The Power of Intention

Intention is generally viewed as a pit-bull kind of determination propelling one to succeed at all costs by never giving up on an inner picture. In this view, an attitude that combines hard work with an indefatigable drive toward excellence is the way to succeed. However, intention is viewed very differently in this book. Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has researched intention as a force in the universe that allows the act of creation to take place. This book explores intention—not as something you do—but as an energy you’re a part of. We’re all intended here through the invisible power of intention. This is the first book to look at intention as a field of energy that you can access to begin co-creating your life with the power of intention.
Part I deals with the principles of intention, offering true stories and examples on ways to make the connection. Dr. Dyer identifies the attributes of the all-creating universal mind of intention as creative, kind, loving, beautiful, expanding, endlessly abundant, and receptive, explaining the importance of emulating this source of creativity. In Part II, Dr. Dyer offers an intention guide with specific ways to apply the co-creating principles in daily life. Part III is an exhilarating description of Dr. Dyer’s vision of a world in harmony with the universal mind of intention.
After years of spiritual study and reflection, inspirational speaker and bestselling author Wayne Dyer has emerged a highly esteemed teacher. His current message about tapping into the power of intention may sound like good old positive thinking: just stay focused on what you want, rather than focusing on the lack of having what you want. But the teaching here goes deeper than just controlling thoughts (although he does acknowledge that thought control is a surprisingly challenging and significant endeavor). This book might help readers land a better job, but it's more relevant for those who are ready to detach from an ego-driven life filled with quick fixes of happiness and step into a more authentic, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling life. His core teachings speak to tapping into a universal source of energy that can also be called the "power of intention." He calls people who are consciously co-creating with this energy source "connectors" and describes them as "individuals who have made themselves available for success...They don't say With my luck things won't work out. Instead, you?re more likely to hear something like, I intend to create this and I know it will work out." Connectors are also committed to Dyer's "seven faces of intention"--creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity, which he speaks to throughout the book. Each chapter concludes with five suggestions for becoming stronger connectors, such as how to monitor one's inner speech or shift out of low-energy beliefs. Some criticize Dyer for not giving credit to other teachers who offer this same message, especially Jerry and Esther Hicks (A New Beginning I) and even Ralph Waldo Emerson. It's impossible to know whether this was a deliberate omission, but it is obvious that Dyer has tapped into a growing conversation about co-creating with "source." Other leading-edge voices in this conversation include Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now), Shakti Gawain (Creative Visualization ) and Lynn Grabhorn (Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting). --Gail Hudson

I've been into the self-help books since I was 20, today I am 34 and I've read 200 (or more) books of this kind (including almost all books from "the law of attraction"), so after so many years reading so much rubbish my mind was very confused and my life too. On the financial realm, I got a enourmous debt, on the professional realm, I got only stress and more stress and a unhappy job, the more I "tryed" to use the secret and others "tools" (like Dyer Japa meditation to manifestation...) the more my life sunk.

I made all the mantras they say here, and believe me, nothing happened, no wait, my financial situation actually got worse!!!

One day, in deep depression I collapsed, and I did what I should have done 10 years ago, going to a psychologist, a real professional about our mind health.

Only when I started to visit a "real" psychologist, my life startet to turn to a "real" good life, a better work, making theaters clases to learn how the be an actor (what a always wanted since I was 16, but never had the courage to do it), and so on. Today I can say I have a happy life, because, and I quote, I live in the "real" world right now, I am working hard to change my financial situation, and I know it will take a long time to fix the mess I made following so many self-"help" books.

Do you know what the secret really is? And nobody from the self-help business want you to know??????

YOU DON'T NEED THEIR BOOKS TO HAVE A HAPPY LIFE!!!

If you are confused about your life, or you don't know what path follow to have a better life as I was so many years ago, instead of reading this "be happy now" books, go to a psychologist, or to a certified life-coach, and you will see that after fixing the mess you have in your head, your life will be "the mirror" that will reflect a better life for you, in the "real" world.

