In the 3rd of the Kanner Lake series, the action and thrills begin with the first pages, and keep right on going to the end. I usually get tired of a 'series' of books, but each one of Brandilyn's is unique, and can be read seperately from the rest of the books in the series without losing anything. However, I would recommend that you read them all...because if you like suspense...you will not regret it! Another great book! I don't know how the author does it, but she has a gift for being a great fiction/suspense writer, and this book is just one more book to prove that point.

Secrets from the past come back to haunt. Lies and deceit follow where ever we go. For Carla Radling, her buried secret just happens to be intertwined with a powerful presidential candidate. The choices she made 16 years ago come rushing back to her when a perspective client turns out to be a well paid hit man. Fleeing for her life, Carla finds herself reliving her past, searching for a way to survive for the future. However, someone else knows her secret and after years of living with the guilt, Tanya Evan's ready to tell the truth, but will she live long enough to do so?
Crimson Eve is a powerful book focused on choices. The decisions we make can have far reaching effects and this book paints those effects in brilliant color. The decisions of Carla Radling, stand as a bold example to all who try to use deceit and lies to gain what they desire. It also stands as a beautiful example of God's forgiveness. At times it's hard to believe that someone would make the choices that Carla made, however, I think we all have our secrets we'd like no one to know. We've all made decisions based on our own best interest, and we've all told a few lies to help our own cause. This book is a great reminder of how lives can be destroyed as a result of one lie that compounds into many. It's also a great reminder of God's knowledge, presence, and forgiveness. Kanner Lake realtor Carla Radler has a nibble. Possibly a whole bite. She's positively elated about the chance to sell Edna San's estate to a tall, dark, and handsome. But Carla keeps her poise in front of this charming man with rich brown eyes. When she learns that this British gentleman with a cocky James Bond attitude will pay cash if he likes the place, she really gets excited. Who wouldn't?
What Carla soon finds out is that things are not as they seem. Fast forward to a phone call at Bailey Truitt's coffee shop, Java Joint. Carla's in more trouble than Bailey knows. She can't let Bailey know what's going on. What if the phone lines are tapped? Carla's run for her life takes a desperate turn. No one can know where she is. No one. Or he'll kill them too. Brandilyn Collins reveals the secrets of Kanner Lake residents one by one in this series. In Crimson Eve, she again mixes real-life with fiction in her references to a real blog called Scenes and Beans, which is based in a fictional coffee shop called Java Joint. She has woven another well-paced suspense in Kanner Lake, only this time we leave town. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-26 06:23:20 EST)

"Crimson Eve," the third book in Brandilyn Collins' Kanner Lake Series, is, simply and truly, a great book... terrific suspense, an underlying tribute to faith, and well-crafted characters, about whom a reader cares (or, in some cases, hates). Having read and enjoyed all of Ms. Collins' novels, this is her very best. To use a cliché, 'a real page-turner!' My wife and I highly recommend "Crimson Eve," and we eagerly await the fourth and final installment of the Kanner Lake Series.

I loved this book. It grabbed me and I started running and couldn't stop until I was finished with the story. This is fast constant action and I enjoyed it very much. Brandilyn writes with good description and you are right there pushing her characters, trying to help them stay out of trouble.

A woman on the run from a dangerous secret. Another woman, with a key to open the mystery. And men desperate to shut them down before positions of power are shaken at their foundations. Hmm. This could play right into some of the things we see in politics nowadays.
The amazing thing about "Crimson Eve" is that Brandilyn Collins takes high stakes and big concepts and fits them into a small-town story. She stays focused on the characters who have so much to lose, rather than turning this into an over-the-top political thriller. Once again, we start out in Kanner Lake (boy, this town sees a lot of action), but Collins wisely detours into outlying areas, allowing us a break from that besieged town, while keeping us in touch with some of our beloved friends from previous books. She does this in ways that seem fitting to the story, never forced. The first two Kanner Lake books were mysteries with some great suspense. This book is a full-speed-ahead thriller, with some mystery thrown in. I was reminded a number of times of Harlan Coben (one of my favorite authors). Sometimes, Coben comes up with so many twists that it seems almost too much. Here, too, Collins uses some story ideas that push that edge of credulity, considering the four or five people all complicit to make this mystery work. Never fear, though, Collins is a master at her craft and she has us buying into this conspiracy theory while also relating deeply to the struggles of her main characters. She uses diary excerpts to great effect, allowing us to understand what has gone before, and what is to come. I don't know how Collins keeps coming up with these great stories. She's consistent. The stories are fast-paced. And the characters come to life. When it comes to Christian suspense, Collins is one of those leading the charge. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-09 10:50:20 EST)

