Very easy to read. A lot of basic ideas we often forget to do. I love the scripts that are provided on how to ask for lower interest rates from credit card companies. The book provided some very easy ideas regarding bank fees which I have earned back over $300 and I am only 1/2 way through reading the book. That easily covers the cost of this book. Follow the guidelines on reviewing your credit. Pull all the free reports that is suggested. They really are free! I have found some mistakes already. My husband and I are looking to buy a house in 6-12 months so we want to make sure all are ducks are in a row. Good luck to you all!

There is a lot of repetition of the same info throughout the book. Also, some of the links he provides are dead ones, so you can't get to some of the sites. However for the person who knows absolutely NOTHING about where to begin as far as a cleanup--it's not a bad book to start with.

I'm not saying Trudeau is a bad person, I believe he wrote this with good intentions, but the book itself is what falls short. It is poorly written. He would have fared better by not using the "cures" here, because most of it is common sense information.

If you already have a working knowledge of how credit cards work and where to start in fixing your problems, THEN by all means, get somethign else...Like I said, a lot of the information in this book is constantly repetitive...

[...]

I purchased this book after seeing it on an infomercial late one night. I was skeptical, but felt I had nothing to lose. I was so excited when it arrived, I started reading it right away and was not disappointed. The book is written so that anyone can understand it. I have read financial books in the past, and wondered what I had just read after flipping the page. I found several useful, practical tips from Kevin Trudeau that really do work. Like I said, I was skeptical at first, but when I applied what I learned from him in my own life - I was really excited that it actually worked. What was I so excited about? Saving lots of money, easily. I had told a co-worker about one of the tips, he tried it and saved even more than I did. The amount of money that I saved, far exceeded what I paid for this book. It was definitely worth the purchase!

Who does this man think is the "they" who don't want you to know anything? Is this the first book on personal finance or debt ever written? I believe Amazon offers over a thousand more (and just about all better) books on this and similar subjects.
I have probably read more financial books than Mr. Trudeau, and I'm sure I could take enough info from those books and write my own book. Then, I hook you with the "I've got the secrets 'they' don't want you to know!" line he uses for everything he sells. That's basically what this book is, a compilation of much better personal finance books.
Do yourself a favor: if you want a starter book on personal finance, get one of Eric Tyson's books and work your way up to books published by writers for Money Magazine, Kiplinger's, WSJ, etc.
And I agree with the other comments: google this guy Trudeau and see what his history is. He's the new W.C.Fields and you're a sucker to buy this book, or any product he sells.

Very little "cures" in this book, mostly way too many pages on how the credit lending industry is out to rob you. Only decent advice is calling to and asking for reduction in your interest rate. The one bright spot for me was the "Free Money!" chapter, and most of those tips were blind leads.

My local library had a copy of this book. I am glad I had a chance to read it before purchasing it. The title is misleading. It did not reveal any secrets. The information in this book has been published in hundreds of other books written on this subject. The book is 299 pages. In my opinion its 249 pages too long. The information could have written in 50 pages or less. The author spent a lot of time sharing stories about people who were in debt and how the debt affected them. These stories take up the bulk of the information in this book. Additionally, the solutions provided are the same solutions I have read from other books. Furthermore, anyone could get this information(solutions) for free by searching the internet. Do yourself a favor don't waste your time purchasing or reading this book.

Don't buy this book. I could clue you in on one page with all of the information---mostly common sense ideas you probably already know---contained within the covers of the book. While the author spends a lot of words and pages railing against the evil credit card companies, banks and the government, he ends up joining the crowd by marketing and selling this poorly written and weak book. The only thing this author provides is another meaningless outlet for your hard earned money. Kevin Trudeau seems proud of his anti-establishment, "I've received death threats" type of attitude but he thinks pretty highly of himself if he thinks the information in this book would result in a death threat. He's more likely to receive such a threat from a real author.

(Hide Review...)  Wonderful Wonderful Stuff for People Dying in Debt
Reviewer Permalink
Don't go by what people say. I have noticed time and time again people will go by hear say first. You hear a movie critic give a bad report for a movie and so you don't go see it, then by chance you see it later and think that the movie was great. You hear people complaining about not having enough money, but instead of picking up a book that can help them, they are too lazy, too busy, or any other number of excuses to do something that will help their situation. Quit letting other people control your life and take charge! I read the book even though I am totally debt free. This book is fabulous. It can and believe it will literally save you thousands of dollars instead of giving that money to banks. If you are serious about getting out of debt, then do everything you can to do it. Read everything you can and put the methods to work. What do you have to lose? If anything it will be the debt.