The only self-help books I found very useful after all this years of research, are from Dr. Martin Seligman, Dr. David Burns and Tony Robbins, they talk about the real life but even their books won't replace any therapist.

This kinds of books are like the tv comercials that say "lose weight fast and get a body like this in 10 days!", are you really sure you want to put your mental health (this books cause depression in the long term) in risk and spend your time trying this? It's very attractive to the people that feels lost, but thanks to God there are people that "really" know how to help others.

You could ask me, do you have a explanation for the people that get "lucky" and win the lottery for example? No, I don't have it, and honestly, I don't think any of us could "really" know about it, but the real question is: from the people that have a happy life, 90% worked hard to get it (to have a healhy body, financial stability, loving relationship...), and 10% got "lucky" (won the lottery, etc...), so if you were in a cassino betting your life, in which place you would bet? Why try the path of the few winners??? Why don't try the path of the people that with patience and endurance works for a better life for them and for others around them?

I hope this review is helpfull to you trying to understand what is all this fuzz about this book and dvd.

God bless you all.

A well-written book and easy read, pointing out that living life with intention is truly the key to getting that life of joy and abundance. It is basically the principles of The Secret... aka The Law of Attraction. Choose those thoughts of appreciation, desire and thankfulness and the universe will bring you the life you want. It's about living consciously and taking responsibility for your life. Meditation is the tool that has really transformed my life. Read this book and then get a fabulous meditation CD by the author of the popular-selling book, Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook, called Living The Secret Everyday:My Secret Mediation to keep reminding you to be mindful and conscious. It is life-changing.

I had the DVD but wanted to get it on cassete tapes to listen to more often. The tapes were the same title but the information was presented differently and didn't have the same impact as the DVD.
The tape is metaphysical and encourages an awareness of the source of life, health & prosperity. Examines who we are, where we came from and where we're going. If the premise is exercised daily it should reduce stress and help us achieve our goals. Not a religious tape but incorporates spirituality from many sources.

Dr. Wayne Dyer's works are truly remarkable. The Power of Intension is no exception in my opinion. Dyer, never makes any attempt to claim that he discovered, or has any rights to the concept, in fact Dyer is simply translating the most ancient phylisophical ideas into words that we, as Westerners can comprhend. If read thoughtfully Dyer explains that despite the most horribe occurances that can befall us such as death, natural disaster, etc. that these events happen for a reason that often times leads us toward our vision (for good, or for bad). Although what Dyer has to say is not unique, it is undeniably a universal truth that offers a refreshing alternative to living every day as you did the day before. In this book Dyer offers thinking strategies that will help you appreciate the true blessing of what it means to be alive and the joy and curiousity that you haven't felt since you were a child.

I came across "The Power of Intention" for the first time a couple of years ago and was impressed by the contradictory nature of Dr Dyer. He appeared utterly ego-centric while advising us of the importance of giving up this very way of thinking. In addition, he seemed to place an emphasis on "success" that seemed very worldly indeed. This angered me, and I dismissed him out-of-hand.

A couple of years later I watched the same program, listening closely to what he was trying to teach rather than listening to him. His program was quite thought-provoking and inspirational for me, a person with limited exposure to the ideas he presented. Dr Dyer's synthesis of his own extensive reading list brings a sense of joy to the process of spiritual growth. His very human presentation reminds us that while not perfect, we can bring many good things to our lives and the lives of others.

I just bought this book in cd version and I'm LOVING it. I'm getting over a Power Of Now trip that I had been on which basically involved thinking that the present is all there is and nothing else matters. I actually owed this book and threw it away along with many others because of my spiritual breakthrough with Echarts work.

This book is linking up unseen events and really confirms my feelings of the unknown. Things just seem to work out for me and my life gets better and better because I'm going against the grain. Thought is very powerful...I had thought that it was useless to a large degree, but now I'm back on track. This book is beyond valuable...worth more than its weight in gold.

Please get this book and allow your mind to soak in the wisdom and guidance.