Plain and simple, this story blew me away. The suspense had me anxious through the majority of the story. If I bit my nails they would've been chewed to the quick. Carla's tragedy and heartache kept me turning the pages. So many lies, so much pain, and such an awesome tale that I will be thinking for months about the ramifications of the plot that kept my head spinning. This was an incredible tale of intrigue and deception, lust and greed, power and evil personified.
Crimson Eve was an awesome story crafted with the best suspense I've ever read. Brandilyn has created a masterpiece with this novel and her insight into the heart and wickedness of man is impressive. I'm truly amazed at how much I learned from the hard lessons that Carla endured. And in regards to in-your-face edgy content, this story packs a powerful punch. I can't recommend this story highly enough. It's downright fabulous! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-17 00:14:06 EST)

Brandilyn Collins fans need to get this book now! By far her best, she hits the ground running and doesn't let up until the bittersweet end. Crimson Eve contains a powerfully human bad guy, so much so, that I found myself almost pulling for him to get away, disappear and start over. The heroine, full of secrets and sorrows, takes us on a journey into her past while she literally runs for her life. Big honken chickens, you might be able to read this one. The gore is amped down a notch on the gag-o-meter, and the tension, though humming throughout, played a background score to the characters struggles. As an original writer for Brandilyn's promotional blog featuring the characters from the Kanner Lake series, Scenes and Beans, I've been privileged to have a part in this wonderful series. This third book, Crimson Eve, is in my opinion the best of the series so far.
Instead of starting with a murder, this book opens with someone trying to murder realtor, Carla Radling. Carla finds herself on the run, not fully understanding the reason why . . . until she finds her house has been searched and the diary holding the secrets of her past was still hidden in her closet. In Brandilyn's usual fast-paced style, the story kicks into high gear until the exciting climax. People do die in the book. What Brandilyn Collins book would be complete without some dead bodies? LOL But on the way, Carla, thinking she is all alone in what could be her last battle in life, learns she has true friends in Kanner Lake, those who are willing to risk their lives in order to help her. No matter what her secrets or mistakes are. Plus she finds the Friend who is above all others. I highly recommend this series, and especially this book, to all readers of mystery and suspense. But don't forget to fasten your seat belt! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-20 18:16:22 EST)

Crimson Eve is the third book in the Kanner Lake series by Brandylin Collins, and is my favorite. Carla Radling, a minor character in the first two books, is a realtor and showing a house to a suave British millionaire. Carla thinks the showing is going great until the handsome man drops the British accent and pulls a gun. Carla makes a split-second decision that saves her life and she manages to escape. But she can't go far. The assassin contacts her via phone and tells her she can trust no one, even the police. And if she does try and get help, those that help her will be in danger too. That's the set-up for the woman-in-jeapordy plot line. As with the first two novels in the series, there is a lot more going on, and Collins weaves in the other storylines effortlessly.
Tanya Evans returned home after a long day only to see a man in her living room. He threatens Tanya to not say a word about a secret she has harbored for years. If she does, she will die. Carla is on the run, and her friends in Kanner Lake begin to notice her absence. Fiesty reporter Leslie Brymes can't help but try and get to the bottom of the story. And perhaps most compelling, Carla's secret. Carla thought she had escaped her past, but her past wouldn't let her forget. We learn about Carla's tragic teenage years through her own diary. While some of it is predictable, there are enough twists and turns to make you flip the pages as fast as you can. Taking the novel in as a whole, I don't think there is anything truly new, but Collins takes all the pieces and throws them together perfectly. Collins also gives this novel higher stakes, with Carla's fate affecting the entire country. This is a fun series and is scheduled to end with the next book, Amber Morn. While I'd love this series to go on past four books, how much tragedy can really happen in one town? Collins fans will love this book. Those considering reading this book should definitely start at the beginning of the series and not because you wouldn't be able to understand Crimson Eve, but because it is so much fun reading about Kanner Lake and its characters. Crimson Eve by Brandilyn Collins is the third book in the Kanner Lake series, and while it doesn't pack the punch of the first two books, it's still a fantastic read! Carla Radling, Kanner Lake real estate agent, takes a dashing Englishman to look at a reclusive property, but instead of buying the house, he tries to make Carla buy the farm! (Sorry, couldn't help myself) She manages to spray the hitman with pepper spray and get away, but with his threat to kill anyone she asks for help, she flees to Washington trying to figure out who wants her dead and how to save herself from this methodical hunter. The story is told alternating chapters between Carla's run for her life and her diary from when she was 16 years-old that holds the secret to the killer's motive. Along the way Carla learns she can trust in the Lord when there is no one else she can count on. Collins never fails to deliver a visceral thriller with a message. Don't start this one late at night, and don't read it when home alone!