A year ago I was in more than 50,000 of debt before I got serious about ending it (15,000 of credit card debt, 25,000 1st mortgage and 10,000 second mortgage). Now I am finally out of the rat race and on my way to the fast track. How did I do it? I first recognized the debt, then became determined to rid myself of it. Every waking minute, every sleeping minute I said to myself I WILL eliminate this debt. Then ideas began to come to me and I started acting on them. I first read Rich Dad Poor Dad-Robert Kiyosaki. It was a very eye-opening book. For the first time I began to see how the government, banks, and even my employer were working against me. I started seeing how my income was being drained through the liability and expense columns. I ordered the John Cummata-Transforming Debt Into Wealth book. I learned how to start eliminating credit card debt one credit card at a time and it works. Order Kevin Trudeau's book. It is loaded with debt eliminating methods. Not everything might work, but if you can find a couple of things, then you will be miles ahead of reaching your goal to being totally debt free like me. There is valuable information on improving your credit score. All of the things he says about this is true. I am a witness to this since I have been practicing these things for years and have a credit score over 809. Please learn to take advice from people who have done what you are trying to do. It will save you a lot of headache and money in the short and long run.

As I am writing this review I am ordering this book for some great friends of mine. I was telling them about this book and they wanted to borrow mine, but I don't believe in lending my books because most people will not read and my book will wind up in some corner collecting dust. So I find reasons to give info like this such as birthdays and holidays.

One other thing, when you decide to commit to change, please do your best to get your significant other working with you. It will be an easier road. If I can do it, then I know you can too. Keep the faith, buy the book, rid yourself of debt, and get out of the rat race. God Bless You.

I don't usually listen to television advertising, but this sounded really good. I fell for the whole thing and called this morning. I was really turned off by the sales person who relentlessly tried to sell me one thing after another. I should have retracted my order and hung up. Instead, after finishing my order, I went online and checked the reviews-which I should have done first. After learning that this guy was a crook and that the book was mostly fluff, (according to helpful reviews) I tried to cancel my order.I was told that this could not be done. I spoke to a supervisor who told me that the order was placed and the money was already taken from my account. I told her that this was unlikely, since the salesperson told me it would be several days before my order would be ready for shipment. A call to my bank confirmed the lie. I learned that they had not yet taken any funds from my card. I had my card cancelled to advoid the charges. These people are just as sleazy as the credit card companies with their high pressure sales tactics and dishonesty!

Once again, Trudeau has written a book that's as close to the Great American Novel as he's yet (and, to my mind, anyone's yet) come. With each successive book Trudeau seems to raise the bar. I read Trudeau primarily for the magnificence of his prose style, his riveting plots and masterful plot structures, and especially for his characters who haunt you long after the stories end--in this case, long after he's offered his "debt cures." I'm thinking Trudeau's literary sensibility is closest to D.H. Lawrence. In this book--destined, I'm convinced, to become a classic, alongside Hemingway's For Whom The Bell Tolls and Dreiser's An American Tragedy--he tackles a delicate, controversial subject, "debt," with the kind of moral courage with which Lawrence confonted "sexuality." Yet Trudeau somehow manages to transcend the challenge of "debt" to probe, ultimately, the "human soul"--to examine, that is, not only what it means to be "in debt," but what it means to "be human." Weeks later, I find myself thinking about this book and growing very emotional. I tell my wife, of course, that I'm thinking about "Darfur," or "earthquake victims," but really I'm thinking about Trudeau, and his latest literary gift. Finally, I'll be surpised, disappointed, and frankly outraged, if this book isn't selected by The New York Times as one of the 10 Best Books of 2008.

First off- I want to say that I don't really care about what Trudeau has done in the past- what prison sentences he's served, what FTC fines he's incurred, etc. I was willing to give the book a fair shot. But contrary to the infamous infomercial, the cures aren't what they're cracked up to be. This is all pretty basic stuff- and the book isn't written particularly well either. A consumer is much better off with clever and actually novel approaches to personal finance like How to Take Advantage of the People Who Are Trying to Take Advantage of You or sound advice about hard work to become a millionaire as in The Millionaire Next Door.

One thing that ticked me off right off the bat was Trudeau's conspiracy theory about the credit cards, the banks, and the government (the "they" in his title) in collusion to keep you in debt. People!- there is no creepy little man behind the screen pushing buttons and trying to control our lives. There are a lot of people trying to take our money- but we do have a say in that- we can spend our money or save/invest in any way we want. If you need help in that regard- feel free to write me :D

I purchased this book so that I could personally publish an objective review concerning it, myself. Considering that my career is that of a critic, I know that people demand facts concerning products that they purchase. No one wants to waste their money on Junk, or come out of a purchase and feel that they have been lied to.
I am giving this man the benefit of the doubt, simply b/c that is what objectivity requires. I also, am not alarmed by the fact that he has been accused of fraud, or been to court over his writings.