(Hide Review...)  A critical review of Wayne Dyer and his
Reviewer Permalink
Check out this critical review of Wayne Dyer. It brings up some good points.

[...]

The article above makes some good points. Why do such wonderful and wise New Age gurus who want to transform lives make their teachings only available to the wealthy? Why not make them affordable to the poor too? Gee, I'm sure there's no ulterior motive in that. (sarcastic)

The same goes for Deepak Chopra. What's hypocritical is that both Dyer and Chopra teach the abandonment of one's ego and promote non-materialist values, yet they both charge thousands of dollars to appear in public seminars, and their books sell for an average of around $30 each! Definitely not for the poor or those on a tight budget. Anyone can see in their PBS seminars that the studio audience members appear to be upper middle class and above.

Isn't that ironic?

Could it also be that their "thought creates reality" teaching sells to the upper class because it allows them to take credit for their riches and status, whereas such concepts do not sell to the poor who have a more practical view of reality?

Fascinating. (as Spock would say)

Perhaps what they teach only works in making the rich feel better about themselves, but doesn't offer anything of use for the poor or struggling class who deal with harsh everyday realities. After all, it's easy to those with sheltered lives to sit, meditate and try to "manifest abundance" when they already have it. And it's easier for the rich to "create reality" with their "thoughts" than it is for the poor, because they already have the resources to "manifest their reality" of course.

Nevertheless, many poor people believe in the "thought creates reality" concept as well (e.g. pot smoking hippies, alternative/holistic-oriented youngsters, etc.)

But what I can't figure out is why Deepak Chopra is successful. With Wayne Dyer, it's understandable, because he's charming, personable, charismatic, and has a likable endearing persona as well as a gentle tender father figure image. And he's easy to follow, his voice captivates you and his personality is engaging. But Chopra's voice is dry, dull and monotone. And his personality is not engaging, captivating or charismatic. In fact, there are millions of well read spiritualists in India just like him with the exact same knowledge. So there is no logical reason why Chopra should be successful or famous in his field.

Nevertheless, neither of them seem to be good at logic or common sense. For instance, they can't answer these simple 15 questions of mine about the "thought creates reality" teaching, which are never addressed in their books and seminars. Using simple everyday examples, I show in these questions why their core teaching falls flat on its head.

[...]

Perhaps they aren't as interested in "truth" as they would have you think. Perhaps they too are only interested in what "sells". Thus they are prone to the same human frailties as you and I. So perhaps we should not put them up too high on the pedestal.

PS - By the way, I just heard that Wayne Dyer got divorced a few years ago, after being married for 20 years to his wife and having 7 children with her. She left him for another man.

Very sad and unfortunate of course. He has my sympathy. But you gotta ask, if his thoughts and intentions create his reality (his core teaching), then how is it that after 20 years of "thinking" that he has a wonderful marriage and family, that his wife would leave him for another man? Why didn't his thoughts keep the "reality" of his wonderful marriage going?

Dr. Wayne Dyer writes with intention about the power of intention. This book is extreemly helpful for anyone wanting to understand the power of the law of attraction and how it really works. It is from a spiritual perspective rather than a scientific perspective which I found to be a breath of fresh air when I read it. Dr. Dyer uses affirmation exercises throughout the book to help individuals achieve better lives. This is a great book to use to get started on your own personal journey.

Wayne Dyer is writing about good intentions from his perspective. I agree whole heartedly with what he says and I think this is one of his best works. If some of you wish to come from a negative intention, then you will reap negative rewards. I prefer to come from positive intentions because I have already proven that the positive thought process has worked so many, many times in my life. None of us has all the answers to every situation that life throws at us, but as we learn to live our lives in the best possible attitude of intentions that we can muster up, we will surely discover that life, although extremely hard at times, does have its up sides.

We can wallow in self pity for only so long and then we have to realize at some point in our lives that we have to drag ourselves up out of the mire of despair and despondency and start living a better life. A better life is at hand when we learn to set our priorities higher, live with a positive intention factor, learn to laugh instead of always whining, and reach out a helping hand to those who don't quite "get it".

