FAST REAL ESTATE PROFITS was quite helpful and an easy read. The information given throughout the book is a must for beginners in the business. It is up front and candid about getting started and at the same time does not sugar coat the processes to make it sound as if any one can buy and flip houses.
I appreciated the information about developing a "team" of people to help through the processes: real estate agent, lawyer, accountant, lenders, contractors and inspectors. The process becomes easier when you have people you know and trust. The book also contains terms used in buying and selling real estate, what avenue of financing to use, and how to find properties. Information given on priorities in renovating and scheduling can be quite valuable, as well as showing and selling the property. I recommend the book to anyone interested in getting started in real estate. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-12-04 04:30:13 EST)

This clown is affiliated with Atlantic Publishing Company. He is probably the owner. Go to their website (Atlantic Publishing Company) and you'll see his name and email everywhere. He is the one that "new authors" should contact with. This person is POSING LIKE A REAL READER on Amazon, Barnes and Noble etc and is posting positive comments on his own books as well as the other books that are published by his company. Shameless act of deception just to sell a book. Unbelivable. I was looking for a book that I needed on liquor control and while I was doing my research I realized that this guy is doing this almost everywhere on the internet. I find it disgusting to be honest. God knows how many people buy his or his company's books just after reading his "reader comments" without realizing that it's the same guy that posts those comments over and owner. And of course he is affiliated with (if not the owner of) the company that published those books. It's pathetic how he doesn't even bother posting different comments for different. It's the same comment copied and pasted everywhere. So I decided to have him taste his own medicine. Further than that he (or the "authors" that work for him) post the same comments for the other books that are published by this clown's company. I'd bet it's all him posting under different names too as if his own FAKE comments were not enough. In all fairness those books may or may not be good and useful books. But his constant attempts of shameless self plugging certainly makes me think that they are not worth buying. At least not for me.
To D. Brown (Douglas Robert Brown ) ... Make up your mind. Are you "Amy Johnson" or "Restaurant Man". I don't know many Amy's that are men. Why do you paste same non sense comment for different books? And why do they all deserve nothing but 5 stars? Do you work for th e publisher of those books? Seriously. Get a life. I'm reporting your comments to Amazon. I believe that they are fake, misleading and not objective at all. Needless to say you post the same comments for the same books under a different name on Barnes and Noble too. Or your "authors" do. How pathetic. Stop plugging for your books and others that you either publish or God knows how else connected to. I can't that believe Amazon lets you get away with creating BS comments for your and your company's books. Have some decencyif you even know what it means and just go away. Let the real readers decide what to think about your books. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-11 03:21:29 EST)

I bought this book based on other peoples review, this book subtitle is 'the art of flipping properties-insider secrets from the experts who do it every day', so I thought,ok, I should expect to learn the art of flipping, but after reading this book, found that it took a lots of pages talking about other things that I already know, such as 'why do real estate','what is flipping','the players:lawyers,brokers,...',basic concept of real estate:mortgages,deeds,payment schedule,financing;
Only 113 pages out of total this 288 pages book really talk about flipping, and those 113 pages didn't give details on how to do flipping. over all , I don't think it is good book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-18 09:50:05 EST)

Overall I thought the book was okay.
I agree with one of the other reviewers in that the book seems to skip around quite a bit. Another thing I didn't like was the book seemed to be a general overview and didn't go into any great detail about anything. It also didn't site external sources such as web links, etc. to pursue more information on a particular topic as some of the other real estate books do. It's worth a read but honestly, I was a bit dissappointed. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-09-19 13:25:17 EST)

This book touches on all the subjects for beginners to learn about flipping. I got a LOT out of it. Basically, you need a lot of help, and a lot of people around you, and if you get that, you have a good chance of succeeding. Good luck with financing tho...it's very tough right now. You really need money to make a go at flipping houses!

