It's been a long while since I bought my last Blacks almost 30 yrs. ago. I wanted my daughter to have the primary tool every law student should have. When it arrived I was immediately struck by the deteriorated quality of the cover, followed by the deteriorated quality of the printing, paper and binding. For a research tool which will hopefully endure constant usage I don't believe it will survive the task.

A wonderful resource for anyone associated with law. Thorough, effortless and exponentially helpful. The hardback version protects the contents from weathering.

If you do legal work at home, this dictionary is essential to have there. As a law student, I have unlimited access to the Westlaw version of Black's, but there are a great deal of missing entries in that format. I have literally never tried to look up a word in the hardbound version without finding it--not so with the online or pocket versions. It is also an excellent citation source for basic legal facts, something you can't do with the internet version because of the lack of page numbers. Perhaps a little expensive for a student, but this sturdy, long-lasting volume will pay for itself by saving you time.

I am very pleased with this purchase. It will be used for a long time.

I am studing to become a Legal Translator at university in Argentina and this dictionary is one of the best I have ever been able to consult.

All law students must have this. It is a great help in learning the law language.

This is an essential for any home or office Law Library. It is wonderful and beautiful in the hard-back edition and very much worth the money. I highly recommend it for any practicing Attorney, or their assistant.

As you know, this book is famous of its abundunt contents and well-organised materials. That's true. I'm especially satisfied with its a wide variety of instances. Although it's unconvenient to carry because of weight, this is very useful for me to read legal articles or treatises.
I'm sure it'll help you to improve your understanding of legal mind and terms if you keep it with you!

This book is great for students studying law. I recently bought it for my boyfriend and he absolutely loved it. I highly recommend this book. Pay the extra money for the deluxe edition, the hard cover and the thumb-index are well worth the money.

Great classic reference book. Exactly as described, and very useful. Blacks is the expert reference book for all thing legal.

In my opinion blacks online (through west) is too cumbersome to use. too many redirects and long paragraphs. But this book is not essential either. You'll know the phrases you need after your first month or so, and all the legal libraries have a bunch of these all over the place. Bringing it to class is almost impossible because it's so big. But it is nice to have also. I would recommend this over the 8th edition because it's so much cheaper. I don't see much difference between the two. This will sit in my office throughout my career. However it's use will continue to be limited more and more.

Black's Law Dictionary is worth it's weight in gold. I used it in my research in learning about investment opportunities and basic common law terms. It is very easy to used and the price is right. I am glad that it is part of my personal library.I purchased this book in 2005 and I have been very pleased with it.

This dictionary will be well worn! It is indespensible and sits at my desk. Clear, concise easy reading print. It is one that you can't do without. With a tremendous amount of reading to be done as a student, this dictionary was printed with that in mind making a lot less a chore to use.

I bought this book for a class I took while I was an undergrad, and I used this book almost as much as I used the text for the class. I was able to find almost everything I needed, and in the end, it was worth having. I would recommend this for anyone taking law classes, however, I would buy a used copy because new copies can be a little pricy.

I considered buying this when I started law school. However, my school provides law students with free subscriptions to both Westlaw and Lexis online, and the entire school is set up with wireless internet. Therefore, the full version of Black's is easily available to me online any time I'm on campus. A laptop with wireless LAN is probably more important for college students these days than most paper references.

If you don't have easy online access, this may be useful. If you are like me, and online any time you're doing schoolwork, then save your pennies and use the online versions. When you are in your own practice, and having to pay by the search for online research, then you may want a paper dictionary, however you'll probably want the full size one on your desk, rather than the pocket version in your backpack.

Don't, however, try to substitute a non-law dictionary. That won't provide what you are looking for as a lawyer or law student.