Thank you Wayne Dyer for your uplifting, wonderful attitude. You have helped me get through some tough times and now I know how to set my intentions at a higher level and live a more fulfilling life, even though I still have my ups and downs, I come through them much easier and can laugh at even myself.

Reviewer Permalink
I agree with the reviewer that had reservations about the book. Being that if what the author writes its true, that theoretically if you were to drop the book into a 3rd world country it would follow that those peoples lives would improve if they applied and accepted these truths.

To address the comment made about the Tsunami victims. Dyer in the beginning of the book, talks about how he accepts the weather as it is because it is all part of the source and the world we have been blessed to live in. So what about when disasters strike? Tornadoes, hurricanes, and people are killed by them? Dyer does not tackle these questions anywhere.

Nor does Dyer discuss why bad things happen to good people. I am not a Christen fundamentalist in the least, but at least in the Power of Positive thinking, the author talks about staying positive even through the worst of times. Dyre implies that there will not be bad times if you stay in touch with the source. Would this mean that everyone who was ever killed by a natrual disaster were not in touch with the source?

My final problem is on page 207, Dyre states that everything that has ever happened to us "This is your past, and whatever your energy level at the time, whatever your needs, whatever your station in life, you attracted the right people and events to you..." If this statement he makes is true, and everything happened in the past exactly as it should, then why am I reading his book? In other words, I thought the point for getting in touch with the source and intention was to make my life better? If nothing was ever wrong all along, then whats the point of the power of intention.

All this being said, I believe the book is outstanding, and I beg anyone to get me past my reservations above because I want to believe it...

(Hide Review...)  You have more power than you think
Reviewer Permalink
I disagree with others' reviews that Dyer is a pseudo-evangelist or preachy, etc. He uses words like "God," "Source" and "Universe" interchangeably, not because he is diminishing their "value" as words, but because in his view they mean the same thing but a person who does not believe in "God," per se, may not feel comfortable thinking of "God" as a higher power. The bottom line is that these are words. Arbitrary definitions of concepts that are difficult at best to explain using human vocabulary and logic.

The deeper, and I believe more important message from the book, is that we have more power over ourselves than we think we do. We just don't tap into it. Whether you believe that your power comes from within yourself or "God," "Source," whatever, is irrelevant, at least in my opinion. Dyer believes we are connected to God/Source because we were created in that image. Therefore, we are a "piece of God" as he says. We are not God ourselves, but if we attempt to tap into the gifts we were given, we will see that power manifest more and more.

I have personally used visualization to manifest something that eventually happened in my life. After reading this book I was more convinced that I can learn to stop letting others control me. People are so worried about everything everyone else thinks about them. We spend so much time obsessing over other people or things we have no control over, that we waste valuable time and energy that could be better spent living out our passions. Dyer teaches the reader to be grateful, even for the hard times. If you've read Eckhart Tolle's books, he echoes much of what Tolle rights, except in much less complex language. If you have read about Law of Attraction and/or The Secret, then this book is an excellent supplement to that as well.

Dyer's main message is that you don't have to live your life for other people, you don't have to live your life hoping and wishing that things could be better. You don't have to worry all the time about things that will probably never happen. He encourages the reader to "untrain" our brains into thinking about the good stuff. If you keep thinking about the bad stuff, then you'll just keep getting more of it. He wants you to feel good. Isn't that what we all want? Doesn't mean you are God. Doesn't mean you hurt other people to get what you want. Doesn't mean you think about something and the next day it shows up. You have to work at it. It's a process. But it can and will work. I feel SO much more calm, positive, centered, and focused after reading books like this and Tolle, and doing meditation (not Dyer's--I recommend "The Secret Mediation" by Kelly Howell). Recently my Mom even said she couldn't get over how relaxed I seemed, how different (in a good way). I told her, "I can choose to be angry and bitter or I can choose to make the best out of a difficult situation." And you know what? The more I thought that, the more I felt it. It does work--you just have to stop holding yourself back.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by life, if you "what if" everything to death, etc. this is a great book to read.

