING to say, than you spend studying the material. The questions are not worded in the same manner as actual exam questions. And, some of the answers given are 100% INCORRECT. It is very clear that this study guide was never checked against the LEED Reference Guide. I was EXTREMELY disappointed by this study tool. You are much better off purchasing the Reference Guide and studying directly from it. Think of it in terms of your Steel Manual - it's an expensive initial purchase, but it will be in your bookcase for years to come.

This text is a dangerous study tool if you are relying on it alone to aid you in passing the LEED exam. First of all, it is apparent that the book was NEVER edited. The grammar and language use is atrocious. It is obvious that the author is not a native English speaker (which is fine - except that is why you employ an editor). The questions are incorrectly worded; to the point where you must spend valuable study time trying to re-word the questions so that they make sense. BEWARE - many of the answers given in the key are 100% INCORRECT. It is obvious that this guide was never cross-checked with the LEED for New Construction Reference Guide.

I used this study guide to pass the LEED exam and now I use it to teach a LEED project course. Simply put: it's the best LEED study guide and an excellent LEED reference book. The book explains all the concepts from scratch and treats each topic to depth appropriate for the exam. The material is self contained and is organized according to the official exam specifications, which is also more or less the order in which we run LEED projects. I love the presentation style. As another reviewer said: all concepts are woven together into a big picture. You prepare for the exam while learning LEED project concepts.
I must agree with all the previous reviews on how well organized and easy to understand this book is. The materials presented are easy to comprehend and well explained without being overly tedious in detail. I must disagree with a previous reviewer who says that the terms and questions used are incompatible with the LEED reference guide. I have actually found it to the contrary. Highly recommended. I haven't taken the test yet, so I can't judge on how it is as an aid to passing. It seems to be fairly comprehensive and I do appreciate that someone has put this together. However I was a bit disappointed in the quality. There are way too many spelling and grammatical errors that I caught on the first run already, so I'm sure there are more than what first meets the eye. And it looks like something someone just printed off from their home computer and spiral bound. The material seems accurate though, I just am a little hesitant to rely on all of the information when even the spelling wasn't double checked.

Leedpass is a must have study guide. It is better than any other guides, I used several. Concise, well organized and easy to use, it was my go-to resource for review between hours of reading the Leed NC v2.2 Reference Guide. Everyone who studys for the LEED exams knows there is a ton of material. Leedpass is a valuable time saver for review. You find where your weaknesses are to focus your study. The questions are really helpful. Not too wordy, but to the point. 400 questions are a lot, but if you break the quizzes into groups of 80 (like the actual exam) you have five practice exams in one book! If you can average 80 percent correct on the Leedpass' quizzes, you will probably pass the exam...I did.
Really Really helpful. Thankyou Shawn Shahfar for this great resource (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-28 01:29:25 EST)

The LEEDPASS Exam Prep book may not perfectly package the LEED Exam for you to digest in one effortless meal. But having recently passed the exam, I can say that if I had to do it again, I'd again use this book as the core of my preparation routine. If you're like me, you are probably willing to do any reasonable preparation for the exam, but are not sure what the best source is to be sure you pass. The good news for prospective LEED AP's is that the exam can be adequately prepared for in a reasonable amount of time. The LEEDPASS book is probably the most cost and time effective way for most candidates to prepare to pass the test.

I like this study guide book. well organized study guide.
this book doesn't include full text of LEED (only questions and key notes) this is good for review/practice exam. if you like to know detail information of LEED this isn't the right text but for review, i'll say this is real good book and good price. thank you (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-03 12:20:37 EST)

This book was the main source of my information/study material before the exam. I first started reading USGBC reference book but found the material to be very cold, and you really don't know what the exam expects after reading the reference book. The LEEDPASS book is very exam oriented and this challenges you to think on situational questions right from the start. There are other sources available for preparation of the LEED exam, but this book stands out from all of them. It is easy to read, understand, and believe me, it would help you make a great deal of progress in your understanding and study of the material.
Hope this helps. All the best to the LEED AP aspirants out there! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-18 08:57:11 EST)

Having just passed the LEED exam today, I feel that I need to provide feedback on Mr. Shahfar's book, which I used as the primary source of my study material. This book far exceeds any materials that were presented in one day seminar and other courses on LEED exam. The materials presented are well explained without being overly tedious in details like USGBC Reference Guide. Overall I think this is a great primer for your study, and most likely if you study mainly from it you would pass the exam. However you might be a little disappointed with your final score as I am.