Crimson Eve is my favorite in the Kanner Lake Series so far. I could not put this book down! Brandilyn Collins weaves just the right mix of suspense, intrigue, dynamic characters, and familiarity to make this a very satisfying read, right to the end. Normally I tend to read slow, but I finished this book in three days. Absolutely loved the way Collins revealed the mystery in this one.
Once again you find yourself back in Kanner Lake, but not for long. This story takes its main character Carl Radling on the road trip of her life--for her life! The past comes to haunt her in a truly unique way. Page by page this book keeps you guessing, and wanting more. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-19 08:10:21 EST)

As a fan of the Kanner Lake series, I eagerly anticipated the release of _Crimson Eve_, and I was not disappointed at all. Brandilyn's talent for weaving threads of deep spiritual truth into nail-biting stories shines even more in this, the third book of the series.
Carla Radling, Kanner Lake's beloved realtor, must face a horrendous past in the midst of a deadly present. Cut off from all who can help her, she must try to survive long enough to find out why someone would want to kill her. This is a fast-paced read. I recently took a quick airline trip and finished the whole thing on the plane and during layovers. I could not put it down. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-18 04:24:53 EST)

"I recently traveled to Denmark carrying Brandilyn Collin's new book Crimson Eve for company. It is easier to read if you don't place the book into a checked bag. However, this became a blessing when my body arrived in Copenhagen but my circadian rhythms were out of synchronization. I opened to the first page and began reading about 1 am. My sleep sensors finally kicked in about 4 am but the book kept me reading until after 5. The story captures you immediately by a beginning incident in the first chapter and then entices you to continue to "just one more chapter." I'm not sure how the main character made it through to the end since I thought that she was a "goner" on numerous occasions. After I awoke at eleven, I deviously convinced my wife to list the sights we were intending to see while I finished the book. This book is the best in the series. In some ways, you have moved through the book so fast, you feel a mite out of breath, maybe even a crimson color. I think that it is wise to read it in a quiet environment but with someone else in the room.
If you take it with you on vacation, be sure to put it in your carry-on bag." Marvin (Walnut Creek, CA) (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-14 10:21:56 EST)

Fasten your seat belts for another great ride with Brandilyn Collins in Crimson Eve. From the first moment when Carla Radling realizes her life is in danger from the secrets of her past to the moment of conclusion, you are caught up in the intricacies only Brandilyn can devise. With Carla on the run, her friends in Kanner Lake seek to find her and help her escape whatever it is that is driving her away from them. The closer you think you are to the truth, the more twists are thrown in to drive you off track. How it all comes together makes for a truly satisfying ending, but do expect a few dead bodies along the way. Fast paced action and characters give this novel all the ingredients for a wild, but satisfying journey back to Kanner Lake.

If you have never read a Brandilyn Collins novel.
You are in for a great read. This book is the 3rd in her Kanner Lake series. The picture in the front of each chapter of a rearview mirror is so approriate. You will, along with the character in the book, have a sense of her always looking behind her to see if "he's coming"! I would highly recommend this along with any other book by Brandilyn Collins. This would make the perfect book for a vacation, plane ride or any other time you might have, to be swept away into a world of suspense. Also, be aware that even if you have not read the first two books in this series that while they lend depth to the story they are not essential to enjoying this book. You'd better buckle your seatbelt for this fast-paced suspense novel. Crimson Eve is the 3rd novel of the Kanner Lake series. Carla is a realator with a past full of lies and deceit, who has left the past behind. However, as the Bible says: "Be sure your sins will find you out". Her past life comes barreling at her at breakneck speed, spinning her life out of control. Someone from her past is trying to kill her, but why? She has never told a soul what occurred.
This is by far the best novel out of the Kanner Lake series. I really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this book to any adult. Also, I would recommend this for teens around the age of 15-18, because there is an excellent lesson to learn about the mistakes that teenagers could and should avoid. I can hardly wait until Amber Morn (4th novel of the Kanner Lake series) comes out!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-03 23:25:09 EST)