(Hide Review...)  The Rantings of a Televangelist on Paper.
Reviewer Permalink
If you put in a bag the words spirit, intention, field, God, source & intelligence, and then shook the bag you would recreate this book The Power of Intention which for all intents and purposes is nothing more than the workings of an undisciplined mind. The introduction and opening chapters hold promise filled as they are with profound quotations and based on the premise that mind can effect matter through intention. But the reader is quite soon struck by the realization that he is bearing witness to the rantings of a televangelist.

Indeed throughout this book we are told things like "God is writing this book through me"; "Trust yourself as a piece of God"; "Practice Japa meditation or the repetition of the sound of God" and most peculiar, "Even an atheist doesn't have to believe in God to experience God".

The central problem with the good doctor's thesis is taking the now extensively documented scientific evidence for the human ability to influence the physical world through conscious thought and intention and linking this to a literal "field of intention" emanating from a supreme being. He cites for example Lynne McTaggart's book The Field, one predicated on finding the science behind this human ability. Yet nowhere in this or in her later book The Intention Experiment does the word God appear in its indexes.

Dr. Dyer wants us to believe that "everything in the universe has intention built into it". This omnipresence has `seven faces' the essence of which is that God loves you. This logic leads to the notion that there is an all creating universal mind of intention indeed an `original designer' for all manifestation and we can connect to it or intend to come into being any experience or thing we want for ourselves simply by choice. Willpower, drive and perseverance is replaced since our goals all pre-exist: think them and they will appear. There is no need for the concept of evolution in this world where the Flint Stone's are a documentary in which humans and dinosaurs exist simultaneously each a mere choice to experience on the world stage.

As part of this religious drama the author puts forth the absurd contention that the higher octaves on a piano are better than the lower ones because higher pitches vibrate faster and are therefore more spiritually informed. This medicine of higher pitch applies to musical character as well: "Harsh pounding musical vibrations with repetitive, loud sounds lower your energy level and weaken your ability to make conscious contact with intention." Pg. 75. We must now burn all recordings of Igor Stravinsky and Bruce Springsteen.

Within Dr. Dyer's `gated community' of the mind and spirit his cartoon for living includes banning commercial & cable television, alcohol in any form, choosing alkaline rather than acidic foods and also finding people who are connected to God. Yoga, massage, and visits to monasteries and geriatric centers are advised. Dyer seems to treat emotions in the very Baroque sense, a historical period when nature of all kinds was to be controlled and molded into various contrivances: Palace hedges cut in the shape of animals, each emotion distinct from another, thought and feeling, mind and body polar opposites. The ego itself so intrinsic to healthy personality development subject to mental jujitsu surgically cutting out the `bad' parts.

Central to this author's misperception is the notion that phenomena like emotions or musical compositions can be reduced to distinct singular properties. On the contrary nothing is more complex than an emotion nuanced by all manner of shadings, multiple meanings and quite non-static impacts that evolve and change as we process them. It is simply preposterous to advocate music devoid of low vibrations and repetitive rhythm. Equally so to strive for a constant state of happiness in a Disneyesque world scripted by Steven Spielberg.

Having produced over 30 books Dyer's chapters in this one take on a boring formulaic style concluding each and every one with a multiple step program for change and for summarizing chapter contents. My advice to prospective readers of this book is to direct every one of your own steps away from making this purchase.

There are two serious flaws in this book. The first is related to language. Words are either not defined or they are use differently than ordinary English usage. Even the word "intention" is used somewhat strangely. What exactly is this "source"? The second flaw has to do with knowing. Mr. Dyer makes many bold assertions but that's all they are - assertions. What is the basis? How does he know what he knows? Quoting from a few spiritual thinkers is not a basis for knowing. Therefore, these ideas are without a epistemological base. It appears that Mr. Dyer has sensed the presence of God and that there is eternity written in his heart. But his knowledge of God is vague and incomplete and thus appears in strange ways. It reminds me of Paul on Mars Hill commenting on the statue of the unknown God. For those who wish to read more along this line thinking I would recommend the book "Eternity in Their Hearts".