I MEAN, LET'S FACE IT, NO ONE IN HISTORY WHO HAS EVER TRIED TO HELP OTHERS, HAS CARVED AN EASY PATH IN DOING SO.

Of course everyone is after him...that is to be expected. After all, no one who is screwing us over...especially banks or government...want anyone of us to challenge them...or to know how to better ourselves! They would lose billions, if people caught onto their game.

Knowledge, after all, is power! Do you honestly think billion dollar companies, or the government would want us to take back control of our lives?
I think we all know the answer to that!

I can see this Treudeau guy around a pool at some pseudo Hollywood estate with his entrepreneurial friends laughing all the way to the bank over the Barnum suckered massess of as90%^. He reminds me of that little jerk who hawks bowel cleansing products-the one who looks like a snake with the goatee. Anyone seen that weasel i'm talking about?? Billy Mays is probably strutting there too pushing some new orange pool cleaner stuff blabbing to the crowd who go "waah!!!" including the airhead ex-playmate with tremendous cleavage though at least May's big mouth doesn't usually rip off as bad with his products that semi deliver versus guys like Treudeau. Yes, these wonders give 'made in America' a whole new meaning- ha ha ha ha ha ha, ah sh&*!!!

This book is a complete waste of money. This book as well as Kevin's other books are the same long winded 300 page manual of 3 pages of core material. In fact this book is going to be the most expensive, uncomfortable toilet paper you ever pressed your cheeks against. Not to mention more satisfying of use than to read it.

Stop Buying this guys books.. the only cure here is his own debt by your hard earned money.

I hope Mr. Trudeau reads these reviews because it might make him reconsider his approach to business and marketing. I would NEVER buy a product through one of his infomercials for the reasons already listed by previous reviewers.
That being said, I do suggest that anyone interested in the credit industry, credit management, or methods for overcoming bad credit buy this book through Amazon because it's a worthy investment. While this book may not represent the final word on credit, there are many valuable ideas and suggestions that help a reader better understand and better manage their own credit. I've used many of the principles mentioned in this book and yes, they do work.

If you have a local library card, use it before buying the book. Check it out at your local library before spending your hard earned cash. He should tell people that!

I do have to say that this book is definetly a must read. Although it repeats too much on how modern political leaders lay back while the lending system is designed to screw with naive childlike modern american citizens, it really outlines common sense principles that we overlook on how to fight back and become wise in our actions of the lending industry. This book is definely an elementary read but I highly reccomend. It is always important to purchase things in life that have great use value and this book is one of them. I have saved $1,000 in literally 5 minutes and I got this book for $19.95. Do the math dummies, readers are leaders. read, read, read, even if you idolize george bush its time to wake up and smell the flowers and read this book.

(Hide Review...)  Kevin Trudeau has courage.

Kevin Trudeau deserves his props.Even though he`s been in trouble before,he`s learned his lesson and quite frankly, has the b-lls to take on the pharmaceutical industry in his past books and now the credit card industry. Our government is trying to squash him like a mosquito because he shines a big light on areas the government does`nt want lit.
Trudeau has to walk a fine line as our government is waiting for him to make a mistake so they can pounce on him.
All of his books do have helpful information. If you don`t like his books--get a refund or don`t buy them at all.Too many people are trashing this guy. He`s trying to survive in the same cruel world we all live in.
Only complaint i have is when his books first come out on infomercials at full price, you call an 800 number to order and his operators try to hook you into other services.
If i want to read one of his books,i always wait until the book is offered in bookstores at 25% off or order it online. If you`re real patient, you can wait for paperback versions at less than half price. All of his books are an interesting read.

too basic for anyone who is not totally green to consumer finance. don't get it if you are qualified to balance a check book, pay your bills on time, etc. i got the audio book cd and the author made the mistake of reading it himself. he probably should have hired a professional reader. the cadence is a bit annoying. of also, the bashing of the credit card companies is a bit much. it is written from the perspective that consumers should not be expected to have any accountability for the decisions they make and the contracts they enter. if the author had his way with they credit card companies, no one would ever lend money to consumers because doing so would be a financial loser.

I rarely right a negative review. But I bought this book hoping for some new sources or ideas. Unfortunatley the websites and resources he provides ar all available for free with a diligent websearch. SO far having serached for 3 days I have found nothing I qualify for.
Also a lot of his ideas are commen knowledge such as public assistance.
Not worth it the only one getting rich here is him