I purchased this book and "Flip" by Rick Villani and Clay Davis at the same time. I read this book first and was completely underwhelmed, you can learn as much from watching a couple episodes of Property Ladder as you can reading this book. Howell gives a very brief discussion of most topics. Glossary? 70-80 pages. Financing? 15 pages with about a page each about conventional mortgages, what is a mortgage broker, a cursory glance at using an investor, dealing with bad credit. If you've ever bought a house of any type before, you already know virtually everything in this chapter even though financing homes other than your primary residence is very different and requires different strategies. Let me add that he uses a very large font with lots of white space so one page is only on average 2 1/2 paragraphs.
He never discusses goals for how much you should try to make when flipping a house, or how to properly calculate the carrying costs to make sure that you really will make a profit. Overall, the book is really terrible and I am amazed at the 5 star reviews it gets on here. After reading this book, I had really low expectations of the other flip book but was quite impressed by the methodology that it presents, its discussion of financing options, how to adjust your maximum buying price based on the risk of the property (depending on how much rehab needs to be done), and the exhaustive discussion on the renovation steps involved. If some people rate this book five stars, the other book must be about 50 stars, it is that much superior. Don't waste your money on this one. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-14 15:50:28 EST)

Sebastian Howell explains the art of flipping houses in easy to understand and honest tone. She uses this book to lay out step by step all the things to consider and how to go through the whole process of flipping a house from, "Is this something I might want to do" to Depositing the money in the bank. Not only does she cover the whole process from beginning to end, but she covers all the options available to you at each stage. In doing this she covers the pro's and con's for each option and which people they would be best for and which people should choose another option at that particular stage.
I've read several other books trying to research if flipping is something I could do on the side. Howell puts flipping into perspective for those wanting to do it as their full time job as well as those not quite ready to give up their 9 to 5 jobs. Overall this is a very informative book and a definite resource for those just starting and those who are trying to make the decision... "To flip or not to flip?" I just bought serveral similar books here. I would say this is the good book worth to reading. The good point is that it does tell something you may not know about flipping, not just giving you some basic ideas.

You've seen all the shows on television that shows the audience how easy people make money flipping houses. But, I'm sure that you've wondered, just like I have, just how possible is it? Well, Sebastian Howell has laid it all out in black and white. The author has described the process in universal terms, meaning you could apply her principles to any geographical area.
This book is easy to understand and deals in both the basics and the more complex material. It starts off with simple explanations and moves on to understanding the market and the business of making money through buying and selling houses. It gives clear definitions of the legal terms and the jargon that you'll come across in the industry. The author also clearly explains the various people you will associate with and their roles on your team. I really appreciated the examples used in the book. They help to clarify the material. The section covered on financing is comprehensive and understandable with tips to pulling it altogether. One the most beneficial sections in the book is a complete list of what to look for in a `flippable' house. She gives clear instructions of what to take note of, what can work and what might cause some problems. Once you've found the ideal property, she leads you through the negotiating process. She deals with renovating properties and then moves the reader onto the selling process. The added bonus to the book is the comprehensive index at the back. sAVE YOUR MONEY! I was suckered into buying this book., I have to say I am a RE investor always looking for new info, this book was a waste. The author talks about flippers but I can tell the author has never even done a flip! There are other books out there likeMichael Corbett's "find it fix it flip it" where he gives actual case histories of properties he has flipped complete with before and after photos. Also, this book is 300 pages but 100 pages in just the index and a useless glossary. There is nothing of substance in this book, save your money folks.

I am by no means an experienced flipper, but this book lost my interest and respect in the early chapters. There's a lot of writing with very little substance. Chapters repeat themselves with exruciatingly little detail. No case studies, no sample budgets, not even a nod to flipping under differing market conditions. (Profits in ANY Market?)
Terms like loan principal are referred to as "principle," local bylaws as "bi-laws," and in some cases I had to rub my eyes at the painfully poor grammar. How could I take it serously? The only redeeming features are a detailed glossary, and the fact that it was cheap enough that I don't feel bad throwing it away. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-02-08 08:52:48 EST)