I just finished reading this book which was given to me by a friend. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I think there are some very obvious techniques, and certainly not all of this information is new (The Secret, The AMazing Power of Deliberate Intent, A New Earth, ect, but this is very concise about how to train your mind to relanguage things. By relanguage things, I mean to look for the positive, or at least an appeasing explanation for things to snap you out of bad feelings, stress, anger, whatever. One of my favorite stories is of a grandfather talking to his grandson telling him" I have two wolves barking insode of me. The first wolf is filled with anger, hatred, bitterness, and mostly revenge. The second wolf is filled with love, kindness, compassion, and mostly forgiveness." The grandson asks "Which wolf do you think will win?" To which the grandfather responds 'Whichever one I feed". THere are many nuggets throughout and you can focus on one area of your life at a time or just determine a new way of being who you are, or at least who you were meant to be.

Fortunately, I've known one of Wayne Dyer's wives (out of 4?), who he treated as a posession --- no leaving the hotel while he's working, no socializing without him, no learning to drive, and other emotional abuse.

Just wanted you'all to know what a phoney he is.

If someone gets some help out of his messages, it's in spite of him. Kindness is great, but know that you can be kind/generous/peaceful/etc without Wayne's inspiration --- aka guru complex. I think hi$ Hawaii e$tate $um$ it up -- it's a great gig if you can get it.

Skip Wayne, and go straight for the Dalai Lama, Geri Larkin's 'Stumbling Toward Enlightenment', or any of the 'regular folks' who make a more honest living.

This book truly changed my life. I started reading it when I was going through a very hard time in my life, where I just wanted to give up on everything. Dr. Dyer has really made me come to appreciate everything in my life, even the little things, immensely. I suggest this book to anyone who is trying to find their divine purpose, or to anyone who is just going through a funk. The words within these pages are incredibly inspiring.

I've followed Wayne for quite some time and have come to wonder if he has ever had an original thought. Early on in my exploration I was awed by what he had to say, however, as I have read more broadly and deeply, I have seen that he is not a spiritual master, but a spiritual repackager.

One of the persons he has numerously repackaged is Alan Watts. In fact, I could refer to him as Watered-down-Watts Wayne. Ha. I digress. You will find great delight, insight, and practicality in Alan Watts' Tao: The Watercourse Way, The Way of Zen, The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are, (and even) The Wisdom of Insecurity. In these fine writings, in my opinion, you will find one of Wayne's main sources. Check out Watts, you shan't be disappointed.

As for Wayne, he's 67 or so, and he is still SEARCHING?? Hmmm. My prediction: his next book and PBS special will be even greater and more profound than his last, now that he is really enlightened...or so he will say. Wayne, I know that writing is who you are, but does that mean you have to turn every journal into another book?

Walk on!

Wayne Dyer builds a bridge between science, religion, and spirituality with The Power of Intention. This is a very uplifting explanation of how and why to BE in the world. Using wonderful metaphors and stories, The Power of Intention lays out a very broad and firm foundation for everyone on the spiritual path -- whether they've been traveling the path for years, or only just begun.

In this book, Wayne Dyer uses his insight to tie together concepts that are familiar to all of us, though understood by only a few. Readers of this book will come away with a greater understanding of the power of their own thoughts and emotions to create each moment of their life -- for better or worse. Readers will also gain a deeper understanding of how their thoughts can help, or hinder, others traveling their own paths.

I think all of Wayne Dyer's books are "must reads;" but this is one of the more comprehensive and useful books yet. Great book. Five-stars.