I bought this book because a friend of mine recommended this book to me. I'm glad I bought it. I would say this is basically the only book you need in addition to the USGBC reference book to pass the exam. This book is especially excellent for beginners because it's self contained and explains each concept with very well organized charts and tables. Another biggy is that the practice questions are tough and well organized according to the LEED exam specifications. The exam objectives covered in final notes and helped me a lot to pass the exam. At the end, I consider this book a great study guide for the LEED exam and a very good reference for learning the basics of Green building design

After posting a rather negative review, I quickly received a call from the author, Mr. Shawn Shahfar. Mr. Shahfar was quick to offer a refund, which I declined.
The Study Guide does contain a large amount of useful information in a well organized chart format, as well as 200 sample questions that accurately mimic the exam. However, the Study Guide is not intended to contain any text explanations related to the LEEDS products. Consequently, the Study Guide will likely not be the only reference that I will need to pass LEED. I was very appreciative and impressed by Mr. Shafar's immediate response to my review and his concern. Then, after a short discussion, he sent me additional information on cost analysis of sustainable construction techniques that will be very useful in my profession. I can not explain it but this book make it stick like "done spaghetti on a wall". Being a visual learner this book had hit my sweet spot. It is like an instructor with a blackboard in a book, and the little devil and angel over your shoulder telling you what is right or wrong. I am getting instant results from general notes tables, an excellent guide and training tool for all those new and somewhat new to LEED methodologies. It lists the exam objectives, explains them, and then covers them in a comprehensive fashion. Most other study guides are just a re-run of USGBC Guide. As a new LEED AP, I believe this one is 100% compatible with the USGBC Guide, but is organized according to the exam spec and explains all concepts from scratch. It is a self contained with challenging 200 questions. As a matter of fact I will be using this guide to train my team so expect a few copies to come my way. I love it and highly recommend it.

I found this book best among all the LEED Exam books. It's a self contained, to the point, and yet very comprehensive: all the topics (within the scope of the exam) are covered with adequate depth. The material is presented in a perfect logical learning sequence, and there is no hopping from topic to topic. I must agree with all the previous reviews on how well organized and easy to understand this book is. The material is organized around exam domains and exam objectives as defined by USGBC. Therefore, this book meets the exam objectives head-on and covers them in a comprehensive fashion. Thank you Mr. Shahfar.

I used several study guides to pass the LEED NC 2.2 exam, some purchased, some downloaded for free. I found this one to be the most expensive and the least useful. I won't mention the others because this is not a plug.
I found the material to be disorganized, cluttered, or inaccurate. I found several questions that were worded incorrectly or just wrong. The verbiage used was not consistent with USGBC language and in some cases wasn't even proper English. Some of it was just rehashed from free information on the internet. Also, the format of the questions on the practice exam were not written in any way like the actual exam. (it's not very hard to pick 3 correct answers out of 4 on MC questions, especially when one is obsurd) I suggest that this product be pulled from Ebay until someone goes through it thoroughly. Thanks to Mr. Shahfar's book, I passed the exam with flying colors.
He is a very kind understanding man demonstrated by his willingness to personally answer questions I had on the material in his book. You are selling yourself short if you dont get this book! Thanks Mr. Shahfar! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-22 11:52:47 EST)

this book is full of typos and inaccurate information. i will not go into all the details, but some of the mistakes in this book have the potential to cause missed questions, especially given the extremely sensitive scaling of the LEED exam. one example is the author's incomplete interpretation of the credit submittal process [often times 10-20% of the total leed exam]. other examples relate to inaccurate acronym definitions [another large part of the exam questions and content].
the decision to purchase this book is up to the individual consumer and i am in no way insinuating that you should or should not purchase this book. based on my own personal experiences, i would not support the purchase of this book due to its poor writing/grammar and inaccurate content. This is a good book to study for the LEED exam for the following reasons:
1)Table-based study material lists the most important points for each credit, very clear and concise. 2)All the standards referenced in NC 2.2 guide were also listed, which is very helpful to memorize them. 3)Pdf files are easy to ship and provide good-quality prints. (a plus for last-minute preparation) 4)The example questions are well-organized, although they are a bit easier than the real exam, which would be good for preparation. I would suggest use this book after reading the NC 2.2 reference guide. Last minor thing -- what I think can make the book better is to provide color prints and explanatory solutions to example questions. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-06-28 16:29:27 EST)

It also provides information on how to navigate the LEED system and a full practice exam. Good product.

I purchased this product to get some sample LEED-NC questions and study material in preparation for the LEED exam. The sample questions are helpful and I will definitely be using them to study. A large portion of the book is data charts which I felt were overpopulated and the quality of the print made them hard to read; I will not be using these at all due to format and readability. [...]

As preparation for the LEED-NC 2.2, I purchased this study guide. It arrived and looked nothing like the what was advertised. It had a plain blue cover, and was a spiral bound book that appeared to have been run off on an office copier and bound as for an office presentation. Apparently there are supposed to be some electronic files that come with this as well, and I have yet to receive them. This was not worth $60, maybe $10, buy the actual LEED guidance instead.