Fast Real Estate Profits in Any Market by Sebastian Howell
This is an extremely well written and interesting book. One reason I found it credible is that it gives lots of warnings to be cautious, yet details how success in the real estate business is possible. So it's balanced. Another positive comment is that the book explains terms well, so that a complete novice knows what's going on. It's thorough, but never becomes tedious. The book explains that flipping is not only a means to an income, but is very satisfying on other levels. Restoring an old house is a creative endeavour, and providing buyers with a home they love is richly rewarding on an emotional level. The way this book is written appeals to me and is in sync with my learning style. It's very linear, and discusses the process of flipping step-by-step. It explains clearly the pitfalls you may encounter along the way, and how to address them. The book includes sample documents, and a comprehensive glossary. I really can't find a reason to give this book fewer than five stars out of five. I have never even considered a career in real estate, let alone flipping, but I found the book very interesting. Good news: The secret's out. There's serious money to be made in "flipping" real estate. And here's more good news: With little or no money down you can make a fortune in any real estate market. The growing publicity and several popular weekly TV shows on the art of flipping properties is proof that the idea is quickly catching on out there.
But here's the catch (and there's always a catch): To really jump in and survive in today's red-hot, house flipping business, you need proven, street-smart game plans that work. Enter Sebastian Howell. With this down-to-earth guidebook on the art (and science) of flipping properties, you get everything you need to know to start your own real estate flipping enterprise. Read the wisdom packed case studies from the experts, follow their sure-fire tips and strategies, and start flipping properties for greater wealth -- today! -- Robert Gardner (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-15 01:40:44 EST)

While there is some useful information here, the book is too basic for anyone who has bought a house or two or knows a little about real estate. The worst part, however, is that it reads like no one bothered to spell check it. There is a typo or glaring error of grammar every 15 pages or so ("now" instead of "know" "than" instead of "then"). Don't know if I want advice from someone who writes this poorly.

One of the biggest misconceptions about house flipping is it requires a great deal of money and paperwork. After reading this book, I learned that house flipping is not just for the wealthy and well-connected. Fast Real Estate Profits in Any Market breaks down the flipping process into easily understood segments.
I found the chapter devoted to the legal end of house flipping especially helpful because this area tends to overwhelm and discourage people who are interested in house flipping. Four different types of mortgages are described, along with tips to help you present an impressive picture of yourself to potential lenders. The chapter also includes samples of standard legal documents commonly used in the industry, including a deed of sale and a contractor agreement. This allows the reader to review these documents at their leisure so that they are not shell-shocked when confronted with them during the house flipping process. This book also includes a detailed chapter about what to look for in a potential house and an extensive glossary of legal and financial terms. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in house flipping, but is nervous about the legal and financial aspects of the process. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-10-27 07:21:24 EST)

Sebastian Howell begins the book with an explanation of why real estate is a great field to make a lot of money in. Howell also tries to present as many cons as possible, in order to make sure the reader knows the risks involved. While the benefits and reward can be very high, the risks are also pretty high, and Howell wants to make sure you understand that.
The only real problem I had with the book is the style in which it's written. It feels like it moves all over the place. As a reader, I felt a little put off by the way Howell seemed to jump back and forth. As much as I appreciated that Howell would try to give me all the information I might need to decide if this is the right field for me, I felt that I was asked to think about my decision too many times. If the information in the book isn't enough to put me off, then being told to think about it won't make a difference. Because the book seems very thorough and Howell goes to pains to provide as much detail and explanation as possible, I thought the book valuable for those interested in this type of business. For the person very new to real estate and selling, it should work very well. For those who have a little more experience in the field, you might want to mainly skim and read only those parts you need more help with. As far as tips and secrets go, Howell appears to have done a reasonable job. There are many tips that the first-timer, especially, may not think of or know to think about. Of course, unless you have been in the real estate industry for quite some time, there will always be something you may not know. And, Howell has made a great effort to cover as much information as possible in order to give you the tools to make it in this business. There is even an extensive glossary in the back of the book for those who are unfamiliar with different real estate-related terms. All in all, I would recommend this book for those who are seriously interested in making this a full-time business. As Howell says, there is a lot of money to be made if you do it right. And I think this book will help those who want to do it right...even if they aren't more familiar with the industry than the average home owner. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-08-29 06:57:20 EST)