I was first introduced to Dr. Wayne Dyer about 17 years ago. My mother gave me one of his books and his methods helped me through some tough times in my life. As I continue to grow and learn Dr. Dyer's books keep re-affirming we have most of the answers to our own challenges, we just need a little help unlocking them. The power of intention gives you such a good feeling about your own personal power. This book inspires us to help others through our own growth, it becomes self feeding positive energy that lasts. Who would I recommend this book to? Everybody on the planet. Wayne Dyers books touch people's hearts like no one else, he's truly gifted in his approach and delivery.

(Hide Review...)  For Those Who Want to Manifest in a More Spiritual Way
Reviewer Permalink
I have followed Wayne Dyer for years and admire him a great deal. And it has been an honor to watch as he continues to deepen his understanding of manifesting the life you want in a way that helps you stay connected with spiritual principles. In fact, much of his book inspired my own, Beyond the Secret, which was released this year (2007).

However, warning! If you think you are going to pick up this book and get the same old teaching of how to get whatever you desire, you will most likely be disappointed. Similar to my book,Beyond the Secret, Dyer points out that we need to shift from any attempt to manifest from the ego, to allowing manifestation to come from Spirit. That is what Dyer means by the "power of intention." He uses a metaphor of being on a train and lifting up your hand to hold the strap to steady yourself. Intention is moving into the "field of intention." It is being willing to lift up your hand and let Spirit have a say in the process as you move through life.

If you are clear about this from the start, the book immediately makes a lot more sense. It is easier to understand why you find lists like "Seven Steps for Overcoming the Ego's Hold on You." And phrases like "You Receive What You Desire for Others," "Alone We Can do Nothing."
You understand why he is asking you to understand your connection to Infinity and how your character impacts others around you.

In short, this is a book mainly about self-transformation and the power of intending to transform yourself from an egotistical way of living to a more spiritual approach. If all you are looking for is a primer on how to get what you want no matter what, expect to be disappointed. You might even resent feeling "preached to." But, if you are looking to live a life that is truly worthwhile, then I totally know this book is for you. It will change your life! It did mine. Well worth the read! - Dr. Lisa Love, Beyond the Secret.

In this book, Wayne Dyer gives a valuable resource for those wishing to truly connect with their co-creative power and manifest the life of their desires. With plenty of great examples, this book is sure to help you to not only understand your personal power, but also give you tools to be able to use it in the way that you desire.
If nothing else, this book is useful as a constant resource for centering yourself on those not-so-centered days. I have had the book for quite a while, and I still open it and read a few pages on days when I feel out-of-the-flow with the life I really desire. His chapter on handling your relationship with your relatives is absolutely essential as we go into the holiday season!

People underestimate the power of their intentions, the power of their dreams, the power of their goals and visions. In this popular book by Wayne Dyer you will learn how your desires set the whole universe in motion toward the fulfillment of whatever it is you want to have, do, or be in life. And Dr. Dyer offers practical guidelines for consciously participating in this co-creative process. This is a great book if you find THE SECRET too shallow, or have a hard time accepting the "source" of the information found in ASK AND IT IS GIVEN. It also makes a great pair with another book I love along these same lines called Row, Row, Row Your Boat: A Guide For Living Life In The Divine Flow . . . a book that is even easier to understand and more down-to-earth than most of Wayne Dyer's work.

I respect Wayne Dyer, he has done amazing good in his lifetime. This will be the first book I have read of his and found it a bit average in general. Manifestation of intent is am amazing gift to humanity, but this book merely scratches the service of it, doesn't get into the mechanics of the law surrounding it, and is a bit too preachy and feel goody for me.

I already understood the Law of Attraction, and wanted more mechanics and brass tacks of the operating principles of it, and I didn't find that in this book. You'll find that in Seth or Hicks books instead. What I found in this book was overall a fairly inspiration read that I would rate for beginning spiritual seekers only. Anyone already in the advanced vibration won't find much of anything new here.

Recommended with reservation for beginner spiritual seekers or those very new to manifesting intent.

(Hide Review...)  great book if you choose apply the principles
Reviewer Permalink
This is my favorite Wayne Dyer book....I say that because this is the first book he's written that is actually
useful to me...His other books seemed vague in comparison...To just arbitarily believe something and think you can manifest it had been said before....by Dyer, in an earlier book "See it and You'll Believe it".. But Dr. Dyer has grown since that book and cites many examples where he personally has applied his principles of intention. I've read many other books on positive thinking... This book is different from just trying having positive thoughts..I've found it has helped me learn how to make an actual shift in my personal beliefs about myself. I no longer ponder how I'm going to have something, achieve something or make something work...I
literally and honestly act as if I already have what I desire....I state thoughts to myself as facts...regardless if
they are presently the truth.. I've read the book 3 times...I've highlighted some passages and refer back to them like a daily reminder. I practice with basic things like getting parking spaces in crowded cities...I've
taught this to my very negative friend who has also been able to manifest what she believed was the impossible...This isn't magic....it's not coincidence. It's not synchronicity...It's a very purposeful goal one
focuses on.... The results come from the universe picking up on our energetic messages...and it would just
as soon as pick up a negative message....not judging what we ask for...merely providing our requests. If you're a non believer, I'm not sure
this book would change your life...I was one of those people who was somewhat skeptical...

I've seen Dyer's Power of Intention PBS series...He tells a lot of stories and does so in the book. I gave the
book 4 stars because much of this book is stories I heard on TV. I just bought the book to highlight the
important and relevant information.

Self help books are difficult to get excited about....One has to be sure they want to do the work and be their
own coach... It's not like you can read this and your life changes unless you really want it to change...You must literally change your thoughts, the way you contruct what you're asking for...You must monitor
your own mindless chatter and make the effort to speak to yourself as if you already have reached your
goal.... Most of what happens to people isn't random...Create doubt with your desires and you can't manifest what you really want. It takes practice to develop your consciousness to the level where you can apply it and especially to learn to trust it. And more complicated requests, one must understand, requires that the
universe take many steps before one sees their request granted. This isn't like making a wish or waking
up one morning having everything you ever wanted. It explains why some people seemingly go through life
achieving goals more easily...They don't feed themselves doubt and question "what if".When you are clear and concise with your thoughts, your goal will manifest with ease. But when you are incongruent in your thoughts, you will manifest conflict and obstacles.

But, i agree that if you think the positive way with respect to others, you will get what you've desire, i'm a buddhist, and for all these years, i pratice, inside my soul and learn and gain a lot of things that i ask to be given.......But, believe or not, if you asking something that you want, you have to think of GIVE too, this universe will received your message and arrange it. For instant, you try to plant a watermelon seed, with all the watering and time, you'll have water melon tree, it will not turn into a tomato, "what" you plant is "what" you get, and apply this thinking to your mind and start asking from your heart what you need, start of how to
GIVE them back if you received what you want, then you will start to receive what you asked for, if you do not believe it, just pratice them, you'll be amazed of this theory....

Actually this might be a weird thing to comment on this book but coming from a Christian viewpoint, our 'Source' is God and as I read this book, I felt like I understood how God can work in our lives if we truly see ourselves as 'spiritual beings having a temporary human experience' rather than the other way around. God has an intention for our lives and if we follow his paths, we will find ourselves living a truly fulfilling life. Looking at our 'Source' (God) as having abundance and everything we need, helped me to see that my everyday worries were just a waste of my time and effort. As long as I stayed plugged into God, I will get to exactly where I need to be going. Very positive and focused book.

Reviewer Permalink
The ideas in this book are not new. The first book to discuss intention is a book titled "The Science of Getting Rich." This book was written in the late 1800's and you can find it free if you search for Science of Getting Rich .PDF.

When I first saw Dyer's program on PBS my first thought was that Mr. Dyer read Depok Chopra's books. Then in the PBS program he does acknowledge Depok as his friend.

If you want to have an "ah ha" experience read Depok Chopra's Ageless Body Timeless Mind. It is very eye opening and you will see Depok's influence on Dyer's book.

Even though Dyer's book has ideas and concepts pulled from Depok Chopra, Napolean Hill, and others it is very well done and presented in a clear manner.
